A note about cancelling
From the day after you order your service, you've got 14 days to cancel without being charged for ending your contract early. But you'll still need to pay for what you use during that time.
If you want to cancel, call us on 0800 800 150 or use the online cancellation form which you can search for in the Help section at bt.com
If you decide to cancel after 14 days, but before the end of your minimum term, you'll need to give us up to 30 days' notice to leave. You'll also need to pay a charge for each month left of your minimum term because you're ending your service early. Find out more at bt.com/termcharges

  • Mail 4.1 suddenly takes another SENT Messages folder

Since a few days, another SENT Messages folder is used by Mail to store my sent e-mails. I'm using 2 Macs and one iPhone. Before, all 3 devices used the same SENT Messages folder. However, at the moment my 2 Macs use the SENT Messages ([email protected]) folder to store the sent e-mails, while my iPhone still uses the 'normal' SENT Messages folder. I have no clue why my Macs suddenly decided to use the SENT Messages ([email protected]) folder (so with an e-mailaddress behind it).
If you have any idea why this happened, please let me know. Any help will be appreciated! If you need some more information, also let me know!

I'm not sure why you have to Sent mail folders. You can report bugs here.

One more thing to try. Quit Mail if it's open.
    Locate this file. com.apple.mail.plist
Move that file to the Desktop. Launch Mail.
If it functions as it should, go to Mail/Preferences. Make note of your Mail preferences, then delete that .plist file.

  • On shut down I get a window that says Continue the installation Choose abort if you wish to cancel the installation If I don't press anything or if I press Yes or Abort the message goes away and the computer shuts down.  This has been going on for ov

I have a 27" iMac mid 2011 2.7 GHz intel core i5 with OS 10.10.1.  For about the last month when I shut down I get a window that says "Continue the installation Choose abort if you wish to cancel the installation  ABORT   YES".   If I don't press anything or if I choose ABORT or Yes the message goes away and the computer shuts down.  But the next time I use the computer and then shut down the message is back.  I have looked to see if there are any downloads pending or if there are any updates trying to download.  I am very puzzled.

  • Anyone else fed up with the 14 day Policy, I am.  Lets do something about it.

I posted this in the Motorola forums also and now that I can finally post in the Verizon forums, I’m posting it here too.
This phone (Droid Bionic) worked perfectly the first 14 days accept for one glitch where it toggled to 3G while in the same place and I called into Verizon and they said to take out the battery and SIM card and restart it and it seemed to work fine for the next few days, until the 15th day, past the return point.  I wonder, do these companies try to stall us past the 14th return policy so they can lock us into new contracts and equipment?
Now after the 14th day the phone toggles from 3-4G all the time no matter where I am and disconnects me from the internet with I get an email notification.  I call Verizon on the 16th day and they give me the canned rhetoric about the 14 day policy and that they will send me a replacement BUT can’t guarantee that it will be new, more likely it will be refurbished. WHAT THE ****.  I just paid for a NEW phone not a used one and within 30 days they want to send me a used one…NO WAY IN HELL is that acceptable.  The car lemon laws are better…you get a new one.
Well guess what, they tell me that THEY and Motorola are the ones that made these policies…SO, I’m here to ask everyone else that is also fed up with this **bleep** to lobby, boycott, raise hell if you have to, to get these **bleep** policies changed to at least 30 days, like any other product we buy in the USA.
It’s real interesting that the phone worked fine for 14 days and then it went to crap.  If I want 3G I have the HTC Imagio that worked fine for many years and was still working fine when I got the Droid Bionic, I don’t need a new phone to get 3G.  I think the manufacturer and Verizon are in this together, knowing that their products are built like {word filter avoidance} and won’t last past 14 days, thus the policy.
After 15 days of gripping to Verizon, they are having me purchase a new Droid Bionic (so I don’t have to get a used one) and will re-start my contract for 2 years, then when I send the crap droid back to them they will credit my account…this is doable, ONLY IF the new phone works. But it is a {word filter avoidance} hassle.  We are the consumer buying YOUR product, we should be treated better.
According to Verizon, Motorola is coming out with a patch or software upgrade…sometime in Nov. that is supposed to FIX this **bleep** service.
Well Motorola, if it doesn’t, I’ll be under a new 14 day return policy until the last day of Nov. and if the “Fix” doesn’t work, I’m taking this worthless piece of crap back to Verizon and I’m going back to my 3G HTC.
You Manufactures need to get it right, OUT OF THE BOX, not have the consumer pay for the product, give them only 14 days and then have them locked into a 2 year contact then you fix the problems.  That’s BULL**bleep**.  And I hope others will join me in lobbying,, call your local TV news channel, boycotting and if we have to, raise hell with all these companies, like you, Verizon and all the other phone service and phone making companies to change the 14 day return policy like Srpint and AT&T...as the Verizon rep stated about thier 14 day policy.
If you don’t change your policies, when and IF I buy another product from Verizon, if it glitches even the slightest, instead of calling in for help and getting the stall tactic rhetoric of restarting this and pulling out that to make it work right to stall me past the 14 days, I’ll send the **bleep** thing back 50 times if that what it takes to get a product that works so I don’t get locked into the purchase or the contact if I can’t get something that works.
I am furious and I’m not going to stop raising hell until you and companies like you start taking better care of consumers like me that spend their money on YOUR products.
If this next phone I get doesn’t work I’m going back to my HTC 3G.  And I’m not done with you people.  I’m going to do whatever it takes though legal means to see to it that you and companies like you change your **bleep** policies and stall tactics to keep us locked into products that are crap.
And another note to add: In talking with some of the reps at Verizon, when I ask that an email be sent to me to verify the conversation and I get: “Well we can’t do that”, you are lying.  I did have one of your reps send me an email.  The fact that you won’t tells me that you are trying to keep our conversation off the record so it won’t come back and bit you in the behind later.  Your big company with all its technology can’t send an email…{word filter avoidance}.  Its not going to stop me from waging legal war on you for the crap you put us through.
This was my 2nd post on the Moto forum:
I have spoken with someone at Motorola and they invited me to send in my phone to them and then 5-7 business days after they receive it they would send it back fixed or replace it.  However, they would not send me a loaner phone and referred me back to Verizon for that…NOT going to happen.
We the people made these companies successful and pay them good money for their products; they need to treat us better when it is THERE product that doesn’t work properly.
I also addressed the update issue with the person from Moto, they couldn’t tell me what issues it will address or when it would be released, only that it’s going to happen sometime in Nov.
That is why I say this: If it doesn’t work right out of the box and there is 1, even 1 minimal hick up, I’m sending it back 50 times if I have to within the 14 days and I’ll keep doing it until I get one that works or finally get fed up with crappy equipment and go back to my 3G HTC and to hell with Verizon’s contract and Moto’s equipment.
Also I have learned talking with the person at Moto that it is ONLY Verizon that has set the 14 day policy and has nothing to do with Moto.  Another bit of incorrect info I got from Verizon, and I quote: “We have to abide by the manufactures policies they set and we cannot change the 14 day policy…OK so who’s lying here, Verizon or Moto?
Doesn’t really matter, we the people need to take action and put a stop to this outrageous **bleep**.  How?  By sending these **bleep** things back the minute they don’t work, within the 14 days unless they change it to longer, like at least 30 days and don't let them stall us with their **bleep** over the phone.
And two, if we do have a glitch that we have to call in about because the product doesn’t work, the time clock starts over but our contract count down time does not if we have to have it replaced with a NEW product or decide we are fed up with the crappy product and want to cancel it all together and go back to what we had, within the 30 day period AFTER the last glitch we called in about.  If we can get them to change it to 30 instead of 14.
That will keep them and the manufactures of these products on their toes and stop selling us crap that they later have to fix.  It should work out of the box and if it doesn’t 30 days down the road, there should be no issue in replacing it with a NEW product (NOT a refurbished one) and the countdown times starts again.
If any of you know some powerful political people, you need to ask them to start writing some new laws about this stuff unless these company’s police their own first and take care of these issues, but because they are making gobs of money off us, I doubt they will, so we have to force the issue and MAKE them do it though laws.
    To add:
I'm not done with you Verizon.  If this next Bionic doens't work and the update in Nov. does not fix it I'm sending it back and going back to my original HTC and canceling the NEW 2 year contract.  Your CELL server is by far the best, the equipment is not.  And I will not and should not be held to a 2 year contact if you cannot provide me with a product that works.
You really need to change your policies on your own before we the people make it a law.  Take the initiative and make it right.
You want to be the best company out there, then don't follow Sprint or AT&T, be your own company and don't tell us on the phone that "All companies are doing that"...are you as lame as all the other companies out there or can you stand on your own and be the best?

    Update:
The “CS supervisor” at Verizon still cannot arrange for me to take back $100 of worthless accessories if I send the 3G Bionic back…
So, as the last poster stated, I did cancel my other two lines with Verizon and went to AT&T (I’ll save $400 per year) and canceled my Hot Spot (a saving of $360 per year); A loss to Verizon of $1,236 per year, so I will recoup my expenditures if I send the current 2nd 3G Bionic phone back.  I get 4 bars with AT&T and only 2 with Verizon at my location...hum...imagine that.
I may just be a little cog in the big wheel but if enough of us did this, and we should, it would get their high and might attention that we customers are not going to let them Lie to us or as the CS super said, “miscommunicate” pertinent information that effects our buying/spending decision and drags us out past the 14 day limit.
The final word on any update is that there isn’t one anyone can talk about or knows about, but it seems that all the techs at Verizon have the same problem with their droids; they activate the Airplane mode, then deactivate it and the 4G will come back.  That’s all dandy unless when you get disconnected from the internet it closes out important things you were in the process of doing…isn’t that special.  Very lame Verizon, very lame.
I’ve done a lot of research on Version’s Androids and it appears that ALL of them since they’ve been out have this same problem with the flipping from 4 to 3G and other connectivity issues…so it’s not a MOTO thing unless MOTO has built a problem product…it’s Verizon’s towers or signals etc.  No one has figured it out and neither has Verizon or we wouldn’t have these issues.
And the "jargon" I get from Verizon that MOTO is being very “secretive” about the update is laughable...the real reason I believe they say this is because there isn’t one.  Every other company out there in the tech world that knows what the problems are let people know that they are going to release an update and the issues they are working to fix…the “it’s a secret” is a sly way of putting us off because they don’t have any freakin idea what the problem is and how to fix it.
I will say that WHEN this Bionic works like it is supposed to, it is awesome.  My biggest issue with this company is there deceitfulness and not telling us the true story up front and their lame 14 day limit...but I understand why that was put in place, their equipment only works for 14 days then takes a dump.  So I doubt they will ever change it back unless they grow a pair and start selling good equipment that works out of the box.
They should be very up front about these issues BEFORE the customer signs on to a new two year service contract; miscommunications like these that have a bearing on money the customer is going to spend and contractual requirements they will be bound by…in other professional occupations, is considered a criminal offense and the sales people that commit this offense are dealt with by imprisonment and loss of licenses.
Why should Verizon be treated any differently?
So for future buyers, beware that when you sign on to a new 2 year contact and put out some bucks for this 3G Bionic, it will work sometimes but don't look to Verizon or MOTO for any solution, they don't have one.
Enjoy the phone, when it works, but expect significant problems that WILL happen regularly (flipping back and forth from 4-3G, disconnects from the internet when you get notifications or when it flips from 4 to 3G, battery not charging when you are connected to your computer, etc.), returning the phone will not fix the problem because the problem is not known to Verizon or MOTO.  The techs will tell you do disconnect the battery, the SIM Card, get a new SIM card, restart and/or do a hard factory reset.  None of this works.
And if you don’t want to get locked into another 2 year contact, understand that your 14 day count down starts the day they send the phone to you, not the day you activate it, so that means that you really only have 12 days to try it out before you return it the post mark on the fed ex return package cannot be one day past the 14th day or you will be on the hook.  And don’t forget to also return the accessories to store before the 14 day marked on the receipt about 12 inches from the top (it is not in bold so look very close at the date at the top also) if you buy them at a Verizon store.
If you replace the SIM card, as I did, don’t let some rep that isn’t paying attention to your file notes tell you that your 14 day count down is later than sooner, they (the reps) get confused or whatever they do, but they look at SIM card activation and not when the phone was sent to you or for that matter when you activated it.
I’ve been under a lot of “miscommunicated” information from the start with my first 14 day 3G bionic so although I’ve done a lot of ranting here, I hope my information helps others not get stuck or at least you will go into this with eyes VERY WIDE OPEN.
It has been 2 years since I looked into any new phone and I was not aware of all the NEW scams, trickery and deceptions Verizon has taught their reps and supervisors to use on us, but it makes sense, their equipment is so faulty they had to figure out how to keep the money coming in.
DO NOT TRUST VERIZON to be helpful, they are there ONLY to lock you into contacts and stick you with equipment that they and their manufacturer cannot and do not know how to fix.

  • When I go click on a specific "Sent" message, all the lettering on the screen fades to an opaque, an hourglass icon appears, & nothing happens.

When I open the window for all my "sent" messages and click on a specific message, nothning happens. Instead, the lettering on the list of "sent" messages fades to an opaque, and an hourglass iconn appears. When this happens, I can't even close out Thunderbird to start up again. Sometimes if I wait up to a minute or so, the message will appear. Usually, I control/alt/delete, and start all over again. This has only started happening in the past few weeks. During this same time, another problem has appeared. I use google and Youtube to watch a lot of old TV shows. Now, the Yahoo search appears, and the results include many items I don't wish to see. FYI, I use e-mail a lot, receiving and sending up to a dozen messages a day.

re'' During this same time, another problem has appeared. I use google and Youtube to watch a lot of old TV shows. Now, the Yahoo search appears,''
I presume you are refering to the Thunderbird search facility that allows you to 'Search google for', but now it says 'search Yahoo for'.
When you enter something and select 'search Yahoo for' you will see a list of icons on the left side, currently the yahoo icon is selected and at the bottom the heart icon is also red.
You can select any of those icons to change to another search engine.
select the google icon, then at the bottom on the left, look for the heart icon, it will appear white with black outline. Click on the heart icon to change it to red. This will set google as default.
Now close the search and retry, this time it should say 'Search google for'.

  • Apple Mail and Sent Messages

I have been having some issues with my iCloud email account and Mavericks. I wasn't sure if this was an iCloud issue or an issue with Apple Mail. It has to do with saving Sent messages. A couple of months ago, I had some issues with Mail. I deleted the com.apple.mail and com.apple.MailServiceAgent folders in ~Library/Containers and I deleted any plist files in Preferences. It worked for a couple months. Then, about two weeks ago, I noticed Sent emails were not be saved any where on my iMac.
So, I repeated the procedure and created Mail anew. It worked great for about a week. I always have the "save sent messages to server" option turned on. Then, one day I got some kind of message that a folder called "Sent" could not be created on the server. Looking at Mail, my Sent folder was completely gone. All of my previously saved messages in Sent were moved to the folder INBOXToDos.mbox/Sent Messages.
At first I thought iCloud itself was messed up. I logged into iCloud. There was no Sent mailbox, and there was no INBOXToDo mailbox. So, now I have no sent messages anywhere in iCloud. I sent an email from Safari in iCloud, and then, iCloud created the Sent mailbox.
Still, my Mavericks iMac will not save sent messages anywhere. I need help sorting this out and don't want to lose my previous sent messages even though they seem to be stored in some wonky folder.

Where is the Sent Messages folder listed? If it is not under MAILBOXES but in an IMAP folder, select it and go to Mailbox menu, Use this mailbox for>Sent.
It should disappear and sent messages then appear in the Sent folder.

  • Mail & Exchange - Sent Messages not appearing in Sent mailbox

Once setting up an Exchange account in Mail everything seems to be working fine except that when I send any emails they don't appear in the "Sent" folder. When I log in under webmail they do appear. Anyone else find a solution to this problem?
    Thanks for any help.
    K

I'm having my own share of problems with Mail 4.2 and Exchange Server 2007. See this post.
In addition to the Junk mail problem, I'm experiencing overall sluggishness. Mail takes longer than it should to quit, and sometimes I get the spinning pizza Loading… icon on simple text messages. I wish I could go back to re-configuring my Mail account to be POP instead of the auto discovery Exchange method.
As to the Sent mail problem, I am not experiencing that issue. I don't know if this will help, but go to your Exchange account configuration in Mail, click Mailbox Behaviors, and under Sent check "Store sent messages on the server" and for "Delete sent messages when:" choose Never.
My Sent messages all show up in my Sent folder in Mail, but they take a second. From what I can gather, these messages are sent to the Exchange Server first, and then downloaded by Mail. An unnecessary step, I feel, but I guess that's the way Exchange Servers work.

  • Mail not saving sent messages, not moving Junk messages

Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with OS Mail. I've set it up to use an IMAP account, and have set my preferences such that Mail should save all my sent messages in the Sent folder (I assume the Sent folder on my computer, not the one on my IMAP server). Regardless, neither my IMAP server's sent folder nor my computer's sent folder contain any messages that I've sent, and I have confirmed that these messages have in fact been received by the recipients (therefore successfully sent). I am unsure of how to resolve this issue, as there is no obvious setting change for me to persue. I just received this computer (new) a few days ago, so I wouldn't expect this problem to be due to disk maintenance/management, etc.
Also, I have noticed that Junk messages remain highlighted and in my inbox. I changed my prefs to have these messages be placed in my Junk Mail folder. Mail asked me whether I wanted to apply that preference to older messages marked as junk that have yet to be put in the folder; I indicated yes. Nothing happened, and the Junk Mail folder remained empty (until I manually moved the messages to it). Any ideas?
I have searched the forums for related issues and could only find problems that had an associated error message with it; my issue is different in that there are no error messages; Mail is simply ignoring my preferences. Thanks in advance,
    Vic

In OS X Mail, this sent folder appears as a subdirectory
(sub "mailbox"?) under my "Inbox" mailbox along with
other folders that are mapped on my IMAP account.
This means you haven't set up your account properly. You probably should set Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix to INBOX, or something like that.
After putting the right string in the IMAP Path Prefix field, either the IMAP folders will appear somewhere else in Mail (i.e. not as subfolders of Inbox), or your problem will have already been fixed. Let me know what happens.
I should probably mention (just realized) that in my
account settings, my outgoing SMTP server is set to
be my ISP's server (which is different from my IMAP
    provider).
I wonder if, by selecting "save messages on server"
I am saving these messages somewhere on my ISP?
Mail should still save the sent messages where you've told it to. It's Mail, not the SMTP server, that stores the sent messages. The SMTP server has no bearing on this, but it was a good idea to consider that possibility, nevertheless.
When I uncheck this option, perhaps my mail will
be stored on my local computer instead?
Yes, that's what would happen, but don't uncheck that option if you really want your sent messages to be stored on the IMAP server, or do it temporarily, so that Mail does at least save them somewhere until we fix the problem, but I believe I already know what the problem is.

  • Suddenly hundreds of "sent" messages disappeared. Folder is empty, but 'properties' says there are 679 messages. So not deleted I guess. But where are they?

The only thing I changed before this happened was the 'retention' policy in my account settings with respect to retaining/deleting messages on the server. I had that set at 'never delete' while I was away for a week, but changed it to delete after 7 days on my return today. All sent messages then disappeared on the server, and I discovered later to my surprise in my computer as well. Next to the "Sent" folder in the computer there's now a small square that's filled in darkly. I don't know if the square was there before, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't dark if it was there at all. I really need those 'sent' messages - at least the most recent ones. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Also - I could do a 'system restore', but have the feeling that won't affect my Thunderbird account at all. Is that right?

I suspect your account is an IMAP account. With IMAP all mail is managed on the server. If you delete a message in Thunderbird it is removed on the server as well, and vice versa.
So I think what happened is what's described in the article in the
'It's just doing what you told it to do' section.
    More details in this article.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_aging
If you want to avoid messages being deleted set the retention policy to 'never delete'.
I don't think I understand what 'a small square that's filled in darkly' is.
A system restore won't do you any good as the Thunderbird profile isn't covered.
Miscellaneous.msf won't help. Msf files are index files, and do not contain any messages.
Your best bet is to restore a backup of your profile.

  • Sent Messages are not saved in Sent Mailbox

It was working correctly but suddenly all my sent messages are not saved in the Sent Mailbox. I follow all the Mail Help instructions but nothing seems to work. Hope that someone can help me. I asked for help on december 14 but it was not helpful

The mailboxes drawer contains all mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (if you have Junk Mail set to automatic).
If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account, you also have an account named icon for the .Mac or IMAP type account at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer. It is named by the Account Description you provided/entered for the account under the Account Information tab for the account preferences.
If you select save Sent messages on the server for a .Mac or IMAP type account, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under the account named icon in the mailboxes drawer along with all other server stored mailboxes.
To open the account named icon for your .Mac account to reveal the server stored mailboxes including the account's Sent mailbox, select the black triangle beside your .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer pointing it down.
Select the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.
If you deselect store Sent messages on the server for the account preferences, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under Sent in the mailboxes drawer and you can't use "Use This Mailbox For" for mailboxes stored locally on the hard drive. It can only be used for .Mac or IMAP type account mailboxes that are stored on the server.

  • Mail Rules Stopped Applying to Sent Messages Since October 15th 2013.

Has anyone had a similar experience, or has anyone some idea of what could be done to return the applicability of rules to sent items?
I'm using OS X's native mail client, Mail. I'm now on Mavericks but the rules that had been working for over a year suddenly stopped working on sent items on the 15th of October 2013 before I upgraded, when I was still running Mountain Lion, so it's not Mavericks' fault.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to suggest any ideas they might have.

Thank you for the link - I had found and read that particular article while doing google research into the problem - it was only after I couldn't find a solution to (or even an explaination of) the problem that I posted this question - it's a very clear article though so I was happy to read it again.
I understand that people using Mail to handle their Gmail accounts do have all sorts of problems related, perhaps, to not having fully understood carefully researched workarounds that I remember reading and instigating for myself about 3+ years ago. As I said, this resulted in a setup that has had the flexibility to adapt itself flawlessly to my varing requirements since. Perhaps I was fortunate in this regard and I expect that, by striving to achieve my requirements by structuring mailboxes and rules to be as simple as possible, I avoided the vicissitudes that you and I have both read about.
I made no changes to my Gmail accounts, nor to Mail itself, that could have precipitated the cessation of my rules' influence on sent messages. I never use Gmail itself in fact - I only ever send and read through Mail.
I know I posted this question under the 'Mavericks' section but, as I tried to make clear, the problem was not caused by upgrading to Mavericks - it started before then. I had not tried any of the betas, nor did I knowingly install any upgrade of Mail prior to the change in behaviour (I upgrade manually).
In short, whilst I would not expect Mail to apply rules to messages sent directly with Gmail (since Mail would have to read them back in again through IMAP, successfully recognise them as 'sent' and then retrospectivly apply rules), I do expect it to be able to continue applying rules to its own sent messages.

  • Sent messages gone from Time Machine

I posted this on the Time Machine forum and they sent me here. I have several issues, one of which is Mail going offline frequently throughout the day when I have not instructed it to do so, and refusing to go on-line when I request it. I have to close the program, reopen it, and it's back on-line. A few minutes later, it's offline again. I read in the Discussions to trash the prefs and re-enter all my account info. I didn't get that far because as soon as I trashed the prefs all my Sent mails were gone. I went into Time Machine to retrieve them and they aren't there. I've tried rebuilding the Mailboxes, no go. I also dragged the prefs out of the Trash and put them back. Still nothing. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong and where my e-mails went? Thanks.

This issue sounds suspiciously similar to my recent post ... Mail 4.2 is "deleting" all of my downloaded POP Inbox and Sent messages older than 30 days and these are not available in my Time Machine either.
I was always able to access old messages well beyond 30 days (even 2 years old) but now it appears that the only things left are the headers in those mail boxes. I just noticed this this week.
Check out my post and share any thoughts ... thanks so much, Greg
