Won't Update Apps

The App Store says that it won't update my apps because they were bought on a different user or because it was refunded or canceled. I am trying to update Pages, iPhoto, Garage Band, iMovie, Keynote, and Numbers so they came with my computer, which is the new Macbook pro with retina display. I have never changed my iTunes account also. How do I get it to update?

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept them into your Apple ID, do so.
2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
4. Buy them.

I'm having trouble with my iPad - Won't update Apps...

Many people are having this problem for the last couple of days. This is a problem that Apple has to fix. If you look around the forum, you will see many, many discusssions about this and they have been going on for a few days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this is a workaround - for the time being.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store.

  • TS1368 Verizon iPhone 4 won't update apps

For about two weeks now, my Verizon iPhone 4 (ios 5.1.1)  won't update apps from the update feature.  I can make purchases and otherwise access my account, but although the red icon appears to tell me that there are updates available, I receive the message "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" when I open the apps app.  I have no trouble updating the apps manually (by searching for the app and choosing "install" I am prompted to update.)  But I can't update automatically by using the updates icon on the App Store menu.
I have a 4th gen iPod and iPad 3 as well, and they have no trouble updating normally on the same network; nor does my computer.  I can't find any reference to anyone else having this problem; can anyone help?
FYI, I have already tried every solution I've seen posted on this site to no avail.  They only seem to address the issue of not being able to access the iTunes store at all; I ONLY have this issue with the update function -- purchases and manual updates work fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately, the app that is problematic is the App Store app, which is undeletable. Nothing else is giving me a problem.
I did eventually find a thread discussing this problem, and all the solutions are work-arounds, such as update from iTunes on my computer and then sync to my phone.  This does work, but it's a bit of a pain to have to do that in order to update.  I'd really like to just do it automatically from the device, the way it was intended to work.

  • IPod Touch 3 won't update apps

iPod Touch 3 won't update apps. When I respond to the notice of an available update, the icon dims and a "waiting" message appears under it. It will hang like that until I delete it and reinstall the new app. I had another problem that has been resolved when I tried to get more episodes of a podcast, I ended up with 11 of them in the queue that wouldn't ever finish. They too would just hang there. I had to delete them all and get them through iTunes. I don't know how to upgrade the apps from iTunes though. Why is this happening just since I upgraded to ios 5.0.1?

If We Update 2nd Gen Ipod Touch From 3.1.3 To Higher Level WilL It Slow my iPod  :/
    I suppose that's debatable.
My iPod does ocassionaly take a few seconds to carry out a command, but since it is such a powerful device, capable of so much, I'm prepared to wait two extra seconds.
(I have 2nd generation iPod Touch with iOS 4.2.1 on it.)
By the way, since your question has no connection to the one asked by the original poster, it would have been far wiser for you to create your own thread. That way, you are actually more likely to get responsess to your question.

  • My iTunes Won't update apps

My iTunes Won't update apps when i click check update it say"your iTunes library is up-to date"
awhen i check update From iPhone the it update all apps which are out dated

It sounds like you've already done the things that would fix most  iPhones.
You can try restoring your iPhone.
If that doesn't do it, try contacting Apple through Express Lane. They may be able to gather some aditional logs and pinpoint the exact problem.

  • Apps on AppStore won't update apps. Everytime I hit update on one of the apps, it opens up that certain app and doesn't update it. Any ideas on what's going on?

The apps on my AppStore won't update. It gives me the notification on the App Store on the app, and when I check it and hit update, it just opens up the app. none of the apps will update because all they will do is just open the app. anyone know what to do?

As you can see when I go to my Updates page in the App Store, as an example you can see that Facebook shows an Update button. However, it's already updated and when I click update it simply opens FB.
If I open the App Store and search for Facebook, it shows the Open button next to it. This Updates page has a major bug.
And why does Chrome and Vevo still show up under the Updates page? Shouldnt they be under the Purchased section?
Im still on 7.0.6 but I highly doubt that is the issue as this wasn't happening up until a month or two ago. I thought nothing of it until so many people kept reporting the same bug/error. Has anyone found a fix for this?

  • IPhone 4 Won't Update Apps After Email Change

I changed my Apple ID email online.  Then I went into the store settings and signed in with the new one.  Worked.  Then I went to the app store and it still shows my old Email address when I try to update things.  Can't change it there.  If I go to the app store>catergories>scroll the bottom, I can see my NEW email address there, but not in the update area.  I've synced it in iTunes, I've turned the iPhone off and on a number of times now.  I can't update any apps or buy things from the app store because my old email address shows up in ONE PLACE and ONE PLACE ONLY...  the update apps area.  How can I fix this so I can use the app store once again?
    Thanks!!!

I have the same annoying problem.. When my old id-adress came up, i tried to write in the password.. And im positive that i wrote in the correct one, but i won't go through.. So I try to reset that password by getting it on my email.. But I never get a emal.. And now, after trying for a million times, the apps that i tryed to update, no longer shows ???
    This is so annoying!!
    Please someone help us!
I did try to reset my primary apple-id adress, but it won't change. It says that the adress is already in use..
    I fon't grt this?
When you change your apple-id all of your stuff, apps and everything should come along, so that you can update them or whatever as normal even if the apple-id is changed..
This is ********. It shouldn't be this hard !!

  • ITunes 11.1.5 Won't Update Apps

About Mid Feb 2014, my iTunes 11.1.5 on my MacBook Pro suddenly "refused" to update Apps or download new Apps over my home wifi.  However, it had no trouble quickly downloading content like video podcasts and even HD movies.
I searched high and low for a solution on numerous sites including Apple Support and could not resolve this.  I have made no changes for months to my wifi/router and I've tried every reasonable-sounding solution offered without success.
However, finally today, after many random attempts at solutions (unblocking firewalls and more), I happened to press the Apple Command key while clicking on the Apps Update button in iTunes and all my Apps started downloading and updating as they should.  But if I just press Update without holding down the Command key, the Apps updates don't work.  Any ideas what's going on or why?  Using the Command key seems to be a useful but undocumented solution.

Once the iPhone is plugged in to the mac, open iTunes. In iTunes, under the library heading on the left side of the screen, click on apps. It should list all of the apps on the connected iPhone. You then can click each app individualy and update them or click update all in the lower right hand corner.
Let me know if that does not work.

A number of people seem to be having this problem right now.  Try purchasing it using iTunes on your computer, accept the terms and conditions there, then either sync it to your phone or download it on your phone as a past purchase (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).

  • Ipad won't update apps on new iMac but iPhone will when sync'd with usb

    Hello,
I have the new imac and exported my itunes library from my old imac.  I updated my apps in itunes.  Then I sync'd my iphone 4s via the USB cable and it backed up and updated apps. Saw it processed steps 1 thru 7 (7 is update apps on iphone).   Disconnected ipad 3 to new imac via USB cable and it only performs steps 1 thru 6.  The apps will not update unless I click the "update" button on the itunes screen.  Anyone else encounter this and any solution?  Thanks!

Well I resolved it, by right clicking on the devices (for my ipad) and clicking "Sync".

  • Ipad won't update apps

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else is running into the same issue...
My iPad kept showing that there were lots of Apps to update (72 in my case!).  I used the Update All in the App Store, but my iPad never finished updating despite waiting hours and even days later it still wasn't updated.  Worse was that all the Apps that iOS was trying to update showing an empty progress bar on the App icon (instead of the blue progress bar through the app as it updates).
The word "INSTALLING" was greyed out on all the items in the App Store Updates section.  Ugh, what to do?  Didn't want to do a restore and lose all the data.
Here's the slow but sure way to fix this issue (hit like if it works to keep this post active for others):
    - Goto the "App Store" and Choose the "Updates" tab.  Look at how many apps need updating and write down which apps have the greyed out "INSTALLING" .  DO NOT HIT UPDATE ALL, this will only add more backed up apps to the update queue.
    - Hit your Apple Home button to go back to the main App screens.  Start with the first of page of Apps on you iPad.  Look for any App icon that has an empty progress bar in it, and double click it to interrupt the update.  The iPad should pause for a second before delivering a message that the update was not applied and then show the original icon of the App.  If you get a WHITE blank icon it means the App has been corrupted and you'll need to hold down on the icon until the little X shows up to delete the App (write down the name so you can go back to the App store and install it again).  You'll need to go through the entire list until you've stopped the update process of all apps.
    - Go back to the App Store and into the Update section and verify each App has a normal selecrtable "UPDATE" button available.  DO NOT HIT THE "UPDATE ALL" button in the upper left corner or you'll just recreate the problem again.  One by one hit the UPDATE button next to the App that needs updating.  Do not update the next app until the previous App is finished.  You are looking for which App's update button is going to stop the update process and get stuck!  Watch the blue bar on each App until it completes.  When it is successful the "UPDATE" button switches to an "OPEN" button.  Once you find the App where the blue bar doesn't progress at all you'll find the culprit that caused your Update train wreck.
    - You'll need to go back out to the main desktop, find the page and possbily folder that the App is in and hold your finger down on it until it gives you the option to delete it (the X in the upper left of the app icon).  Once you delete this app you can go back to update the apps several at a time until you are finished.  You will then want to plug your iPad into your Mac/PC with iTunes, or do an iCloud sync to backup your iPad.
Take the time to go back to the app store and flag the offending App to let other users know this App was the cause of your update probelms.  Sometimes these issues are noted in the App's release notes with text saying, Users will need to manually delete the previous version and reinstall the App in order to get the latest update.
Hope this helps!  Hit like if it does, it something else worked please hit reply and share.

I have the same problem as the OP. Wife clicked on UPDATE ALL in her iPad mini w/iOS 6.1.3, and the iPad tried to update 20 or 30 apps. All ended up with a darkened icon with an empty progress bar, and "Waiting..." displayed instead of the app's title.
Before finding this thread, I powered the iPad off then on a couple of times, and also performed a hard reset. Neither intervention had any effect.
I tried to follow the recipe above. Unfortunately, double-tapping on one of the stuck apps doesn't work as described:
"The iPad should pause for a second before delivering a message that the update was not applied and then show the original icon of the App".
Instead, the icon goes very dark for a second, then returns to its previous state (Waiting...).
I've deleted most of the affected apps, but a few have large amounts of associated data that I am loathe to erese. Fortunately, the iPad was backed up this morning, so in theory I should be able to restore it from the backup.

  • IPad won't update apps after upgrading to ios8 ?
