Windbox III Video

The video specs for the Windbox state, "CRT + DVI, CRT + HDMI." How does one accomplish the "CRT + DVI"? With a Startech DVI-I-to-VGA splitter, I only get cloned displays.
Thanks.

I don't normally reply to laptop/tablet/AIO problems questions but since this topic has been here for several days with no replies here it goes after a quick search for an answer to your question.
Specifications: Cable Jacket Type: PVC - Polyvinyl Chloride Cable Shield Type: Aluminum-Mylar Foil with Braid Connector Plating: Gold Package Quantity: 1 Wire Gauge: 28 AWG Note: This product will split your video signal to deliver two identical images of the same resolution. It cannot be used to span an image across two displays, or to show different images on each display.
For independent displays you need to use two separate outputs from the Windtop lll. The way you are doing is only going to be cloned display as you have discovered.
Exactly how are you connecting monitors to your rig and what monitors are they?

  • 5D Mark III Video Problem -- Help Needed!

    Hello,
Been using my 5D Mark III for video for about a month now. I noticed a problem occurring in the middle of certain shots where the color seems to shift. The problem is so slight that it will take full screen, full HD and a high level of concentration to detect. I believe the most obvious occurence is at 28 seconds where the valley below suddenly takes on a different color. Here is a video of my issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw9IHYkUEqQ
    I run these settings:
    Manual Focus
    Aperture, ISO: Manually set
    Shutter Speed: 1/50
    1920x1080 ALL-I 24p
    Picture Style: Faithful
    Custom White Balance
    Auto Lighting Optimizer: OFF
    Highlight Tone Priority: OFF
    High ISO Speed NR: OFF
I tried to see if these were detectible on the LCD screen on the camera, but to the naked eye they are not. The original .MOV files that were transferred from the camera show them.
Could it possibly be the Chromatic Aberration or Peripheral Illumination Correction? I have not disabled these, and they are the only automatic settings that I can think of that would be changing mid-shot.
I believe ISO was set to 100 for these shots.
Any ideas what might be causing this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Max
    Solved!

This looks completely normal.  I don't see a problem.
Be aware that our atmosphere has diffractive properties just like a lens.  When the sun is at or near the horizon it's going to bend light differently depending on the wavelength (i.e. color) of that light.   Colors in the atmosphere and on the ground (since the only way it gets to the ground is to go through the atmosphere) will vary depending on where you point the camera and the position of the sun.  As the sun rises it wont take such a angled path through the atmosphere and this effect is greatly diminished.

  • 5d MK III Video Tutorials??

Hi. I have a 5d Mark III and have completed several film projects, but want to really understand how to shoot video with my camera. I'm not looking for help with the basics of a camera or such, more so
    - what settings are best to shoot video (or how that changes depending on subject) ie sharpness, saturation levels, picture profile
    - what the difference between fps is (ie, why would I shoot 24fps instead of always shooting 50fps and having the option of slowing the footage down)
If anyone could answer these questions that would be great, also I'm wondering if there is good, free, online tutorial website for advanced help with the mark iii for video?
    Cheers
    Mike

There are TONS of videos out there.  Check YouTube with your Search criteria and you'll come up with massive amounts of hits.
Also, Lynda.com (paid site) has a very extensive course on the 5Dm3.
    There are others.
A great site (free) to check out their forums is at Planet5D.
You can also check out Dave Dugdale's YouTube site.  He has some camera-specific info that's fun to watch.
I used to have other resources, but that should these you the right direction.
There is no one answer for your question.  Every situation has a different solution.  Best of luck to you, though.  I'm sure with a bit more research and hands-on practice, you'll find everything you're looking for.

  • How to control DVD player menu functions in DVDSP

I have built a DVD with DVDSP and have everything working as intended except for one thing.
When I press the Home button on the DVD remote, it goes to the DVD player's menu and shows a DVD icon, then when I select the DVD icon, it shows the title list with 4 titles:
    1. Warning (which has all User functions disabled)
    2. Chapter 1
    3. Warning (which I don't understand because there is only 1 warning track)
    4. Menu
I want to set this so when selecting the DVD icon you are directed to the DVD's main menu, and it doesn't display the title list at all.
Just to give more info, the way the DVD is set up is: In the DVD remote function area, I have my title, Menu and Return buttons all routed to my main menu.
There are 4 menus (Home, About, and 2 chapter menu pages), 4 tracks (First play = .25 sec Black which end jumps to a Warning and disclaimer track which end jumps to another .25 seconds of black which jumps to main menu. These have all user functions disabled. The 4th track is the main video with 16 chapters). There are no scripts.
I have tried this with many store bought DVDs and they behave differently. Most show a DVD icon then when that icon is selected, it goes to the main menu screen. Others behave by showing each chapter as a title after selecting dvd icon.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!
Attached are 2x diagrams, how the dvd is currently acting, and how i'd like it to.

Finally, something new here lately!   (well, besides the new look)
In my 13 1/2 years working with DVD Studio Pro (starting back when it was 'simultaneously' Astarte DVDirector and Spruce Maestro) I've never seen a workflow that included the DVD player's system menu as a navigational component in the flow chart for a functional DVD.
    Hi T20,
First of all, are you sure you want to know the answer to this?
The area you bring up is almost a 'blue pill / red pill' kind of thing, or choosing to turn into a 'grasshopper'..., or something like that. Definitely a rabbit hole.  But if you're working for paying clients and are going into mass distribution, i.e., replication, then your question brings up a precisely the kind of multiply connected DVD specification components that are crucial to understand; especially working with an authoring system like DVD Studio Pro.
Of course, if you're good at following directions and would have the trust enough to carry out the successful experiment, then it could be a one-and-have-fun-getting-it-done operation...with full understanding of what just happened reserved for a later date.
Though, to answer your question fully here would take some doing.
Here's what I'm willing to share on this public board about the matter: The short answer would be to remove all of your warning material from the Title Domain in the VTS Spaces, i.e., eliminate the warning clip / black frame Tracks. You should have one Track in your project, according to the intent of the DVD Specifications for your project type.
Important Note: Putting a short duration warning or black frames in an entire VTS is a "best practice" promulgated for years out there that has gotten a lot of good authors in trouble in many types of players; errant navigation, player crashes, disc recalls, etc., and should not be done. In most cases, nothing should be put in a Track that you would not want the viewer to be able to Resume to; and more importantly, the DVD Studio Pro abstraction layer authoring system can not afford to have the first VTS 'wasted'. Real program content with video and however many audio and subtitle streams should reside in the first VTS for all DVD SP projects (more DVD Spec kinda stuff to go over the reasons why).
Once your project is setup optimally, then it's a matter of understanding the DVD Specification "Stopped State" and what both happens and what you want to happen afterwards; which depends on where you were when you got into the stopped state and other factors.
The below page images (unreadable, but to show there's quite a bit to it) are from the official DVD Specifications for Read Only Discs - Part III VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS.  The page image on the left starts the several page section in the DVD Specifications devoted to what's allowed for navigation commands between domains - and what navigation commands and (unfortunate) circumstances cause playback to go into the "5th domain" - the stopped state.  The Image on the Right starts the section in the specs for what happens and what's allowed by the remote control user operations (UOPs) between domains, including from the Stopped State.
The player will use what's allowed by spec in the UOPs to take you out of its setup menu and into the chosen target in the various domains. Though, I have found several players that pretty much do what they want in this regard, as well, but my method takes care of them, too (what player model are you using, may I ask?  I have over 200 players here, and might have that guy).
The somewhat challenging part is working with DVD SP's abstraction layer auto-programming so as to anticipate this revival of playback from the Stopped State - which never occurs from the authored First Play PGC, as well as player variances with options they allow from their system menus.
So an adjusted startup First Play program routing (looks kinda 'weird' in the DVD SP project interface) would then handle a chosen Menu to play from that players system setup screen, whether the viewer chooses the "Menu" or the one remaining "Title" option. It took me 3 years to figure this out, but has been working flawlessly for hundreds of replicated titles since the fall of 2006.
Good question, t20. It takes quite a bit to get me out my 'bat cave' these days. Also, I'm about to start up my old "TFDVD.com" DVD SP support site again soon (adding Scenarist Professional support), this time under what I hope to be a true "DVD Producers Guild", and it's great to see some of this kind of 'life' still out there!
My first major article for the new site is tentatively entitled "The Most Perfect DVD Startup Action" and I will, in 'excruciating detail', cover not only the many reasons a discs startup strategy is crucial, and how to implement the DVD Specification and DVD player experience based startup principles for various types of DVD Projects, but also how to keep control of navigation during startup from the Stopped State in players.  This article will have illustrated specific instructions for the DVD Studio Pro and Scenarist Professional authoring systems (Note to my good 'little monsters' from back in the day; this is not the same article from my 2001 article with a similar name).

  • Log and transfer troubles

    Hi,
I'm using Log & Transfer in order to import my Canon EOS 5d Mk iii video files on Final Cut Pro 7. Until 2 days ago it was working without problems. Now he doesn't work: since is starting the conversion it shows "clip duration 23 hours" and it doesn't create any converted video files... any suggestion?

There was a recent post with the advice that the timecode slection in the camera menu had to be set to free run in order for Log&Transfer to work properly. So I would double-check that setting.
I assume (since it worked before) you have the latest EOS plug-in. Lion seems to be the most recent OS that it supports.

  • 4 stream Multicam stuttering in playback

I have a 4 stream multicam timeline with 1080/30P footage, 2 streams from XDCAM EX cameras and two from 5D Mark III's.  Clip is 29 minutes long and after the first 4-5 minutes playback is stuttering regardless of where I have playback resolution set.  I double checked that I was on Cuda render.  I'm using an internal 7200 rpm drive with write speed at 150.5 MB/s and read speed at 179.1 MB/s.  Any suggestions on how to remedy this rather annoying issue.  If I pause and restart it will play for 5-10 seconds then starts stuttering again.  Trashed preferences & restarted with no apparent effect.

You're right, I have changed the frame size and adjusted an inconsistency in settings (in one place, I had audio set to 44 GHZ). It's working fine in playback now, BUT I still have the problem in print to tape mode, audio stutters in different place every time.

  • DVD studio pro DISC Resume

I have made a DVD with a menu, four stories, and a play all button. When playing any of these and than pressing the stop button it obviously stops the program but when pressing stop again to clear the resume and pressing play it plays the first track rather then the menu which is already set a the first play and the title. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Rezo,
Both you and the iRobot production team have authored the disc incorrectly. It's easy to even crash many Hollywood discs with some remote operations, so don't feel bad.
Most players will start up with Title 1 (the Track in VTS 1 as seen in your VTS View in the Outline tab area) after a true stopped state has been entered. This is the correct behavior for all DVD players if stop is initiated in the "Title Domain", and is as per DVD Specifications (Part III, VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS - 3.3 System Model, 3.3.8 Transition by User Operations - pages VI3-44 & VI3-45).
The Stop state also clears out register values, which can cause some projects to begin to navigate erratically. It's best for the disc startup sequence and restart from Stop to be authored for similar, if not exact routing, so all disc variable values are reinitialized properly.
Navigation does something else if playback restarts from a stop initiated from within the Menu Domains. This can get quite complex, especially with Abstraction layer authoring systems like DVD SP.

  • CANON 5D MARK III TO FCP 7-WHY ARE THERE LINES IN MY VIDEO?

Hi there, so Ive just upgraded from the T2i to Canon 5D Mark III and this is the first time I'm importing footage to final cut. I have FCP 7 (Mac computer) and my video files are 1920x1080, h264 codec shot at 30 fps (29.97). Previously, when importing from the T2i, I used MPEG Streamclip to convert my video files to Apple Prores 422, and then import those compressed files into FCP 7, with field dominance being UPPER, pixels SQUARE. I never had an issue of quality loss or lines through my viewer and canvas using these settings. However, after attempting to do the same with my footage from the Mark III, I got lines through my footage. After researching a bit, I was convinced that the way to eliminate the problem was to download the 5DTORGB app for $50. This has not fixed my problem! Have tried multiple combinations of different field dominance settings and nothing is working. Is this an interlacing problem? I attempted to catch a screenshot but everytime I pause the video or take a shot, the lines do not show...I do not know what is going on! My original mov files are fine, it is only once I convert and import to final cut that they get these little lines... I am desperate for answers, please someone help!!!

You need to ask this on the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • HELP! CANON 5D MARK III TO FCP 7- WHAT IS CORRECT COMPRESSION? LINES THROUGH VIDEO-HELP!

Hi there, so Ive just upgraded from the T2i to Canon 5D Mark III and this is the first time I'm importing footage to final cut. Still no change....However, I did export a trial and the vid looks fine, no lines. I guess fcp is just being a little *****! It is just really frustrating me to have to work with these lines going through my clips, even if they do not appear in my exported file....I feel that there must be some hidden issue with my sequence settings....Could you possibly provide a screenshot of the appropriate sequence settings you would use to match a 1920x1080 file with 29.97 fps (already converted from h264 to apple prores 422 thru 5DTORGB) ? I know that usually it is fine to import the newly compressed prores files, and then set sequence to match clips, but since I'm having issues, maybe setting the sequence directly would help?
This is what my sequence settings look like right now, after being matched to my prores clip....
I am concerned because it shows Aspect ratio as HDTV 1080i (16:9) though you have told me my clips from the 5D should be progressive (so shouldnt it be 1080p not 1080i??) Being that there is not option in frame size for 1080p, i tried selecting the "Custom (16:9)" option, but it will not allow it...Just sets it back to 1080i......Any thoughts?
