Windows cannot see Ipod #5482

I have read through all of the previous posts on the subject. I have noticed my situation is similar to some on the board here. My Ipod is recognized by windows when it is first plugged into the computer. After the Ipod updates it disappears from windows and becomes locked (read only). All the while it is seen in iTunes but read only. When I first loaded the music on the iPod it worked great but next day it did this. I have been able to look at the iPod properties while it is available in windows and it says formatted in FAT32.
I wonder why Apple doesn't make a statement that they are aware of this, given the large number of people with this problem, and is working on a fix? Is it possible that the newest updater fried our iPods?? I wonder if a class-action lawsuit would help them respond quicker?

... do you mean that the ipod is only visible in "My Computer" while it itunes is saying that it is updating, and when you have your ipod selected in the itunes sourcelist, the songs are "greyed out"?
if so, while the ipod is plugged in and showing up in your itunes sourcelist go "edit > preferences" and click on the "ipod" tab. if you have one of the two "automatic" updating settings selected and you have "enable disk use" unchecked then what you are seeing is normal.

  • ITunes cannot see iPod

OK, so iTunes somehow was able to hook up with the shuffle and pulled all my purchased songs off it. I am now on a different computer. I canot access the iPod itself though to place new songs on it. iTunes cannot see it. I am worried that the USB port sees it as a memory storage device instead of iPod. Any thoughts?

  • Windows cannot recognize iPOD mini

I just bought a new iPOD mini (pink 4Gb), but when I conected the iPOD to my laptop and other desktop, the computer always shows 'cannot recognize the usb device, the divice might be malfunction', so iPOD shown as unknown device in my usb controller, when double click that, shows no driver suitable. I tryied all methods I can find from the website and none can resolve the problem, then I request repair service twice, but still didn't resolve the problem. When conected to computer, baterry shows charging normally, it seems the cable is right, and my computer meet all reqiures. Is anybody meet such questions? Could anyone give me kind help?

Yes, I tried 5Rs, different USBs, different computers, all doesn't work. I saw from one article about the format, then I check mine find the last item in 'setting-about' is 'model', not 'format: windows', so I thought might be because this, I download MacDrive, xPlay, they still doesn't work, then I tried MAC computer, after connected, it didn't show on the desktop, but I check the repair service results, all says found no problem.

  • Need to restore ipod, but cannot see ipod in Itunes:

Can I use Disk Utility on my Mac to restore my ipod. My ipod shows up on my harddrive but doesn't appear in Itunes. I cannot access any commands to set it back to factory defaults.
Maybe Disk Utility or a terminal command will work?
The disk is formated at a Fat32, but I don't have access to a PC anymore.

You can use Disk Utility to either repair the disk on the iPod or erase it and format it. Then restore it in iTunes.

  • Cannot see iPod in iTunes any longer.

Here is our version of iPod: U2 version: serial number JQ446QG0S2X Model: M9787LL
    I am using iTunes 7.7.1 (11)
Our computer is a Powerbook G4
    Version OSX 10.4.11 (Panther - I think)
When we plug it in, the icon does not come up in the Devices/Library area any more.
We are not sure why this occurred. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows cannot see the DVD/CD-RW Drive

The computer has recently stop recognizing the DVD/CD-RW drive! Current machine setup is a Lenovo 3000 J115 7387-A32 model running Windows XP Pro. I've gone into system setup and the DVD shows up as IDE drive 0. Drive has power, and I replaced the system cable connecting it the MB. Note, I replaced the DVD with another unit and set up the system to boot from the DVD, and nothing happens! Has anyone come accross this problem.

Delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters as per this guide. Hope it helps.

  • ITunes incredibly slow to load, cannot see any devices...

    Hello,
iTunes is incredibly slow - takes 2 minutes+ to load. When it does load, it cannot see iPod touch, iPad 3 or iPhone 5. It could yesterday.
    Updated iTunes.
Totally removed all iTunes and associated programs, and reinstalled.
Checked Apple USB drivers, all functioning.
    Deleted preferences file.
    Ran on Windows safe mode.
Ran 3 different malware scans in Safe Mode.
    Unistalled Quicktime.
Ran on basic boot under MSIconfig.
    Please help!
    Windows 7, i5, 6gb ram.

Yes, that's a good point. On my MBP, everything works just fine, so it's not an internet connectivity issue. Both machines are running the same anti-virus/firewall software with the same settings. The MBP is wireless via Time Capsule, whereas the iMac is hardwired to TC. The only difference is the entire library is on the iMac and AppleTV pulls from it for both audio & photos.
But these are all "library" issues, which are unaffected. It's only the "store" and the rendering of the pages within it. I tried the parental settings trick to disable iTunes Store & iTunes U - sped right up on display. But as soon as I changed settings so I could actually access content? Slowed right down...
    Any other thoughts??
    Thanks

    Did you try this?...
here's a bit here's what microsotft says: (paraphrased)
To resolve this problem, delete the UpperFilters registry value and the LowerFilters registry value. These values may cause access problems. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the UpperFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    4. Locate and then click the LowerFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10 318}
    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    6. Exit Registry Editor.
    7. Restart the computer.
it worked perfectly for me!make sure to follow the directions. it's easy and resolves many Windows XP problems related to ipods. for more info try microsoft help and support and just serch for ipod. it list a bit more info there. it doesn't say anything about reinstalling the apple software, but just to be thorough i unistalled itunes and quicktime before anything just to start with a clean slate, then reinstalled them from my ipod disk after the restart. then i downloaded all the updates from apple. my ipod has never worked better. good luck. theres no link to the page just search for ipod in windows help and support for exact wording

    Hey there MattSK123,
Thank you for your question. It sounds like you are unable to see either of your devices in the sidebar of iTunes after a recent update. A number of issues could cause this type of behaviour, and would recommend starting with the troubleshooting from the article named:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
If the issue is not resolved, I would next re install iTunes from either of the following articles depending on the version of Windows you have:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    Or

  • HT1329 I cannot see my iPod in My Computer to transfer my iTunes on to

I am trying to move my iTunes to a new laptop.  I have followed the instructions in the article above and all was going well until I try to copy the iTunes folder on to my iPod to transfer it.
I cannot see my iPod in 'My Computer'!  Any ideas?

    Try this:
    Plug in your iPod,
    1. Right click My Computer >> Manage and select Device Manager in the left tab.
    2. Click Portable Devices >> right click Apple iPod >> Uninstall
    3. Unplug and plug your iPod, now wait for windows to re recognize your ipod [ In Device Manager, you will see the new recognized Apple Ipod ]
    4. Press F5 to refresh your windows explorer and see if your Apple iPod will show up with a camera icon.
    Otherwise, refer to these articles:

  • New computer, old computer crashed, I cannot see my music folder on my ipod

My old computer crashed, so I could not deauthorize it with itunes. I read instructions about moving my music folder off my ipod to my C drive on the new computer's music folder, but I cannot see any music folder when I go to "My Computer" and look at my ipod. Any thoughts?

    1. Open My Computer
    2. Click Tools
    3. Click Folder Options...
    4. Click the View tab
    5. Under Hidden Files and Folders, select Show Hidden Files and Folders
    6. Click OK
I'm pretty sure that these directions are useless because all of the music on your iPod is protected. In order to copy it to your computer, you will need software that does it for you. You cannot just drag it all in.
I see that you are using Windows Vista... I'm not sure whether that will change whether you can copy your music or if it will change my directions on how to show the music folder.
