WLSE - WCS upgrade license question

Hello,
We need to upgrade our WLSE to WCS but our sales people bought the wrong license (WCS-Standard-K9) Is it possible to upgrade the WLSE to WCS with this license and just get the conversion CDs needed from you ?

Hi Gudmundur,
This will not work, plus you have probably paid more that is necessary as the Upgrade Licenses are le$$ to encourage this migration. You should,as noted by Dennis contact your SE or;

Converting Existing CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS Licenses
CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1130-19 or 1133) can be converted into a server that runs Cisco WCS. This allows customers of CiscoWorks WLSE to migrate to the Cisco Unified Wireless Network architecture using their existing CiscoWorks WLSE platform. CiscoWorks WLSE conversion SKUs are price-adjusted to make transitioning from CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS cost-effective.
Once converted, a CiscoWorks WLSE is no longer a self-contained appliance; it becomes a server that runs Cisco WCS software using RedHat Linux ES v. 4.0. The converted CiscoWorks WLSE operates as a brand new Cisco WCS installation and supports only lightweight access points and wireless LAN controllers that are running Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP). Stand-Alone (autonomous) access points are not supported by a converted CiscoWorks WLSE.
All WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 SKUs ship with two special conversion CDs. These CDs will check to make sure that a CiscoWorks WLSE is installed prior to beginning the Cisco WCS conversion process. The conversion software will not install if the CiscoWorks WLSE software check, performed by the conversion software, does not pass.
Note: Please take note of the following special considerations for CiscoWorks WLSE conversions.
CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) and CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1105) are not supported with this SKU. Do not install the CiscoWorks WLSE CDs on to the CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) appliance or CiscoWorks WLSE (Model 1105). This conversion is not supported and will not work.
A CiscoWorks WLSE that has been converted to Cisco WCS cannot be reverted back to operate as a CiscoWorks WLSE.
To find the model number of a CiscoWorks WLSE, look at the compliance label on the bottom of the chassis front bezel. Only CiscoWorks WLSE with a compliance label that says 1130-19 or 1133 can be converted to Cisco WCS.
Please see Appendix C for information about receiving support for existing SMARTnet® (hardware support) contracts for CiscoWorks WLSE.
Customers that are migrating their existing CiscoWorks WLSE to operate as a Cisco WCS server should select from the WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 SKU family and then select one of the sub-SKU options based on the following:
Base or Location
Access point quantity. (The CiscoWorks WLSE conversion CD's do not automatically provide support for a set number of access points or location services. The number of lightweight access points supported as well as Cisco WCS location is selected by the customer based on the WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 family sub-SKU. Customers can select the sub-SKU that contains the access point count and Cisco WCS option that they wish to support.)
A Cisco Ordering Tool sample for WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 is displayed in Link.
PAK Certificate, Instructions and CD
Customers that purchase the SKU family WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 will automatically receive, by U.S. mail, two special CDs containing the CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS conversion software, as well as the PAK certificate, instructions on how to register the PAK and links to Cisco WCS manuals and release notes. CiscoWorks WLSE conversion software cannot be downloaded.

  • Upgrade License Question

    Hi,
Sorry... didn't know where else to post this.
I am considering upgrading to CS5 'Producer'?  from CS4.
When I upgrade, does the license allow me to continue to use CS4 -independently-. I ask for two reasons:
    1. In case of'glitches', can I keep CS4 versions of IL, PS, Premiere, DW on the same machine as CS5?
    2. I just got a laptop that is strong enough to actually do some real work. Can I move the CS4 license to -that- machine and use CS5 on my 'real' machine concurrently? OR... is there some frictionless way to move licenses back and forth between desktop/laptop so I can work when I'm travelling?
IOW: I would never be -using- the product(s) on 2 machines at the same time... even though I'd like to keep them -installed- on 2 machines.
OR... do I have to suck it up and buy a 2nd license?
    Thanks again,
    --JC

You can also have CS4 and CS5 installed together
on more than two systems (in my case - four).
The limitation of two systems applies to "activation" not installation.
You can have both CS4 and CS5 "activated" on only two systems at once,
but installed on as many as you like.
The deactivation / activation process is simple and instant.

  • Unity Upgrade License Question

I am upgrading Unity 4.05 to Unity 7.0x and changing out server hardware.
I have a new license key file with the NEW servers MAC address.
I am going to upgrade the old server from 4.05 to 7.01 then dirt backup and dirt restore to the new 7.01 unity server with the new license.
Do I need to get a temp license for the old server mac address in order to convert it from Unity 4.05 to 7.0 just to dirt backup?

If you are just using it for DIRT, then its no problem.
However... I would probably do the following:
Install Unity 4.05 on the new server
    DIRT Export the old server
DIRT import to the new server
    In place upgrade to 7.x
This way, if you have any problems, your production server is still running and easy rollback plan.  If you upgrade your production and something happens... you cant rollback. (could if you pull a drive)
Unity will still start and run, but the Subscribers or ports will not register when the license is not there.  Which is fine for DIRT, it does not care.  Its only accessing the database to pull out what it needs. (everything)
Be prepared for licensing issues.  They have been extremely slow lately

  • WCS base upgrade to PLUS license question

I have a 50 AP base WCS running. What kind if license do I need to order to be able to do location? These two have the same price, but can I upgrade to 100 WPLUS from 50 BASE by ordering the second one?
    L-LIC-WPLUS-50
50 AP WPLUS  license (Delivery via Email)
    L-LIC-WPLUS-100U
50 to 100 AP WPLUS upgrade license   (Delivery via Email)
    Thanks,
    Tao

You would need an upgrade license to go from base to plus.
CISCO BASE-TO-CISCO PLUS  UPGRADE FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS (WCS-PLUS-UPG-K9)
    • If  you are an EXISTING customer who wants to upgrade from a Cisco Base to  Cisco PLUS license, order WCS-PLUS-UPG-K9 and select one of the  Cisco WCS PLUS upgrade options below:
WCS-PLUS-UPG-50:  License supports up to 50 access points. <---------------------
WCS-PLUS-UPG-100:  License supports up to 100 access points.
WCS-PLUS-UPG-500:  License supports up to 500 access points.
Note: The number of WCS-PLUS-UPG-K9 licenses purchased must equal or exceed  the number of installed WCS Base licenses for the Cisco WCS to register  as a Cisco WCS PLUS system. Thereafter, additional capacity is added by  ordering PLUS licenses.

  • Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10 Licensing Question

    Hello,
Have a question about the licensing migration of Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10, do we need to order a upgrade license via PUT tool for license migration, or we can just finish the migration without have Cisco licensing team involved?
    Thanks,

You need to order it through PUT, but keep in mind that you will not receive a PAK for CUCM or UCXN 9 or 10 as the licenses need to be migrated to ELM. Once you upgrade ELM will be installed on each node and you pick one as your ELM server, then you follow the steps to migrate your license directly from ELM, email the request to cisco licensing and they will provide the license. You have 60 days to install new license after the upgrade.

  • WCS upgrade question

    Hi-
I have recently installed WCS 4.0.96 on Windows 2003. Foundstone is detecting an Apache/TOmcat vulnerability.
I saw on Cisco's website that the latest versions are 4.0.97, and 4.1.91.
Can I upgrade to 4.1.91 by downloading the file on the website? Does it work with the license I have for 4.0.96?
    Thanks!

Have just upgraded my own wcs, and licensing remained due to the backup made before upgrade/reinstall and restore afterwards.
Notice that the upgrade is a little complicated.
    1. backup your wcs
    2. uninstall your wcs
    3. install the new version
    4. restore your backup (have patience) this wont work if your server has less than 2 Gb of memory.
reload the server, and voila your wcs is back online

  • LR4 upgrade license key works on Desktop but not Laptop?

    Hi,
I had a fully licensed copy of Lightroom 3 running on my desktop machine (iMac). Once LR4 was released, I downloaded LR4 on that machine to use on a "trial" basis while waiting on my boxed copy of LR4 (upgrade version). Once I get my boxed copy of LR4, I entered the upgrade key from the LR4 box into Lightroom, and (as expected), the software asked for my "previous version" key since what I entered was an upgrade key rather than a full key. I noticed that it pre-populated my LR3 key (I suppose since a licensed version of LR3 had been running on that machine previously). All was good - it took the key and enabled the software.
    So far so good.
Now, I just bought a new laptop (MacBook Pro). This machine has never had LR3 on it. I installed LR4 and started using it on a trial basis same as my desktop. Once I got my boxed copy of my LR4 upgrade, I enter the key from the LR4 box into Lightroom, and like on my desktop it asked for the key from my "previous version" of Lightroom. Same as before. Only this time the LR3 key was not pre-populated (I suppose since LR3 had never existed on this machine).
Now, the problem is that when I enter my LR3 key (in conjunction with my LR4 upgrade key) on my laptop, it does not take. There remains a big "X" to the right of my key as if the key is invalid. I have triple checked the value of the key (it is the Serial Number from my LR3 boxed copy) and it is correct, and it is the same one that worked on my desktop.
    Questions:
    - Anyone else know what could explain this?
    - Do I actually have to have an installed version of LR3 on my Laptop in order to use the upgrade key to enable LR4? Or should I just be able to have only LR4 installed, and enter both my LR3 (full) + LR4 (upgrade) license keys? Hopefully the latter..
    - Any other suggestions?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Please disregard.
It just worked all of a sudden (copying and pasting same S/N, so I don't know what changed...).

  • WLC upgrade license and access point

    Hi everyone,
I need suggestion regarding wlc 5508  upgrade license. Right now i have 150 license for access points. There will be upgrade around 300 access points. So we are planning to buy new license until the maximum capacity of 5508 (500 licenses).
Our management ip address is 192.168.50.x/24 . so all the access point are pointed to this management ip address (in the same subnet)
    First question,
Because there will be an upgrade to around 450 access point. The current management ip address will not be enough.
Please, give me the  best suggestion ?
Should i create another management ip address ? or I need to make a bigger subnet using the current management ip address ?
if i create a bigger ip address, the current access points must be set again yups ?
    Second question
There will be a new link connected to the wlc, and i want to create new user subnets.
what is the best practices for this matter ?
if there are better suggestion, please let me know, i am still learning about wireless
    I have attached the topology.
    Thank you
    Fanie

For an example, a 5508 can support up to 500 AP's, and the AP's can be in one large subnet or be in many different subnets and or even different locations. As long as the ap knows how to discover the WLC or the ap already had joined the WLC, then the AP's don't have to be on the same subnet as the WLC. The easiest way to have AP's join is to stage them on the same subnet as the WLC management and then move them to a different subnet. I would probably have no more than 100 AP's per subnet, but that's me. Stage some AP's on the management subnet that the WLC is on and then when the AP's join and complete downloading code, change the switch port Vlan and shut and no shut the port. The ap will come back up and join the WLC.

  • Licensing Question

    Hello,
i.e. one is having having a scenario with a 3000-3999 users and the corresponding license.
Then a new division joins the enterprise or a new customer is aquired by a SAAS provider which brings them over the license limit by lets say 80 users.
Q: How will the 80 new users be licensed?
    1. Will they be licensed at the price of the 3000-3999 tier (0% price change)
    2. Will they be licensed at the price of the 4000-4999 tier (~7% price reduction per user)
    3. Will they be licensed at the price of the 100-200 tier (~455% price increase per user)
Say if it's 3, what would be the best ways to license for such a scenario? Is there some kind of license merging, upgrade licensing to existing licenses or something else?
    Cheers
    Christoph

Right to Use Feature Licenses follow the traditional licensing model and do not use Cisco Software Activation. They are perpetual in most cases, but you need to read license terms of particular license agreement to discover the details of particular license. Same apply for "features" - license agreement will describe what's covered by particular license. License agreement and proof of purchase is sufficient "proof of any license" in most cases/countries/jurisdictions, but your auditor may ask other documents if he wish. Ask your auditor.

  • Using Upgrade License on UCCX 8.0 with "Fresh Install" setup

    Hi all,
My situation right now is that I want to install UCCX 8.0 (on a VM environment) and I don't have any previous UCCX version deployed, but the licenses I have are :
    - an Upgrade License from ver.5 to ver.8
    - a PAK and SW kit license (also contains the seats licenses) for UCCX version 5.
Because I don't have any previous UCCX version deployed, I installed UCCX 8.0 and chose "Fresh Install". When I upload the upgrade license, the server returned a warning that said "The license for Cisco Unified CCX Premium Seat ESW or UCSS Upgrade is not a valid addition for the package None and therefore it will be ignored" and "The license for Cisco Unified CCX Premium ESW or UCSS Upgrade is not a valid addition for the package None and therefore it will be ignored".
    My questions are :
    - Can I use the licenses I have on a fresh installation of UCCX 8.0 ( the upgrade license and the ver.5 license) ? Because I've tried similar scenarios with the licenses on Unity Connection and it worked. I'm wondering if it's not possible with UCCX 8.0 and that's what caused the error.
    - If the answer for the "Fresh Install" path is No, does it mean I have to use the "Upgrade" path -what I'm trying to avoid if I can- meaning that I have to install ver.5 first and then upgrade it to ver.8 using PUT( ? Because on the initial setup If I choose "Ugrade from previous version" it will ask where the data from the previous version are located and right now I don't have any.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Regi

Thanks for the answer Hoai Huynh (and Aaron for adding the info).
Just what I was worrying about, I need to build a ver.5 first. I would appreciate it if you can answer a few last questions if you don't mind :
So, I need to install UCCX v.5 and also CM v.5 (because my CM v.8 is not supported by UCCX v.5).
Can the UCCX ver.5 data from the migration tool (PUT) be used on the UCCX v.8 that is integrated with different CM server (different IP address, different credentials, etc) ? Because the steps in the UCCX v.8 upgrade guide are describing a scenario where the CM is the same server and is being upgraded at the same time with UCCX.
Related to no.1 question, Is there anything I should be aware of when setting up the UCCX ver.5 and CM ver.5 ? For example : need to have same IP addresses with the version8 servers, same AXL / application user name and password, etc.
At exactly what point of configuration on UCCX v.5 can I use the PUT to migrate data from the ver.5 (the guide only mentioned to make sure that the server is up and running)? Can I do it right away after the first initial setup ? Or do I need to configure a working application to get all the subsystems in "full-service" first ?
    Thanks again.

  • Upgrade license and Lion

    Hi everyone,
A colleague's computer has officially died and we're replacing it with a new Mac mini, which will be running Lion/OS 10.7
I'll be installing all her applications from scratch. We have licenses for CS3 and an upgrade license for CS5
From what I've read, there are some problems with some components of CS3/CS4 running on Lion (Flash and Photoshop are the mentioned programs that affect my colleague).
Given this, I was thinking better of installing the complete CS3 suite, but instead only installing InDesign CS3 as we have some projects that have not/will not be updated to CS5.
    I have two questions:
    1) Are there any issues, known or anecdotal about running InDesign CS3 on Lion?
    2) If I install only InDesign CS3, will I be able to use the upgrade license when installing the CS5 suite? Does the license look for an installation of the suite, or is it happy as long as you can provide the activation codes?
    Thanks!

This might be of help. It caused me alot of headaches when I upgraded to Lion & was running ID CS5.
"A couple days ago I asked Why my InDesign is Unresponsive after installing Lion & I wanted to share what the answer was. (I couldn't for the life of me add to my previous discussion -couldn't find a Reply button)
Anyhow...after wiping out my computer & doing a clean install by an IT person, InDesign was still Unresponsive. Somewhere along the line we were able (ha ha) to get an error that said I need to install Java RunTime. Apparently this is not included in Lion & is needed to run InDesign.
Hope this might help  others out there experiencing this problem"

  • Query on Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro Upgrade Licensing

I am upgrading from Windows XP OEM to Windows 8.1 Upgrade paper license. Does these upgraded paper of  Windows 8.1 would still be valid if I discard OEM machine after 1-2 year? Or upgrade license would be legally invalid once actual machine will be
down/discarded. My second query is that
Instead of upgrade If I buy  fresh/new win8.1 paper license through Open License Policy and install on these Windows XP machine, would these licenses still be valid in case machine down/discarded?

If you are referring to retail upgrade licensing, that license is separate from the OEM license which validates the upgrade. So if you have a system with Windows XP OEM and you install a retail upgrade on it, then discard the box as part of a refresh to
a new system which has Windows 7 preinstalled, the upgrade license can be used on the new system once it is removed from the old system.
Volume Licenses for Windows are only available as upgrades, so the same logic applies to them. In neither case can the upgrade operating system be installed to a system which does not have a qualifying operating system (bare metal).

  • Will an Adobe Acrobat XI Pro Upgrade license work to upgrade an Adobe Acrobat XI Standard installation?

The buying guide for the XI Pro Upgrade (here - Buying guide | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro) does not list Adobe XI Standard in the left hand column... but I currently have XI Standard and want to to go XI Pro, will this work?

    Hi Mike ,
There is no such policy to upgrade license from Acrobat XI Standard to Acrobat XI Pro.
If you have the subscription for the Standard version ,you need to get that cancelled and get a new subscription for Acrobat Pro.
If you have the retail version or if you have purchased the software ,you can return that and get a new retail version for Acrobat XI Pro.
For more information ,please contact the technical support.

  • Transferring Coldfusion to a new server - Upgrade license; Can't find old license key HELP!!

I am currently in the process of porting over my data from another server to a new server.
On that server I am running ColdFusionMX7 Standard and want to continue running it on the new one.
Coldfusion is currently loaded on the new server through a trial edition but when I try and enter the Serial Number I see on the Coldfusion on the server I am currently operating, it prompts me that "You have entered an upgrade license key (XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX), which requires you to enter the license key of your previous version of ColdFusion."
Do you have any advice on this?  Is there any way to find that old license on the old server?

  • Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi.  I have a few questions.
    Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License.  I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?
    Question 2:
Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:
However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
I then looked at the Lumira Deployment Options for Departments Part 1 – ASUG Webcast by Tammy Powlas to get some more information on Lumira Server for BI Platform.  This slide gave me some hope (emphasis mine in green):
But then I see some more information a little later:
Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository?  And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused.  I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization.  We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

    Hi Michael
You are right, it is confusing...
I think it will be better to contact sales to get this explained as opposed to technical support people that monitor this SCN Space.
