Wifi networkconnection fails

Hi there!
I don't know why, but my ArchLinux system fails everytime I try to connect to any wlan access points. Neither my smartphone's wlan hotspot is working nor my home network.
I even tried wicd, netcfg and wicd and NetworkManager even without protection everything fails...
Wired LAN runs without any problems. Can you please help?
Thank you...

I get in now with the following procedures taken:
    1. Reset network as suggested in Apple app.
    2. In the wifi connection, instead click in the user name as shown in the screen, I click Others and re-type the user name as appeared before. In the security, instead of none, I click WEP. It will then prompt you to put in password. I then put in password as I know for that user name again.
    Then, it joined the wifi..
Hope this can help someone who get this problem.

My MBA indicates my connection is timing out. My wifi on other laptops work in the house. Diagnostics indicate wifi settings failed, network settings failed, ISP failed, Internet failed, and server failed. What can I do?

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • New router: cp1525nw wifi install fails with vague error message

    Product:  HP Laserjet Pro cp1525nw
    OS:  WIndows 8.1
    Hardware:  Asus laptop
Recently received new router from Verizon (FIOS), model FQG1100 BHR4 Router
    Purchased printer in 2012.
Printer was working with old router; it won't communicate with new router.
Over four days I have repeatedly removed the printer from the laptop and tried reinstalling using the wifi method. The install instructions say to run the CD, choose wifi, connect the USB cable when prompted, configure, remove cable when prompted.
When I attach the USB cable the configuration starts, but it either times out ("taking too long") or fails with vague message  about not finding the product. I am never prompted for an SSID.
I tried a USB install and that worked; so the USB cable is good.
Windows File & Print Sharing is enabled.
I've tried re-setting the printer to defaults, and ensured the wifi menu says "ON" for wifi.
I ran a wireless network test report:
PASS for wireless on, wireless working, and Security.
FAIL for Network Name (SSID) Found.
NOT RUN for: printer settings consistant with wireless router settings, No filtering, connected, signal strength, other networks detected.
    Wireless netwrorks detected: 9
I note the router label does not statE "SSID", but says "ESSID".
I would appreciate any ideas for what to try.

Last night I finally got it to work.  I removed the printer fully from the PC and rebooted. I turned off the printer. I ran a cable to the router (cable modem). I reset the router, which then assigned an IP address to the printer. I changed the security settings on the router to use WEP instead of WPA. I ran the HP printer setup program---and it finally presented me with the "provide SSID" screen.  The program ran successully. I printed a test page. I changed the router secuirty back to WPA2. I printed another test page.     I tried rebooting everything and printed again.  I also tried removing the cable and then printing again---the printing failed.
In short, I needed to do two things:  connect a cable and change the router temporarily to WEP for the install.
In my case, my printer is close enough to the router to run the cable.  A little disappointing that the true wireless won't work, but I can print wirelessly from my laptop.
I've seen how a lot of people have had the same issue I had, and how HP is of no help in solving this issue.  I'm convinced the printer has a flaw.  I hope my posts will be of benefit to a few people having the same issue.

  • Wifi network failing, but Chrome is fine!

    Hi,
I've recently started to have terrible problems with my wifi network: i thought perhaps i was losing internet connectivity, but this is not the case.
All i can say is that periodically my internet apps lose connection, and then i will notice i've lost network connection.
Eventually, some of it is restored, but this time i noticed something interesting: I can use Chrome fine, I can now see my network, but apps such as Slack and Safari are totally failing to connect.
This is a brand new Macbook Pro with16GB Ram, a 521MB SSD, and the latest Yosemite OS (10.10.4 14C109)
From my perusing, i noticed that often a log is requested from EtreCheck, so I include one here in advance, taking whilst Chrome is working but Safari etc are not.
    Thanks

  • Wifi setup: wifi-menu fails but wpa_supplicant works

    Guys,
I've installed archlinux for the first time, and I'm mighty pleased. I've been following the installation guides, and have run into a slightly annoying issue.
When I try to setup my wifi(WPA) with "wifi-menu", I end up with "CONNECTION FAILED" error message. The steps I'm following are.
    # wifi-menu
         In ncurses
        1. choose the SSID
        2. Enter the password
        Result - CONNECTION FAILED
However, running wpa_supplicant command from commandline works well.
    # wpa_supplicant -B -i wlp3s0 -c <(wpa_passphrase "ssid" "password")
    .. works!
So, wifi drivers are properly loaded for sure. I believe that wifi-menu internally uses wpa_supplicant. Why would "wifi-menu" command fail? Ultimately I want to use netctl profiles to automatically enable the wifi rather than manually enabling wi-fi every time. Any ideas?

@luisgmarine, I have tried it with and without the single quotes -- no difference. Thanks for the idea though.
@progandy, Interesting. I'm not sure how to figure out if it's an issue with the router communication or not, though.
Anyway, thanks for the ideas and thoughts. I'll mark this as solved, because it is working; I was just curious to see if there was an apparent explanation.

  • Wifi ISP fails

I have a problem with my 2012 MacBook Air running 10.10 Yosemite. It will connect to the wifi router fine - even shows me other computers on the home network so I have a network connection however the ISP, Internet , Server all show failed (red) in the diagnostics.  My router is a Linksys WRVS4400N enterprise router firmware 1.1.13.
Before upgrading to Yosemite I never had this problem when I was running Mavericks. I left the country for several months and upgraded to Yosemite while I was away. When I returned I could never connect to the internet using wifi - using ethernet is not a problem - it works fine.
So I sold my first Macbook Air and bought another 2012 model and it has the exact same problem - new clean install of Yosemite.  I have searched far and wide and yet to find an explanation or a fix. There is a litany of proposed solutions none of which have worked.
I will note that the first MacBook Air connected to another network without a problem - the new one I have yet to check outside my own network.
When running the diagnostics in the Network Settings the ISP and Internet indicator lights might flash to green momentarily as if it resolves its problem but then reverts back to red (failed) very quickly.

    Hello backinmac,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are having Wi-Fi connectivity issues on your MacBook Air running Yosemite. I know that you have already completed a lot of troubleshooting as well. In this situation, to make sure all bases are covered, I would suggest working through the troubleshooting steps in the attached article.

  • HT4718 During update process to OS 10.8.4 the WIFI has failed? Now what?

I have a new Mac without any additional applications other than Flash Player to view Youtubes. I chose not to do any migration until after the OS was updated to 10.8.4 from 10.8.2 which is the original OS installed when purchased. The update download using WIFI is about 7 hours into the process. Then I was told that the internet in our facility is down. I do not see any messages on the screen yet. I only see a spinning wheel in the upper lefthand corner of the browser window. Should I continue to wait it out? Can I assume that the process having been interupted has failed? How do I recover from this since Apple says the process should not be interupted? Is my OS 10.8.2 still in tact or has the new update already begun to install even though I have not restarted my Mac?

Start up in Safe Mode. Connect to your router with an ethernet cable, as your wifi may not work, and apply the 10.8.4 Combo update.

My computer only connected after I turned the wifi off on the computer and back on again, however, the connection only lasted for about half an hour and this method hasn't worked again since and I am now completely unable to connect to the internet.  I have also tried re-starting the computer in safe mode.

  • WiFi constantly fails on WRT54G2

    Hi,
As with almost every WRT router I have installed the one I installed at my girlfriend's place is giving me nothing but trouble. Almost every day the wireless connection fails. I get disconnected, everyone gets disconnected. Sometimes the connection is 1,0MBit for a while before it completely fails. When it fails, the wired part still works perfectly. The AP is still visible but no one is able to connect until I reset the router.
I'm using no exotic setting whatsoever. The router is using WPA2 Personal with AES encryption on a fixed channel. All the advanced features are at their default settings. I've experience this problem with 2 Broadcom and one Intel network cards with zeroconf. No other WiFi management or firewall software installed. I've had this under XP and Vista.
This is not acceptable and also not the first WRT router I've experienced this on. My own WRT160N does this sometimes, my brother's old WRT54G did this and so did several other routers from this series I have installed.
What is there to do about this?
    WRT54G2EU
Firmware version: 1.0.04 (also tried 1.0.01)

That is no solution to the problem, only for the situation. But yes this is what I basically do every day. And I realise how ridiculous this is, simple WiFi routers that bear the magic Cisco seal and yet perform so poorly. I've seen cheap routers (up to Sweex WiFi routers) perform infinitely better.
    Seriously thinking about switching brands.

  • Wifi update fails to install

    T60 2623D6U, XP sp3
Got an optional update from system update this morning,
called Intel Wireless Wifi link for Windows XP
It downloaded ok but failed to install (tried twice) with the following error:
This product cannot support downgrading the version
    from 13.01.1000 to 12.04.000
Please uninstall product and try again or contact
    product vendor.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Yes, I have just had the same problem on my Spectre X360

  • Safari of my Macbook (on WiFi) suddenly fails to connect to the Internet.  A popup window message says another device on the network is using my computer's IP address.

But then there was still no Internet access even after I have disconnected all other home computers (a total of four including the Macbook and one iMac desktop.  For simplicity, I shall categorically called them Mac hereafter unless otherwise specified.  The Macs are operating on WiFi.).
The window message recommends changing the IP of either the Macs or the other device.  The latter of course does not apply because I don't think the other device is one of my computers.
    My questions:
    (1) Why did that happen suddenly since the Mac and other computers on the WiFi was working fine in the morning (as well as days before) and then all of a sudden an unknown device is using my computer's IP?  As far as I (we) can remember, we did not do any thing unusual this morning nor had we downloaded any special programs.
    (2) How do I change the IP since it requires Internet acess to do it and since I can't access the Internet on the Mac?
    (3) I am almost sure the problem is not caused by the Internet service because when I connected the Ethernet cable from the DSL modem to an old Windows PC, I got Internet via Internet Explorer.  [I am actually sending out this message via IE on my PC.]  However, when I cennected the Ethernet line from the modem to a WiFi router (Airport Extreme) and then connect the router and the old PC, I did not get Internet on either the Mac nor the PC.  Similarly, there was no Internet on both Mac and PC If I connect Ethernet only between the modem and the router but not between PC and router.  So, the question is whether a third unknown party has gotten hold of my Mac IP address and is trying to break into the Mac?  Can it steal my personal info?
    (4)  How can I repair the Mac now and prevent future recurrences?  Is changing the IP address the way to do it?  (But like I said before I had tried but could not change the IP because I did not have Internet access on the Mac.  Is there an alternative method?)
    (5) I wonder if a computer's IP address remains constant if you don't change it.  The reason I am asking this question is because the aforesaid window message on the Macbook--not sure about the iMac--shows a different IP address--a few numerical digits were changed--almost every time it pops up following every failure trial of mine to access the Internet.  Was the Macbook trying to change the IP for me or was there some thing not right?

Re: Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address.
This message/problem was occuring intermittently for me in a household with two MacBooks accessing one Airport extreme.  Rebooting the modem and router would only temporarily fix the issue for me, so I spoke with a friend who works for Apple and it seems that the Airport Extreme settings were at the root of our particular issue.
The router(Airport Extreme) recieves only one IP address from the modem and in order to allow it to share the IP address with two computers at once, the solution in my case was through:
    Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility>Manual Setup>Internet
under Internet Connection- Select "share a public IP address"
under NAT, check the box for "enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol"
(this will allow the sharing of one public IP address with multiple devices)
if this is a new setting, then click "Update" and the Airport Extreme should reboot itself with new settings applied.
When all else is working properly, this is a satisfactory solution in my case.

  • Wifi connection fails after adding appletv.

Wifi no longer works on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, Epson Photo PX700W and Samsung PC after connecting my new Appletv. Any ideas why adding 1 device to my wireless network should cause 4 devices to longer connect. I can't even get the airplay icon on my iPhone 4S...
The iMac, iPad 2 and macbook all work fine.....

I would consider getting support for your router. Who is the manufacturer of your router?
It kind of looks like all of your 2.4GHz devices lost connection... check your network configuration.
