Windows 7 to Networked LaserJet 2300 (running XP)

I purhased a new laptop running Windows 7.  I have an HP LaserJet 2300 running on another computer with Windows XP as the operating system using a USB connection.  In addition, there is another laptop running Vista and another desktop running XP.  All 4 computers are networked thru a Linksys router/switch.  The Vista and XP computers can access the LaserJet 2300 thru the network.  However, the Windows 7 machine is a problem.
If I hook up the LaserJet 2300 directly to the Windows 7 machine, it finds a driver and works.  However, when I try to add the LaserJet 2300 as a networked printer, I get a message that says the driver can not be found.  I can get as far as seeing the LaserJet 2300 in the "shared printer window", but when I click next, I get the message that it can not locate the driver.
I have downloaded the HP generic driver on the Windows 7 machine.  And when I "browse" to that file, and try to match the required *.inf file, I get the message that it cannot be found.
Does anyone have a work around?

Hi bilibestimt,
How about if you try to hook the LJ2300 up to the Win 7 machine locally via USB (at this point I am suspecting you are using the inbox Microsoft LJ2300 driver) and verify that it works with the installed plug and play print driver...
Then print a config page from the LJ2300 for the IP address, and go back to the Windows 7 PC and go into the "Devices and Printers" folder, and then right click on the LJ2300 installed USB driver and go to "Properties", and then go to the "Ports Tab", and  click on "Add Port"
-choose standard TCP IP port
-Click on New Port
-Type in the LJ2300 printer's IP address
-Click Next and follow the prompts.
-This should allow the USB installed print driver to print over a network port.

  • Networked Laserjet 5MP and Windows 8

Is there any way to print to a networked Laserjet 5MP (networked via an ethernet connection) using Windows 8?  I have Windows 8 Pro and work exclusively on the desktop side of the OS.
When I run the HP Printer Install Wizard, it discovers my printer, but informs me there are no drivers for it.  Is there any workaround for this?  My 5MP is still working like a champ, so I'd rather not have to purchase a new one just because there are no drivers for it on Windows 8.

I'm running Windows 8.1 (rather than Windows 8), and this has a built-in driver available for HP LaserJet 5MP, so i suspoect that Windows 8 will also have a built-in driver.
You may need to click the Windows Update button in the Add Printer dialogue (and then wait, perhaps several minutes, until the drivers are downloaded, and the list is repopulated) before the driver becomes available.

The only drivers available for the Laserjet 2300 and windows 7 operating system are a Universal Print Driver (UPD) and the drivers available with the windows 7 operating system. Please refer to the document below for help on how to install the drivers that come with the windows 7 operating system.
Install a driver included in the windows 7 OS
If you prefer to use the Universal Print Driver (UPD), that driver is downloadable at the product home page or from the UPD site: www.hp.com/go/upd

When I try to download iTunes 10.5, I keep getting the message "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected." Therefore I can't update my iTunes to the new version. How can I solve this? I don't want to pay for technical support as this seems to be a problem with the iTunes package Apple is providing itself by that message.

    Hello, hartadrian.
I would recommend attempting to repair the Apple Software Update via the steps below.  Once processed attempt to download, update or install iTunes 11.

  • Windows and mac networking

First of all let me Introduce my self; I am a 23 year old entrepreneur from Bangladesh. I just moved back to Bangladesh, from the States after completing my undergrad. I am a total a newbie when is comes to computer networking and such. Now let’s get into business:
    Description of Hardware:
10 clone PCs running Windows XP Professional
    1 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.5
    1 Netgear Ethernet HUB
    1 Netgear Wireless Router (WGR614v9)
    2 USB printers
    Current Setup:
10 PCs are all in a workgroup , connected via a Netgear Ethernet HUB, with static IPs. Where two of the PCs connected to 2 separate USB printers. and all the PC in the workgroup can print using those 2 printers.
The Mac is NOT connected to the workgroup, it’s only connected to the Internet using the wireless router (Netgear).
What I am trying to do:
I am trying join this workgroup wirelessly, so that I can share files and print through the workgroup.
So if I could get some help on how to set up this network so that my Mac and the PCs can work smoothly, without any hitch.
I have asked for help form my network tech guy, but he dosen’t have any idea on how to configure the workgroup so that its Mac friendly or configure the Mac to that it plays nice with the PCs

System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> WINS
    Fill in your workgroup informaiton.
Your default NetBIOS name is the name you specified in System Preferences -> Sharing. You can change/set your NetBIOS name along with setting your workgroup info, or you can change it in the sharing preferences.
I am ASSUMING that the Netgear WGR614v9 IS the router being used by the PCs and the Mac. That is to say, you have just 1 subnet and everyone is on the same subnet. I'm guessing that the Netgear using a subnet along the lines of 192.168.1.* (or 192.168.2.*, or something similar). Just make sure your Mac is in the same subnet.
If you actually have a different router being used for the PCs then you need to tell the one that is NOT connected to the internet that it is a Bridge device. Some home routers have a bridge option, and others you have to turn off DHCP and NAT services to turn it into a Bridge.
Also if you want your Mac to offer CIFS/SMB services you need to enable this in System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing -> Options.

  • How to terminate Windows dial-up Network session

Need help terminating a Windows dial-up network session from my Java application demo. The application runs on an unattended PC and periodically initiates a Dial-Up networking session, in order to send an email.
I'm binding a Process variable to the output from...
    <runtime>.exec("rundll rnaui.dll,RnaDial <DU name>")
The Windows dial-up session starts OK and the mail message is successfully sent. However, when I try to terminate the dial-up session using...
    <process>.destroy()
...it does not terminate the Windows dial-up session.

You can use the JDUN API (Java Dial-up Networking) that can be found at http://www.JavaAPIs.com. It supports enumerating RAS dial-up entry names, dialing entries, and hanging up entries.

HP Laserjet 1022nw running with Win7 64 computer printing multiple copies - won't stop until you shut off.  It resumes printing when you turn the 1022nw  back on
    Have renistalled Driver
It worked fine with Vista and XP

    Hello @Astronav,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the issue of  multiple pages continuously printing from your Windows 7 computer to your HP LaserJet 1022nw Printer. However, in order for me to provide you with accurate support I do need to know how your printer is connected to your Windows 7 computer.
Normally the continuous printing issues are caused by your router. When you send the print command to your printer from your computer than the print command goes from your computer to your router and finally to the printer. If there is a conflict with your router it may constantly send the signal to the printer to 'print' a job. Or, if the printed text is garbled information and weird symbols that your printer is printing it could be commands from the router to your computer that are improperly being sent to your printer and resulting in a page of weird symbols printing.
Therefore, it is very important for me to know how your printer is connected to your computer as that will guide us in the what direction we need to be troubleshooting.
Once I find out how your printer is connected to your computer I will be able to provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to resolve this continuous print issue. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • Y500 + windows 10 = no network at all.

As the title says, I've got a Y500 that I recently upgraded to Windows 10. only problem is, it has absolutely -NO- network at all! I've stumbled upon this post here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-no-network-connections-or-wifi/td-p/2130264/page/6 that shows Sonicwall's Global VPN may be the cause, so I removed WIndows 10, in Windows 8.1, I removed the VPN client, went back to Windows 10 and still had the same issue.  Anyone else have this problem? This laptop should run 10 without any problems according to their supported systems list....

  • Slow Accessing Files Across a Windows 2003 Server Network

I posted this quite some time ago in the Os X Forum:
    Hi,
We get the spinning ball when we access files across a Windows 2003 network with our Os 10.3.9 Macs.
It seems that the more files there are in the folder, the longer you see the ball, our Fonts folder can sometimes take up to 2 minutes before you can scroll to the bottom of the folder.
This happens after a computer restart or a program restart.
Does anyone know of a fix for this issue, as it is quite annoying?
Also note: This does not happen when accessing the same files through Os9 classic, even though the machines are running 10.3.9.
The network is all new cat 5 cables and this a relatively new Dell Power Connect 3324 switch connected to a very fast Dell Poweredge 2600 server.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

  • LaserJet 2300 Problem

Recently, I had to reinstall the software and drivers for an old LaserJet 2300 b&w printer we have networked in the office. Although it took awhile, everything is now working just fine.
However, every time any of the staff go to print something, they always get a blank sheet of paper at the end of their newly printed document. I've looked through preferences, etc., but can't find any way to turn it off. I've also tried the set up utility on the printer itself. No luck.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I need to change?

To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.
    I hope this helps!

  • When I try to install iTunes 10.5, it says, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."  I have Windows XP and I need help.

5, it says, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."  I have Windows XP and I need help.

After reading all these posts, one by one did not resolve my problem until I got the very end.  Regardless of what step would resolve your problem, these are the steps I would recomment to everyone for a what seems to be a safe and fool-proof upgrade to iTunes 10.5.
    1. Stand alone upgrade to the latest Quicktime version
    2. Go to control panel and "change" then select repair to the following applications in the order specified by the post on Oct 27. (Notice I skipped Quicktime because it had been upgrade manually, and Bonjour did not have a "repair" option)
iTunes; Apple Software Update: Mobile Device Support; Apple Applications Support
Some of these applications may not appear if they do not apply to your configuration (no iPhone, or no iPad, or other apple devices).
Once all updated, I did not need to restart nor launch any applications, I simply went straight into the 10.5 upgrade, and where it normally got stuck, this time the installation continued for a while longer until it completed successfully.
Great work everyone who contributed!  Thank you very much!

  • Can no longer connect to Windows XP Home Network

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and just noticed I can not longer connect to my Windows XP Home Network. Besides sharing files I also print through that network, but it's not just the printer that's afftected. In "Finder" I see the Home>Office Folder but I can't connect to it. I deleted the printer and tried to re-add it but I get a message saying that the server my not exist or is unavailable.
It's been a long time since I set this all up so I don't even know where to look and/or begin.
    TIA

There is a problem with connecting to a shared printer on Windows XP from Mavericks. But you should still be able to connect to a shared folder, although my testing was with Windows XP Pro, not Home. One thing you do have to ensure is that the Windows user account has a password. You cannot connect to a shared folder on WinXP if the Windows account has no password.
