Why is my 5G iPod not recognized by Xbox 360?

It's been probably over a year (maybe 2?) since I've plugged my 5G ipod (firmware v1.3, model PA002LL) into my 360, but in the past it's worked fine. However, last night I was in the mood to listen to some tunes while playing xbox; but, when I plugged, it in my xbox would not recognize it. The xbox will charge my ipod, but it will not show the device as being connected to it. So, to make sure it wasn't an xbox issue, I plugged in an ipod shuffle, which was detected by the xbox right away.
I then called my brother and asked him to plug his 5G ipod (firmware v1.3) into his xbox 360 to see if it would be detected...of course, it was detected. So, this leads me to believe it is an issue with my ipod. I originally was going to try and downgrade the firmware back to 1.2.1, however, the fact that my brother's ipod works fine with his xbox360 leads me to believe it is not a firmware issue.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? If so, have you found a resolution, or do you have any ideas as to what I should try? My ipod has been working like a charm since I bought it 2 or 3 years ago up until this little quirk. Also, I will be plugging my ipod into my bro's xbox 360 tomorrow night, to verify that my ipod still won't be recognized.
Thanks!

Eh, it's not really a glitch, it's just Apple changed something with the firmware along the way (probably going to 1.3), and Microsoft never did anything to try to keep it up to date with Apple's new firmware.
A Microsoft rep at my work said it was more Apple's fault because Microsoft tried to make a fix or new download to let the new firmware work, but "Apple didn't do that for them". But again, he's only a rep and I don't really believe it. Why would Apple not want to make their player supportable for Xbox? It's not like Apple makes game consoles.
I just think Microsoft didn't go out of their way to stay up to date with the iPod firmware, and you know they have their Zune which they're trying to promote so I'm sure they're in no rush to try to make iPod support work again for a while. This is unfortunate, cause I love the Xbox 360, but no way am I getting a Zune haha. Microsoft makes a great game console, Apple makes the best portable media devices, why can't they just get along? haha oh well.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?

  • Ipod not recognized by itunes, why?

I got a new Ipod and it is not recognized by Itunes. I have reinstalled itunes. I have tried to reset the ipod. It also does not show up on Windows Explorer. I tried changing things in the MSCONFIG file and it still did not work. The USB ports work and I have checked that by plugging in an external HD. Any suggestions?

  • Why is my ipod not recognized in itunes and content appears to be lost

I recently connected my ipod to charge, when itunes did not come up I found that it was open by another user on our pc. I went to close itunes from there session But it was frozen. I had to press control alt delete to end task. When it closed I opened it back up in my windows session and found all my content was lost and it didn't recognize my ipod. itunes wants to reset all settings to factory and delete any content that may still be on there. When the ipod is ejected it shows nothing on there but when i plug it in show my ipod name, and some content appears to still be there, in my computer in usb port (G:). Please help I hope I didn't loose all my music!!!

  • Ipod not recognized by windows code43

windows will not recognize ipod says device not working properly code 43 this happen after itunes upgrade what to do to fix

    Hello Judy,
It's impossible to sync your iPod if it is not being recognized in iTunes.  I found a few resources that I think will help with this issue.
I recommend starting with the steps in this tutorial:
iPod nano not appearing in iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/assistant/itunes/
If you are still getting the same error code after following those steps, I recommend the following article (you can skip any steps you have already taken):

  • My ipod not recognized by the computer or itunes?

Ok, the iPod works fine playing music and watching videos and everything else it is supposed to, and it charges fine. But when i plug it up my PC to sync new music, the screen on the iPod does like normal and goes to the gray and orangeish screen that says Connected, then immediately says Disconnecting iPod and shows the little progress bar as if you had ejected it. How can it do this on it's own before anything has recognized it?
I have done everything that the Support on here has said, the 5 r's and all that, and nothing. Checked device manager on my computer and it actually says that is is plugged up and recognized, but has a yellow exclamation point beside it. The properties of it says this error...
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)"
These errors occurred two days again until now, i have made no recent updates on my computer or iPod to have damaged anything but these problems randomly occur. it's really odd and if someone could help me it would be great.

Have you carefully worked through each and every suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Ipod not recognized anymore

My old laptop used to recognize my ipod using usb but only when it was fully charged and even then it would only recognize it some of the time. It also wouldn't ever charge through my computer and the ipod updater never worked. Eventually, that computer stopped recognizing it all together and I didn't even get the do not disconnect screen. In the meantime, I picked up a new laptop thinking maybe I had bad usb connections but I still have the same problem. I have lost all of my music files off of Itunes (due to my own fault of reinstalling windows without backing up my files thinking that might fix) but still have them on my ipod. Is there any way to back up my ipod and how do I restore it (or back it up) when it isn't recognized my my PC? I have tried new cables etc. and am convinced the problem is with my ipod. Any ideas?

  • New iPod not recognized in Vista PC and no devices in iTunes

Hello, plugged iPod Touch into computer and Vista showed usual little box which said automatically located drivers and installed them. But couldn't find iPod in My computer. Installed iTunes from download area. No devices in left column.
Reinstalled iTunes from fresh download. Plugged iPod in every USB point on computer, but nothing happens. IPod not found or recognized.
Tried to find USB driver in Device Manager but all have generic names and so can't identify which driver was installed for iPod. None show installation date or anything which may identify which one. Also forgot to create restore point first (kicking self - always do this normally before installing something new).
Been through Apple help pages and tried all their ideas including reinstalling. Still nothing found.
Could someone please suggest what to do, besides dropping computer out of window?
    Many thanks
    Phil Chave

  • Possible solution to iPod not recognized in Windows

I myself have a Mac, but for that last week, since Xmas, have been trying to help a friend get her kids' iPods (Xmas gifts) to work with her Windows machine. She has a Dell with Windows XP. Her whole system is 2-3 months old.
We experienced the same problem as many. iPods not recognized by her system. We tried everything, the 5R's, prayers, tears, voodoo, human sacrifice (Bob from GeekSquad), everything.
Long story short, she discovered that if she disconnects her printer (a Lexmark all-in-one) from it's USB port, and then connects the iPods, the iPods are recognized and funcion normally with the system. She restarts her computer between disconnecting the printer and connecting the iPods. Not sure if that step is necesary at this point. Must be some sort of hardware/software conflict.
Just wanted to let everyone know in case this worked for them.

I don't usually reply in discussion sites, but after about 20 hours...doing the R's over and over, Applecare not being able to help, and one step away from giving up...I just had to say thank you! I tried everything...except removing my printer and scanner to see if they were conflicting...after I read your note, I tried, and it finally worked. Thank you so much...I really appreciate the suggestion...and my headache has seemed to go away!!! Hope that you have helped other people's stress as well! Happy New Year!
