WIn 7 PRO to Win 7 PRO Remote Desktop with matching 1920x1080 Dual Monitors

I have done quite a bit of looking and still do not know if WIn 7 PRO can connect to a to Win 7 PRO with Remote Desktop with matching 1920x1080 Dual Monitors. It seems like it cannot use dual monitors by the HELP file. But
then why does it have "Use all of my monitors for the remote session" as a selection in the Connection settings ? Just what is the real answer ? Both systems are 64 bit. If the answer is YES. Please tell me how !

To use this Remote Desktop Multimon feature, you must:
1.Connect using the Remote Desktop Client 7.0 (mstsc.exe) available initially on Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2.
2.Enable Multimon using one of the three methods described below:
a. Click “Use all monitors for the remote session” in the client (mstsc.exe) window.
b. Use the “/multimon” switch on the mstsc.exe command line.
c. Add “Use Multimon:i:1” to the RDP file.

3.Connect to a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

If it was me, I would first look into Teamviewer to see if it will do what you need. It does work between Mac and Windows and it is free for non-commercial use. http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

I have several friends and family who are looking for a central place to access information from ( Pictures, home movies etc ). So I am considering setting up an OSX Lion Server. There are some other things I can use it for as well.
Here is my question:
If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server? Or would I have to install the Admin software on each? Do they intend it to be used strictly as one admin to access many clients?
I always could set up a network drive so they can log in and just see the folders they have created with space on the server I provide them. But I want them to be able to log an and actually use it as a Remote Desktop.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand that ARD is meant for Remote Administration, but I was not sure if it could be used for my purpose as well. The reason I was looking to do it this was was because I read several articles online about security and performance issues with setting up VNC and activating screen sharing. Unless I am misunderstood.
As far as people's activities on the server, mostly it is going to be used as a place for them to store their media. I will only allow own person ( Who I trust and I know wont botch the server ), to run applications. Everyone else will be restricted to uploading and downloading content to their designated account on the server as well as a community share on the server.

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn and Remote Desktop Connection

So, my pc operates on Win7-64bit. I use Remote Desktop Connection to log in to the company server, running on MS Server 2008. I purchased the HP MFP M127fn today after confirming that it is compatible with both OS listed above. I successfully installed it directly to the server via usb cord - to make sure the correct drivers downloaded to the server. I was able to test-print and print from an app while physically connected to the server. I then disconnected the printer from the server and successfully connected it to my local pc. I can test-print and print from an app on my desktop. When connect to the server via RDC, it recognizes the MFP M127fn as my default printer, and sends a print job to my local pc. I can see the job in the server print queue, I can see the print job in queue on my desktop....it spools, then says it prints, however no actual print job ever materializes.
If I select to print to the MFP M127fn fax from the server, it will open the fax window on my desktop, allow me to enter a phone number, and will dial out and send the fax. So, that driver is functioning properly.
So, my question is this: If the printer and fax claim to be successfully installed, why do I not get the print job that is sent via the server and appears in my local print queue? I get no error, either on the server side or the local desktop. They both truly think the job has printed.....but no paper ever comes out.
Our company has used several other HP printers over the years with this same set-up and have never had a problem until now. The last one was also an HP MFP - the CM1312. So, I am now completely stumped by this. I called HP support and was routed through 4 different areas before I was told that no one had a clue what the problem might be. I then called the Easy-Tech desk at Staples, where I bought the printer, and was told that it was most-likely a hardware issue and I should return the printer to swap it out for another one. If nothing would print at all, I would agree it's hardware. But, as I can print locally, I'm more-inclined to think it's driver-related......any suggestions?

The M127fn uses the PCLmS printing language which is a lightweight printing language, a such is not supported for RDP printing.
As a reference you may find the following socument about Citrix, Terminal Services and RDP Printing, as you may find listed the M127 is not supported for a such:

That is clearly not an harware issue, however I suggest returning the printer and replacing it with a different model which better feet such a task.
The M225dn as an example uses a PCL 6 print driver and should provide a better feet for RDP printing using HP UPD.

Using Apple Remote Desktop with Audio Applications

Hello, I am configuring a setup consisting of a Mac Pro with Mac OS 10.4.9 running Logic Audio and a Mac G5 Quad with Mac Os 10.4.8 running Protools HD.
I am considering using a Gefen Systems KVM switcher, or Apple Remote Desktop.
Has anyone had any experience using Apple Remote Desktop to run Protools?

if all you need is to be able to control another computer, then ARD would be overkill. Look into the freeware VNC. That will give you control capabilities and not cost you anything. You can find VNC applications for Mac here. Most people seem to find Chicken of the VNC works well for them.

Wireless disconnect after login with Remote desktop with wpa2

We have 5508 wireless controller with 1142 aironet acess points.... we configured Radius authentication on ACS 5.3 for wireless users
when we take remote desktop connection of wireless client ... it disconnects after 10 sec.
and when we logged in to client ... connectivity was lossed .. I have to reconnect Manually to client..
It's really frustrating for all our service engineers to work remotly ....... Please Help

Conditions: Dynamic WEP; 7.0.235.0, 7.2.110.0, and 7.3.101.0 controller software releases.
Workaround:
• Executes the config advanced eap bcast-key-interval 86400 in the middle of the night
• Change security setting to WPA2, and so on.

Using Windows 7 Remote Desktop with Airport Extreme...help!

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme to replace an old Linksys router I had. Its works great, but I'm having an issue when I send my brother a remote desktop assistance link in Windows 7. We are both running Windows 7 and never had this problem in the past, but now that I'm using an Airport Extreme it wont connect. Tech support could not provide the correct ports that needed to be opened. I'm thinking it has something to do with NAT PMP (Apple) and UPNP (Microsoft). We have opened ports 3389 and 491152 - 65535 but no luck.
So my question...how can I enable the Airport Extreme to allow Windows 7 Remote Desktop Assistance?

Mac Pro, Leopard 10.5.2, Photoshop CS3, 8800GT and Dual Monitors - Crashing

Hi, I received my Mac Pro (with Nvidia 8800GT) earlier this week and set it up with my dual monitors. I soon discovered that Photoshop CS3 crashes when scrolling a 'zoomed in' image with dual monitors. Photoshop is setup so that all palettes are on the smaller samsung monitor and the main image window I'm working on is on the 23" cinema display.
I've updated both the OS and CS3 but cannot solve the problem unless I switch to a single view setup, ie, drag all the palettes over to the larger monitor so that photoshop is no longer dual monitor. Then it works fine. Although it's a workaround, it's not an ideal situation. Has anyone else found this to be an issue? Have you found a solution?
I've also re-installed Photoshop, visited a genius bar and changed mice!

My Mac Pro had been running 3 Dell monitors on two NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT cards for months, and with the (I think) Safari update all of a sudden the Mac freezes, 1 monitor displays garbledy gook, and the other is blank with a blinking power light. That is, until yesterday when the power light refused to come on. So I says to myself, "Self, how about testing them on my iBook?" The 1704FPT will not power on, plugged in to a computer or not. The 1707FP shakes like crazy when starting up on the iBook, then settles in and seems to work. Meanwhile, the SP2008WFP is working alone on the Mac Pro, but not totally trouble-free. What the heck is going on?

Connecting MBP w/Retina and Work Laptop with Switch to dual monitors

I have the latest MBP w/retina display and NVidia GT750M video card. I also have my work laptop (Dell, Win 7, HDMI out). I want to connect these to a dual monitor setup with a switch. I currently only have one monitor that is 1920 x 1080 and supports hdmi and dvi. I would like to buy another cost effective monitor to take advantage of my MBP's higer resolution and have that as my main monitor.
Next I would like to connect the two laptops to the dual monitor setup via switch to go back and forth between systems.
What is the best switch to buy for my needs? Does OS matter when selecting switches? Monitor recommendations are appreciated also.

I am also seeing lots of posts about Mavericks not working well with switches. Has this issue been resolved?

Not pleased with PreEl 11 dual monitor mode

finally got PreEl 11 working on my PC and do not like the dual monitor mode. in previous PreEl programs i could detact the monitor and out it in to another screen and still have all the tools on the other screen. now the monitor and most of the tools move with the monitor so i have a split work space. not very handy at all. i am HOPING that someone can figure out a way to move just the monitor and not everything else with it...

If you've got a feature request, you should contact Adobe on their web site. (They're likely developing the next version now, so it's a good time to do so!)
This is a user-to-user help forum. We can't do anything about the interface itself. (And, yes, breaking it into a timeline and everything else is really the only option for version 11.)

Mac book pro + external hard drive plus desktop with ethernet router combo

Can anyone advise - for or against / solutions that might be possible as I'm considering time capsule.
Currently
Desktop = Mac Pro - 230GB hard drive no wireless card.
One ethernet port going to router into which my broadband is piped. Out of the router - ethernet to plug in lap top in other room (hubby not so found of wireless).
Back up = 500GB external formac drive (noisy and vibrates) connected via fire wire. All my photos and music go direct to the formac drive (are not on desktop or laptop).
I do backup of documents from desktop to the external hardrive manually.
I have a mac book pro which I access the internet by the the ethernet (but don't think I can file share because of the router which I think just pipes the internet to both computers).
*What I would like to do*
1) Access documents from the desktop vire wireless when working on laptop.
2) Continue to store photos and music without clogging up my desktop hard drive.
3) Get a quieter external hard drive (been noisy since day 1)
4) Easy backup of of photos and music (at the moment only one copy exists on hard drive which I am concerned about (other than DVD).
5) Turn wireless off when not working on laptop - hubby concerned about privacy and I work from home so have confidential material I have to guarentee is secure.
Can any one point me to whether time capsule and or other bits would meet my needs?

1) is doable I use that functionality Even from Pennsylvania to Michigan
2) I use the TC as backup for my primary hard drive although I always use two back up hard drives for my primary. I use the Finder not Time Machine.
3) The LaCie d2 or the quadra work fine with TC. They are quiet and sleep appropriately.
4) is doable and related to your one.
5) secure your router and wireless setup is not a problem.
You can also use the setup of the external to interact with ATV. Like streaming movies to ATV

How do I switch remote desktops with lion server screen sharing?

When I sometimes use the Lion Server screen sharing feature to take over my iMac using my Macbook, I find that I'm not able to switch desktops on the remote computer, i.e. using the three finger swipe.
Both are running the latest versions of Lion Server.
Now there MUST be some way to do that right?

Hi John, perhaps I did not express myself clearly.
My desktop iMac is set up with multiple desktops (desktop 1 for system stuff, desktop 2 for mail, messages, skype etc, desktop 3 for Safari and desktop 4 for text proessing, VM-Ware and other work).
When I work on that machine I'm logged in as one user and use the three finger swipe left and right or the Cmd-1 thru Cmd-4 keys to switch between those desktops.
I haven't founf how to do that from my a remotely connected MacBook Pro.
Both of which are running Mountain Lion in the mean time. The iMac runs Mountain Lion Server and the MBP has ML Server installed as well, but nut implemented. Just to be able to use the remote screen...
Hope this makes my question a bit mre clear...

Remote desktop with Share My Desktop/Chicken of the VNC

I read on these boards of an easy and free way to access a remote Mac using Chicken of the VNC and Share My Desktop. I talked my out-of-state parents through downloading and installing SMD and I installed CotVNC; my parents start SMD and they give me their IP, port and password info. I plug everything into VNC on my end, and I can't connect. Nothing I'm doing seems to work but from everything I've read, it should connect. Am I missing something- is there a setting that has to be tweaked for this to work? We're both running 10.4.11.

Well, I don't think robojet and robojet's mother were networking experts. A couple of my posts, like this one, that I referenced for robojet are laid out in about as much of a "cookbook directions" format as I think is humanly possible. You don't need to understand it, just follow the directions.
You're still gonna have to have both ARD turned on and VNC turned on in your folks' Sys Prefs Sharing whether you, on your end, tunnel through secure shell or not. The difference is whether you want to expose those ports on your folks' machine to the internet at large or not. If they don't have a router/firewall built into their DSL modem, the ports for whatever services you have enabled will be exposed, whether you tunnel through ssh or not.
I haven't looked at the SMD product to see whether it enables ARD and VNC or not. Could be if it wasn't run from an admin account, it didn't do what it was supposed to do on your folks' end because of permissions issues.
If you insist on running your folks unsecured, make sure they know how to lock down their firewall in their router that they should buy and install (or in their DSL modem if it has that functionality built into it already) when you are done VNCing, or they may have unwanted "visitors" like ibexcom did. They probably wouldn't be too happy with you if personal identity and/or financial information were stolen or their ISP accused them of staging DDOS attacks or of spamming, all because an unauthorized "visitor" gained access to their computer via an unprotected VNC link with weak VNC password.
Since you plan, at least initially, to get this up and running unprotected directly over the VNC ports, launch /Applications/Utilities/Network Utility and go to the port scan panel and scan their ISP-given IP address from port 5900 to 5903 and see if any of them are open. If the ports are not showing up as open, then you won't be able to connect. They can determine their ISP-given IP address here.
IF it were convenient for you to go to their place with a laptop and affiliate wirelessly onto their home network (like, with the $50 router that you buy them ), that would be a good start for doing baby steps to overcome the entry-level connection problems. Then make it work through ssh from there, then try it secure from your place.

Mac Mini Alu not work in remote desktop with no monitor connected

I've bought a new mac mini this week (but i have had the same problems with mac mini intel 2010), i use only in remote (no keyboard and no mouse). the problem is: If i have the hdmi connected to my plasma 50 samsung all work OK (also with plasma tv off). If i disconnect the hdmi cable the mac mini don't work correctly, safari and twitter app crash. Any ideas? Anyone have the same problem?
