Win 8.1 upgrade, laptop freeze for 10 second

Hi,
Anyone experiences this, after upgrading for Win 8.1, my laptop freezes 10 seconds every now and then. It doesn't matter if I am running just the browser or working in excel. Anyone have similar problems and any solutions?

Can you please give full notebook model but also BIOS and ME version please?
It sounds like some incompatibility with drivers.

  • New Laptop Freezes for some time

Hello , I bought a new Laptop recently , updated drivers etc using SoftPaq , but noticed that laptop was freezing for few seconds with the HDD light full ON . so it kept getting worst with time . the first time it happened while i was playing a game (Assasions Creed iV) since that it got so worst that laptop started crashing , i did a diagnostic test from BIOS , it ddint pass the LONG DST test . so i went to the shop  i got it from and they said that the HDD is damaged and as 3 months has passed since the purchase you cant replace the HDD , so i bought a new 1 TB HDD..
i am skeptical now , i did the Detail HDD test , it passed both the test BUT I STILL FACE THE PARTIAL FREEZE   , like while installing any program or opening firefox , or at random times / programs it would freeze completly , the mouse would move but nothing else , and the HDD light will be full on with white colour .
I would like to know if its a Hardware issue or driver ISSUE . how do i point it out ?
let me know which all info is required I will share in detail
    Thanks in advance

  • Equium M70-339: Playing video display freezes for second every 10sec

When I play a video/dvd etc the display sticks/freezes for a split second every 10 seconds or so. This happens when I play something online or from one of my own DVDs/CDs. It does it on all software (Windows Media, Real Player etc).
It seems to be a driver problem(?) but I can't be sure.
It is certainly very annoying! .. and seems to be getting more noticeable. Would appreciate any help as I can't find anything else on the web which explains why this happens.
    thanks
    Jim

The newly downloaded driver worked for a short time (I'm certain I have the correct one as it actually had a link on my PC to download the latest version) but is now back to the very annoying 'stick' every 10 seconds or so. I'm not sure what else I can do to fix this - it's very frustrating as it ruins enjoyment of videos, dvds and also watching internet tv, they all do the same. Any ideas?

  • Laptop freeze for no reason

Hello, I have a problem that has apperead the last two weeks.. I own a dv6-3150 hp notebook. I have it for 4 years. A month ago I had some freezing and then everytime my pc restarted i and t would check the c folder for errors. So I took it to service where the found a failed hard drive and replaced it. I thought that this would solve the problem now as I have a new HDD.Also they cleaned the laptop from dust and now it doesn't make any noise. However, what is going now is that when I am surfing on the internet or playing an online games randomly after 3 or 4 hours of use my pc  will freeze cursor as well and the only thing that I have to do is manually turn it off from the button. I searched a lot on the internet to find any reason for this, but the only thing I found was antivirus programs, failed hardware , drivers and overheating. As I got it back recently from the service I surely have no hardware issues , a clean laptop and I can't find something that make this freezing to happen. I even went to power management and lowered the maximum performance of my cores to 85% so now it doesn't heat at all. I also made a memory test and my card  and hdd seemed fine. Yesterday it didnt freeze at all and i was happy. But today when I turned it on it froze on the start up screen! I read somewhere that It could be useful to press f10 and access the bios but even there it asks me a password that I do not have.  I really don't know what 's the problem. As I sent it to hp service 3 weeks ago, it was checked. The only thing that come to my my is maybe false installment of windows but I don't even know if that is cause eveything works ok. Also I changed my iantivirus program. But I have a fear everytime I use my pc for a freeze that may happen any time. Can you help me?

You say "it started with iMovie", so I assume that up until two weeks ago your machine was running fine? I'd start by uninstalling Iphoto library manager as you say it doesn't work for you anyway.
Next thing I would do would be to create a new admin account, log out of your current account and in to the new one. Do the freezes continue? Report back your findings please.

  • Upgraded iCloud storage for second time to 1tb but photo library still saying not enough iCloud storage to upload photos, help?

1Tb iCloud storage, 128gb iPad air 2, still saying not enough iCloud storage to upload photos

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,
    Brett L

  • I made the mistake of downloading the new Os 7 on my iPhone 4. Not only I don't feel comfortable with the way it looks, it's also turn slow and freezes for seconds when opening some apps.  Can I go back to Os 6 ?

I want back to the old Os 6. This new system feels more like a downgrade then an upgrade !,

Every 20-40 minutes the laptop freeze for 1-2 minutes with this errors: (Event ID 37 & 129)
    Event iD 37:
    - The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.
    Event ID 129:
    - Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.
Second one is with 8.1 (Came with 8.0 and i updated it to 8.1 from microosft store)
Bios is also the latest one. and this one also freeze all the time,  with the same error:

I tried load bios default, to update all drivers and to change the power plan. nothing helps.
    is this a bios issue?

    Hi,
I just watched a video podcast for about 30 min - suddenly the video froze, audio went on for a couple of seconds - then the fireball came up for 1 min. Then the video started again for 10 sec and froze again.
Any idea what could be wrong here?
    Thanks,

  • Gaming apps freezes for few seconds , then resumes by itself or crashes sometimes ,after upgrading to iOS 8.3 on iphone 6

Gaming apps freezes for few seconds , then resumes by itself or crashes sometimes ,after upgrading to iOS 8.3 on iphone 6

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
    1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
    2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
    3. Do a soft and hard reset.
    4. Reset network settings.
    5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
    6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

Thanks for you post, I was under the impression that one of the new macbook pro's comes with 16GB RAM out of the box.
I'll try your solution although I feel like is rather utilise the RAM I've paid for.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/10462096123 Suggested that it's possibly the new memory compression causing the issues. This seems to fit, because I'm a game developer I tend to have quite a lot of memory intensive applications running.
Will report back if I find a solution, if there are any more suggestions I'm all ears.

  • KDE intermittent freezes for ~1 second

Update: It would be really helpful If  someone could kindly let me know if they are  *running KDE, *using high resolution/multi head, *using many windows, *using an ATI card, *have desktop effects on, *not experiencing any trouble.
Hi, when I have a lot of windows open in KDE, the desktop sometimes freezes for about 0.5-5 seconds when I move, resize or unmaximise some windows, and sometimes just when bringing them to the foreground. Firefox and Thunderbird seem to be especially bad, but it happens for all applications. The system is not under great load, and there is plenty of free RAM. The system does not completely lock up, as the sound continues playing. Mouse events from when it's locked up are lost. When it's not locking up, everything is super smooth. Are anyone else seeing this?
I suspect the problem may be that the graphics memory is full. I have dual monitors, one 1920x1200 and one 1280x1024. I have a Radeon 6770 card with 1 GB GDDR5 memory, and I'm using the open source driver. I've enabled PCIe 2.0 mode for the radeon using a kernel parameter. I've tried all options under Desktop Effects in KDE (I don't think it's a problem when it's all disabled, but I'm addicted to the window switchers). I have measured my main RAM memory bandwidth to be something like 14 GB/s, which is less than the top end systems, but not insanely bad.
If my impression of the Arch community is right, this would be the place where someone may have encountered it and fixed it... (I had the problem on Fedora as well though). Also, do you think this would be better with an integrated GPU, where the system memory and graphics memory is shared? (then I would have to sell my CPU and get a new one) Would it help to upgrade from 1333MHz to 1600MHz RAM?
Update 2: I don't see the trouble to such a large extent in Gnome

So there was slowness in both Gnome and KDE. It has been annoying me for over a month now, but now it's solved!!
The solution is embarrasingly simple: Use the proprietary driver. The improvement in a "Firefox" test in the Phoronix test suite is almost a factor of 10. http://openbenchmarking.org/result/1302 … AIROATTE26 . This is also what it feels like. It is just amazingly awesomely much much better

  • [SOLVED] Laptop freezes at startup after kernel upgrade to 3.13.6

Some days ago I got a new Dell Sputnik 3 Laptop and installed Arch Linux with UEFI Boot and gummiboot as bootloader. The installation was successful.
However two days ago there was an upgrade for the Linux Kernel from 3.13.5 to 3.13.6. When I restarted the Laptop after the upgrade of the kernel the Laptop freezed directly after pushing the power button (never got ahead of the initial DELL logo).
I ran the DELL hardware diagnostics to identify a possible damage of the SSD but everything was ok. Than I booted into a live system ad mounted the root partition and there was no problem work on it. Additionally I change the value of timeout in gummiboots loader.conf (it was commented out before). Since than I got the gummiboot boot menu at least. So narrowing down, I think something happened during the kernel upgrade. Unfortunately I have no clue what could it be since I am convinced that at the installation process some days before I did everything like it was described at the beginners guide so automatic gummiboot update had to be possible.
The drive is partitioned in the live system looks like this (look at sda):
    ├─sda1 8:1 0 512M 0 part /boot
    └─sda2 8:2 0 235G 0 part /
    fstab like this:

I have and arch.conf in gummiboot looking like this:
    title Arch Linux
    linux /vmlinuz-linux
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    options root=/dev/sda2 rw
and the loader.conf of gumiboot looking like this:
    timeout 5
    default 56cccedc29f1418ab2d8f1762ea09471-*
Now, I don't know anymore how to proceed to identify the problem and hopefully solve it

looks like this issue might be the same:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=172961&p=1
If I find time I might try using an alternative to gummiboot to see if this works.
Update: There also seems to be a reopened bug report on this https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33745

    Hi Guys,
I found the solution on Adobe's forums. Thanks to the adobe guys.
I have a program "RightZoom" installed. Needed to upgrade that to the latest "Lion Compatible" version.

  • My Macbook pro freezes for 30 seconds upon flipping it open to start up, why?

I have a Macbook pro (mid 2012) and I went to install Mavericks but my computer crashed horribly. I couldn't get any of the keyboard shortcuts to work so I had to take it and turns out some sort of driver kernal needed to be rebuilt by the local mac place. Now, when I flip the computer open to load it up, it freezes for about 30 seconds after the grey loading screen with the bar. My mouse and window to type in my password shows up, but the computer is completely unresponsive at this time. Any way to fix this? I used to be able to just flip my laptop open before the update and get right to using it, its my favorite part about my macbook pro, would like to regain this quickness.... Thanks

Are you running any applications when you open the lid, specifically any applications that are heavy on GPU usage such as iMovie or Photoshop?

  • Projects freezing for 5 seconds after saving (CS5.5)

I have been editing the footage from my client's Sony EX1 for a long time.  Suddenly, all new projects for this client have the same glitch.  Whenever I save the project, everything freezes up and I see "not responding" at the top.  Then, about 5 seconds later, everything is fine.  I haven't changed anything in my system recently.  I did upgrade the driver for my GTX 460, but that made no difference.
    Windows 7 64-bit.
    Premiere CS5.5
Any thoughts on how to solve this?  It really interupts my flow.

    More info.
I have the same problem when I name the output in the media encoder within Premiere.  It seems to be related to Premiere having to connect with Windows explorer.  Also, the time of the lock up is more like 15 seconds rather than 5.  I hope someone out there has an insight as to what I can do about this.
