Windows 8.1 Problems

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased Windows 8.1 and I've been having so many problems, I'm not sure what to do. I get constant blue screens with various messages. I've reinstalled windows 8.1 about 5 times already trying to fix problems. I've run chkdsk and it came up
clean. I've also run the windows memory diagnostic tool and that came up clean. I've run antivirus scans multiple times and those have come up clean. I've used avast for the virus scans, but I thought avast could have been the problem, so I removed it and
also scanned using windows defender. It still comes up clean. I've ran sfc /scannow and the first time, I received the error message that it couldn't perform the requested operation. I did the dism command and then my comp restarted. I did sfc scan again
and it came up that no problems found. I installed 2 windows updates 1 for windows defender updates (KB2267602) and the other Cumulative Security Update for IE 11 (KB2976627). After those were installed I ran sfc again and that came up could not perform
requested operation. I did the dism command again and the result was component store is repairable, the operation completed successfully. I run the sfc scan again and I get the same error again: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested
operation. I'm running out of ideas and I have nothing install on my computer since I just did a clean install. I only have my wireless adapter for the internet along with my keyboard and mouse.
I also just ran dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup and that actually completed to 100%, but I'm sure the sfc scan will once again come back with the same error. Can anyone help me out?

Hi! Ok so I originally had vista 32 bit & bought windows 8.1. I have a 64bit processor, so I decided to do a clean install & wipe my drive. After I installed windows 8.1 I'd get random blue screens ranging from the bad pool error to system exception. No
real explanation, but random blue screens frequently. I was told by a comp tech to run the dism command. The only thing I recently did after this installation was create a restore point because it's the first time sfc came back at 100% with no errors. I haven't
taken an image of any system to put it on my comp I only used the windows 64bit cd from Microsoft. I'm really confused by all this and frustrated because I have no idea what the problem is. I even tried to refresh my PC via windows recovery & it said there
was an error, so nothing was changed. A few minutes ago I just reset my PC & that's still going currently.

  • Windows file permissions problems

We have an Xserve G5 that was running Server 10.3. I upgraded it directly to Server 10.5. Since then, I am having problems with some of our Windows users.
When they create a new folder, it puts them as the owner, but gives them NO rights. I am using ACLs to give full rights to the group that needs access, and also setting the POSIX group rights to read/write. So once they leave that folder, they can no longer get back in. I have SMB set to inherit rights from the parent, and the ACL is set to inherit as well. Other people in the group can access the folder, just not the owner! I change the owner permissions and all is well (for that folder at least). How do I need to set SMB so it follows the inheritance I set?
Once I have the folder set correctly, any new files created there have the POSIX group set to read only. The ACL inherits properly and still has full control. The owner is set correctly, usually. It is not consistent.
Once someone creates a file in any folder, if a Windows user modifies a file someone else created, it changes the owner name and gives them no rights. It also creates a new ACL record. If the original owner was a Mac user, it creates a new explicit ACL with all rights except execute and delete. If the file has ACL records already, it duplicates them and gives whatever rights it feels like (it seems). One new record may say Allow Delete only, and the next one say Allow Read except for execute. The only thing for certain is it will never match the original ACL. It always adds the new ACLs at the top of the list, and the duplicates are grayed out as if they were actually inherited that way. The most 'popular' file I've found so far had 128 "inherited" ACL records!
It is also denying access to some folders that the user has the correct permissions for. For instance, I can create/modify/delete files logged in on the Mac side, but when I log in on Windows, I have problems accessing files/folders. It shows everything as read only. Even if I change the properties in Windows, it will revert back to read-only when I apply the change.
We have a new Xserve that we will be moving the file services to. At that time, all the Windows users will be moved completely to the Mac side - currently the Windows users are accessing the Xserve and a Novell server.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Thy,
Based on my research, the Trusted Installer is a service, for those resources which only allow Trusted Installer to modify, neither Administrator nor System can modify them.
I am wondering that how secure the network and physical environment is that you need to create a GPO to prevent users making permissions changes on system files. These system files normally only can be modified by Administrators,
System or Trusted Installer, which is secure enough when we don’t add users we don’t trust enough to Administrators group.
    >What is the best way to undo this while leaving the audit failures turned on and still retaining the correct permissions on all the files?
As long as administrators on these machines are qualified, you can remove the Group Policy. If not, please don’t make any user you don’t trust as Administrator.
    >What happens to the files that aren't owned trustedinstalled than now have the trustedinstaller default permissions under system32 and syswow64 if I were to remove the gpo?  What file  permissions would be retained?
We should keep the default permissions, if those files weren’t owned by Trusted Installer before, we should change the original owner back, vice versa.

  • ISight - connects with windows users no problem?

I'd like to buy this webcam, but I heard it has problems connecting with windows users. Will I be able to talk to people on it through AIM? Thats what I'd like, if not, I probably wont get it. Anyone have any personal experience or have any answers or helpful tips - I'd appreciate anything - thanks.

It is not the iSight itself that gives you the impression that connecting with Micros~1 Windows users causes problems ... it is the availability of (cross platform) applications that makes connecting a bit more cumbersome.
I have PowerMac G5 with iSight and I connect with my Micros~1 Windows platform family equiped with and without USB webcam.
The challenge will be to find messaging / VoiP applications with bearable audio quality and reasonable video performance.
I started with Skype for Voice and Yahoo! messenger for bad video ( 1-2 fps and video size 320 x 240).
Skype has a video plugin (only for Windows)
Yahoo! Messenger does not have voice yet (2.5.3)
MSN is badmouthing because of the "M"
I have used iChat with another Apple believer ... and the quality of Voice and Video is unparralled.
The best two alternatives I found are:
    a) AIM 5.9
    b) Trillian (www.trillian.cc)
Both use a free AIM screen name.
AIM works fine, see also EZJim pages.
TrillianPro 3.1 reuses AIM screen names ... and ... it has both good audio and zoom-to-full-screen-video size with fps rates filling your bandwidth.
The only negative on Trillian so far, the "handshake" for connecting two people takes some time.
TrillianBase is free but has no Video capabilities. The Pro version is 25$.

ps. if you want to test your setup use my AIM screenname: coenjeukens

  • Mat****a UJ-8315: Error message - windows found a problem

I'm trying to copy a film to a dvd/cd and the windows always display the message: windows found a problem.....what might be wrong ?

    Hi
Usually its not possible to copy the original DVD movies with the simply burning application because of the copy protection.
Did you get also this same error message if you will copy simple files on the CD or DVD? If not so I assume the medias are copy protected and therefore its not possible to burn the medias.
The second possibility is that you use not compatible medias. Usually in the user manual of your notebook you will find a list of tested and supported medias which should work properly.

I bought a scanner Fujitsu (model sv600) in which is delivered a CD of installation of Acrobat 11 for Windows. The problem is that I possess an iMac. How can it be done?

This page ScanSnap SV600 : Fujitsu Global shows that Acrobat is for Windows, not for Mac. There is no trade-up option so far as I know. Indeed, Acrobat Standard does not exist for Mac at all, only Acrobat Pro. Which you could buy.
Or, you can invest in Parallels Desktop which will allow you to run Windows apps on your Mac.

  • Windows 2000 boot problem

I have just moved my system to the new MX-6585 board - Did an Windows 2000 "upgrade" to initiate total hardware scan.
System works ok, when it has booted, but booting is sooo slow.
Found a Microsoft article describing the problem:
    SYMPTOMS
After you choose to start Windows from the Boot menu, you may experience a long delay (or pause) before your computer finishes starting. Note that this delay may range from 10 seconds to a minute. Also, this delay occurs before the Starting Windows progress bar appears, and your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) during this time.
    CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows is installed on a drive or a partition to which Windows cannot gain access with normal Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) INT-13 or INT-13 extension calls. When Windows Setup determines it cannot use BIOS calls to start, it uses scsi() or signature() syntax in the Boot.ini file instead of multi() syntax.
My question is: Does MX-6585/BIOS in any way hinder the INT-13 calls to my Adaptec 2940???

Thanks! I sent the following message:
There are no IDE devices in my system, only SCSI. My hd is an IBM Ultrastar 36XP DRHS-36D. When I start the system up, the SCSI & MSI BIOS screens display normally, then BOOT.INI appears. After I select one of my NT-type OS's (NT4, W2K, WXP), there is a 30-second delay between the time I press the Enter key at the BOOT.INI screen and the time the OS actually starts to boot. (The BOOT.INI countdown time is limited to 5 seconds. I am *not* talking about this time.)
Since the same hardware was transferred from another installation (with a non-MSI mb) in which the same Adaptec drivers were used but this 30-second delay did not occur, the delay appears to be due to the MSI BIOS. Interestingly, W98 is also installed on this hd and it appears in the BOOT.INI list. When I start up W98, the 30-second delay does not occur -- as soon as I press the Enter key, W98 starts to boot.
Other end users have complained about this same boot delay. See the post "Windows 2000 boot problem" found in the MSI user forum here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=6970&boardid=10&page=1
I'd estimate our chances of success at 1%. Still, it's far better to complain and not be heard than never complain. That way, we get to complain even more.

  • Bootcamp and windows 8(partition problem)

I am trying to install windows 8 and until now with no sucess. The instalation by the bootcamp runs smoothly, but when I boot from the USB, start the instalation process on windows and it asks me what partition I want to install the windows, I try to choose the Partition 4: BOOTCAMP and it doesn't work. It says it's a problem because the partition is EFI and for installing windows it can't be or something like that
And if I don't press the Alt button, when the bootcamp finishes the instalation and reboot the mac, it goes to a black screen where said that I don't have any boot devices connected and to connect one and press a key.

I believe you are supposed to format the partition labeled BOOTCAMP to NTFS from the installer. It is stated in the BootCamp suport guide.

  • Windows 8 installation problem using bootcamp!

Hi guys, I would really appreciate some help with this, I think I might of made a big mistake.
Ok so I bought windows 8 yesterday to run on my iMac through bootcamp.
I went through the instllation process and came to downloading the drivers (windows support software) but here is where I think i went wrong, when i was asked to burn the windows support software to a cd or save it on to an external drive I chose the option of saving onto a drive but I actually just ended up saving the software on to the main hard drive for my iMac.
I continued to install windows 8 but after installation as expected I'm having problems with the keyboard, mouse, Internet etc without any support software. I went to 'my computer' and the local hard drive only shows the part of drive of the that was particitianed for windows and can't seem to find any way of accessing the mac os x side of the hard drive. I cant even transfer to the mac os x from windows to figure out the problem from there.
Could any one please help with this?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
After using Boot Camp, your computer will start always in Windows. To start in OS X, just hold the X key while your Mac is starting. If you want to start always in OS X, after starting in OS X, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select the OS X partition.
By default, Windows can't read the filesystem that OS X uses for the partition, so that's why you can't access to the OS X partition. Also, you should have burnt the drivers onto a DVD or a USB drive.
As you have already downloaded the drivers, after starting in OS X, copy them to a USB drive or burn them into a DVD. Then, start in Windows and install them. Note that Windows 8 requires Boot Camp 5 drivers, that you can only get from Boot Camp Assistant if you are running OS X 10.8.3. If you want to be sure that you install the correct drivers, I recommend you to download again the Boot Camp 5 drivers from the Apple webpage > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638

  • Windows 7 Bootcamp problem?

    Hello people,
Let me start from the beginning. I have been trying to make a bootcamp partition on my iMac mid 2007 to run windows 7 on. This has been a very bumpy road so far and now I'm stuck at a bump. So far, this is what all I have done:
    1. Use bootcamp support to create a bootcamp partition.
    2. Install windows 7 from disk.
This is where it gets bumpy. At the completing installation portion of this, my screen goes black, and doesn't return. Easy enough, its probably a driver problem. So I
    3. Restart and boot to CD into repair my computer.
    4. Go to command prompt, and issue the command DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ATIKMDAG.SYS
    5. Restart. Says "Preparing computer for first time use."
Good from here right? WRONG. New error message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Press OK to restart and restart installation. After some searching, turns out a quick registry fix can solve this problem.
    6. Press shift+f10 to open CMD. issue command regedit.
    7. Go to the setup part of the registry (HKeyLocalMachine/System/Setup/Status/ChildCompletion) change the value from 3 to 1.
    8. Restart. Setup continues, finishes, boots into Windows 7 and 800x600 resolution.
    9. I go to screen resolution, and change it to max, and it works. Everything is great almost.
Now, remember that atikmdag.sys file I had to delete to get the setup to reappear instead of that black screen? Well turns out, with that file gone, my computer now reads my graphics driver as corrupt or as having a problem, preventing many games and applications from booting up without giving a graphics card error. THIS is where I am stuck now. If atikmdag.sys is a vital file to the driver for the graphics card, how can I keep it where it is, but still boot up without a black screen? Reinstalling my video driver or reinstalling the bootcamp drivers cause the black screen or blue screen of death, so I have to delete that .sys file again to boot correctly. But without this .sys file, it seems my computer will always throw the corrupt/problem error at me?
Let me say, I have tried to download the catalyst drivers and use the atikmdag.sy_ file from there and issue the command "expand.exe atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys" to make a new sys file for it, and this works and it boots with the file, but device management then throws the error that all of the packages arent signed correctly and refuses to boot the driver at all. Any help?
    Cheers, Adam

easy enough, just confirm that you have no other usb devices connected to your mac
where is your current w7 disk from? we're going to make a new one unless you tell me its a retail disk
dl a fresh w7 iso from below and google bootable iso disk on osx for steps
    http://techverse.net/download-windows-7-iso-x86-x64-microsofts-official-servers/
open boot camp assistant and if you have an option to delete/remove windows, do that
open disk utility and confirm that you only have 1 partition ('mac hd' unless you've renamed it), if not you need to get back to 1 partition
