Woo Hoo !! Downgraded Safari to 4.0.5.... ALL of the performance is back !

I used Pacifist to downgrade from Safari 5.0.3 to 4.0.5.
Wow ! Now I remember what a great web browser my Mac offered !
FAST refreshes, FAST screen paints, NO...and I mean NO Flash issues.
I highly recommend you downgrade your browser from 5.0 to 4.0.
You will immediately see the difference and remember what a fast, efficient browser looks like on your Mac.

I couldn't believe the astonishing and immediate difference.
THIS is the fast MacBook Pro I bought. Safari 5 had me feeling like I was stuck back in IE w/ WinDOS.
It's a very easy procedure....
1) Download Safari 4.0.5 from here:
http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/Safari-Download-25616.html
2) Download Pacifist from here:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
3) Close safari 5.0
4) Launch Pacifist
5) Click the "Open Package' button
6) Navigate to, and select the Safari 4.0.5 package you downloaded
7) From the Pacifist window you will be navigated to, select the top level of the package in the"Package Contents" box
8) Click "Install" in the upper left of the window.
9) When prompted, Select "Use Administrator Privileges"
10) When prompted select "Replace" and check the "do not ask me again" box.
Done !
Enjoy having your fast browser back !

I have a new MacBook(2012). Being a new Mac user, I do not know what to do when Safari doesn't open at all. The icon just bounces up and down and when the cursor is on the top main menu bar it is the spinning rainbow wheel. Any ideas for help?

When I try to open safari the icon stats bouncing and then nothing happens other than the cursor turning to a spinning rainbow wheel when it hoovers on the top main menu bar. I have shut down and restart several times. My safari worked yesterday and then today this, but with. I indication of a problem. I can't even get the browser window to open so that I can clear caches or reset anything. When I opened my computer this time I don't even get a bouncing icon. No recognition of selecting the program at all. If I go to spotlight and try to open safari from here I still get no response. Can you help?

If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Try Safari.

If that is corrrect, you need to update your system software. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software
Update ...

HOW DO YOU DOWNGRADE TO ITUNES 10.0.0 TO GET THE GENIUS SIDEBAR BACK ??

If you downgrade back to 10.0.0 will your music library, movies still be there ?
This ping thing is a waste and they could have added ping but not removed the genius sidebar.

The issue with that white space is explained by the use of relative positioning of your menu. Remember that relative positioning visually allows you to move an element, but that its "shadow" or "foot print" is retained in the document flow. So it still takes up space where it originally flowed in your content, and this causes the header image to position itself the way it does. Turn off the relative positioning of the menu to see what I mean. A simple solution is to set the #header to relative positioning, and then apply absolute positioning to the menu.
There are other issues with your code. Much of it can be simplified, and you should really stop using ID selectors from this point on, and predominantly use classes instead. The use of ID selectors ought to be limited as much as you can - they force you to write bloated convoluted code.
Try to write DryCSS (Don't Repeat Yourself).

When I use Safari, ads popup all over the place.

Recently when using Safari, I get popup ads all over the place along with jerky performance. When I disable Java in Safari, the problem disappears, but then I can't view videos. I downloaded an Apple approved copy of Java for Yosemite and installed it, but the problem persists. I then ran a Mac malware removal program as well as the Avast anti-virus scan, but the problem still remains.

Has anyone successfully downgraded safari 5 to ver. 4.0.5 after doing the latest OS 10.6.4 upgrade?

I went to the Multisafari site http://michelf.com/projects/multi-safari/ and they have this posted: "These special versions of Safari use the original Web Kit framework that came with them, bundled inside the application. They will mimic original Safari rendering and javascript behaviours. *HTTP requests and cookies however are still handled by the system and may not work exactly the same."* My questions are, 1. could this have a bad result (the HTTP requests and cookies thing)?, and, 2. Has anyone successfully used this particular fix after 10.6.4?

Downgrade Safari 5.0.5

Hi Group!
I need to downgrade Safari 5.0.5 to 5.0.3 for use with an Internal application here at work.
I followed the steps on a few other forums but for whatever reason, the 5.0.3 installer appear to have detected something else within the OS related to 5.0.5.
Everytime I try to install 5.0.3, I get: Safari can't be installed on this disk. This Volume already has a newer version of Safari installed.
Anyone know what i missed?
I thought i removed everything. Guess not!

You probably missed the receipts files.
Quit Safari.
Delete Safari
Delete the receipts files at /Library/Receipts/Safari5.pkg
Empty Trash
Mount the Safari 5.0.3 dmg file (which you presumably already have) and install it
Restart your Mac
Repair permissions

Apple store gave me a new iPhone, woo-hoo!

My old iPhone (a 51 week old 3GS model) had a problem with overheating....so the Apple store gave me a new iPhone, woo-hoo! However, I'm not sure if this is a new model or a reconditioned phone. How long can I expect it to last? It has a 90 day warranty.

I just got a replacement 3gs too.
It's running much better than my original.
The replacement is running 3.1.3 and I will NOT upgrade to iOS4..which is what trashed my original 48 week old 3gs.
Really appreciate that year warranty when they have so many bad OS updates.
My Apple Store made me jump thru a few hoops before replacing it, but it was all worth it to get a 3GS that works right and is MUCH faster than the original.

LR 2.6 - woo-hoo!

A woo-hoo because the problem I've always had with scrollwheeling (is that a word?) corrupting the scrollbars and not scrolling when all the panels are expanded (and currently also present in the LR-3 beta) has apparently been fixed! At least it has evaded my various attempts to bring it on so far.

Hi Geoff - actually no, I've just adjusted to it thinking maybe it's a video driver thing and mainly just annoying sometimes and God knows there's enough work already. I do have the bug report link right under the Lightroom link, but thanks anyway .

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Test.
3. If the above steps don't resolve the problem, please describe it in more detail.

Safari 2.0.4 crashes 100% of the time on a Whitebook

My friend who is 12,00 miles away reports that her Safari will not launch and after the first time when it actually admitted to quitting unexpectedly, no longer says anything to excuse itself.
She's using a Whitebook single core OSX 10.4.10
I've done as much as I can via Skype. We've tried:

She can't find any files called "com.apple.Foundation" or "com.apple.CoreFoundation" to remove.
3. She's having repeated issues with iTunes after EVERY upgrade. Her iTunes Library" always disappears. The crashing Safari started after the latest update of iTunes and launching iTunes now gives the dialogue
"The file "iTunes Library" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes Library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged) 1"" .... talk about grammatically challenged!
4. We've tried dragging the com.apple.safari.plist to the desktop exercise and it didn't work.

Those entries from the crash thread indicate the Safari cache is corrupt. Go to the Home folder of the regular user account>Library>Caches. There, move the Safari folder to the trash, then restart Safari.
Regarding iTunes, that's best asked in the iTunes forum.

There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.

Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. How do i stop Safari from freezing while i'm surfing the internet?

Every time I go onto Safari, it doesn't respond after i search for something on google or go on Facebook. now, i have to use Safari in Safe Mode each time and the audio is disabled so i can't watch or listen to music videos. Maybe try another browser like Firefox.
Also, try creating a new user account on your mac, and log in to that, to see if you continue to have the same problems.
