WiFi issues Iphone 3G

I know this topic has been covered at nauseum. I have a an Iphone 3G with version 3.1.2 OS on it. I"m trying to get the WiFi working since its been upgraded to OS 3.0. The phone will "see" the networks but refuse to connect. Yes, I have reset the phone, router and everything else that works on a AC/DC current several times with no luck. I've downgraded security settings, encrypted, unencrypted and everything else in-between. I am LOATH to upgrade to OS 4 since it will slow the phone down.
Short of taking it in for repair....any other ideas?
Thanks DM

Had the same problems on my 3G. Even Apple geeks at my nearest Apple store could not get it working. Don't waste any more time on it. Get a new iPhone 4. It works faster and better in every way.

  • WiFi Issues - iPhone? IOS? Sky? EE? PLEASE HELP!

I am suddenly having major problems connecting to Wi-Fi.  I am reading a lot about iPhone 6’s having issues but I have an iPhone 4S and recently upgraded to the latest IOS software 8.1
Whilst I cannot confirm or identify that the software update has caused this, it seems very coincidental that since then I am experiencing issues.
I have Sky broadband at home that appears to be working ok as I can access internet on my laptop which is fine.  However when I go to connect it asks me for my password and to join network.
The 2 issues I get are either:  1) it does not connect and just asks for my password repeatedly without connecting or 2) it appears to connect and the WiFi symbol shows on my phone but nothing actually works or loads.  I am also bemused as to why I am not getting 3G all of a sudden when WiFi is not connected, it is just always GPRS.
I have followed many online tips about resetting network settings and re-booting router etc. but nothing is working and I am now at a loss as to why this is.  I cannot work out if it is an iPhone issue, an IOS software issue, the Sky broadband at home or my EE connectivity.  I am sure it must be IOS issue but just don’t know.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated as it has been a few days of frustration now and don’t know what to do!
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, I was using iPhone 4S, and already upgraded from 7.1.2 to iOS 8 couple hours ago.
It just works fine to me.
However it doesn't fix wifi grey out issue.
    Good luck.

  • Wifi Issues Iphone 4

So before my wifi worked perfectly fine, I connected to my home wifi, college wifi etc. but now my home wifi keeps saying incorect password, at first I thought it was my home network but my gf's android phone, my friends iphone 3G and all the devices that were connected are still working perfectly. So naturaly its an issue with my phone, I was wondering why it suddenly stopped working?

I just downloaded 4.3 and got the same problem. My MacBook, a 3GS and a 3G were all picking up my home wifi but the updated iPhone4 wasn't. I came on the forum to see if anyone had the same problem and found this thread.
I've sorted it now. After the update, I had to put in the security password again. Obviously you never see your password once you've used to to connect for the first time. I was actually entering the wrong password. The card that came with the wifi said "admin password" and i was entering that. When I used the "wireless key" number, it worked.
Maybe try resetting your password on the wifi to double check. I know this is a ridiculously obvious solution and you might have already tried it. If you have, sorry, just tryng to help.

  • Wifi issue Iphone 5 64g ios 6.0.2

i have an issue while connecting to a wifi network. I always need to re enter the wep key.

I personally followed all the possible tips you can find here and even more. But the fact is that my other Apple devices and other breand devices work perfectly and my Iphone works only if I am just few centimeters from the router. Of, course, the other Iphones have not upgraded to 6.0.2
I would say that it is a shame, not only bad. My Iphone 5 worked great before upgrading to 6.0.2 and it seems it is not only my experience! Please Apple fix it otherwise I will give back my device ask I will ask refund.

  • WiFi issues with iPhone 4S & ios 6 update

    Okay here is my issue...
I've been reading alot of issues that people have with connecting to WiFi with their new iPhone 5, iPhone 4S or other devices but I have no trouble connecting to WiFi at all. My problem is that WiFi wont 'work'. The WiFi I'm hooked up to at home doesn't let me do basically anything that requires internet.
I can get on the Facebook app fine and my newsfeed loads but I can't see Facebook notifications, upload photos or videos, read inboxes, look at photos, its very slow etc.
I can't get into the App Store or iTunes at all. It says it 'Cannot Connect to iTunes Store' when I try.
I can't upload photos onto Instagram
Currently I'm into the Simpsons Tapped Out game and I can't go onto it at all.
And there are a few other minor issues I am having.
All these things I can do with my Telstra 3G network however and it ***** because I want to use and do all these things but I have to use my 3G and I've just recently gone over my data monthly usage and been charged extra which I'm not happy about.
So is anyone else having these issues or is it just me and I'm stuffed? I'd REALLY love some help.
I've been lost with what to do because as some are having WiFi issues as well, mine isnt the same and it's hard to find answers or just other discussions.
    Please Help!
    Thankyou.

I am having the same issue since updating to iOS 6.  It has been noticeable on my iPhone 4S and a little less noticeable on my iPad 3 but I think it is happening on the iPad too.  Very annoying problem.  One way to get it to work better is to re-boot your phone.  It will work for awhile then and then eventually not be working anymore and you will need to re-boot again.
Just to be clear with everyone - the iPhone looks like it is connected to the wireless, it gets an IP address but can't transmit any data.  Device:  iPhone 4S, OS:  iOS6

  • Wifi issues with iphone not responding

    Phone: iPhone 4s.
This issue started approximately two weeks ago. My phone initially started with the Wifi connection greyed out, I followed the appropriate steps to resolve this issue, and was successful. Now I can turn the wifi connection on without problems, but my iPhone will freeze (delay), then return me to my homescreen. Occasionally I do automatically connect to my known wifi, but then will disconnect and return to 3G. If I make an attempt to go to settings to manually reconnect, the phone again freezes. The phone seems to freeze after I click settings, then when pressing Wi-Fi, the bar turns dark bold, but freezes and doesn't open. I then have to click my home button, return to the main menu. Also if I open an app during the seldom opportunity my phone is connected to wifi, the phone will disconnect, return to 3G and freeze. I have rebooted my routers, forgot networks, reset network settings. I have thought about resetting the entire phone, but my phone will not stay connected to wifi long enough for me to back up my data to iCloud. I am thinking of stopping into my local verizon store, but I think they will redirect me to an apple store; which is 35 miles away. Of course the problem with me not connecting to Wi-Fi is my increased use of data. Now I am over 75% for my monthly usage with 2 weeks remaining, and do not see justification in possibly having to pay the overage fee. Many times when my phone freezes due to these wifi issues, or will not respond, I have to do the manual power/home reset. In conclusion, I need to figure out how to maintain my connection to Wi-fi, and stop my phone from not responding when I open my wifi settings. Thanks in advance!

My Iphone 4S is doing the same thing..  All of a sudden the WIFI button is gray and not working.  I chatted online with a Rep.  He had me call *228 and hit option 1, then call again and hit option 2.  All of a sudden the WIFI button was black.  But it could not find any network.  I shut it off and restarted it and now button gray again.  I called that number again and still gray.  I read somewhere else that a lot of people have a problem with the WIFI button.  They say it basically just stops working.  This was a replacement phone because the volume stopped working on my original phone.  I assume they gave me a refurbished one because it didn't seem new.   I'm due an upgrade in 3 months.   I'm disabled and just hate driving to the store again.  I wish there was an easier way.

  • IPhone 5 wifi issue. IOS 6.0.2 vs IOS 6.0.1

    Hi all,
Just want to ask if IOS 6.0.2 is better than IOS 6.0.1?
Recently, i noticed that my iphone 5 will disconnect the wifi connection after a while when not in use (standby / sleep mode_10 mins). When first bought, the phone was perfect.
Sometimes it will auto sycn back to wifi and sometimes not. IOS 6.0.2 software update on my phone states that it will fix the wifi issue but also heard negative issue such as the battery drain its power source very fast.
Will be very appreciate to hear some suggestions. Thanks and cheers to all!

It's because your phone will pick up LTE and then it'll lose it. What you need to do is turn off the LTE (until the service is better, more available) and you won't go in and out of service.
Go to Settings > General > Cellular > Enable LTE - OFF

It seems that people experience slow wifi on iphone with IOS 6 under slightly different circumstances.
Some have slow/choppy video streaming, some have problems with large dropbox files, some with app store and some with podcasts.
    Which is your problem AdeelRasheed?
Me personally, I have download speed when on wifi.
    But only when downloading podcasts...
    Running 6.0.1 or 6.1 on iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
On WIFI I can download a 45 mb app from the appstore in less than a minute. I can stream Youtube and Netflix with no problems. Internet browsing - no problems.
But downloading podcasts with Instacast 3, Downcast or the Apple Podcast app happens at a rate of 20-80 kb/s when on WIFI. As soon as I switch to 3g ( 4g/LTE is not yet available from my local provider) my download speed goes to between 300kb/s and 2 mb/s.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • IPhone 6 64gb WiFi issues still present on iOS 8.1.

I have try everything to fix my WiFi issues on iPhone 6 64gb (MG4X2LL/A), Even bought a new router among other fixs and other recommendations from Apple and abroad, with no success. The funny thing is that my wife's iPhone 6 16 gb have no trouble at all. Mine; Wrong Password/ Unable to connect. #Disappointing.

    I have problems too.
    - My device: iPhone 6 64gb
    - iOS: 8.1
    - 1 day life.
    - Problem: Wifi doesn't work at home, at university etc.
    - I try: Reset of network settings, reset the device as new, reboot, reset of my wifi router etc. I try all.
    - Results: nothing change
    - Always the wifi settings ask me the password, I put the correct, it doesn't accept; or it says me: impossible to find it, impossible to connect, password incorrect (is correct). Sometimes it has accepted the password (after 20 times trying) but it hasn't worked at all. Only one time it has worked for 2 minutes and after no connection.
Sorry if my english is not so correct. I think as all that is a bug of iOS 8.1. I hope for a solution.

iPhone WiFi issue. I enter a password, click join, and get a message back that it is an incorrect password. I have several computers and other iPhones connected using the same password. Any ideas?

    Hey there Gordo456,
It sounds like you are not able to join your Wi-Fi network with the correct password on 1 out of many devices. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Restart your iOS device.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
If that troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, I would next try these steps from further down the article:
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Iphone 4S wifi issues 7.0.4

    hey guys
    IPHONE 4S - Help needed
first post on here as im at the end of my tether with this phone.  So after installing IOS 7.0.3 i had no issues untill about 2 weeks in wifi started dropping out intermitently, at home, and office. i took no notice.
once i actually needed to use the Wifi about a week later is when i noticed Wifi was off and i couldnt connect.
so after forgetting the home network and trying to re-connect i kept getting 'Unable to connect' or the network purely wouldnt show.
so i wiped the phone to backup > issue didnt fix
i secondly wiped the phone  to fresh > issue didnt fix...
IOS 7.0.4 released > Install to backup > issue didnt fix
    booked into genuis bar ...
they performed diagnostics > all clear
they wiped phone to IOS 7.0.4 > Hey presto , worked like a treat .... but wait
now 2 days later (sunday , phone got fixed on friday)
Issue returned. Thought maybe the music or pictures or apps i reinstalled off the mac were corrupt and brought the issue back (unlikely)
another fresh install to IOS 7.0.4 (this time, new playlist and no pics for the phone)
    Minimal apps reinstalled
    (ISSUE NOT FIXED) !!!!
im getting so annoyed. the Home network keeps coming and going....
anyone got any ideas. (i know its not the broadband as i have many other things hooked up to it and all work perfect, i.e. Tv, Mac, Ipad, Apple TV etc)

ChrisJ4203, thanks very much for your input.  I don't mean to turn this post into an endless debate, but frankly I am still having a hard time believing that the WiFi died as a result of a hardware failure.
My logic might be flawed, but here it is:
While the iPhone 4S got very hot when wirelessly downloading and installing iOS 7.0.4 over the WiFi network, the WiFi chip and antenna had to be functional to complete the wireless iOS update.  Apple was very clear that iOS 7.0.4 is too large to download and install via cellular service.  Accordingly it would appear that any hardware failure had to occur in the few minutes between the download/installation of iOS 7.0.4 and its first use.  That window of opportunity is incredibly small in an otherwise flawless hardware performance.  I am not a big believer in long shot coincidences, so a WiFi hardware malfunction seems highly improbable to me, but not impossible.  A firmware/iOS conflict still seems more plausible to me.
I also don't read much into Apple's "out-of-warranty" replacement offer at $199.  AT&T tells me that anyone walking in off the street (with or without a hardware or iOS malfunction) would receive the same offer.
I appreciate that some iPhone 4S users did not experience any WiFi issues when they updated to iOS 7.0.4, but such difference could easily be explained if Apple used more than one WiFi chip and/or firmware in the iPhone 4S series.  Such an explanation would also account for iOS 7.0.4 (and 7.0.6) not recognizing the WiFi chip after the iOS update.
Still perplexed, but thanks again for your kind efforts to help.
Wonder if I can limp along long enough to spend my money on an Apple iPhone 6 ... but then again I don't want to be anyone's beta-tester.
I am tempted to switch to a Samsung Galaxy or some other smartphone as long as I will be buying new accessories, but frankly I don't want to waste my time learning a new OS or core apps.

With all the post about Wifi issue, could it be hardware and not software.  Anyone know how to diagnosis the difference.

  • IPad WIFI Issue similar to iPhone one that has gone unaddressed

Users have been heavily pushing concern over WIFI disconnecting/invisibility behavior on the iPhone and that has gone without response from Apple for months. One wonders if they are dealing with the same issue on the iPad.

Note the word similar and not identical in the title folks...
iMac 24", MacBook Air, Macbook all connected to a Time Capsule and flakey WIFI happens off and on with my iPhone and my wife's iPhone. You can also see that many other users have that same experience and like the iPad it manifests itself with low bars, failed to find network, failed to connect to network, invalid password messages, etc...also consistent with what people are reporting on the iPhone.
