• Win7Pro + Office 2010 - integrate in same image and sysprep?

Hello,
are there any arguments against  installing Office 2010 Sp1 into an Windows 7 Pro image  and then syspreping the image? Image will be used for many 100 clients.
Activation is for both (Win+Office) over kms.
Is this against best practices? Should Office always be kept out of the image...?
Would be thankful for any help on this.

Hi,
So, here is the best practice for you:
Configure Office 2010 for capturing an image

• Windows 7 Pro x64 now BSOD just as it is starting and Startup Repair has failed

As the title says, a few days ago my Windows 7 Pro x64 started to BSOD just as Windows is starting but the error screen disappears immediately.
Startup Repair fails and has Problem Signature 04: 21199350
I have used the Windows 7 Pro installation DVD and opened its Command Prompt option and then run the chkdsk and sfc programs but no errors were reported. Also, I ran bootrec with /fixmbr then with /fixboot and finally with /rebuildbcd but it made no difference.
After a failure, the next time I turn on the PC I am offered to repair Windows or to start windows normally. Using the repair from here didn't work as also happened when I chose the repair option from the Windows 7 Pro installation DVD.
Holding down the f8 key when Windows is starting doesn't make any difference.
BTW, the crash happens as the 4 small parts of windows are approaching each other on the Windows start screen.
I can access my hard disk by attaching it to my laptop. If the error 21199350 reported by Startup Repair failure is not the BSOD error, will this be recorded in a file each time it happens? If so, which file?
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I dread having to reinstall Windows 7 Pro from scratch again and all the many programs I spent ages installing.
Thanks
Paul

Sorry for the delay in replying.
This evening I managed to modify the PC registry from the Startup Repair command window so it wouldn't reboot on BSOD.
Used regedit.exe to modify the following in the PC's registry (I followed the 17 July 2011 Terra-byte "Modify the Windows Registry from Startup Repair" article):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\CrashControl] and set AutoReboot to 0x00000000.
and also for ControlSet002.
The BSOD error is: 0x0000007B which seems to be a device driver problem.
Would my problem be caused by my installing 2x 2GB DIMMs that I bought on eBay into my Abit AB9 Pro motherboard's two free slots (the other two slots each have 1GB DIMMs) but on power on nothing happened?
Removing the two new DIMMs the PC powered on but then resulted in BSOD.
Thanks
Paul
Error 0x000000tB is a very often reported error.  It means INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE.  Either something in your BIOS changed the type of storage device (AHCI -> IDE) or your HDD is experiencing a possible failure.
See info @ 0x0000007B (INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE): Fix for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1

• Migrating to office 365/Win 8.1 from Office 2010/Win 7.0 the Outlook Personal folders are missing.

In Office 2010 I had emails archived into private data file personal folders/subfolders under Outlook 2010. My Office 2010 installation was wiped out when I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. The outlook.pst files are still available. When I installed
Office 365 on my Windows 8.1 system, Outlook 365 picked up the .pst and populated the Inbox and Sent folders, but the archived email personal folders are not present, and also the contacts folder is empty. I haven't been able to figure out where on the hard
drive the personal folders were actually archived (in Office 2010 ) or if Office 365 will even support showing these personal folders.

Problem solved. I found a separate .pst file in my backups that contained the personal folders and the contacts. This file wasn't in the Win 8.1 documents\outlook files folder. So two .pst files are needed; one for the emails and the other for the personal
folders.

• Office 2010, Appdata, Roaming user profile and Normal.dot

Hello,
We have roaming profile on our domain users and they are working fine within the network.
When they are at home using the same computers, they login with a cached copy of their domain profile.
Server is 2008 R2, Windows 7 x64 clients and Office 2010 x64 package.
When the users go home, they get "The file Normal.dot cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents" and "Word cannot open the existing file (Normal)" error when they open Word 2010.
If they use VPN or connect remotely to the network, everything is fine. But when they are at home and just want to open a document from their USB stick, this happens.
The users Documents, Desktop, Favorites etc are mapped to DFS shares in the network.
This of course means, they don't have access to them at home, which is fine.
On the ADM template for Office 2010, the User Template path is set to  : "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates"
AppData folders is redirected to localprofile for the above to work and under the "Exclude Directories in romaing profile" we have added the entire "AppData\Roaming" (we are testing so that is fine for now) but still the "Appdata\Roaming"
travels with the roaming profile which means the Template path becomes unavailable (or so it seems) when the users disconnect from the network.
But what is confusing is, I can still browse to the above path manually, but Word 2010 some how seems to think its not there.
We do not want to use Offline feature (yet), and want to find if there is any other method of solving this.
Ramu V Ramanan

Thanks Jeff. I don't want to go down that second path, autorecover is not our foe here, its the 'Templates folder'
As for the first part, that doesn't work. The problem is word still looks for the path "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates" which it thinks is not
available, when it is (as its exempted from being roaming using the registry value/GPO). Moreover, when the user is disconnected from the network, they can't click Modify and change the path, it simply doesn't do anything when you click Modify on
the screen to change the path to the template file.
We are considering ditching the roaming profiles, especially because the machines are now travelling outside the network. Or creating a special folder in all those machines where we can put a copy of the normal.dot. This is only affecting about 100 such
users, other users who have local profiles on the machines are fine.
Cheers,
Ramu

• Win 7 64 bit, office 2010 64bit, acrobat 9.5.4 / pdfmaker does not show up in office apps

I do not get the Adobe add-in in any of the office apps, nor do I get the covert to pdf or combine pdf selections when I get the menu from using the right click on the file. I did used to get these options. I have done a repair, I have also tried the command solution, nothing seems to work. The add-in are not in the add-in menu in the office apps.

You won't - Office 2010 isn't supported by Acrobat 9 and never will be.

• Drag and Drop issue and Exposé

I know that there are many people with the same problem and maybe creating a new topic might seem lazy but I've just found a way to replicate the problem in my system and that might enlighten somebody to find a way to fix it.
I've noticed that finder stops being able to "drag" a file in list view after I use Exposé to select the window. If I click out of the window into the desktop or some other window and click again without using Exposé, it seems to work just fine, then I Exposé out and back again, and no dragging.
This seems to happen every time I use Exposé to get to the window. I can use Exposé to get out of the finder window, and as long as I don't use it to get back to the finder window, dragging works.

to add to the last:
Henahn's observations are still exactly what is happening,
but the window size of firefox has nothing to do with it as I test it.
It is as Henahn's findings:
If I use the side buttons of the bluetooth mouse to activate Exposé and go to another screen where there is a open finder window with a selection; dragging that selection doesn't work.
Going back with Expose to the first screen, then mouse-clicking that desktop to activate the finder, then going back to the screen with the finder-selection will make the drag-function working again.
It is a work around, but what a hassle if you have to do this a lot.
Apple. Fix this please!

• .Mac and Safari issue (no other browser)

I am running Safari 3.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.2 and the issue I am having is Safari related, and is not the fault of .Mac. The problem does not exist in Firefox.
The problem is viewing synced .mac bookmarks. System Preferences is set to automatically synchronize my .mac bookmark data, but when I use Safari and log into www.mac.com, and click on the bookmark link on the top, I click "Open Bookmarks" and Safari redirects to the .mac homepage instead of showing my list of bookmarks. It has happened sometime after the 3.1 update, but I cannot say exactly when.
I have removed the Safari folder inside the User Library, and also the Preferences file, both to no effect.
But I have made a new user, logged into my account and Safari has worked properly.
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem, or what I can remove to fix it.

I am having a similar issue. Have you found a solution for this?

• W7 install and LION issues and appearance of disk0s4.

What is going on here?
I have always used bootcamp and previous OSX successfully with Windows, until LION.  Now I am able to boot to windows from a "power off".power on>option button down.select windows icon HD.  But cannot do so on a simple restart (no HD's icons are displayed), and in system preferences Startup Disk pane..windows is not there, and in disk utility my windws disk is idenitfied by disk0s4 (not mounted, MS DOS Fat, no files, but 100gb size is there).
Perhaps someone has some insight or suggestins on this.
1) Installed LION using bootcamp.
2) Now, choice for duo boot is only after power down>power up>push option button, if I simply do restart it never shows the duo boot icons (with option key down).
3) Inside of Lion, the windows icon in startup disc in preferences is missing
4) Disk Utility shows Mac Volume and a Volume titled disk0s4 (not mounted) and format is shown as MS-DOS FAT (but yet in windows 7 it shows it as a NTSF)
Like I said W7 does work fine and I can boot back to LION using the bootcamp icon.
-I have tried disk repair from booting off my USB Utility,  Repair is not possible on the disk0s4 (like I said it does not mount, does not show files, does show the correct partition amount of 100gb.
Here's how it looks. MAC SIDE
Disk Utility show current drives: Mac and disk0s4

Disk Utility showing disk0s4, not mounted, no files MS DOS(fat)

StarUp disk in preferences. Only Mac drive is shown:

Here's how it looks from EASUS view:

Window 7 work fine but I cannot choose a startup disk from inside of Lion nor is there a Duo boot icons if I just hold option from a simple restart (again I do have that duo option choice of displayed hard drive icons, if I start from a power off only).
1) I am guessing that the bootcamp volume disk0s4 is not really formatted as NFTS or is not recognized by LION as an NTFS volume and so it doesn't show it mounted and is not displayed in the disk startup pane; and hence will not show up even with an option button down or a simple restart of mac.
2) Doubtful if there is a way or program that could simple covert the disk0s4 volume to NTSF?
3) I have reinstalled twice ob Bootcamp and had the same results.
I coulld leave the way it is and just power on my mini each tme I want windows, but this shouldn;t be like this correct?
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Hello,
I see a couple responses/questions after my original post. Sorry, but I never knew they were there until this last question arrived.
Currently I removed the Bootcamp partition to recover the hard drive space since I really had no use for windows.
I kinda of forgot the resolution, until I serached posts I made at my macmini forum back then. here is the post, and the soultion was pretty simple and straighforward..
I also include the post previous to that concerning BootChamp as a way of adding a quick boot icon to you mac menu.
Hope this helps, let me know.
Don
My original two post from macmini fourm in 2012......................
I upgraded the HD on my mac and when I was finished, decided to leave Windows 7 off it for awhile. Two weeks ago, I had a heck of time after I reinstalled to successfully boot into it from within mac. It didn't show up on preferences start up pane, nor did it show up in the Disk Uitlity sidebar........ Very very long story.....but unless you wants specifics....it boiled down to that although W7 was indeed alive and working, the bootcamp partition appeared as a strange volume called disk0s4, an unmountable FATS 32 something or other. Even though W7 was in fact an NTSF volume (that;s what it showed within W7 and thats what it showed even on a third party Easus program.
Despite help from two apple phone techs and a genius visit....no one could correct this. Lion was loaded repeatedly from USB, self made DVD's, and partitions were expanded, shrunk, created, deleted,(my drive was formatted, reformatted, deformatted, unformatted, downformattted upformatted, and overformatted). LOL....All experts surmised that it had something to do with Recovery partition. When an Apple Tech Supervisor said "Hey now let's try first formatting the entire drive to NTSF, then format over that HFS+, then install LION fresh, set up a dummy mac account and then Bootcamp W7 and then after that works, then migrate your LION backup from time machine.........Yikes, I knew that they had no answer.
As I said......W7 existed and worked great and booted back to LION, but W7 was not seen in DiskUtilty or anything else, hence no restart to W7 from inside Mac was possible. And that was my major issue, every time that I successfully installed W7, as the last step after trying all their nonsense.
Too many hours lost over this and short of trying a south american shaman, I decided to take a leap and try something simple. Alas, BootChamp. I reloaded a fresh BootChamp copy, and it came through where Apple and a multitude of advice givers could not. Now I can reboot to W7 from inside of my mini. Bootchamp is TOPS !!!!    -Don
My post concerning BootChamp and it's ability to add a quick boot and icon for windows................
I was always frustrated by the fact that there was not a reboot icon on the Mac desktop to go to windows (like the Bootcamp icon on the W7 task bar).
Well "Lo and Behold" check out BootChamp http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/28468/bootchamp
Developed by Kevin Wojniak http://www.kainjow.com
Works great, and easy to install and use. The windows icon is located at the top toolbar.
I even wrote to Kevin and he responded back to me immediately. Make sure you download the latest version from his sitehttp://www.kainjow.com , and be sure that you uncheck Next Restart Only and leave the check by Launch At Startup, if you want the icon to appear at every restart. It kind of threw me off until I did that.
The first time you boot to windows it will ask you for your password, then after that it does not any further.
Makes for one less step when you want to boot to windows from your desktop.
Bravo Kevin for developing this free tool. This should have came with Bootcamp....perhaps Apple should buy it off of him. -Don

• Status of Hub 2.0 type A and B issues and fixes

I have recently had lots of telephony issues with a type A hub and BT sent me a replacement which was a type B. This fixed lots of telephony issues. I now find that there are some serious issues with the type B eg xbox 360 live probelms ( does not affect me) and an issue with the link dropping when you access the hub and look at advanced settings/broadband/adsl. Personally I think that one is pretty serious!!! I also think the event log is a bit mysterious in the type B.
Anyhow what i was wondering was does any of the more experienced forumistas or perhaps one of the moderators know if there is a list of issues for type A and B HH's and what the status is . That is --are BT going to fix it or not ? and perhaps when ?

• Need assistance creating applications with superseedence to uninstall Office 2010, Lync 2010 and then install Office 365 click to run 2013

We are getting ready in a few months to uninstall our locally installed Office 2010 and head to the cloud with Office 365 2013. I have created applications to uninstall Office 2010 and Lync 2010 and then added them to the supersedence tab for Office 365
office 2013 click to run with appv5.
When deploying the office 365 2013 application it does not uninstall office 2010 or lync 2010 with the supersedence.  I am able to manually uninstall Office 2010 and Lync 2010 with the command lines I am using in the applications.
The application uninstall for Office 2010 is:
The application uninstall is an exe so I created an application, created a deployment type with the location of our Office 2010 admin point, installation program and uninstall program are set with the same line as I have tried to deploy it separately and
also as a supersedence in the Office 365 application setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config "\\sccmserver\share\Office2010\ProPlus.ww\silentuninstallconfig.xml.  The silentuninstallconfig.xml was created from the original config.xml file and edited
to these settings:<Configuration Product="ProPlus">
     <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="NO" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
     <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="Never" />
     <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="NEVER" />
     <OptionState Id="ProductFiles" State="Local" Children="force" />
     </Configuration>
The detection method is the folder path to see that office 14 exists.  When I deploy this the machines finish with success showing this exists, but does not uninstall Office 2010.
running the command line manually mapped to this location on a machine uninstalls office 2010 without issue.
Lync 2010 uninstall:
Lync is an exe so I am using the LyncSetup.exe /silent /uninstall.  The application is in the supersedence tab for Office 365 2013. This never installs.  If I create a softare distribution and deploy it on its own it uninstalls without issue.
We are going to use Lync 2013 with our office 365 2013 installation so we need to uninstall this.  The detection method for lync is file system folder and the Microsoft lync folder for detection.
MS Office 15 (Office 365) was created with the click to run tool.  I can install this with the application I created using the appv5 package created with the click to run tool.  The issue is we need Office 2010 and Lync 2010 uninstalled first.
Having both versions of Office installed in test has caused issues where Office 15 365 will not list in add and remove programs and cannot be uninstalled even with the fix it article to remove office 2013.
I have looked at many articles and so far it is not working for us.  Any help appreciated to get us to the cloud.
Thanks,
Brit

The applications I have for uninstall of office 2010 and Lync 2010 for some reason do not uninstall. Manually testing the command lines they do.  The detection method seems to be hanging things up.  On the lync uninstall detection method I have
the setting type of file system, type folder, path c:\program files\ folder name Microsoft Lync.
I highly recommend using something other than a file/folder "exists" detection method. Installers are constantly leaving things behind due to environmental inconsistencies. It may leave files/folders behind with a schedule to delete files on next reboot.
These things are unpredictable and very hard to use. I just use the "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" Registry location. There you can actually key off the "Product Version" DWORD as well which gives you an even more accurate method
to determine if the application you are trying to deploy (or expect to exist) is truly there. This, of course, being if you are not using an MSI. If you have MSI technology ALWAYS use the product code unless the person writing the MSI chooses to use the same
product code for every version release of their product. In which case, Use the registry method.
As far as getting the supersedence and everything working. You need to start from the basics. Create Applications for all of the apps you want to remove. Make sure they install and uninstall properly (seems like overkill but it isn't that hard). Once you
have working install/uninstall applications then you can easily apply supersedence to your new applications with a setting of Uninstall on the superseded apps you should have no problem getting rid of them. I have done this for numerous things.
For example, I did this with Cisco Jabber to replace older versions of jabber, older versions of cisco unified personal communicator and lync and OSC. All of these replaced versions had to have an Application but once it was in it took two seconds to apply
all the supersedence rules and now I know when I push that software out no matter version is running on any machine it will pull all the old apps off and put the new one on.

• Visio 2013 and Office 2010 Professional Plus

I am using KMS.  Both Office 2010 and Office 2013 keys are installed on the KMS server.  On a Windows 7 system, Office 2010 Professional Plus in installed and activated.  Visio 2013 Professional is also installed, but it is not activated.
I see hits in the event log for activation requests, furthermore slmgr.vs /dlv all shows a 4 count for Office 15, KMSHostVL edition.  This is probably correct, we haven't deployed Office 2013 or many Visio 2013 apps.  The problem is every time I
open Access 2010, the Office installer runs.  This does not happen for Word, Excel or Outlook.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem or how to troubleshoot it?
I tried running the VA client diagnostic tool, but it said Office was activated.  I am sure in looked at my 2010 Pro and not the 2013 Visio.
Thanks

when you have a combination of Office products installed upon a single machine, (even sometimes with a single product installed), the Office applications can sometimes suffer a repair/re-registration sequence upon application launch.
This can happen in non-KMS scenarios, and, is usually caused by missing registry keys or a damaged installation.
It can also be caused by updating/patching one of the Office products, since updating/patching will sometimes cause the registry entries to be re-written, which can "toggle" the registered default application.
This is one of several reasons why MS recommend against having multiple versions of Office installed upon a machine.
Try a repair of Office2010, to see if that will correct the registration of Access2010. If successful, then check Visio2013 is still launching ok. Then check Access one more time (to see if launching Visio has disrupted Access again).
