  • Installing Windows XP on HP Pavilion Notebook with Free-DOS

Today I spent 7h in unsuccessful attempts to install WinXP on my new HP Pavilion notebook. The problem comes from the fact that there are no SATA drivers installed for the HDD and everytime I try to boot>install Win>... it fails. WinXP gives me 0x0000007b error. If anybody could help me I'd be really grateful. I tried Win7 as well, but it fails also. A friend of mine who is rather "into" the whole Software/Hardware business suggested that I try to make a new WinXP 7 with the program nlite and try to add the necessary drivers to it. The problem is I simply can't find which drivers I need. Anyways. I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you all in advance!
P.S.When I enter BIOS I can't change anything as the BIOS doesn't show any HDD device, no SATA, nothing.

    Hi:
There are thousands of models of HP notebooks all with different hardware.
If your model is a new model with an amd processor you can forget it.
If your model is a new model with an intel 4th generation core processor or pentium n or j processor you can forget it.
The only way you will get XP to install on a new notebook is if it has an Intel 3rd generation or older core processor or an Intel series 7 or older chipset.

  • Microphone not working on dv7 Pavilion Notebook (Windows 7)

The microphone on my dv7 Pavilion Notebook is not working.  I checked the sliding volume controls and have tried updating my drivers.  A few weeks ago, I “unchecked” a few startup items using msconfig.  Is it possible, I “unchecked” an item related to the microphone?  Please advise
In addition, I tried updating the CyberLink YouCam software, but I am unable to uninstall the existing software in order allow the updated software to properly install.  When uninstalling the program, I receive a “1628 Fail” notification.  Is there another way to force the  un-installation of CyberLink YouCam?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
First, regarding the microphone problem, try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58001-58500/sp58226.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again before cheecking if the microphone works.
Regarding being unable to uninstall Cyberlink Youcam, see if you can remove it using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link - this is particularly useful in correcting issues on machines running a 64bit OS.

  • USB 3.0 Upgrade for HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

Is it possible to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC to USB 3.0?  I've been searching the website and google and haven't found any concrete answers just yet.  I'd rather not have to buy a new laptop just to get USB 3.0.  It's been the most reliable pc I've ever had and I don't wantn to replace it!
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi,
You have to buy a new laptop or swap the system/motherboard or buy an Express card - USB 3 (I've got one) or PC card - USB 3. For desktop , this is much simpler, a PCI - USB 3 card will do.
    Regards.

  • On Windows 7 PC, got the "upgrade iTunes" notice, said sure, but the upgrade failed, now I can't access iTunes "invalid permissions"

On Windows 7 PC, got the "upgrade iTunes" notice this morning, said sure, but the upgrade failed, now I can't access iTunes "invalid permissions"
I wasn't paying attention so I don't know the precise error I got on the upgrade failure.
All other iTunes upgrades have been fine...no brainers.  Done several on this W7 PC.
If I re-download and install a fresh iTunes I assume I will lose my library...true?  Can I find and save off my library so I don't have to "discover" all my music which is scattered all over the PC and a 1T attached USB drive.
Or is there some way to get the iTunes upgrade to successfully restart and install correctly?
    Help!

    Hello there, Konami84.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some recomendations for troubleshooting:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

  • HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p189sa Downgrade to Window 7

    Hi,
I have bought this laptop HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p189sa with window 8.1 64bit.
I didn't know about the poor performance and issues of Window 8.1 .
Although I have tried this OS , I want to downgrade to a reliable and better operation system.
    Why I change ?
    - The wifi network icone doesn't work property, when I change the network it disables by itsalf and it is impossible to renable it then I have to restart the laptop.
    - The interface is orrible
    - Sometimes the laptop takes hours before to turn off or I doesn't turn ever off
So these are the most reasons why I want to change this not usable and unfriendly OS .
The problem to downgrade is the drivers which are not available on the hp support website.
    Can I use the wind8 drivers for wind7 ?
maybe a program can adapt the drivers for wind7 ?
I'm not able to develop by myself the drivers so what do you suggest ?
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
You should be able to use the W7 x64 drivers and software from the 15t-p000, except the BIOS and firmware files.
Make a note now of what model wireless card you have so you don't have to guess which one of the 12 network drivers you need to install.

  • HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p100dx downgrade to windows 7

Hi, Im Colt and I recently purchased a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p100dx and it came with windows 8.1  I have to use windows 7 at work and currently cannot install it from my flash drive due to the way the hard drive is partioned for 8.1 Will need drivers for windows 7 for this motherboard and chipset.  And need to know how to get to command propt from startup prior to going into windows from what I figure.  Can someone please help.  Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
I just bought this laptop and downgraded it to win7.
1st thing you need to do is boot to bios (f10)
In the bios you need to enable legacy then save (f10)
Boot menu (f9) at start up.
Selct boot device (usb or dvd)
Custom install and delete all partitions
    Then install win7
As far as drivers go, it took me a lot of looking to find all of them.
I now have a backup of all the drivers if you need them.
I am curently going through the process of doing all the windows updates.
I will post a link later when i get home for drivers
Win7 runs great on this laptop.

IPAM Upgrade Failed - Windows Server 2012 R2
    Hi All,
I'm experiencing some problems with the upgrade procedure of an IPAM service hosted on a Windows Server 2012 R2 instance which originally was deployed on a non-R2 version. I've recently done in-place upgrade of the W2K12 OS to W2K12R2 which went absolutely
fine, however when I'm trying to upgrade the IPAM service itself (from v6.2.0.1 to v6.3.0.1), I'm receiving an error message right after the database schema update procedure.
    Received error message:
Failed to convert Schema. Please see the details.
The given key was not present in the dictionary.
Please restart the Wizard to update the IPAM server.
Tried to restart the wizard several times, but it ends up with the same result.
Also I noticed that the event log shows some authentication problems with the WID DB service:
Connecting to IPAM database failed with,
        Number: 18456
        ErrorCode: -2146232060
        Level: 14
        State: 1
Message: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'.
    For database,
        Database Type: WindowsInternalDatabase

        Database Path: C:\Windows\System32\ipam\Database
        Database Server:
        Database Server Port: 0

The original IPAM deployment was pretty much a standard one by the official MS guides so there were no custom actions applied at any point in time. Right now I can access neither the IPAM features nor the previously made inventory, because server manager wouldn't
let me do so until the upgrade is complete. For the time being this upgrade failure seems to be a bug.
Kindly ask you to help me out with this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 10 upgrade fail - black screen

Hi - installed windows 10 via upgrade - failed part way through with the error message "something happened". Downloaded the install ISO for usb drive - did a clean install from that (including format HD) - win10 installed ok, then 10 min later screen went black. I left the pc for several hours - nothing happened so I did a hard reset. Now when I turn on it powers up, passes bios message, then hangs on black screen. If I hard reset again the windows diagnostic runs but finds no solution - I can boot in to Safe Mode but when restarting again goes back to black screen. I've tried plugging in an external monitor to the hdmi -no luck. Have tried clean reinstall several times- no luck. Any suggestions?

If I don't install the graphics drivers, Windows Update automatically downloads and installs drivers which then cause the black screen. The only solution I have so far is to set my wifi connection as "metered" so it doesn't download and install updates automatically. I can install other updates and drivers manually, but this isn't ideal.

  • Pavilion DV7t-4100 hard drive upgrade fail

Hello all, thanks for taking the time to read my question. I'm stuck in the process of upgrading and HP Pavilion DV7T–4100 laptop. The machine is a couple of years old runs Windows 7 and came originally equipped with two Toshiba 300GB hard drives. The hard drives are configured for one drive,C:, to host the operating system the second drive,D:, to host data. The D drive has now run out of room. I have purchased a Samsung spinpoint 2TB hard drive in order to have more space, but what I thought would be an easy upgrade turned into many long hours and frustration, not to mention funny looks from the wife.
Here is what I've done to date:
    1. Connected the new 2 TB hard drive to the computer via USB (Windows recognizes hard drive)
    2. Cloned the D: drive onto the new hard drive using Seagate disc wizard (also tried mini tool partition wizard) maintaining the original partition size.
    3. Turned the computer off, removed the D drive and installed the 2TB drive in its place.
    4. Restarted the computer only to find that Windows would not see the new drive. Attempted to find a drive-by going to computer management /storage/disk management where was not present either. Rebooted the computer once more, went into BIOS where I discovered that it does not see the new drive. BIOS does not have an option to discover new hardware.
    5. Suspecting a bad drive, bad cable, or other bad things, I replaced the original D: drive back. Everything seems to work fine. The computer sees the original D: drive through SATA and the replacement drive through USB. Leaving me where I started, still out of room....
    6. Following new advice, I reformatted to drive with just a single volume and no data in it. I didn't want to drive via SATA but neither bios norwindows and see it.
My question is: How do I get the BIOS to recognize the replacement hard drive, so that windows will recognize the replacement hard drive, so that my wife won't recognize I'm an idiot?

    Hi
    You're welcome
    Few things:
Update bios & chipset from your product download site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4317...
Now put the new 2tb hdd & check
If no joy, don't remove it - go to disk management , take a screenshot & please post it here.
Now power off, wait - then power on again - go to bios setup & boot device options to check if you can see the 2tb hdd in anywhere here.
If no joy, proceed & shut down - take out 2tb and connect it via USB , power on - go Disk Management - take a screenshot and please post it here.
Hope you have formatted previously the hdd from Disk Management by right clicking the hdd in the lower graphical console - New Simple Volume -> format, Am I correct?
Also, please post the model number/name of both Toshiba 300gb old hdd & the new 2tb Seagate hdd.
    AT LAST,
Just blow out with dry canned air - the sata port of second hdd bay , after shutting down laptop completely & after doing a hard reset.
And try connecting 2tb hdd again and check.
Also, can you check if the 2tb hdd is working by testing it in another laptop by connecting via sata.

    Hi @Gary46 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-3180ea Notebook and issues with updates. I would just ignore the update. It does happen from time to time that the update will not go through as your system is already updated and that is why it fails.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers that might need updating on your system.
It shows me that there seems to be interference with Software task, usually your virus protection.
You might have to disable this software and then run the Windows update.
I hope this fixes things up for you.
    Thanks.
