Windows installer sets VersionNT property to 603

Hello,
OS: Windows 10 Technical Preview
I've got msi package, which has LaunchConditions based on VersionNT(64) property, but installer sets this property to 603 (corresponding to Win8.1\2012r2). I wrote custom action, where I call VerifyVersionInfo function, and on 9879 build it worked,
but starting from 9926 It doesn't. It seems that VerifyVersionInfo now requires proper GUID in manifest file, that is not possible for binary custom action. What is the proper way to detect Windows 10 version in msi package?
I tried to ask this question at Windows Insider Program, but i was suggested to ask it here.
Thank you.

Hello,
1. Windows 10 has not been official released that there is not a solid version for us to detect, and currently issues related to windows 10 are not supported, you could consider submitting this feedback with the

  • Windows 10 MSI Installer sets VersionNT/VersionNT64 to 603. Should be 1000.

Running 'SystemInfo' on Win 10 build 9926 shows OS Version 10.0.9926.  This means that VersionNT should be 1000  (major*100 + minor).  Instead VersionNT is being set to 603.  Is this something that Microsoft will fix soon?
Any good, simple ways to get around this while waiting for the fix?  (The variable VersionNT is Read-only.)

From Windows 10 SDK header files it looks like the value would be 604. Looks like Windows 10 is lying about version as 603. Not sure when it will get fixed though.  Writing CustomAction and using GetVersionEx is worth trying, provided it returns correct
    value :), which i haven't tried myself.

Yes, I had found a similar solution also.  I'm running XP Pro, SP3.  I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair.  Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess.  Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes.  Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing.  I haven't begun to work on that.

  • How to use property Upgrade Code in detection method "Windows Installer"?

    Hi
I am a packaging specialists helping our deployment guys to add our software (100rds of installers) as application entries in SCCM 2012. The methods supplied by SCCM seem however quite generic and limited.
The detection method "Windows Installer" is hardcoded to use the Product Code, why?
Normal detection of Windows Installer packages are done using the Upgrade Code and the Product Version. Is it possible for us our self to add/reconfigure to use that method or are we forced to use the custom detection method?(both those methods should be provided
by SCCM to better match Windows Installer architecture)
Ps. It says in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632336.aspx for Version that "This
must be in the standard Windows Installer four-part version number format.", but the version number is 255.255.65535 (which is real stupid) as described by http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370859(v=vs.85).aspx. Ds.
    Regards
    Pär

Under LV 7.1 with DSC installed I get the same error code (-2147418113) but "explain error" gives me this.
"LabVIEW DSC:  (Hex 0x8000FFFF) Catastrophic failure."
This prompts the question is it possible to set an activeX object running in a container for Full Screen.
This is probably a Q for MS.
If it look like it is possible, try to get a VB example and that will tell us what we have to do to make this work.

  • Query: Windows Registry setting to preventing installation of sponsored product apps (McAfee, etc.)

To Adobe Support and Others who might know this answer.
What is the Windows Registry Setting a admin could set on a system in order to prevent Adobe products such as Flash, from installing sponsored product applications from installing?
In this case it is  McAfee Security Scan Plus.  However, I also desire to prevent other sponsored apps in the future from being installed during an Adobe product update.  This is a PIA for an admin to follow up on removing an an application from  field systems after was was intended to be an Adobe spcifc product update.
Oracle's JAVA already have a method to disable spnsored installs.  I would like to see the same from Adobe,
Yes I already know to tell people to disable checkboxes for addtional products.
Yes I already know about the direct product dowload links for Flash, etc.

I'm unaware of any such registry mod.

Have there been any reports of a faulty installer with Premier in the Boxed set? Photoshop installed so seamlessly it's odd that this is popping up.
    Thanks in advance!!

Eitehr your Windows installer is damaged or you run without sufficient user privileges. Run Windows Update to repair the installer and make sure to run as admin. also turn off any security stuff temporarily.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG...CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?
      Windows XP

Depends what you want your installer to do.
Wix has a tough learning curve, it's kind of weird and obscure.
There are blogs and stuff out there and an email list.
Yep, you read that right an old school email list you post to and get responses like the 90s.
I've used Wix a bit, but it's been forever since I started from scratch.
I take it you did what it says here:
    http://wixtoolset.org/documentation/manual/v3/votive/authoring_first_votive_project.html
and then just put that line in.
    <File Source="$(var.MyApplication.TargetPath)" />
If you follow the steps here:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/105638/A-quick-introduction-Create-an-MSI-installer-with
    Does that work any better?
Literally, all that will do is install the exe though.
You need more for any dependencies.
Installshield is easier but more limited.
Maybe those limitations aren't going to be significant to you, maybe they are.
    Support is available.
Configuration is clicky stuff rather than obscure and rather confusing xml.
Then there is Visual Studio 2013 installer project.
This is very like the old one they used to have in the box with visual studio.
    https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/9abe329c-9bba-44a1-be59-0fbf6151054d
If you used to use the old one then I would look at that first.
File copy install is another option for desktop apps.
Give them the .net4.5 framework msi and a bat file plus zip which whacks everything into a folder.
    Crude but simple.
    Hope that helps.

I have no idea what this is, or how to fix it.
    Dell   Windows XP

okay, this looks to be the key piece of information:
    Windows ® Installer. V 3.01.4000.1823
that suggests you've got Windows Installer 3.1v1 (or 3.0) on your PC at the moment. try upgrading to Windows Installer 3.1v2. see:
    Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
does an itunes install go through properly with a 3.1v2 in place?

  • Unable to install itunes 10.5 after update issue. "windows installer package error"

So when the update for itunes happened, it wiped my ipod, and then my ipod would not work with itunes. So I uninstalled itunes and tried to reinstall it and it gives me that error message. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have tried all the fixes from deleting everything to running command prompts. I think i tried everything.
Method 1: Right click on the setup file and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator'
Method 2: Open command prompt in elevated mode and, then unregistered and re-register Windows Installer.
    1. In the Start search box and then type 'cmd', when the command application appears at the top of the start window, right click on it and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator' and type each of these commands in the command prompt and press Enter
       • msiexec /unregister
       • msiexec /regserver
msiexec.exe belongs to the Windows Installer Component and is used to install new programs that use Windows Installer package files (MSI)

    1.       Choose Start > Computer
    2.       In Computer, open the "C:" drive.
    3.       Open the Users folder.
    4.       Double-click the folder titled with your username.

    7.       Click the View tab.
    8.       Select the option to "Show hidden files and folders." (In Windows 7 this option will be called "Show hidden files, folders, and drives").
    9.       Click OK.
    10.    Double-click the AppData folder to open it. If Windows needs your permission to continue click Continue.
    11.    Double-click the Local folder to open it.
    12.    Right-click on the Temp folder and choose Delete.
    13.    In the confirmation dialog that appears click Yes.
    14.    If you are unable to delete the Temp folder, close all programs, especially those in the Notification area ("System Tray") of the Windows Task bar and repeat step 12.
    15.    Restart your computer.
    Method 5: Removing iTunes
Note: iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes.
    1.       Quit iTunes.
    2.       From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    3.       In Control Panel, click Uninstall a program. The Programs and Features Control Panel opens.
Alternately, in Classic Panel of Control Panel, click Programs and Features.
    4.       Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs, then click Uninstall.
    5.       When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, click Yes.
    6.       After the uninstallation is complete, do not restart your computer if you are prompted to.
    7.       If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Programs and Features remove those as well.
    8.       In Programs and Features, also remove any iPod Updater applications that are listed in the same fashion as you removed iTunes.
Method 6: You may also try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and run that to remove the leftover ITunes installer files that may be causing issues with your current installation.
You may refer the following article to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

I was able to install quick time just fine. All of the other apple software associated with itunes installed fine but itunes did not. Im not sure if there is a virus that could do this. I didnt delete anything but apple folders.
I have tried other things but i cant remember exactly there were.
When the install process for itunes is running it changes with the error message shows up during install.
    Thanks.

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.
