Windows 7 Pro SP1 ships with IE11. I need IE8 that used to run on Win7 - what choices do I have?
Hi all,
The reason for this post is our need for IE8 for compliance with company requirements (web apps of a big and cumbersome company that will only run on IE8).
We received a non hand manageable number of brand new dell aio 9020 machines with Win7 Pro SP1 and need to downgrade to IE8.
The official microsoft download site features IE8 for Vista, Server 2008, XP and not for Win 7. None works on Win 7.
I would like an official IE8 setup that runs on Win7 as it used to
in the initial versions for sure. Other requirement is that it should be in italian localization, but though important I consider it secondary.
The expensive solutions are to reinstall machines with Win7 off an old version of Win 7 (where to find old Win7 setup disc, how to use current license shipped with the PC's?)
A creative idea I had was to try to extract IE8 form "Internet Explorer Application Compatibility VPC Image" by pulling any dependency / dll ecc but I assume the result might not work. How, if viable is yet a question and it would only be in english.
I am here asking anyone or better official MS people, what solutions there are.
The end result must be an actual IE8 running.
Grateful for help - even pointing to another section or place to ask for this kind of support,
GG
PS happy new year!
Hi all,
I found a solution that I will share in case someone else is seeking this answer.
I did not try the solution provided here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2579295
I instead disabled the windows functionality (not sure wether necessary, will test and edit this)
Dism /online /disable-feature /FeatureName:"Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64"
;FYI dism /online /get-features - for a list of windows features to enable or disable
Probably unnecessary to disable anyway but worth sharing dism for other potentially interested users.
Then I uninstalled updates of IE and from IE11 I found IE8 (the base of Win7)
; FYI dism /online /get-packages /format:table > updates.txt - then read IE related and uninstall as follows
DISM.exe /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Microsoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~11.2.9412.0 /quiet /norestart

DISM.exe /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-Package-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~11.2.9600.16428 /quiet /norestart
Restart and find IE8 :-)
For other debloaters or second hand customizers (sysprep is an option, not on all scenarios like OEM installs and no specific concerns)

Unable to install Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64
Hi guys,
I have a Dell all in one 2310 and Dell had came out to replace the HDD as it was faulty, now when I try to install Windows 7 Pro SP1 onto the unit it comes up with "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting
to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.
I have checked in the BIOS and the settings seem ok as in the SATA drives are enabled and on AHCI..
When using diskpart to list the volumes it also cannot see the drive,
HELP!!As Rick Dee says, the issue is with the hardware and not related to Windows. Moreover, SATA is in AHCI mode, so more information is needed. It's better to contact Dell technical support, as said by Rick Dee, so that it'll be solved as soon as possible.
The new hard drive may also be replaced, if the situation worsens. Additionally, if the PC is under warranty, Dell technician will assist you in installation of Windows.

Call the store & ask them! -
I have a MacBook Pro using my Apple ID and Password, can I home share with my wife's iPad that uses her Apple ID and password
You have to all be signed into the same Apple ID and on the same WiFi network, but yes you can do it. You have to sign into her Apple ID on your iPad in the store settings.

Question
I have problem since I download fire fox 4 it doesn't remember my windows live ID, only the last one with are 4 different people that use the computerSuch a feature is stored in a cookie. Firefox only keeps one set of cookies for all open tabs. So only the last user is remembered.
You can look this extension if you want to sign on with different identities at the same time:

Problem with HP-UX extended procedures that use C++ Standard library

I was about to remove my Win7 with BootCamp but suddenly I ran out of power & my MacBookPro turned off , when I began again I saw that the space that I had for my Win7 has been blocked & I have no access to that, what shall I do now? :-l
thanksI hope you are able to solve your problem. The iPhone is definitely designed to be able to run the power all the way down. In fact, the instructions to maintain your battery suggest doing that once a month. I do it now and then, not usually once a month and I am always able to get my phone back to where it would be usable in about 10 minutes of charge. I always keep it in the charger until it is fully charged, however.
I just didn't want you to think you made some big mistake to let it run out of charge. There must be something going on with your phone or the battery. -
Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 wont install Internet Explorer 10
Hey all,
Having an issue on my clients machine and I have yet to figure it out. The machine is a Dell Latitude E6330 running a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional SP1 install. Currently the machine has Internet Explorer 9 on it which is unacceptable due to compatibility
with a client website he uses.
Every single time Windows Updates are ran everything will update and install correctly except for
KB2830477 and Internet Explorer 10 giving me Error Codes
800736B3 and 9C59.
I have attempted installing these two updates manually by downloading them from Microsoft website and installing them in different orders. KB2830477 says that it's not compatible with my system and IE 10 simply fails to install.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I've hit a wall here.
Microsoft MCSA, VMWare VCAP-DTD, Cisco CCNP, CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, Apple ACMT, SPRMethod 1:The System File Checker tool
To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the
system files by using the correct versions.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
1. Click
Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click
cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click
Continue
3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow
For more information visit the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212
Now you can try to perform the Windows update and check if the issue persists.
Method 2:
System resources, such as file data, registry data, and even in-memory data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifetime of the operating system. These inconsistencies might be caused by various hardware failures or might be caused by software
issues. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows servicing store, and they can cause software updates not to work. The System Update Readiness Tool tries to resolve these inconsistencies.
After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a onetime scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations. This scan typically takes less than 15 minutes to run. However, the tool might take significantly longer
on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.
For more information and to download the “System update readiness tool” visit the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Method 3: You may also try to perform a “Clean boot” and check if the issue persists.
NOTE: THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE DISCLAIMER
Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using
Third Party Software is at your own risk.
Clean boot:
Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to modify the advanced boot
options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable.
a.
Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
b. Click Start, type
msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click
Continue.
c. On the General tab, click
Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The
Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
d. On the Services
tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click
Disable all.
Note Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points.
Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
e. Click OK, and then click
Restart.
Note: Reset the computer to start as usual
After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
a. Click Start, type
msconfig.exe in theStart Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click
Continue.
b.
On the General tab, click the
Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
c. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click
Restart.

Windows XP Pro x64 problem with hardware aud
I just upgraded my computer and with this upgrade I installed Windows XP Pro x64. I am having the following symptoms and I am wondering if they aren't part of a larger problem.
When I run DXDiag (either the 32 or 64bit version) I get the following error message during the tests on the Sound tab: "Your sound card does not support hardware buffering. Sounds will only play back from software buffers.". Is this normal for Windows XP Pro x64. I've used this OS before (with my older system) and never saw that message and used 2 different X-Fi cards during that time!
I also have this problem...While running Thief Deadly Shadows, when I enable "Audio Hardware Mixing" I loose all sound. And I am unable to enable "EAX Advanced HD" and "EAX Multiple Environments".
It seems like I can't enable hardware audio. But I also have Lord of The Rings Online installed and it appears to be using it's hardware audio ok, but when I change from hardware to software it crashes if I don't disable EAX first, so it's not perfect. Is this card faulty or is this typical of WXPx64 or what?
Thanks...
My system specs are: Intel E6850, Asus P5K Deluxe (0404 BIOS), Corsair Twin2X4096-6400DHX, EVGA e-Geforce 8800 GTX, Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, Intel PRO/000 PT Server Adapter, Enermax Galaxy 000W Gamers Edition. I think that's all that's relevant.Message Edited by Zapper_Weisman on 07-27-20070:2 AMI disabled the Memory Remap Feature in the BIOS and my DXDiag and Thief problems went away. I had a hunch it was related to this. But now my question is, am I just out of luck, in terms of having to sacrifice some of my RAM (3.25GBs instead of 4GBs) to get my sound card working properly? It seems to me that this is a driver issue, as I've read others say that Creative never really supported x64 fully.
Does anyone have anything to offer on this? Thanks...Message Edited by Zapper_Weisman on 07-27-20070:22 AM -
Desktop Windows XP Pro/SP1 to HP Laptop Windows 7 problems
My Dell desktop running Windows XP Pro died. Loaded iTunes libraries on discs from old drive (still have old drive w/info intact). Downloaded new iTunes onto new HP dv7 laptop and then loaded libraries from discs into iTunes. Got all sorts of error messages (-2096), a problem with Quicktime, told me to uninstall iTunes (did that and downloaded again several times, compatibility issues, couldn't find original files (I've got the CD's), etc. It did seem to recognize my 1GB shuffle and started to pull some purchased songs off of it, but not my 20GB iPod. It already had me reset my other 2GB shuffle and I lost everything. Anyone have experience getting Windows XP libraries into Windows 7 and getting it to recognize the older iPods?

Crikey. Are you still getting the compatibility mode errors, Fairway? If so, is that a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or a 32-bit version of Windows 7? -
Last night I received the Windows 8.1 update and it has caused Remote Server Administration Tools to stop working. I tried to reinstall the tools using Windows8.1-KB2693643-x64.msu but get the following error:

Any help on this issue would be appreciated, if you need any further information please let me know.
ThanksSeniorInternet,
I’ve seen this issue in the past and it occurred because the file was corrupted.
It’s possible that something went wrong when downloading it originally on your newly upgraded machine.
Try downloading
KB2693643 again from another machine and install it.
Hope this helps!

Adobe Creative Cloud Not Loading Correctly Windows 7 Pro Sp1
When I open CC, the below screenshot is what I get:
System specs are as follows:
Processors: 8
Video Card: Nvidia Quadro 2000D
All Adobe products are trusted within Kaspersky. Kaspersky logs indicate that Adobe CC is not being blocked in any way. Adobe CC works on my other computers, one of which is virtually identicle to this one.
This is the third computer I've installed CC on, but I don't see how it can be a licensing issue, as I can't even sign in to Adobe CC on this one (I do realize one of the other two computers will need its permissions recinded for CC to be useable on this third one) and CC is therefore unable to determine if it has permission to run on this computer.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue could be? I would really like to get it working on this machine.I've still no luck getting this to run on my machine. I've unistalled, reinstalled, use the cleaner, updated my flash players, installed Air, deactivated my other two machines . . . nothing is working.
This has become incredibly frustrating. The results are the same as with the screenshot in the above post.
