WIN 2000 MS Access to Oracle/UNIX

I have data in a MS Access database and need to PULL it into Oracle from the UNIX side.
Do I use ODBC to set this up? I set up ODBC on the UNIX side however I am still unable to pull the data into my Oracle database. From my PC I can use MS Access to PUSH it into Oracle but this is not the solution that has been requested. Has anyone done this?

well i dont know hot to pull data from msaccess to oracle from unix side but you can do that from windows side
try doing an export like this
select the Access table , click on File -> SaveAs / Export then it will prompt you to select the target location
then select the database and it will ask you the name underwhich it should be saved. give the necessary target
values and there you are. Im able to export the table and data succesfully.
pls try that and let us know if any difficulties

I am trying to Install 11i VIS database through Rapidwiz (copied all the CD's onto HDD) on WIN 2000 Professional (NTFS) Created oracle and applmgr users, used all the default parameters given, created a Temp dir in the Main Directory; I was logged NOT as ORACLE but as yet another USER with Administrator Rights.
it giveing the following error:
System Utilities Check (FAILED)
running command : which gnumake.exe | grep /gnumake.exe
Error - 'make' in path test has returned an error: 1
running command : which cc | grep /cc
Error - 'cc' in path test has returned an error: 1
I have created oracle and applmgr users.
Should I have to logon as Oracle while installing or is there something else I'm missing?

You will get this error message if you do not have MKS toolkit and gnu software installed. Install Visual C++, MKS and gnumake tools and ensure that they are in path. Rerun the rapid install again. Then you should be fine. Contact me at [email protected] if you need any further help.

Oracle 9.2.0.3 or 9.2.0.4 on Win 2000

In the OTN downloads page, I see that I can download the database for version 9.2.0.1 (Standard Edition), for Win 2000.
I have been informed that the Developer Suite for 9i, with the 9.2.0.6.0 patch, is certified to run with database 9.2.0.3 or 9.2.0.4.
My question: Is database 9.2.0.3 (or 9.2.0.4) also available as an OTN download? If so, how can I access it?
Alternately: Does anyone have reliable information as to whether Developer Suite 9i (with patch 9.2.0.6.0) can also run against database 9.2.0.1? (All on Win 2000).
I am stressing the patch 9.2.0.6.0 issue, as I am told that prior to this patch, there were problems with setting up the Repository (needed for working with Designer).

Nope. There is no Database 9.2.0.3 for Win 32-bit (cd-pack/full release).
There is Database 9.2.0.1 (full release) and Patch Sets that brings it up to 9.2.0.3 (or .4 or .2). Patch Sets are, as I know, only available from Metalink with a valid support contract.
Note that AS and DS are 9.*0*.2. (confusing, yeah!)
Here on OTN we can find:
Oracle9i Designer Release 9.0.2.6.0 - a full, patch release for Oracle9i Designer
(You must install this over your Oracle9i DS installation)
Note the difference - patchset is for Designer/Repository 9i as part of DS, not the whole DS product stack (latest patchset for Forms & Reports is 9.0.2.3 I think). Patching Oracle (except for DB) is messy as always I guess ;)
I would guess that Oracle Support recommends to have DS patchset 9.0.2.2 installed also...
And cert info includes a requirement for at least 9.2.0.3 (DB) so I guess you have smoe patching to look forward to ;-D

Hi "User", seems you have the same problem
like all that do their first-time install :-)
Forms uses a different Oracle_HOME (required by setup), and hence does not "see" the "settings" of the normal client.
Try the following:
- Set up a connection with NET80-Tools
- Test with SQL*PLUS
- Copy "tnsnames.ora" from the Client-81-Home
to the forms-Home, e.g.
cd ORACLE/FORMS/NET80/ADMIN
copy ORACLE/ORA81/NETWORK/ADMIN/tnsnames.ora
Of course, you'll have to check for YOUR
directory names...this is just a samples, resp. mthe setup of a machiche I configured yesterday. HTH.

The Actual problem was in the "tnsnames.ora" file where in I need to make entry for the new SERVICE name.

Benefit of Moving Essbase from Win 2000 to UNIX

At my job, will currently are using Win 2000 for the OS that Essbase runs on. My Mgr and I want to migrate to UNIX, for simplicity. Also we believe using UNIX will shorten retrieval times for Web based reports. Has anyone had any experience with this and if you have, did you experience in shorting of retrival times.

I haven't tracked retreival times, but If you have calculation issues, be advised that calculations on NT or Win2000 are much quicker that UnixGlenn S.Narratus Solutions

how come you have the cds and no access to sapnet? strange....
basically these are the steps:
-> install win 2k server
-> check for all hardware and software requirements (needed for sap installation)
-> install oracle server 9.2 and the appropriate patchset (being 9.2.0.8 at the time) and the interim patches (opatch)
-> install sap central instance using sapinst (you will be asked for the different cds such as java, kernel etc.)
-> install sap database instnace using sapinst (you will be asked for the different cds such as java, kernel etc.)
-> apply post-installation steps
but: without the installation guide and the relevant sapnotes it will be difficult to succeed....get access to sapnet asap!

9i and 10g on same server (Win 2000) - only use one a time.

I am working on setting up an oracle server for testing purposes and wonder if it is possible to install 9i and 10g on the same server (Win 2000) without any conflicts? Only one would be used at a time.

Yes. It is possible to have multiple version in windows. However, it is little tricky compare to unix environment.
You can comfortably execute respective versions(9i and 10g) GUI interfaces. But you may have issue when you try to execute binaries from command prompt. Each Oracle installation will keep appending the environment variables(path, etc). You can have batch file for each version and execute it.
GUI interfaces controled by windows registry. Each version will have separte registry entry with necessary variables.

i tried to create database manually but when i runs the

It is good to know the steps to create a database manually. If you run the dbca and choose only to create the scripts you realize the steps. Apart from that if you are studying for Fundamentals I exam and you want to it because you think that content is going to appear. Forget it. In that exam there are not questions related to steps to create a database manually and less in windows.
To learn to create a database in Unix makes sense really!
