WOL NX-OS 7000 Configuration

I'm trying to implement a WOL solution on a pair of Nexus 7ks. I have read through documentation and multiple posts and am still having trouble with it. The basic design is that I have a WOL server on vlan 10 with an address of 10.10.10.57 trying to wake up a computer on vlan 30 with an ip of 10.10.30.65.
On the Nexus I have an access list that is defined as such,
ip access-list WOL
permit udp host 10.10.10.57 any eq 9
Then on the vlan 30 interface I have an ip directed broadcast with the access list applied to it.
int vlan 30
ip directed broadcast WOL
I understand that on a catalyst switch there would be a ip helper-address on the vlan interface of the WOL server, but there is no ip helper address on the WOL server. I am using the Solarwinds WOL freeware tool and the AquilaWOL tool that is available on Sourceforge. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi,
The PC peer link can be configured on M1 series I/O modules, but only on the 10GE modules. From the Configuring vPC section of the Nexus 7000 configuration guide:
    vPC Peer Links
A vPC peer link is the link that is used to synchronize the states between the vPC peer devices. Both ends of the link must be on 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
What type are your M1 I/O modules? I can't see from what you attached.

  • H77MA-G43 wake on lan (WOL) issue

    Hi guys,
I need WOL to be enabled on 4 machine h77ma-g43 based, I3 3220 CPU.
I have last BIOS installed , 1,9, I've disabled eup, tryn' for half an hour to enable WOL on the integrated NIC but nothing seems to work...
I think the only way is to buy a new PCIE NIC... (because there's "wake on pcie" on the bios settings) and this is very disappointing.
PS. When mobo is turned off, I see no led activity, WOL software is well configured and I often use it with other mobos/PCs.
Any suggestion? If not... this is the first mobo I ever see that not support WOL!!

    Hi
I found this in the configuration guide for the Nexus 7000 configuring VPCs
"When you enable this feature (peer-gateway), Cisco NX-OS automatically disables IP redirects on all interface VLANs mapped over a vPC VLAN to avoid generation of IP redirect messages for packets switched through the peer gateway router."
However this is not happening automatically on the 5K, so you need to manually add "no ip redirects" on each VPC vlan interface to prevent duplicate pings.

  • Jumbo frame

We enabled jumbo frame (MTU 8500) on our FWSM interface , after that the IP phones not working normally (go to backup mode and some of them keep reloading).
the IP Phones are communicating with CCM which found behind this FWSM.
after return MTU to 1500 , they are working properly.
    Anyone face this issue?

  • Log configuration changes to syslog on Nexus 7000?

I need to be able to log any configuration changes to syslog on our Nexus switches. On IOS this is easy with the archive commands, but I'm a little stuck trying to do this on our Nexus gear. On the IOS gear I run the commands:
    archive
    log config
    logging enable
    logging size 100
    hidekeys
    notify syslog
How do I do the equivalent on NX-OS?

Cisco NX-OS can log configuration change events along with the individual changes when AAA command accounting is enabled.
With command accounting enabled, all CLI commands entered, including configuration commands, are logged to the configured AAA server. Using this information, a forensic trail for configuration change events along with the individual commands entered for those changes can be recorded and reviewed.
Because of this capability, it is strongly advised that AAA command accounting be enabled and configured.
Refer to the “TACACS+ Command Accounting” section of this document for more information.
The Nexus 7000, by default keeps a local accounting log of all the configuration commands entered on the device; you can view this with the 'show accounting log' command.
In NX-OS, we changed the way logging works.  We keep a local accounting log of all the
configuration changes ("show accounting log"), but if you want to send those logs to a
server, it must be done with through a TACACS server.  Please see the below documentation:
    Configuring AAA on Nexus

  • Nexus 7000 with VPC and HSRP Configuration

    Hi Guys,
I would like to know how to implement HSRP with the following setup:
There are 2 Nexus 7000 connected with VPC Peer link. Each of the Nexus 7000 has a FEX attached to it.
The server has two connections going to the FEX on each Nexus 7k (VPC). FEX's are not dual homed as far as I now they are not supported currently.
    R(A)              R(S)
    |                     |
    7K Peer Link 7K
    |                     |
    FEX              FEX
    Server connected to both FEX
The question is we have two routers connected to each of the Nexus 7k in HSRP (active and one is standby). How can I configure HSRP on the nexus switches and how the traffic will routed from the Standby Nexus switch to Active Nexus switch (I know HSRP works differently here as both of them can forward packets). Will the traffic go to the secondary switch and then via the peer link to the active switch and then to the active router ? (From what I read the packet from end hosts which will go via the peer link will get dropped)
Has anyone implemented this before ?
    Thanks

    Hi Kuldeep,
If you intend to put those routers on a non-vpc vlan, you  may create  a new inter-switch trunk between the N7K and allow that non-vpc vlan . However if those will be on a VPC vlan, best to create two links to the N7K pair and create a VPC, otherwise configure those ports as orphan ports which will leverage the VPC peer link .

  • Event ID 7000 Diagnostic Service Host failed to start. Privilege in service requiring to function doesn't exist in service account configuration.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I get this error when I try to start the Windows Search service. All of the solutions that I've seen talk about changing Security Settings | Local Policies | User Rights Assignment. However, from what I can determine in Home
Premium there is no way to access those settings or anything to do with group policies. Does anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi T_Meyer,
    Thanks for feedback.
Actually, I am waiting for OP come back. In my first reply, I  confirm the question first, because the
User Rights Assignment setting would be reflected to the registry data.
I know the current Home Premium does not contain the Group Policy Editor, but we need know if this is the real cause for this issue.
    Back to the answer:
To edit the user rights, alternatively, we can use ntrights tool, although this is no longer supported after Windows XP, but we can still use it:

set the SeSystemProfilePrivilege for NT Service\WdiServiceHost

  • Installing SSD in customized HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Edition Notebook

I have a customized dv6t-7000 entertainment notebook and I would like to install an SSD to boot the OS.  According to the manual, or at least from vague pictures in the manual, the SSD installs directly to the motherboard.  It doesn't specify what type of SSDs the available replacement parts are and I can't view the specifics on the HP parts replacement website either.  I am wondering what type of SSDs are compatible with the port in the laptop, is it for mSATA (SATA II or III) or for 2.5" SSDs.  I don't know too much about SSDs, but I want to be able to find a compatible part.  I currently use the optical drive, so I don't want to switch it out for a hard drive chasis.  I understand that method would use a 2.5" SSD.   If anyone can clarify what type of port is in the laptop and what SSDs are compatible, that would be awesome!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Here is the Service Manual which will be helpful:
    Manual
If your laptop is an Intel model then you have an mSSD slot which looks like a wireless slot.
See Page 71. Unfortunately the mSSD slot is a bear to access. If taking the laptop almost all the way apart is something you can do, then an mSSD is in the cards for you. If not, I strongly suggest simply replacing the mechanical drive with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD drive. Even if you can get the mSSD installed, configuring the system to boot from the mSSD is also very hard if you also want to have a regular hard drive for storage. It is easier to apply the mSSD as an acceleration cache drive, making the main hard drive perform more like an SSD.

  • WoL across subnets, how many helpers can you use?

Been going through the searches on this and I can't find an answer to my question. We are implementing Dell KACE and are deploying WoL campus wide. I'm following the referenced doc and in our test environment its working well.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps5023/products_configuration_example09186a008084b55c.shtml#diag
My question is this part --------v
I get the need for the bolded helper addresses on the server VLAN. However, I have nearly 150 target networks to deal with. We are on a Class A 10.x.x.x.x, Is there a better way to break this down or do I have to put a target entry for each subnet like the example. I don't want to combine networks because I don't want to broadcast that traffic over that many networks and hosts. Any ideas.
    L3(config-if)#
    interface vlan 3
    ip address 172.16.3.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 172.16.2.255
    ip helper-address 172.16.4.255

I do not believe that there is a limit on how many helper addresses can be configured on a router. I am not sure if the same is true on a layer 3 switch (and I assume that what you are showing us is a layer 3 switch). You might just configure it will all the helper addresses and see if it works.
It might be possible to implement some hierarchal approach. If your 150 networks were in 10 regions each of which had 15 networks, then it might be possible to put 10 helper addresses on the router/layer 3 switch where the WOL server is located with each helper address going to a region. On the subnet at each region there could be another router/layer 3 switch with 15 helper addresses to send the broadcast out to the networks in that region.

  • SG200 how to configure Wake on LAN across subnets

How can I configure  to support WOL on a SG200 (8 Ports) to support Wake On Lan (Magic Packets) from a different IP Subnet or other SG200 Switch. It seems not to support Directed-Broadcasts.

I checked out the link and tested the changes. Unfortunately, the WOL still won't work. In the link you attached, it states that you cannot turn on a computer that is off. Does that mean one that is off such as unplugged or in shutdown? Also, one of the steps to configure the firewall access rules says to block all outbound connections for all services. That doesn't make any sense to me, but I might be wrong. I also noticed that the link was for another router. I don't know if that makes a difference. I also read somewhere in the forums that someone else is having a similar problem, saying that Port Forwarding still isn't working in the latest firmware. This whole problem is strange because it used to work all the time on my old router with Port Forwarding, but on this one it won't work at all.

    Hi @don1952,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some software problems with the Officejet 7000 drivers and your computer running the Windows 8.1 Operating system. After some research you are not alone, it's actually the Microsoft Operating system and the language settings, if it is set to English (United Kingdom) then this will cause the issues you are experiencing. You just need to go in and change the systems language to English (United States), please follow the steps listed below:
    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Select, Clock Language and Region
    3. Now select Change Region
    4. In the Format tab select the English (United States)
    5. In the Location tab ensure you have United states in the Current location drop down
    6. Now select Apply
    I hope this helps!
