Wireless Filed

Hi!
i want to begin in the Wireless Filed;from where should i start?any usefull Link to help me!!!

You should probably look at the CWNA first. It gives you a good "big picture" of the wireless field (or filed). You can get the study guides for the test to use as a reference.

  • How I got my L7780 Direct Digital Filing to work on MacBook Leopard 10.5.6

My situation was that I had miraculously been able to get Direct Digital Filing working once, but couldn't remember the exact steps I made to get it to work. I then had to clean reinstall my MacBook. And even when I put the exact path name that I had used originally in the web server for the printer (EWS?) and had set the network settings the same way I had originally. I was unable to get DDF to work.
I was able to set up the L7780 wirelessly. I was able to print and scan from my MacBook wirelessly. BUT I couldn't get Direct Digital Filing to work.
Neither Technical Support nor internet forums helped me entirely. I just took good tips here and there and finally got it all working together. Had a nightmare of a time figuring it. I called HP Tech Support and they told me I had setup everything on the L7780 correctly...only it just wouldn't working. Tech Support didn't offer to send me a new printer, but only suggested that I could do without Direct Digital Filing???
    What I did...
Uninstall everything, the HP software from laptop. Making sure that all traces of the printer, or its drivers were off computer. Reset Network settings to default on printer. Reset factory defaults under Tools Menu on printer. Reset my wireless router.
    1. I turned the router on
    2. I turned the printer on (at this point, it is not connected to the network at all, either ethernet wire, or wireless, it has no IP address)
    3. I turned my MacBook on
    4. Connected my MacBook to L7780
    5. Installed the Printer software that I downloaded from HP website on MacBook. (Installed L7780 as USB)
    6. Tested the printing, and the scanning from my MacBook to make sure it works.
    7. Downloaded the Software Update from Apple that always comes up to update the HP driver after installation.
    Then for Direct Digital Filing,
    8. From the L7780 I selected the Setup Wireless Network Wizard or something like that. After that, the printer was connected to my network, and had an IP address.
    9. (Unable to get DDF working on my MacBook, I made a last ditch effort to see if it worked on my Windows Vista Laptop that had worked before as well) I turned on my Windows Vista Laptop, opened up Command, and pinged the IP of the printer. It worked.
    10. I created a folder and configured it to share for the printer. After configuring it. It will tell you the Address that you use to type into the Direct Digital Filing speed dial path to the folder. I did that. I tried DDF to the Windows Vista folder and it worked on my Vista laptop. Encouraged...
    11. I then tried it on my MacBook. I got into Terminal. I pinged the IP of the L7780. Strangely, I got an endless ping result list, it wouldn't stop. You have to press CTRL+C to stop it.
    12. Then I created a folder in root directory of my MacBook Hard Drive. "Scan." Went into Systems Preferences. Went into the Sharing Tab. Clicked the + sign to add a shared folder. Selected the new "Scan" folder. Made sure the Option was for SMB sharing (Must type in user ID & password). Made sure "File Sharing" was selected.
    Voila it finally worked!!!!
    NOTE:
In the EWS? (web embedded print server by typing in the IP of the printer in your web browser)the Path is as follows: \\HARDDISK\Scan
type in user name & password
leave PIN blank, or erase it if there is anything there
(If you have it in your Documents folder, it would look something like this... \\HARDDISK\Users\Username\Documents\Scan ..... However, becareful in the EWS if your path name is too long, you can't type in the entire path .... ALSO the original time that it was working (I don't know how)... I had my path as \\192.168.1.5\Username\Documents\Scan .... For some reason I was able to use my IP address of my MacBook, and then skip to my User name without the "Users" path before it .... However, since I reinstalled my MacBook, that address no longer worked for some reason.)
    NOTE:
Either After I got it working on my Windows Vista Laptop, or after pinging the printer from my MacBook. I noticed a strange change in my Networks in the System Preferences. There was a new Location ncamed "hp nct temp set" instead of the original "Automatic" location that was there before. On the left, all "Airport" icons, "Connected" & full signals, instead of a variety of icons, Bluetooth, Airport, Ethernet, etc that the original Automatic location had. Either way, it seems to be making the Direct Digital Filing working, so I won't ask why. Further details in "Advanced" showed nothing different other than under "Airport" "Preferred Networks:" there was an additional Network Name "hpsetup" other than my home Wireless network. All other settings seem to be the same.
    SUMMARY:
(Like I said, I'm not sure if Direct Digital Filing started working on my Macbook running Leopard because I got it to work on my Windows computer first, or because I used Terminal to ping the printer.)
    but...
    1. Setup L7780 wirelessly by making sure your Wireless network is working, and then turning on the printer, and then select "Wireless Setup Wizard" under Network on printer. It will give you a list of wireless networks from which you choose yours, and then type in the security password. After that is complete and it says your printer is now connected to the network, select display wireless network settings to make sure the L7780 has an IP address.
    2. On your Mac, open up Terminal and ping the IP of L7780. CTRL+C to stop it from pinging if it doesn't stop automatically
    3. Create and share folders on your Mac (making sure it's SMB with user id and password, and that the path to the folder isn't too long)
    3. Then setup Direct Digital Filing speed dials in the EWS by typing in the printer IP address in your web browser and going on the "Settings" tab.
    4. Test it from the L7780 by pushing the Direct Digital Filing button under Scan!
I wrote this out for all those people that must be having a hard time with this as I had myself, and not getting any help from the internet or from Technical Support. I hope I figured it out for most of us.

I found this post and the HP instructions for setting up digital filing to be extremely frustrating, because nothing worked -- UNTIL I tried shutting down my Mac and rebooting after entering the settings (a simple restart would probably have done as well). Digital Filing then immediately worked like a charm. For the benefit of others like me who find abstract paths useless, here is the specific path setting that works on my Mac (you will of course have to use a different path on your Mac, but this will give you a real-world example of a path that works) -- this is on an HP Officejet Pro L7780:
    \\BillCheesemanG5\cheeseb\Public
    In abstract terms, this is:
\\<computer name from Sharing pane of System Preferences>\<short user name>\<folder named Public in my user domain, which comes already set up for sharing when you install Mac OS X>.
    I hope this helps somebody.

  • Question re: multiple wireless devices and the Duel Band Airport Extreme

I recently purchased the new duel-band Airport Extreme. Prior to that I had the single band Airport Extreme. I’m a bit confused about how it works and have spent a good bit of time trying to find the answers on the web, but nothing really addresses my specific question so I’m coming to the experts.
I have a number of wireless devices throughout my house… a couple of Roku boxes, two iPads, two iPods running Pandora, a MacBook and an older model Apple TV etc.
Both of the iPods are 802.11 G. The iPads can handle N.
One Roku is 802.11 G and the other can handle N.
I am confused about configuring the Airport Extreme. It’s my understanding that if I just go with the basic setup of creating a network and selecting Automatic for the Radio Mode and Channel that all of my devices will automatically connect to the most appropriate band for the best throughput for that particular device.
I have tried configuring the Airport Extreme as I mentioned above, as well as setting it up with the 5GHz Network Name field selected. I gave this a different name so I would be able to distinguish between the two networks when selecting one on my iPad. I will refer to the fist configuration as Setup A and the second (naming the 5 GHZ Network ) as Setup B.
When I use Setup A all of my devices show one available network to connect to. I select that network and all is well.
When I use Setup B the devices show two available networks, the original and the one I named on the 5GHz Network Name Filed.
My iPod’s ( 802.11 G ) only display the name of the first network, but my iPad’s show both, and I can select either. The signal strength on the 5GHz channel only dislplays two bars on the signal strength indicator icon, but the other network is full bars.
When I use Setup A, is my iPad, Roku and MacBook automatically selecting the 5GHz AND the N connection? How do I know that it’s not using the G band? Is it best to just go with the automatic settings and trust that I’m getting the best connections? How does it know weather to connect to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. What determines that ?
Sorry for the rambling questions but the more I think about it the more confused I get about all of the possible combinations of connectivity possibilities.
I appreciate any attempts at making this a “teachable moment” for me :- )
    Thanks !
    Chuck

    Welcome to the discussion area!
The signal strength on the 5GHz channel only dislplays two bars on the signal strength indicator icon, but the other network is full bars.
Not surprising, because the much higher frequency 5 GHz signals are absorbed much more quickly by any obstructions than 2.4 GHz signals. Everything is a trade off. In return for higher speeds, you must give up distance capability and penetration power with 5 GHz. It's not exactly true that you have to have a line-of-sight arrangement between the router and computer with 5 GHz, but many users are finding that to be the case for good, reliable performance.
How does it know weather to connect to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. What determines that ?
The signal strength. If your computer is capable of connecting at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, it will choose the band with the higher signal strength...assuming that both bands have the same network name. The only way you can "force" a device to connect to the 5 GHz band is set it up with a different name and point your computer to that specific network.
For most users, the way to go is setup both bands with the same wireless network name and let devices connect to the strongest signal automatically.

  • I want to run down how dissatisfied I currently am with Verizon Wireless

I want to run down how dissatisfied I currently am with Verizon Wireless; this stated with the pre-order of the iPhones on Friday I like many other customers received the "ecdp" error on the web site and it took 45 minutes to actually be able to place the order.  I got the order in and had a 09/19/2014 ship date; spoke with a few Customer Service Reps in various areas such as 611, on many of the 800 numbers available, Internet Orders (including a Supervisor) and even a Social Media Service Rep all who have confirmed this ship date to be accurate.
Well today (09/17/2014) I check the Pre-Order Status page and my date has been changed to 10/14/2014 so I call in to speak to Internet Orders and the Rep advises me that yes my date was pushed back but no reason is supplied, I asked to speak to a Supervisor and was transferred to Howard, Operator # 2431235, who stated that yes the prior rep was accurate and that there was no reason available as to why my ship date changed.  Howard continues by stating that as per upper management, Apple reported to Verizon that no iPhone 6+'s would be available at launch for Verizon to ship and that this has been common knowledge, within the company, that the 6+'s were not shipping until 10/14/2014, and that prior Verizon employee's to include supervisors were misinforming me of my shipping date.  Howard continued to state that the reason I got the "ecdp" error was because of the company that I work for as Verizon offers a discount so the 'ecdp" error is not something Verizon is currently addressing.  Howard then tells me not to worry that with the 10/14 date is a guaranteed delivery date and not to worry, if the phones come in early the order will be filled, I at this point ask Howard to note my account with our conversation to include the fact that he stated the 10/14 was a guaranteed date, at this point he states that while he is telling me this he will not put it in writing as at that point Verizon would be obligated to meet that date at minimum and he was not willing to put his position on the line if the phone is not shipped by that date(this can be confirmed by reviewing the recording of the call as I was advised that I was on a recorded line).  I then asked to speak to his supervisor and was told his supervisor went home for the day and that he was the highest level supervisor on at this time.  When I then asked for his supervisors contact information to lodge a complaint he said that I would need to call back in on 611 from my handset as Customer Service handles complaints not supervisors.
I did call back and speak with a Representative on 611 who tried to assist but was not able to do much, this rep took my information and is having their supervisor call me to try addressing the way Howard handled the call however this has not occurred at the time of this writing.  I did tell this rep that I was honestly considering going to another carrier, (I have been with Verizon 7-8 years and currently have 10 lines of service on my account) I know I will not get the iPhone 6+ on launch day with another carrier which was not the driving factor but rather the way Howard dealt with the situation and the lack of respect that as a customer of Verizon I have always got from other representatives, as you know it takes one person to sour someone on a whole company, Howard even stated that if I want to go to another carrier that was fine with him.  However, the Customer Service Rep I spoke with after Howard (I wish I could remember his name) calmed me down not to leave Verizon but did agree that a complaint needed to be filed, personally I would like to file it directly with an Associate Vice President or higher but do understand that there is a “Chain of Command” that needs to be filed
Let this be a warning to anyone who call internet sale and gets Howard, operator #2431235, I would suggest you immediately request a different supervisor that will treat you with respect.  As stated above Howard will tell you that the iPhone 6+ was not and has never been available to ship on launch day due to Apple purposely not providing enough units to meet the demand and that Verizon knew this while taking our pre-orders.

I feel your pain Robert. I do believe VZW and Apple knew all along the I6 Plus would not be available on 19 Sep and that it was a way to bolster new contracts, renewed contracts and apple sales stats. It's unfortunate the company wasn't more clairvoyant, most of us would have still pre-ordered but been a little less frustrated.

  • Verizon won't let us activate a new basic phone. Just filed FCC complaint

My mom has had this Verizon plan for nearly 10 years. It's not a bargain by any means. It's $12 a month plus $0.25 a minute. Kind of a rip-off. But she likes the plan. Anyway, she recently added a $10 texting plan and talked to one of the sales managers at the store about getting a new phone (texting with a flip phone isn't practical.) He said she couldn't get a new phone with a QWERTY keyboard because she still has a year left on her contract, but recommended she get a phone elswhere, or buy one. She asked multiple times if Verizon would be able to activate the phone, and the salesman said yes multiple times. So she bought a new texting phone, an EnV3.
She called up Verizon to activate it, and they told her that the plan is no longer valid and any device switch would involve changing plans to a more expensive version. Keep in mind she's under contract after she got a new flip phone last year. What should I do? The store couldn't activate the phone either. I'll try online but not sure if it will work. I filed an FCC complaint though so maybe that will help. Otherwise, I'm getting my mom off Verizon once the contract is up. AT&T is good in our area, and even T-Mobile is. At least you get what you pay for with them.

        kgor93,
After ten years of loyalty, we want to see your mom here for another ten strong. Pending which plan she is on, a Verizon Wireless device like an EnV3 may require current pricing plans in order to make the switch. Do you happen to know the exact name of the plan she's currently on as well as the offerings? Also, which device does she currently use? We're going to do everything we can to express options to make sure she gets some proper help so she can stay on board.

  • Since iOS8 update on 2 iPhones and iPad, they no longer connect wirelessly to OSX iTunes

Prior to updating my 2 iPhone 5 and iPad2 to iOS 8, they no longer appear wirelessly in iTunes on my Mac - they used to do this, which enabled the shifting of music etc so much easier.  They do show in the sidebar as devices if connected by cable but this is a pain.
They are all backing up by WiFi.
Have I missed something or has this option been removed?
I'd be grateful for any advice.

WiFi sync does not work in iOS 8. I've filed a bug report with Apple.
My devices will show up in iTunes immediately after a device reboot, but within 24 hours, WiFi syncing is broken again and they no longer show up.

  • How to connect to Linksys Wireless Print Server (WPS54GU2) from WIndows 7

I tried the Print Server Utility that was loaded from the WPS54GU2 user install disk. Ended up with an AddPort error.
Went ahead and created local printer for printer I was trying to get to (Epson Color Stylus 400). Did a "Printer Properties" on the printer after it is was created and clicked on the "Port" tab. Clicked on the "Add Port" button and selected "Standard TCP/IP Port" from list. Clicked on "New Port" . Wizard came up and clicked "Next" on this screen. I typed in the IP address of my Print Server (with no Port Name) and let it search for a while and it eventually failed. A screen came up requesting "additional port information" so I clicked on the "Custom" button and then clicked on the"Settings" button. Here I typed in the correct port name (which in my case was like LKxxxxxx where the x's are numerics). The IP address is already filed in. I checked the LPR button and made up a Queue Name and typed it into the Queue Name text box.
After clicking OK I tried printing to the printer and everything seemed to work correctly.

    Corleone
I have the same issue as I have a new Windows 7 machine that is hardwired to my Linksys WPS54G.  This is my main office PC and I have other computers throughout the house that are connected wirelessly to the WPS54G.  I've tried to create a new port for printing based on the posts from other users but it still won't work.  I've run the Linksys configuration and my PC sees the printer server.  Am I missing a step?
    Here is what I've done
    Go to ports
    Add new port
    Standard TCP/IP Port
Click new port (Wizard comes up)
Enter printer name and IP address ( I enter my IP address for the Print Server 192.168.1.x)- Port name is same as IP Address (does this matter?)
Go to custom settings and set for LPR with Queue name of LP1 (or should it be L1?)
    LPR Byte count box checked
    Click next and finish
Do I need to restart my computer?
    What am I missing
    Thank you

  • Information about filing a formal complaint

Two years ago my wife and I left Verizon to go to AT&T because we wanted IPhones and at the time Verizon did not offer them.  The cellular reception with AT&T was awful but we had to wait out our two year contract to come back to Verizon.  Our two year contract was up at the end of October and on October 30th we were at a local Verizon store to reestablish our relationship with Verizon Wireless.  The sales rep ran our application and was unable to process it because of a fraud hold.  First of all, both my wife and I have over 700 credit scores and and we were able to provide any information to verify who we were at the time, so I was extremely shocked that words like "fraud" were even mentioned to us while trying to reestablish out account.  But after spending over 2 hours in the store with two restless babies, we were told that they would have to give us our trade in phones back but that they would call the fraud department the next day.  Both my wife and I were very concerned because we knew that we weren't committing any fraud and if someone had attempted to commit fraud using our information, we wanted to know about it ASAP.  The following day the sales rep was working on this issue the first thing that morning so we were certain that she was trying to help us get the matter resolved.  After speaking with her she stated that someone from the fraud department would be calling my wife to verify some information, which they did and my wife provided all of the requested information to prove who she was.  We were told that there was a mandatory fraud hold on our application with no reason provided; but the fraud department informed us that we would have to call back at 6:00 the next day which would have been November 1st.  To make a long story short, we ended up going to another Verizon store to complete the application and were met with the same unexplained roadblock.  We spent 2 1/2 hours at this store trying to get this issue resolved and once again left the store without new phones because of a hold placed on the account by the fraud department and were once again not given an explanation.  We were assured by the store manager that they would work on getting the matter resolved the very next day.  Since we had already paid for all of the accessories and even ported all of our contacts and emails to the new phones, we were certain that we would be able to get our new phones the next day.  This morning I called the store manager and he told me that he was on hold with the fraud department and had been on hold for over an hour and that they could still not release the phones.  I asked for the number so that we could also call to find out what was going on.  We called the fraud department and were on hold for over an hour.  Finally, a young lady came on the line and assured us that she would release the application and that it would take 2 minutes to an hour but she could not give us any information at all about why were were experiencing this issue.  At this point I am beyond upset because we have NEVER ran into any problems establishing a business relationship and if we had been I'm sure that we would be given a reason why. I would like to know who we can contact to file a formal complaint for possible discrimination and poor service.  I am going to be reaching out to others to see if they've had similar experiences with Verizon because I am certain that there is something going on that needs to be investigated.

First of all, I said that there was possible discrimination and that the
matter needs to be investigated.  If there is a policy of discrimination
within the company it could be imposed for any number of reasons.  Since
I've worked for a company and had inside knowledge of its discriminatory
practices, I know that it's not beyond the realm of possibility.
And I haven't received poor service from anyone in the local stores.
They've all seemed quite embarrassed about the fact that they had
to spend excessive time on the phone trying to get answers from their
"fraud" department to no avail. The poor service has come from the fact
that my wife and I were denied service and given no reason and the fact
that we've spent close to five hours in local stores trying to get that
service. And we were give an application number and informed that it did
not make a difference which store we went to because all of our information
was stored in the system.  We went to a different store because we were in
a different city at that time and were trying to establish service before
beginning a new billing cycle with our current provider.  The store went
to had absolutely no bearing on the "fraud" hold. If there is a valid
reason for the red flags, someone should be competent enough to tell us
what those reasons are and know how to verify who we are.
And I didn't attempt to start a relationship by filing a complaint.  I
tried starting a relationship by dragging my family into two different
Verizon stores and patiently spending five hours of my time trying to
conduct a completely mundane transaction with a company that I had
previously done business with for over 10 years.

  • Moving aol personal filing cabinet from a pc to a imac

Has anyone ever moved the personal filing cabinet on AOL from a pc to a imac? I have moved the proper file from the pc, but I can not get the file to work in the shared folder for AOL/

The Migration Assistant in new Macs will automatically transfer most files from your PC, including iTunes media.
However, you will need to make sure you have applications which can work with the files you have. For example, if you've been using Word in Windows, you'll either need to get Microsoft Office for the Mac, or use the Apple equivalents - Pages, Numbers, etc.
All routers will work just fine with Macs. If you already have wired or wireless service, you can simply connect your ethernet cable, or connect to the wireless network, and you'll be connected. Even if a router is said to "only work with PCs", that simply means that the configuration software is Windows-only. You can usually configure a router using a browser if you need to. (Many ISPs don't allow configuration of their routers anyway.)
And yes, all Macs have built-in speakers. The iMac's are pretty good. The only Macs which really need external speakers are the Mac Pro and Mac mini.

  • Is the wireless WoW Headset incompatible with a PC wired 360 Controller?

I recently purchased the World of Warcraft Wireless headset. While it's a great headset, and is pretty much what I was looking for quality wise, i've been having a problem with it that I can't seem to fix on my own.
Whenever I connect a wired PC type (USB) 360 controller to my PC, no sound comes from the speakers on the headset. If the headset is currently playing a song, or a sound, the sound will stop mid-file as well.
I checked the sound settings through the control panel, and the headset is listed as the output for all sound, however the headset is not outputting sound.
Disconnecting the controller appears to allow sound to continue playing from the headset, making me wonder if this is a driver or hardware compatibility issue i'm experiencing.
This is a problem since a few of the games I like to play are best played with the controller, and a few are pretty much unenjoyable otherwise. Any advice on getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated. I currently have a ticket filed, but haven't gotten a response back yet, so I figured i'd post here just to be safe in case someone had found a solution already.

    Jeroen222,
Is the wireless headset selected as the default audio device? I presume you have already paired the headset?

  • Where do I complain about a Verizon Wireless Store?

I recently purchased a new ipad mini with retina display, 16g,  for my family for Christmas.  I purchased the ipad at the full retail price, instead of adding a line and getting the priced reduced by $100 since I had a line to put it on.  He charged me $529.00, which is the correct price.  I got home, and noticed the ios was still ios 6 and the screen didn't seem as sharp as my iphone 5s.  I went back the next day and verified he sold me a mini with retina, and he assured me he did.
I was setting the ipad up with apps for my boys, and still didn't feel like the ipad screen was quite sharp enough or fast enough.  I did a little research and read the model number is printed on the back cover.  I compared the model on my ipad to the model numbers posted on Apple's website, and sure enough he sold me the original ipad mini at the cost of the ipad with retina, a $100 difference!!  I'm beyond irate since I told him when I bought the ipad I wanted the retina, and I went back the next day to verify it.  More than my anger, is this guy embezzling the $100 difference?  I'm going back tomorrow to return the ipad and go to a different Verizon store, but this guy is either incredibly stupid and doesn't listen, or is pocketing some money on the side.  I'm debating filing a police report.  Any suggestions?

The store employee doesn't get enriched by a $100 mistake, the company does. I always go to the Apple store.
When you buy a device the UPC code is scanned. If the item scans as a regular ipad it will show same on the receipt.
So I doubt it was intentional. You can purchase all these iPads in many retail stores. You don't need to go to verizon wireless for them. Remember unless you do a swap, there will be a restocking fee of $35
    Good Luck

  • L7650 Digital Filing via WIFI

I have a proper operating L7650 All-In-One. Printing via WIFI or ethernet cable works perfectly.
I can not get the 7650 to connect to a Windows 7 laptop for "Digital Filing" when using WIFI. Pressing the Start Scan button causes the printer to try connecting but eventually it quits with "Cannot connect to \\Inspir...\Scanned Files . Make sure the remote computer is turned on. Press OK to continue". If I plug in an ethernet cable all works well so sharing, path name, security, etc. are all ok.
How can I get Digital Filing to work over WIFI?
    Thanks!
    Ron
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I positioned my LT 6 ft. from the wireless router so signal strength would not be a problem. It's also close enough that my ethernet cable reaches easily.
Using Internet Explorer I accessed the built-in web page in my L7650. Going to Settings - Direct Digital Filing Speed-dial I filled out the appropriate entries for the Address Book and saved them to the 7650. Looking at the screen of the 7650 I can see the network path change when I make and save the changes, thus, I'm able to access the 7650 via WIFI.
I then went to the 7650 and pressed Digital Filing and Start Scan to initiate the process. The printer tries to connect but in about 15 sec. it quits with "Cannot connect to \\Inspir...\Scanned Files . Make sure the remote computer is turned on. Press OK to continue".
If I now connect the ethernet cable, disable WIFI and allow time for the LT to get on the network step 3 works properly and the document gets scanned and saved correctly.
Pulling the cable and re-enabling WIFI returns the LT to the problem stated in step 3.

    Branched from: Filing a complaint
I am having a similar issue.  I have gone into a store, dialed *611 and even posted on their FaceBook page.  Here's my story.....
Warning!! Verizon Wireless will contact you and offer you a rate reduction and then tell you that you are also eligible for an upgrade - what they don't tell you is that this offer is not an "AND" offer - its an "OR"... I've been trying to get my upgrade for 2 weeks now and am getting nothing but a run around unless I agree to have my bill go up rather than having them honor the offer that they contacted me about! First, I watched my account and online it stated that I was not eligible for my upgrade until 7/20. However, a representative from corporate customer service contacted me a week and a half earlier and said that I was already eligible. So I drove to my local store only to be told that I wasn't eligible unless I paid an extra $20 a month for the edge program. I chose to wait. I drove back to my local store today (7/20) only to be told again that I could not upgrade again because there was a pending order on my account. The pending order is the rate reduction that the representative contacted me about earlier in the month. Then I'm told I need to wait until after that goes through or they would have to cancel the rate reduction. When I asked to speak to a store manager - my request was denied (multiple times). I called *611 from inside the store and now I'm told that if I upgrade in the next 12 months, I will have to forfeit my rate reduction that I cannot have both - reminder, they contacted me to make this offer, I did not contact them! So now, I either have to accept my rate reduction and wait an additional year to upgrade my phone or I can upgrade my phone and forfeit the rate reduction. A Verizon representative made the offer, and corporate is now saying they will use this to "coach" the representative, but the only choices I have is one or the other, unless I want to find a different carrier... I have been a customer of Verizon for over 20 years and this is how they pay me back for that loyalty??!!!?? Verizon - error or not on the representative's part - you need to honor the offers that you make your customers!!! And the fact that I waited over an hour in the store ( Verizon Wireless at TriCounty, 55 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati , OH 45246) and STILL was denied access to have a conversation with the store manager is really suspect... do you even have store managers???? You have a very unhappy customer right now and I'm sure no one cares. Watch out folks - even if this company contacts you with an offer, you still won't get it!!!! Yea, they'll offer a rate reduction, but that reduction will actually cost you more per month if you accept it....

This is no surprise.  Here is my story:
I was eligible for a device upgrade and took advantage by getting a NEW Droid Mini.  I had the phone for a week and i noticed that the battery would not hold a charge.  I opened a case with Verizon after one week and discussed the issue with them.  They had me do some tweaks and i told them i would try it out.  2 weeks later, i am still having the same problem..........which means the phone is DEFECTIVE.  I contacted them again immediately and they said they would send a replacement.  They sent a replacement phone and it is a REMANUFACTURED phone.  What kind of warranty is that?  3 weeks with a brand new phone i paid $500 for, and they send me a reman??!?!?!?  If you buy a printer, or a monitor or even a pc and after 1 week you determine it is DEFECTIVE, the company won't just fix it, they will send you a NEW one.  Right?  They told me that's how they roll......reman.  This is not the first episode with Verizon either.  Verizon has the absolute WORST customer service and customer relations in the business today.  Unfortunately I don't have any other carriers in my area, but as soon as i do, i will quit Verizon.  MB2508........don't worry, you're not alone.  Verizon doesn't care about any of their customers.  It's all about $ to them.  If they've got you backed into a corner, they aren't going to budge. They'll just keep squeezing.  Period.

  • My recent experience with Verizon wireless

Approximately two years ago, I decided to switch to Verizon wireless from another carrier because the company I work for has a corporate account with them and offers discounts to employees that have their personal accounts with VZW as well. I got a vanilla iPhone 4 and everything was going well until recently when I made the mistake of trying to upgrade my phone.
My first attempt to upgrade was two days ago. I entered the Independence, Ohio corporate store and wandered around a bit assuming a sales person would be around to see me soon. My main goal was to decide whether to upgrade to the HTC 8x or the Nokia Lumina 928 as I have a surface and I was interested in getting all my devices onto the same platform (Windows 8). After five minutes or so I detected a presence and I started describing the above to the salesperson who had appeared next to me. He stared at me blankly and flatly stated that he was just there to "check me in." He assured me it would only be 15 minutes or so, so I gave him my number and continued playing around with the test phones they had on display. Thirty minutes later, I was getting anxious watching what seemed like tens of employees wandering aimlessly throughout the store staring at tablets or talking with customers about seemingly unrelated topics (video games, weather etc...), I walked out with the thought that I would just upgrade online.
I went onto Verizon's website later that evening and attempted to upgrade. I got all the way to the point where I select my delivery method and selected pick up at store. I found the store I had visited earlier in the day and it said "Available for pick up in this store;" however, when I attempted to continue there was an error and it didn't allow me to complete the purpose. Seeing as many of us operate under the "I want it now" mentality, I wanted to avoid having to ship the device and thought that it should be easy enough to somehow get this transaction completed in person.
Next day I went to a different Verizon store in hopes it would be less busy. This time, I walked in and there were four guys sitting around in an empty store twiddling their thumbs with cigarettes strewn about the main desk. They asked what I had come for and I told them. They incredulously asked me why I would want a Windows 8 phone. I told them. They said they didn't have that phone because it was a "rare" phone. They then proceeded to train the "new" guy (4th guy doing nothing) on how to check inventory. When I asked them whether the Independence store had the phone they proceeded to describe to me in excruciating detail the "intricacies" underlying corporate vs self-owned branches and how they couldn't check the inventory of Independence due to it being the former. They then said I could upgrade with them and then drive thirty minutes to the nearest non-corporate store to pick up the phone. Sounds like a great solution.... right. I declined and left.
Later that day I returned to the Independence store and went through the same song and dance as before; however, this time I was determined to wait. I "checked in" with the fellow at the front and set in to wait. After about thirty minutes of watching "employees" mill around aimlessly heads-down, staring at tablets and wandering in and out of the "back room" someone called for "Tim" - my name is "Tom" - apparently the greeter had failed at his one mission of greeting customers and GETTING THEIR NAME RIGHT. I get that it's a similar enough name but at this point I was getting frustrated. I had spent upwards of 2 hours between store visits and web-form filler-outing simply trying to give Verizon more money. And it wasn't over yet...
"Tim" acknowledged the woman and she trundled over to help. I asked her whether the HTC 8x was free to upgrade to as that is the deal offered online and there is even a link online that allows you to "get this deal at your local store." She said she would have to check. After fiddling with her magic tablet for a minute or two she sorrowfully informed me that it was $99 dollars to upgrade to that phone in the store. She then ushered me to a kiosk and asked me to log into My Verizon account on there to see if the deal was available via that method. At that point she got a person involved who was presumably a "manager" who was standing in the midst of the store, arms crossed, scanning the sea of people hoping to buy phones interspersed with employees wandering around (heads down, staring at tablets, of course), and just generally looking important (or trying to). I said to him: so I can upgrade here but you can't just hand me a phone, I have to have it shipped to me? His response was: "Yup, sorry dude." Great. Fine, I say: I go through the whole process again and at checkout, the phone is 99 instead of free like I had seen at home. His response, "Oh, sorry man." Throwing up my hands, I left thinking - company discount be ****** - I was going to switch to a different provider.
By the time I had arrived at home, I had cooled off a bit and I figured I would just try the shipping thing again in order to avoid having to interact with these phone salespeople again. I went through the process, got my "free" HTC 8x upgrade - with the exception of the $30 "upgrade fee"  of course - which covers three hours of a tablet-staring, empty-eyed salesperson's salary and completed my order. (NB: I went through the process of "verifying" my device so I could have the new phone shipped to a different shipping address cf. my billing address as I am out of town on business and won't be back at my home residence for another two weeks. This alternate address is a separate house - a real address - I keep in another city). Finally, I think, done and upgraded - won't have to deal with them for another two years.
Two hours later, I get an email saying my order was shipped. That was fast, I think at first with glee! Then I check the email... they had shipped the phone to my home address... the place I won't be for two weeks. Grumbling, I picked up the phone and suffered through the pain that is the Verizon automated phone system attempting to reach another human. Finally, I reach a bubbly gal' with a thick Southern accent (nice enough actually) who apologized and said she would sent in a change order to FedEx to get my phone rerouted to my current address. Ok I said, thank you for your help - should I expect a confirmation from FedEx? Yes, she said - expect it by the morning.
Fast forward to this morning where I'm sitting in a meeting and my phone goes off - incoming call from Irvine, California - strange. I return to my meeting. Fifteen minutes later, same number calls. I excuse myself from the meeting - this must be an emergency. I pick up: HI THIS IS AN AUTOMATED CALL FROM VERIZON WIRELESS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO TAKE A SURVEY. I hang up in disgust and return to my job. After the meeting is over, I get onto my computer to check the status of my phone delivery. Yup, as expected - happily on its way to my HOME address where it will either be returned to sender or left sitting on my doorstep for two weeks.
    Great work.
    -An Unhappy Customer. (AKA "Tim")

Man that was way to long....................!
First send a certified return receipt requested letter to the address on your invoice. Dispute the $299.00 then wait for the green receipt card to come back to you. Tell them exactly why you are disputing it. Photos don't match, not the phone you sent bac and all the problems you have had with your service, if you have contact names state them in the letter.
Make copies of the letter you sent, any corrospondence you received from them, invoices, etc. dates, times of phone calls, and go to a Small Claims court and sue them for all amounts in dispute. Add in the cost of the certified letter, loss from work fir going to court, filing fees, and make sure you have all your documents ready for the judge.
Do not elect arbitration from verizon at anytime just have your case heard in court. Do not settle with verizon unless they credit you the full amount you are asking for. The loss/damage phone scam is common with verizon just do a google search on it, print them out to show the judge it is questionable that you are to blame for the damage.
Its a scam from the vendor Verizon uses to collect these devices. Damage claims have to be filed by verizon if they are paying for the return back to them.
Also sue them in a State Supreme court for cutting off your service without following the fair debt collection act. You can dispute orally, but must write to preserve your rights.
    Good Luck

  • T400 with Intel 5100 : wireless-related crashes on Linux

    Hi,
I just bought a T400 last month and installed Ubuntu Linux 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) last week. The kernel version is 2.6.27 (right now it is 2.6.27-11.27). Most parts works wonderfully for me, yet I keep getting problems with the wireless card. Last week and this week I got the computer crashing on me when I was doing wireless-related stuff (mainly to bring up the wireless interface).
    First problem (Feb 5, 2009)
I was waking the computer up from sleep (suspend) and trying to disable/enable wireless, etc.
Don't remember what I did; perhaps Fn+F5 and other keys as well. The computer suddenly hung by itself, and caps lock light blinking. I had to turn off the computer by holding the power switch.
After start, the wireless behaving strangely:
    * before "ifconfig wlan0 up", the wireless light is off
    * after "ifconfig wlan0 up", the wireless light is on
    * after "ifconfig wlan0 down", the wireless light is off -- never like this before! Wireless light is usually always on all the time unless we press the Fn+F5 key.
    * connection to my wireless ESSID network is not working.
    * But in Vista the wireless connection is fine!
    * reboot with Linux doesn't help.
I thought I was doomed for the wireless in linux. But when I used the hardware switch to turn off the wireless and turned it on again, the wireless suddenty worked again! But the wireless light behavior (turning off when I brought down the network interface) persists.
The second error (Feb 9, 2009)
I brought the computer up from sleep (suspend). The wireless switch was off at this point. With hardware wireless switch turned OFF (my mistake!), I tried to turn on the wireless interface (wlan0) using `ifup' program. When I did that, I encountered the following error:
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A):
SET filed on device wlan0 ; Resource temporarily unavailable.
    ...(DHCP program's message)
wmaster0: unknown hardware address type 801.
...(trying to get IP address, which is futile)
Before this returns to shell, I turned on the wireless switch then ^C the ifup program. This is fine, I thought.
Then I ifdown the wlan0 and tried to ifup it again. Guess what happened? The computer hung again, the caps lock blinked. And the computer became useless until I force it to shutdown by holding the power switch.
The error message in /var/log/kern.log is not that helpful; there is nothing  out of the ordinary:

Can somebody help me with this? Let me know if you want more technical information.
Since the first error I have booted back to WinVista and use the PC Doctor to see if there is something wrong with the card. But all tests returned fine. This is bizzare.

Thanks for posting your problem. So it is not an isolated issue with my laptop only. Let me ask a few questions:
    * How often does your laptop crash? Like: roughly every week, or very rarely?
    * What is the wireless card that you have? If you don't know, please type "lspci" from command prompt and post it here.
    * What is your wireless network configuration? Do you use WEP, WPA, or WPA2?
While I still don't know what the problem is, this may help narrow down the occassion (and thus, the cause) of the problem.
