Windows 8.1 Desktop won't load.

I have a toshiba and today it froze so badly that I had to hard reset it. Now, when I log in with my pin, I press enter and the pin box where I entered my pin dissappears and my pc does nothing. If I want to press any other button, it takes 5 minutes for
it to register, and it's being extremely unresponsive for the first time ever. And when I try to sign in, the screen goes blank for a second and brings me back to my cover photo with the time and date displayed (before I can sign in). Help :/

Hi,
I have some questions, please help to clarify:
1. What did you mean the Reset, the factory restore or the Reset feature in Windows 8.1?
2. What did you mean the pin, the password of user account or the code related to OEM something?
3. Can you login to the computer after failing for some times?
We need more information to identify your issue, thanks for your cooperation.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out. If Safe Mode doesn't work for you, post back and we will explore other options.

  • Can't log in - desktop won't load

Hi, and thanks for reading this. I hope someone here can help me.
I have a G4 flat-panel iMac, running 10.2.8. Bought brand new in 2002 and have had no problems, with the exception of the hard drive going out a few months later and replaced under warranty. (Apparently a few of the dual-boot machines had this problem.) They also upgraded the OS to 10.2.8 and the computer has run beautifully ever since. Until the other night.
I was online and the modem disconnected but Internet Connect kept displaying "Disconnecting". This happens on occasion and the only way out of it is to shut down the computer and restart. So I did, and when the computer restarted I could not log in. The computer started as usual and seemed fine, the log-in screen appeared, I entered my password, the computer said "logging in", a blue screen appeared briefly... and then kicked back to the login screen. The desktop never appeared.
After several tries of that, I decided to reset my password (with the system CD). It let me reset my password and the computer recognized the fact I had changed my password. (You know how the log-in screen "shakes" to signal a wrong password - that never happened.) I tried to log in again and it said "logging in"... and returned to the log-in screen. The same thing happened when I tried the root user account.
I was able to start up from my Norton CD and changed the startup disk to 9.2. In 9.2, I can see the contents of my hard drive including my User folder in OS X and everything that had been on my desktop in OS X is right there in the "desktop" folder for my user name. I can move, copy, and delete things there. It's all there; the desktop just won't load when I start in OS X.
I don't know if it helps, but in 9.2, the computer recognizes my ZIP drive, CDs, and my Wacom tablet and mouse.
I have gone through the discussion boards and articles here and cannot find where anyone else has had the exact same problem. I have tried the possible solutions below, and none of them have changed anything:
    * Norton Utilities (Disk Doctor) - fixed some minor errors, then ran it again and no problems were found.
    * Safe Boot - I couldn't get the mouse to work, and when I figured out the keyboard "shortcuts" to log in, I got the same thing as before... "logging in" and then getting kicked back to the log-in screen.
    * Disk Utility (from the Mac OS X install CD) - it fixed a couple things then said that my hard drive appeared to be okay.
    * fsck (single-user mode) - it said that "Macintosh HD appears to be OK". So at least the hardware seems okay.
    * Rebuilding desktop - a long shot but I figured it was worth a try; nothing changed.
    * Reset privileges (single-user mode) - as far as I can see, nothing changed even after doing this.
    * Startup items (folder) - nothing seems out of place.
    * Disable log-in items - I still couldn't log in
    * In single-user mode: when trying one of the suggestions from an article here, I typed "cd/Users/{my user name}/Library, then mv Preferences Preferences_old, and received a message stating "no such file or directory."
Looking through the contents of my hard drive, I can see that there is a Desktop icon for OS 9, but not anything for OS X. In theory, shouldn't there also be a desktop icon for OS X? Has my computer somehow lost its "connection" or "map" to my OS X desktop? I ran fsck again today so that I could look at logs/parse failed/plist/etc (an article I found here on apple.com) and following those steps, I noticed there was a line that said "root device is mounted read-only." So I can only assume that has to do with the fact my OS X desktop doesn't load.
So, with all that being said (it's a lot, I know, and I hope it all makes sense) ... Is this problem something simple that I can fix myself, or do I need to take it into the shop and have a technician look at it? As you can imagine, this is all getting very frustrating, with limited access to an old version of Photoshop, SimpleText, and a very old web browser that only works on a few sites (and thankfully Apple.com is one of them). I miss my OS X.
Thanks again for reading this, and for any advice/assistance you may be able to provide.

Thanks, Anna. Excellent work. Everything seems fine, except, of course, the booting OS X part.
    First try Resetting the PRAM
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously later.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command + Option + P + R keys immediately after the startup chime.
    • Hold keys down until you hear the startup chime for the third time.
    • Release the keys and immediately and allow computer to boot.
The fact that you can boot in Safe Mode suggests that you may have a Login item that conflicts with the startup process. If resetting PRAM does not work try this:
    Boot computer in Safe Mode.
If you are able to get into the Login items (Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items) make a note of all the log in items (write it down). Then delete them all by selecting each one in turn and clicking the minus sign under the list. Shut down and try booting the computer normally. If you are able to boot successfully add the Login items on your list one by one and try rebooting each time you have added one. This should help you isolate the offending item.
I hope one of these methods works. Post back and let me know.

  • My System Preferences Desktop won't load?

When I try to change my desktop photo, it says 'loading images' and never loads. To close the app, I end up having to shut down my computer. This has been going on for months and is really getting on my nerves. People say to delete com.apple.desktop.plist but the problem is, I have looked and the file is nowhere to be seen on my computer. I would really appreciate some help because this is terribly on my nerves.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In Lion, this file is in ~/Library/Preferences, which is a hidden folder. To access to it, open a Finder windows, select the Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete the file and restart. Finally, delete "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" too

  • Cc desktop won't load

    Windows 7 64bit
I've run out of Ideas am so sick of seeing that stupid blue wheel could puke. I have shut down my firewall, run the cc clean program numerous times , hunted down and deleted files and registry entries that cc clean logged as not being able to find, blocked all adobe startup files from running  and  erased the OOBE file from both common files and user, even tried installing old version of cc desktop. .  the best I did was to get a log on screen but it loaded blue wheel! don't send me to page with 5 solutions I tried them all!

Did Chat twice for about a total of 8 hours. . . they ran my system remotely both times and even created a new user "AdobeTest" and the could not fix it . I tried having my router set up an IP Passthrough so My computer was connected to internet directly without any packet filtering or firewall. turned off my firewall and virus protection, cleaned the registry manually of all references to creative cloud, adobe and coresync and reinstalled CC Desktop could get to log on screen but after logging in just the blue wheel of death. I even changed my DNS server . . .  And I changed my password from startup screen but nothing worked!!!

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Won't load certain web pages - Happens in all browers - Won't do windows updates

This server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1) is used to host thin clients as well as RDP sessions.  One morning the office is fine, they come back from lunch and all of the sudden they can't load certain web pages, such as adobe.com
and pandora.com to name a couple.  This was roughly 3 days ago.
1.)  I have tried machines that are not connected to this server (not thin client or RDP), but are on the same network, they can load up any web page fine with no issues.
2.) On the server I have tried Opera, Chrome, IE and Firefox, all have the same exact problem.
3.) Tried different DNS servers just to be sure, even though it only effects the server and no one else.
Based on these facts I know that it is something wrong with the server, but not tied to a specific brower.  In all browsers when you load up a page in question it just sits there with a blank screen trying to load, it never generates any errors.
The Event Viewer is also clean, no errors.  So with no errors I have had trouble trying to find a starting place for this.  Things I have tried:
1.) ipconfig /flushdns to try and clear out any DNS issues
2.) Changing the DNS servers for the server to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2
3.) Scanning for Viruses and Malware/Spyware
4.) Checking proxy settings on the server
5.) Updating and then removing Adobe Flash (thought it was tied to flash at first).  Problem persists even with no flash player installed.
6.) Completed a failed update of .net, no effect
7.) Loading up browsers in debug mode to try and find anything in the site code that I could relate between failed sites.  I found nothing I could identify
Of all issues to finally be stumped on this seems like an easy one, but I can't even begin to come up with an idea at this point.
I have tried to lay out all of the facts that I know as plainly as I can.  I am hoping that someone has seen this before as this issue is effecting a number of differnt users and keeping them from doing portions of their job.
Help is most appreciated, thank you!

I was able to figure out a solution.
    CAUSE:
It appears that the Internet isn’t fully up to date and ready to use EDns -- which is enabled on Windows Server 2008 R2 by default. The solution for this is to disable Edns. Note that this isn’t
a problem for most Windows Server 2008 R2 member servers.  It’s only a problem for DNS *servers* that do recursive lookups.  i.e. likely only your domain controller will be affected if that is where your DNS Server role exists.
    SOLUTION:
To disable EDns, you can do it from the command prompt, or by editing the registry.
Create a DWORD called EnableEDNSProbes and set to 0 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DNS\Parameters
Restart the DNS Server service for it to take effect.

    Hi,
Extension Mechanisms for DNS (EDNS0 as defined in RFC 2671) allow DNS requestors to advertise the size of their UDP packets and facilitate the transfer of packets larger than
512 octets, the original DNS restriction for UDP packet size (RFC 1035).
But this would cause drop packets because of some DNS servers or hosts don’t support this. This always causes some website inaccessible.

  • Windows 8 Installation Disc Won't Load UEFI-only (T420s). Also does T420S support Secure Boot?

    Question 1:
I am unable to load the Windows 8 Installation DVD in UEFI (only) mode on my T420s. As a result, I can only run the installer in Legacy mode (or both UEFI/Legacy which effectively means the same thing). This in turn means Windows 8 is installed in Legacy BIOS mode.  Any idea how to install it in UEFI mode?
I am using a DVD burned using the Windows utility from the Windows 8 64-bit ISO and have followed the instructions in HT073269, however I am unable to get to step 1 of the Windows 8 install after updating the BIOS, resetting to defaults, and switching to UEFI-only. On boot, after switching to UEFI-only, I am presented with a bootloader and prompted to select which drive to boot (DVDRAM or SSD). Selecting either makes the screen go blank for a moment and then returns back to the same screen with no result.
Since then I have searched these forums extensively and Googled Technet, Notebook Review, and other sites to no avail. I've tried several several ideas, including using diskpart > clean to get the SSD in raw status (per HT051844). That did not make a difference. I also tried converting a Legacy-BIOS install of Windows 8 to UEFI using CharlyAR's instructions on TechNet (linked from another thread here). That seemed to get me to a Windows Boot Loader but still errored out and Windows Repair was unable to fix it.
    Any suggestions?
Also, question 2:  Does anyone know if the T420S support secure boot? If not, any idea if it's slated for a future firmware update?

Secure Boot is a certificate-based approach to preventing rootkits, not the same thing as UEFI. Although Secure Boot requires UEFI, having UEFI does not mean having the additional Secure Boot feature. If Secure Boot is available, typically there will be an option to enable it in the firmware configuration. Since the latest firmware for the T420S (ver. 1.35) does not have such an option, I suspect ThorsHammer is correct that Secure Boot is not (yet) supported on the T420S. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Lenovo will tell us that a firmware update is on its way though.
My understanding is that it will never support secure boot.  The secure boot support starts at Ivy Bridge and the T430s.

  • Desktop won't load properly

My laptop keeps failing to load the desktop after logging in. It goes to the login page fine but as soon as I do and the desktop opens it keeps attempting to open it every 2 seconds continuously non stop. It's blinking
I can't click anything on screen but the mouse is moving fine. Keyboard seems fine as I can open CTRL Alt Delete Screen.
Opening task bar is fine but the blinking is still happening but I can click things on these menus just not on task bar or any of the shortcuts.
I can also shut down normally if I go through the CAD screen.
I have Norton so I would hope it's not a virus.

  • Safari 3 Beta Won't Load in Windows

Tried downloading Safari on my Windows computer...won't load everything in the browser including tool bars. Can't even type addresses in to go to websites. Tried restarting my system, everything. I heard it wasn't that great for Windows, but I didn't think it would be this bad. I enjoy it on my Mac...hope there's a bug fix soon.

5.1 is buggy, and the Apple Support Software also has to be uninstalled - and downgraded.
Better off with 5.0.x for now.
There are a dozen threads+ about 5.1s issues.
You can also expect some extensions and plug-ins could also be trouble.
And manually clean out every sub folder in AppData with Safari (prefs, history, web, etc) when moving to a new version. Same with Firefox 5/6/etc
I'd make sure to use CCleaner 3.09 and make sure that cleans Safari.

  • Page won't load in Safari

    Hello,
I'm trying to open a page (http://drjeder.com) in the newest Safari under WINDOWS and the page won't load. All I see is a blank screen and a loading message (Other browsers can open it with no problem).
I then installed Safari (for Windows) on a different computer and it worked only for the first time, but after that it again wouldn't load. What causes this issue and how can it be resolved?
    Thanks in advance.

I am getting the same problem on Safari 4 (but it works fine on the Mac), so any help anyone can provide that would be useful.
The page I am having a problem with is http://www.iwebvisor.com/assets.aspx (but you need to have navigate to it through the site starting at http://www.iwebvisor.com/start.aspx)
During testing we never had an issue with this it has just occured when we pushed this out for go live.
Something else I have found is I can not replicate the error when I am running Fiddler2 (http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/) to monitor the HTTP traffic, and there are no errors in the IIS log on the webserver. Its driving me insane.
