Word and PPT problems

Hi out there,
I have a new Mac book pro and I've been having trouble w/ Microsoft Word and PPT. Of late, more often then not when I try to open Word I get a couple of following messages:
There has been an error in setting up Microsoft Framework Library (this happened in PPT as well) and I also get this message. "Word cannot start the converter "Word Open XML". Then I get an odd page overtop of Word made up of thick pale blue and white lines. These go on to infinity, the page has no ending or beginning.
Also my PPT is now affected and I am getting weird messages on it. It shuts down and doesn't save what I've done. I have a presentation I am trying to make for tomorrow and this is not letting me do it.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Office which helped for a little while.

Since this forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office, you should really consider posting issues with Office on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products as they would be focused more toward the issue than an Apple forum and there are Microsoft appointed MVPs there to assist.

    Click on the Windows icon to enter the Metro interface. Put the cursor to the lower left and click on the arrow. Find the app you want to pin and then right click it. You should see a similar situation as in the following image. Now choose pin to start. Yours should say Pin to start.

  • In 10.6.4, Word and PPt will not open in Pages, Keynote

    I posted similar messages under Keynote and Pages, but I wonder if this is in fact a Snow Leopard 10.6.4 problem. I recently I clean installed MacOS 10.6 and reinstalled iWorks'09 on my laptop. I am running the latest version of Snow Leopard (Combo10.6.4) and iWorks'09 (9.0.3), but I can no longer open Word .doc or .docx files in Pages, nor can I open .ppt or .pptx files in Keynote. In Keynote, the progress bar gets about 1/3 across and just stays there, whereas in Pages, it just states that the document could not be opened. I need this ability for my work - PLEASE HELP!

    After reinstalling the system software and the Combo10.6.4 update, reinstalling iWorks'09 and the 9.0.3 update, I repaired the permissions using the Snow Leopard installation disk and now Word .docx and PowerPoint .pptx open fine.

  • E-mail merge with Word and Outlook problem

    I'm trying to do an e-mail merge with Office 2011: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    Before you start typing, I've already searched the web, searched the Apple forums, and posted to the Microsoft forum, with no success.
    Anyway: I have outlook configured to send and receive mail from a single Gmail account.
    Outlook works otherwise to send and receive mail.
    Outlook is set, in both Mail and Outlook, to be the default e-mail program.
    Everything seems to work fine until the final step, clicking the generate e-mail merge button that should send the mail merge to Outlook. The mail merge emails are supposed to appear in Outlook, but they don't.
    If you have figured out how to do this, please let me know.
    I would prefer to do this with Mail and Numbers, or Excel and Mail, but that functionality does not exist. I'm sure it would probably work if it did.
    I have a standalone mail merge app (MaxBulk Mailer) but I'd prefer to use the database I already have, which is in Excel, rather than have to create two databases, one in Excel, and another in MaxBulk. MaxBulk has some other problems as well and is not a great solution.

    Not sure if this is entirely the same issue but.... we just saw a very similar issue resolved here by my recommending that one of our mail merge-using faculty run the Outlook 2011 database rebuild utility (holding down option while starting Outlook 2011 for OSX).  Mail Merging from Excel 2011 mailing lists to Outlook 2011 starting working like a charm after that.
    The differences with our setup were that we were sending a mail merge via an Exchange Server, not GMail, and that this issue started after upgrading from 10.6 to 10.9 via the App Store.  Mail Merging had been working fine in 10.6.
    Worth a try?  Guard your backups and good luck!

  • I cannot open the word or PPT documents on windows explorer

    I have set up WD My Cloud on my Mac and PC (windows 7).
    I am having a problem when I am trying to remotely access the Word and PPT documents on PC (Windows explorer console)... when I double click on a specific word or PPT I get the message: "The server wdmycloud-device 2443682 wd2go is asking for your username and password. The server reports it is from Device Driver".  I fill in the My Cloud username and password in the pop-up window....but nothing happens?!??" I would highly appreciate any feedback.   

    This is a known issue. See the following WD Suupport link for more information. Microsoft Office documents in a device connected through WD My Cloud Remote Web Access cannot be opened The easy workaround to this issue is to use the WD My Cloud Desktop application to open the file into their Microsoft Office application, then edit, then save any Microsoft Office files that are already stored on the WD My Cloud. One obviously will have to copy the Microsoft Office files they want to work on to their WD My Cloud first. The following link, while for the WD My Book Live and from 2012, may (or may not) also work on the WD My Cloud but I have not tried it. It involves using SSH to setup the same username/password one uses on their Windows PC. I typically copy the content to the WD My Cloud then use the WD My Cloud Desktop app remotely to open, edit and save the document to the My Cloud drive. WD2go (webDAV) and MS Office 2013

    You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
    Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
    Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
    You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
    Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
    Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
    Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
    Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
    Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
    All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
    Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
    Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

    The 'Winmail.dat' problem has been extensively covered in these forums, I would search for that (a Google search works well) and unfortunately I have not seen the pdf print problem before, but assuming the software is current and functions normally (other than the pdf print problem) I have no suggestion other than the obvious (but time consuming) re-installation of Office.

  • Problems viewing dashboards in Word and PDF

    I use Xcelsius 2008, service pack 3 and when I export dashboards to Word and pdf others cannot open and view them.  I send them the files via email, some people can open and use, many cannot.  I have Windows XP sp3, and Office 2007.  This is a problem because some clients can open and use, others cannot.

        Craig is on the right track, it is most likely a Adobe Flash Player Version issue.
        Read the Supported Platform guide for Xcelsius 2008 SP3 for more details.

        Make sure they have Adobe Flash Player 9.0.151.0 and above installed.
        Another quick test they can do, see if they can open SWF file directly on their Internet Explorer. I doubt the issue is related to WORD or PDF at all.

    I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files.  They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
    However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
    Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
    Very strange.
    Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??

    Your iDisk is still accessible after moving to iCloud in exactly the same way as before. Nothing is deleted until June 30th 2012.

    No, you couldn't. Firstly, nothing was deleted from your iDisk. Secondly, any files stored on your iDisk should never be your only copy. Even if your iDisk spontaneously combusted, you should keep local backups elsewhere.

    Yes. Apple doesn't provide such a service anymore, nor are you paying them for it.
    Apple has made no effort to suggest remedies for the problem it has given iDisk users
    They've provided instructions on how to download your files from your iDisk. What you do with them after that is your choice.

  • Problems with black fills in live trace(d) eps images in Word and certain printers

    Hi folks, PLEASE help me with this if you know a possible solution. I regularly run Live Trace in Illustrator CS3 on my grayscale bmp or tiff scanned images, save them as an eps, then folks in other departments insert them into Microsoft Word pages. Sometimes these images display in Word with unintended black fills, and some printers print them out with the same corrupted appearance, yet some other printers print them fine (even if the display in Word shows them with the unintended black fills). I THINK this might be a postscript issue (?). I don't have the option of telling everyone to change from Word to InDesign (which would absolutely solve the problem immediately). Is there something I can set while performing Live Trace? They really need the eps files, so I don't have the option of saving them as another format. HELP! Thanks...

    I use Mac at home and love it. At work, we use PC platform. I can't save as a pdf because they need to stay vector graphics. he departments want us to save the eps in version 8 because they're STILL using Windows 2003 (ugh). I keep thinking there must be something I can do while in Live Trace because we've never noticed any inintended black fills in graphics not created using Live Trace. Somehow, Word and some printers are not interpreting some postscript language correctly. InDesign has zero issues with it. Some printers have no problem with it, so I assume they are postscript printers. There's got to be a way I can still save as an eps but without the postscript conflict (IF that's what it is).

    I can’t just export to word as I have done in the past in one simple click.  
    Convert to button is greyed out.
    Now I have to save the pdf file on c drive when I am in outlook…then goto export pdf file…then find file then export to word.
    I bought new computer with windows 8 (which is awful) and then bought pdf export again…
    Any thoughts on how I can get back to one simple click again when I open a pdf file from an email in outlook?

  • OWA - "Sorry, we ran into a problem" when openingen word and pdfs

    Hi,
    I have a weird problem similar to
    this one where office web apps will not open my word and pdfs on my SharePoint server. Other documents like excel and powerpoint are working just fine. I'm running SP1+ on both SP2013 and OWA server.
    When I open a word or pdf document it opens my document in view mode and displays this error aswell:
    It works fine in other browser such as Google Chrome and also if I change emulation mode to IE9.
    If I check the debugging of the site I get this error:
    Object doesn't support property or method 'selectSingleNode'
    My site is added to the local intranet zone.
    The problem is only located on our a new Citrix farm. If I compare the IE security settings and the local Intranet zone with my own client that also runs IE11 the settings are the same. However it works fine on my own machine. IF I choose to Reset my Internet
    Explorer settings it works also until I log off Citrix completely and back on.
    Any idea on what settings causes this behavior?

    Check if your IE Is 32 bit or 64 bit.
    Also check Office installed on system is 32 bit or 64 bit
