Windows 7 not forgetting disconnected USB devices, only on one PC, but not others/difer OS
Okay so I've got 3 computers:
1. Asus M5A99X EVO MOBO, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
2. Lenovo Ideapad u310 LAPTOP, Windows 8 (just 8)
3. Asrock z87e-ITX MOBO, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
This issue only happens on computer 3 under windows 7.
I've got a KVM switch that's supposed to make switching between these computers easier, it's very basic, it has one USB port going into it, and I plug my keyboard into that, my keyboard has a USB port on it that I plug my mouse into.
When I'm on windows 7 on computer 3 the KVM works fine for about the first 4-7 switches between it and another computer. But after that I get "USB Bandwidth Exceeded" popups. I can switch the port it's plugged into the computer and it will start
working again, but that defeats the purpose of having a KVM. And today it even locked up while I was MANUALLY switching the cable between my computers front access ports, because obviously the KVM wasn't reliable (like I switched between computers once every
4-10 minutes), and even BSOD on me.
I've contacted both Asrock and the KVM manufacturer and they both say it's the other's fault.
So I shrank my C: on Comp3 today and installed windows 8.1 on it, and than I spammed the KVM switching like 8+ times, and it never once locked up or complained about me exceeding the bandwidth.
So that means it's now Windows 7's fault, but it doesn't do this for Comp1.
Somehow my new computers Windows 7 is not working right, and I don't know any viable options I can do about it. (comp3 is only about 1-2 weeks old) I've ran all the windows updates I can and it no longer says there are new updates when i run it.
So I need some help about finding out why my Comp3's Win7 isn't forgetting that a USB device is no longer attached, because Win8.1 seems to have no problem with it.
And just sticking with Windows 8 isn't really the solution, as I can't %^#$#!@ stand Windows8/Metro/Tiles/tablet$@!#onmydesktop.
(laptop is a work laptop and i have no choice, but it's modded so I have my start menu back, but still it's annoying anytime I accidentally leave my desktop.)
...because it happens with even just the keyboard.
Even though it all works with Win8.1 have you:
-Tried a different keyboard?
-Tried connecting mouse and keyboard to an external powered hub and connecting the hub to the kvm?
-Tried connecting kvm to powered hub?

I recently bought an Ipod touch 2nd gen, (Ebay). It's in great shape and seemed to be wiped clean.
When I connect (via windows computer) to Itunes with usb cord the Ipod icon shows, but the only function you can do is eject. When its in the upper right hand corner and you click on it all you get is a done button, when it's in the side bar right click and your only option is eject, left click has no effect. Just purchased a office jet 6500A Plus so that I can print from my iPhone and iPad. I can print form my iPhone but my iPad 2 tells me there is no air printer available. Why does one device recognize the air printer but the other device does not?
I have the 6500A without plus and it is with a LAN cable connected with my Router.
First make sure you have the latest printer firmware installed.
Next restart the printer and the Router.
I had the same. Problem but it went away after rebooting the Router. -

AFAIK, nothing on my Mac is using the Axim right now, I have even disabled "Missing sync for Windows Mobile" and stopped it from loading so it must be the Mac OS not releasing the USB link so my Windows XP within Parallel is not able to pick up the Axim right now.
In Windows, there's a "Remove Hardware" option. Mac Pro randomly disconnecting USB devices
Hello All,
Am hoping someone out there will be able to advise me. I have a 1TB external SATA drive connected directly to one of my Mac Pro USB ports, (that is, not via a USB hub). The Mac Pro has a habit of randomly disconnecting the drive during file transfers. It seems to particularly do it when the screen saver initiates itself. I've disabled the screen saver but unfortunately that hasn't resolved the problem. The problem itself doesn't seem to be isolated to the external USB hard drive either. The Mac has on occasions disconnected other USB devices too.
Any suggestions or ideas on what the cause of it is and how I resolve it?

GPJ007Yes Grant, I've exchanged the power suppply, cables, the HUB and also the HDD and checked them on my MBP - they work fine. The only USB slot that's working fine is the one on the PCI-E Card. All internal Ports do eject the USB HDD's and also have problem with Printercommunication. I can mount the USB HDD without Problem, until I want to access a larger File or transfer data from or to it, then it ejects itself - well after freezing the Computer for 5min first, until the unmount message appear.
By the way: Sorry, was a bit frustrated. I'm working as an Freelance Editor and really need to have a working USB. But the only thing I found were a huge amount of questions to the same problem, but no solution. And from apple side the only advice was to not use third party device or use only powered HDD's and HUB's. That's not really helpful...
GPJ007: Ok, I hoped to not have to make a new Setup of the OS and all the program. Well in a few weeks there is a gap in the order chain, I'm going to reinstall the OS then and let you know about sucess or not.

Window's XP, Labview, and USB device conflicts

I have labview 2011 running on windows XP SP3 with all of the updates and the USB hotfix.
I have several usb devices connected to my computer: 3 cameras, a picoammeter, a piezo drive controller, and an external hard drive.
I wrote labview code to use one of the cameras to take time lapse imagery, and it works great, so long as none of the other devices are on/connected. The second I plug in another USB device invariably I get an error message:

which according to the documentation is a USB transfer error.
I was told to update Windows XP with the newest updates, I did and it didn't help. Someone also suggested using Windows 7, but several of my devices arent supported by windows 7 currently, so I don't want to upgrade and lose those devices.
The other thing is that when I use multiple devices with their respective software(not labview) they behave and play well together. It's only when labview is accessing them that they don't behave and give me errors.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been trying to fix it for a while with no successWe have a "monitoring" application that involves taking a short video (5 to 10 seconds) when a particular event occurs. We used IMAQdx to acquire the images from an ethernet camera. We are actually monitoring 24 sites simultaneously (and asynchronously), and as each of the cameras has its own IP address, it wasn't difficult to keep them "apart" from each other.
We recently tried doing the same thing using a USB camera. When we used a single camera (one station), things worked pretty well, but when we tried using multiple stations (2 or 3, let alone 24!), we got "interference". We attributed it to overloading the bandwidth of the USB channel -- as we already had a viable and working solution with (more expensive!) Ethernet cameras, we shrugged and (for now) gave up on using multiple USB cameras. -

Make sure you installed intel chipset drivers since some times USB host controller driver is in that pack such USB 3.0 controller and so -
USB devices only recognized after running 'lsusb -v'
This is quite an annoying problem. My USB devices are only recognized (and auto-mounted) after I run lsusb -v. Nothing shows up in dmesg before this. After running it, all is well. I have to repeat this every time I plug in a device.
Any suggestions?The problem is not with just USB storage devices, but with other devices too (printers, DVB sticks, mice).

I have time machine saving onto two usb drives.
The total size of the files being backed up is 4.6TB.
Each external USB drive is 6TB. So I have 12 TB of space for Time Machine.
Why is time machine only updating one USB drive? (One drive has been the same for two weeks.)
I have selected both drives in the Time Machine settings panel.
My understanding was that it would do a full backup, and then incremental backups of changed files, getting rid of old copies as needed, and alternate between the two drives.
But it looks like drive A has one complete backup, dated two weeks ago, and drive B is the only one getting action.
There is a red icon on drive one that says the drive needs 120GB more space to do a backup -- which is strange since the whole backup set is only 4.6TB in size, and the drive is 6TB in size...You could try a clone instead.

DNS not resolving on one Mac but the other works fine in same local network
Snow Leopard is doing something strange to the DNS or the permission to ping.
I have 2 Macs on the same local network, connect through the same ISP (verizon FIOS). One has no problem resolving any domain, but the other is constantly not resolving some domains.
The problem progresses like this:
* All of a sudden, DNS is not resolving from Ethernet (when it did perfectly well a minute ago).
* Then I switched to wireless (using the same LAN), and it resolved fine.
* Then it failed completely a few minutes later.
* Then I reboot my Mac, and it seemed to clear that, and worked for a day.
* Then it failed again in both Ethernet and Wireless; rebooting does not fix it.
* I cleared all the caches using Onyx, did "dscacheutil -flushcache", zapped the PRAM, reinstalled 10.6.2 combo update, repaired the permission, nothing works.
* Since the unresolved domain is my own domain, I changed the nameserver, and waited for it to propagate to see if that may be the problem, since it appeared that it is not resolving the A Record, and I waited 72 hours, and it is not resolved or propagating to the local DNS, but it worked perfectly well on my other Mac within the same network.
* Then I added other DNS, such as google DNS 8.8.8.8 or openDNS servers to it, but it didn't fix anything.
* Then I "ping" either the unresolved domain or my own Mac .local, and it gave me the error "permission denied". (Whereas I have no problem pinging my own Mac or the unresolved domain in my other Mac that works!).
* Then I "sudo ping" the unresolved domain or my own Mac, and it pinged perfectly well.
* Then I tried "ping6" my own Mac or the unresolved domain on the broken Mac, and it worked fine!
* Also, I used http://network-tools.com to ping it, and noticed that during the trace, somewhere along the route through te7-2.dsr02.dllstx3.theplanet.com and po2.car04.dllstx5.theplanet.com, it timed out along the route, so I don't know if the timeout could have been causing the reject, but I doubted, because "sudo ping" locally will get through but "ping" does not.
So I think I traced the Snow Leopard DNS problem as follows:
* Why does "ping6" works, but "ping" permission is denied unless the user is root?
* I tried to "chmod 4755 ping" but it won't let me.
* Is it because DNS is resolving using IPv6 but not IPv4?
* Or is Snow Leopard somehow screwed up the permission to access ping or similar DNS service?
* Why DNS has no problem in one Mac but caused problem on the other Mac, even though they are in the same local network?
* The only difference between the Macs maybe because I have Parallels installed in the Mac that failed to resolve DNS (with the extra Parallels Shared Ethernet), which may be interfering with it, but I tried to turn Parallels Shared Ethernet off, and it did not fix the problem.
Can anyone help or have any idea that I can fix this nagging bug with DNS? The DNS had worked before, but it simply quit working all of a sudden, and nothing can resurrect it.
Thanks.Shut down Parallels and restart w/o letting any of Parallels TCP/IP stack resurrect itself. So many network issues with VM solutions. See if the problem persists. Create a new account and ping from there. Are your search domains manually entered on the 10.6 box?

VMWare Workstation 8 did not see any USB devices, only BT dongle
No errors reported, just no devices available. With 7.1.4 there was no problems, Virtualbox works well too.
Is it my installation's personal bug or known issue?
System is Arch x86_64 on Asus Rampage II motherboard (Intel X58/ICH10R).

Windows 8.1 forgets dpi / display size settings for one monitor on almost every reboot
I use TV 32" with 1920x1080 and cintiq 13" with 1920x1080
when I boot my PC the resolution is fine but DPI is wrong.
In smaller monitor It's look like DPI is higher than the bigger one.
I already set dpi to be the same (smallest 100%) but it's not work until I do something to change display setting.
It's really annoy me. This problem is not happen when I use windows 8
Only solution I found is turn off
"Turn on fast start-up".
When I do that It's boot like what I want. every monitor is the same DPI.
But it'll make my boot time longer.
It should be just start up windows and use the same dpi from the start.
So I think this problem is a bug in windows 8.1

I've already used the latest graphic card driver. But It's won't help this issue.
In registry editor. I check those variables then value of them is already set like that blog suggest.
So , it look like when windows start-up(with fast start-up) It use something like
suggest value for different monitor size instead of what I set in control panel. But when I turn off fast start-up windows use my setting value.
And I think there are a lot of people who got the same problem as me.

Why is external hard drive read-only on one Mac, but read/write on another?
I have a Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive. I bought it to be compatible with both Windows and Mac, which it currently is. It works just fine on my PC and my MacBook. However, recently, I bought a MacBook Pro. The Seagate drive shows up as read only on the MacBook Pro, though it is read/write on my MacBook. It's formatted NTFS, yes, but it already works on my MacBook. What's going on here?
Nope, one of the selling points of the drive was that it came ready to work with both Mac and Windows (the product description says there is an NTFS drive installed for use on Mac). No hacking or installing on my part.
But I think I figured it out. Apparentely, Mavericks comes installed with something that does not allow it to write NTFS no matter what (well, unless you go through a whole bunch of technical stuff to rewrite the software). My old MacBook was Leopard.
I'll just reformat the external hard drive for Mac, and if I ever need to use it on a Windows, I'll install HFS+ Explorer on the Windows. Oh well. -
How to enter MR results only on one register even when other reg r MR relev

I have Device with 4 registers (1- Cummulative and rest are Balancing) . In the happy flow, i get the MR results from MDMR system and will be uploaded against the respective registers. So no problem.
But when i have exchange or removals, user will have only the register read for R1 to enter but not TOU values for 2/3 and 4 registers. Since 2,3 and 4 are also MR relevant, system will not allow to save without entering.
How to overcome this ?

You should load ZERO value consumption on R2, R3 and R4. Let the system load it.
At the end of your flow, update the MR status (EABL-ABLSTAT) for R2, R3, R4 to ZERO. Why this action your MR documents will be reset to MR Order status, with the exception on R1, which you which to keep.

My thunderbird has stopped downloading messages in one of my accounts, the other two accounts, from different providers, are working fine.
We have two PC's downloading messages from the same account, and it has worked fine like this for years. The other PC is still receiving the messages. I've checked my webmail, and can log in fine there, the settings in my account have not been changed in Thunderbird, and are the same as the other PC.
I looked in the error console in Thunderbird, this is what message I get :
