Windows is not recognizing the ipod

I plugged my Ipod into a friends computer to charge. After which the Ipod gave me the "Do not Disconnect" sign for about an hour. Now, when I plug the ipod back into my computer it does not recognize the Ipod. I have a feeling that it needs to be restored but that cannot happen until the Ipod is recognized as there by the computer. I've tried setting it to disk mode, with no result.
My friend has a video ipod with the latest update software (if that matters) and we are both running Windows XP.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Windows XP stops recognizing the iPod Nano

    hi
I bought my Nano in Dec 2006. Assuming it is 2nd generation. Not sure how to verify. Until now I was able to copy files from Real Player to my Nano.
Now the Nano battery charges when I connect the USB cable to the Windows XP Pro system but Real and iTunes is not able to "see" my Nano I have an unhappy child at my place
What should I do? If I have to reinstall, what should I reinstall and how can I reinstall anything when the PC doesn't see the Nano device at all?
I tried connecting the Nano to my friend's system with his working cable, still his PC also doesn't "see" my Nano.
The Nano operates normally (i.e. we can listen to the songs)
    Any pointers is appreciated.

  • Windows XP not recognizing the iphone still camera

I have been using successfully iphone (2G) with itunes and photoshop. For last 1 week when i updated the itunes to 8 and iphone to 2.0.2, windows does not recognize the digital still camera. Hence photoshop and picassa can't detect iphone and i can't sync photos from iphone to photoshop and vice versa.
It is working perfectly fine on other PCs. I know that there is something wrong with my windows or iphone drives but can't figure out what.
Itunes is able to detect the iphone and can sync seamlessly. Can anyone help whats going wrong.

    One thing that might help.
When the iphone is connected to the computer, click on start.
Then right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
In the computer management window, click device manager on the left hand side.
The to right, look to see if there are any items with exclimation marks or red x.
If one is the iphone or under imaging devices, try reloading the driver or delete is.
If you delete it, disconnect the iphone and reconnect.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows 8 not recognizing my ipod

I got a new computer in December and since then, I have been unable to get the computer to recognize my iPod. It's an older model. White with click wheel, 30GB.  I can't reset it using iTunes because the computer won't even recognize it. It's not even charging when connected to the computer.  I've gone through the 5 steps, but the problem isn't with any of those. The iPod works, iTunes works. Windows 8 is the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.

  • New Laptop with Windows 7 not recognizing my iPod

I have iTunes loaded (I used a USB transfer) and now I'm trying to charge/update my iPod, but when I connect it to the laptop nothing happens. I've rebooted. I've put the iPod in disk mode. I've tried all three USB ports on the laptop. Nothing. The cable works because when I plug it in with the iPod to a regular outlet, it starts charging. My previous computer had Windows XP. I've been searching online for about an hour without any solutions to this problem. I have the lastes iTunes update loaded (9.0.2.25)

Problem Solved! Posting in case someone else has same issue. It was so easy once I found the right solution. I uninstalled all the USB controllers, then rebooted the computer. When it came back up, it reinstalled all the USB controllers. When it was done, I plugged in the iPod and TADA...it began to sync, iTunes came up, and my iPod was recognized. Hallelujah!

  • PC Not Recognizing the iPod's USB device

I installed a new copy of Windows recently, and now when I connect my iPod to any USB port (doesn't seem to matter which) my PC will often not recognize it. It takes me to take the iPod out and put it back in for it to know that it's there. I believe this is why my iPod refuses to update its song list properly. It will put 15 songs on it and then stop. If I disconnect and reconnect it, it will just put the same songs on it and stop again. I recently took my iPod in to an Apple store to have it looked at because I couldn't even restore it because it seemed like it was corrupted. Now I believe it really never was. It's like I need to have a driver for the USB port device and the software disk that came with the iPod doesn't contain one. But I honestly don't know. What do I do?

Sorry. I gave you misinformation. My PC runs windows 98 SE. I downloaded the drivers and the firmware
from the Creative web site. Installed the drivers. I inserted the built -in USB Connector of MUVO TX USB flash dri've while pressing the player button. I executed the firmware and the animated flash light turned on but after 2 minutes, the response was no removable dri've is detected. I will make several more attempts before I give up.

  • ITunes & Windows XP not recognizing my iPod

I have a 3rd Gen. click wheel iPod and have been using it without problems until today. I recently got a 2nd Gen. shuffle and loaded songs onto it with no problems either. I just tried to update my iPod and iTunes and Windows XP won't recognize my iPod. It charges though. I tried restarting my computer, updating iTunes, changing USB ports, and reseting my iPod. My shuffle works fine and my computer and iTunes recognize it. Is there anything I have to do so my computer and iTunes recognize my iPod since I recently used my shuffle?

  • Computer not recognizing the ipod.

I have plugged my ipod into 4 different usb ports and nothing will happen.

Why don't you try this, use a USB drive to copy over
your iPod updater to another computer and then just
connect to that computer and see if it's recognized,
if that dosent work try connecting it using firewire
    if you can
I am having the same problem. i only have one computer and my connection worket just fine until now. i can hear that my usb connects to the compurer by that click sound, but it wont recognize.is that possible that i disabled something on my computer so the removable devices option wont pop up when i connect?

  • Windows 8 not connecting to IPod touch

I have 4G IPod Touch I bought several years ago.  My PC died so now I have new Windows 8. I was able to get my songs and apps on ITunes, but when I hit sync it’s not recognizing the IPod.  I can’t get my songs back on my Touch.

    See:

  • My computer is not recognizing my IPod...how can I help this?  I have an IPod Classic from 2006, I think.

I have connected my IPod via the USB port, and even my computer is not recognizing the IPod.  How can I help this?  I have just downloaded an audiobook and now I'd like to downloading it to my IPod.

Uninstall iTunes and all of its components by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, then reinstall iTunes.  This will not trouch your iTunes library or data.

  • Windows but not iTunes is recognizing the iPod

My friend has a 20 GB iPod (Gen. 4) and whenever he connects it to his Toshiba Satellite (running Windows XP and purchased in Taiwan) the computer pops up with a window asking if he wants to have the device open in Real Player, Windows Media Player, or Do Nothing.
The iPod says Do Not Disconnect for a while and then that disappears and it goes to the main menu showing no signs of being connected. During this time, iTunes does not detect the iPod at all.
I then opened My Computer and the drive is listed there (the icon was actually an image of a generic mp3 player for a while and now it is a regular removable drive).
I open that drive and there are no folders listed at all (this is after the iPod has gone back to its main menu) and I can't access the music folders even when I say to show hidden folders and files. I tried everything in Apple's help files online before coming here.
The odd thing is that I have an iPod mini, have had no problems connecting with my Dell Inspiron 9300 and for the **** of it I connected his iPod to my computer and it worked perfectly.
The iPod was quickly recognized by my iTunes and I could see all the music on his iPod. I have the same version of iTunes and iPod updater as him too.
This leads me to believe that the problem is with either iTunes on his Toshiba, the Toshiba itself, or his Chinese Language version of Windows XP. Please help!!!

Not to encroach on Mike's territory but both of these programs have device control in their Options settings, particularly Windows Media Player. It's likely that both are set to open automatically when any MP3 player is connected to the computer. You might be able to disable the function there.
