Why won't Motion let me close project?

Hey,
I'm currently running Motion 4 on my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.2). Whenever I open the software, a bunch of old projects pop up with media missing (since I used external hard drives). Motion won't let me close these projects, or quit the application (I have to do force quit). I also cannot create new projects.
Whenever I try to do anything, I just get a blip noise telling me I can't (including changes to the open project).
When I first open Motion there is a pop up telling me a picture is missing (from one of the past projects). It does let me close this pop up.
Final Cut Pro seems to run fine.
I tried re-installing all of Final Cut Studio, and nothing changed.
I also went ahead and repaired permission in disk utilities (thanks Russ H!).
Any help would be much appreciate!!

Check the individual project files and see if they're locked. Select them in the finder and hit command-i. There's a checkbox at the bottom of the general section that allows you to "lock" the file. You might also try and delete or move this files offline before launching Motion.
Can you do a save as for each project? That might work. Are you opening files over a network? Probably not the best way to work.
Did you use preference manager? And delete the preferences for the appropriate version of motion? That should clear the recent projects I would think. Confirm this and I"ll forward the problem on to the software author and see if I'm right about this or not.
Try creating a new account (system preferences: accounts) and see if motion will open properly in that. If so, it's probably a preference problem.
Do you have any system utilities or hacks loaded on your system?
And is it possible that Lion has some option to open the last documents open in an app? I know they've implemented some of this crap in Mountain Lion. I'm still on Snow Leopard, so I have no experience with it. Might check if that's the case and find out how to work around it.

Thanks! The problem I had was that I simply needed to download a new version from the App Store. I had honestly completely forgotten about the App Store. I'm on 5.0.7 now.

Why won't iChat let me add a new account?

I recently deleted my iChat account and I do not want to use Bonjour List. I am on the administer account and there are no other accounts created on my computer. Parental controls are also not on. Why won'y iChat let me add a new account, I am trying to add my AIM account. If you could please help me.

HT4743 When I try to buy a tv episode, it comes up with a message "problems communicating with itunes store, try later" click ok and then another messge comes up to verify payment info online. Everything is correct. Why won't it let me buy??

When I try to buy a tv episode on apple tv, it gives me a message of "problems connecting with store, try again later". I hit ok, and then another message comes up to go online and verify payment information. I have done that, all info is correct. Why won't it let me purchase? This has been going on for days.

I figured it out!
I read a solution for something that sounded similar.
Anyone in similar position:
Open iTunes app on iPhone, and pick an option from bottom, such as music. Then scroll down to bottom of page and where your iTunes ID is, press on it, and pick sign out.
Then return to home screen, and double press home button and press and hold on first icon showing, until a minus symbol appears in the top left of icons present. Press on each minus symbol on each app in turn, until all app icons have disappeared. Then Restart the phone by pressing and hold the home button and the on/off/standby button at top of phone, until the apple symbol appears in centre of blank screen.
Swipe to turn phone fully on and open settings and scroll down to iTunes and apps option and tap that. Pick sign in and put in your apple ID, it will accept it and then return to home screen and open iTunes a you'll find it works fine
Simple really, but some like me won't think f this themselves!

You can try to make a new account on iTunes Store if you didnt have yet.
I had the same problem with iTunes Store, the only thing you can do is to put some money on that credit card you are using with you account. iTunes Store already keeping some money for the last purchase you made you can see all info on the Account option and then Purchase history ...

Why won't Itunes let me use my store credit to gift an item

I want to gift a couple songs to my boyfriend, but when i try to gift the songs it asks for my credit card information. i have over $100 in itunes store credit from gift cards. i want to use that money to purchase the songs i will be gifting. why won't itunes allow that? i looked up tutorials and gifting should be easy and all you submit is the other person's email but thats not happening for me.

Why won't Apple let me set duckduckgo as my default search engine for safari?

I am using a iPad Mini and Safari only lists three options for a default search engine (google, bing, yahoo), all of which lack privacy. I would like to set my default to duckduckgo and would prefer not to modify my iPad illegally or use secondary apps (duckduckgo app). Why won't Apple just let me modify my default search engine manually? I quite enjoy Safari and don't like wasting space with other browsers on my iPad.

If I deleted Firefox by accident why won't it let me re-download? Why does it keep telling me to close Firefox before I can download when it isn't open?

I went to delete websearch function and deleted firefox by accident. I could not bring firefox back up so I deleted the program to try to just reload and now it won't allow me to download it again. It keep's saying that Firefox is still running and that I have to close it and it is not open.

Internet Explorer, or firefox both will offer to make themselves the default browser, and there may be some actions that are not possible or very dificult in firefox. I do not recall Windows itself preventing me from using firefox, other than because of firewall action.
Possibly now security settings or software is blocking firefox downloads on your machine. When you do download firefox you may then discover it is blocked from running the installer, until you revise security settings.

Why won't premiere let me open past projects!?!

This is about the tenth time that I have saved the project I was working on in order to open another one and create an effect! every time I try to open anything but my most recent project I am met by the same garbage error message "The project contains a sequence that could not be opened no sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type" WHY DO I ALWAYS GET THIS STUPID THING!!! IT'S UNDOING DAYS OF WORK!! And just in time for my Halloween special... it makes no sense to me... seriously, I have about 4 hours to fix this problem and completely edit about a 2.5 hour video for my YouTube show's Halloween special... I have maybe an hour before I'm going to have to start over AGAIN!! The error crosses all save formats and every single file besides my most recent which still gets an error, just a different one!

Hey Patrick, why won't Motion open when I send my project from fcp?

I just started playing with motion... doing the tutorial. The first time I tried the tutorial, it worked fine. The next time, the project didn't save, Motion didn't open.
I tried the usual, repaired permissions, trashed the prefs. But so far, nothing.
(By the way, I just figured you would be the first person to read and respond to my question... you practically own this forum.)

I have the same problem at the same point in the same tutorial. The other tutorials may be better, but I am concerned that, being new to FCS, I am missing functionality I didn't know I should have. Like the commercial said, I don't know enough to know what I don't know about. I am coming over from PremPro and AE, and I am impressed with the wealth of built in features. I don't care for the idea of reinstalling the OS and all of FCS, but if it helps... If there are any answers to this issue, I would be glad to know. Thanks to all-

Why won't Motion install?

I have Lion on one drive and Snow Leopard on another. So I won't lose function as I grow to know Lion.
Presumably, I could go from one boot drive to the other, and still work on projects from either OS.
I want to install FCPX and Motion 5 on the Lion drive. I own both on the Snow Leopard drive.
But the App Store only allowed me to load FCPX, then flags the download of Motion 5 as being "installed" and won't let me install it.
What's the right way to do this without starting a fight between the two installs?

I installed Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5 on a virgin install of Snow Leopard to make sure all was well. After a few days, I dragged them over to my usual Snow Leopard drive.
They now live as "Final Cut Pro" and "Motion" (without version names) in a 'Final Cut Pro X' folder in my applications folder. I do this so I can continue to use Final Cut Pro 7.
Just by dragging over, the App Store on my main machine considers them installed on my usual drive.
You could copy Motion from your Snow Leopard drive to your Lion drive. It might work for you as it did for me.

Why won't it let me hit anything?

I was trying to put a title slide into my movie. While I was editing it, and typing something else on the Scroll title, I hit the font button and now it won't let me hit anything else. Everytime I click it gives me a rejecting noise. Why is this?

It could be that the disk you're saving your captures on are not fast enough or maybe is full. If you have an external disk that you can connect via firewire you can try to define this disk as the one to save your captures on. As I recall you do so by choosing 'Save all' in the files menu and then point to the ext. disk.
