Word insert pdf object problem

Adobe 8.1 and Word 2003 sp3 are installed on XP64 box.
From word, when we do insert > object > Adobe Acrobat Document (Create New) we get the error: This object was created in AcroExch. This application is not available to open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed and that it has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.
If instead we do: insert > object > Adobe Acrobat Document (Create From File): All we get is an Acrobat icon, we should get an image of the document.
Please help, we have exhausted all possible solutions from this forum and the internet.

I know this is an od post but we have been experiencing the same problem since rolling out reader 9.3 on PCs that did not have a previous version of the Adobe Reader.
Found the solution was some missing registry entries (below)...  Hope it may help someone.

  • Word pdf object problem

    Acrobat Pro 9.1/Word 2007/WXP
    I have multiple users who are unable to open embeded PDF objects in a word document.  When they click the icon, they get "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is not installed on your computer...".  This problem didnt appear until we upgraded everyone to v9 but I cant say for sure they were embedding pdfs prior to that.
    I have repaired Office 2007, reinstalled Acrobat Pro, confirmed that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\Open\command really is pointing to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "%1" and that that app does run.  The users are able to open the actual PDF files.  Other PDFs embeded on the same document work.  This is not limited to just one PDF either, there are multiple embeded PDFs that are not working.  I have also noticed that sometimes the embeded PDF will open once, then if you close it and reopen it, Word gives you the same error.  How it can work one time and then tell me the it can find AcroExch the next I dont understand.  Ive also tried to open some of these documents with Reader 9 installed on a clean test PC and they do the same thing.
    I considered the possibility that the doc was somehow corrupt but inserting the PDF into a new document has the same result.  Any ideas why it would tell me AcroExch is not installed regardless of whether Acrobat Pro or Reader is actually installed and why some embeded PDFs would work and some wouldnt?  If a reinstall of both Office and Acrobat doesnt fix this and it occurs on a clean install, how do I fix it?
    Any help is appreciated.
    *** Update***
    It would appear that if I open those specific PDFs in Pro, resave them, then reembed them in Word, this problem does not occur.  After inquiring further, those specific PDFs where created via a Sharpdesk scan from copier to PDF feature.  Why they can be opened with Reader/Pro directly but cant be opened as embeded PDFs in word without being resaved I dont know.

    I'm still having this problem.
    I've updated to 10.1.0, I've tried unchecking the "Enable Startup" option, I've tried the advanced option one where I select Adobe 10.1.0 as my default.
    I still can't embed a PDF in a word document and receive the same error as when we had Adobe 9.
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheryl

  • Unable to insert pdf object into 64-bit Word 2010

    I have always been able to insert pdf files into word documents.  However, when I upgraded to the 64-bit version of Word, I started experiencing the below issue.
    My setup is: Windows 7 64-bit, Word 2010 64-bit, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro v9.4.7.
    When I attempt to insert a pdf file into Word, I receive the following message:
    "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.  To edit this object, install AcroExch or ensure that any dialog boxes in AcroExch are closed."
    I have researched this issue a great deal.
    Previously, I found a posting which specified some registry keys to delete.  I followed these directions and it worked.  But, after installing some updates, the issue is back and I am unable to find the post specifying the registry keys to remove.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Brandon

    Solution:
    Open Adobe Reader / Pro
    Go to Edit àPreferenceà General (LHS)àUncheck “Enable protected mode at startup”.
    Adobe Reader’s protected mode will be disabled
    Now try inserting Adobe document in Word, it will work.

  • Unable to insert pdf object into ppt or word

    I am unable to insert a pdf object into Word or Powerpoint.  I have Adobe Reader 9.3 and Windows 7 MS Office 2010 64 bit.   Previously, I was able to perform this task without issue with the same software.
    For word, I get:
    "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.  The edit this object install AcroExch or ensure that any dialog boxes in AcroExch are closed".
    For Powerpoint, I get:
    "The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an unknown error.   You mayneed to reinstall the server application."
    Was an update sent out that may have caused the issue?
    Or is there a solution to resolve the issue?  The ony solution I have sound is Disabling Protect Mode which does not apply to this version of Reader.
    Any help would be greately appreciated.  Thank you.

    There is another thread on this and seems to be an ongoing issue with neither Microsoft nor Adobe owning up to it.  What I did to work-around the issue is create a .zip file of the .pdf file which can then be put into the workd doc as an object file icon.  Worked for me.  Not the best solution but this has been ongoing since 2011, and this worked.

  • Acrobat 8.1.6 and Word 2007 - PDF printing problem

    I have a weird problem with printing a word 2007 document to the Adobe PDF printer (distiller). I hope someone can help with this.
    My two-page Word document has a background color, text, text boxes and two imported images (both under 500kb). Now, the problem is two-fold:
    If the 'print background color' option is disabled (unchecked), the PDF looks okay, but the background color vanishes as does text within text boxes (the text boxes themselves appear fine).
    If the 'print background color' option is enabled, the PDF shows only the background color, but no text!
    In either case, the PDF generation takes an unusually long time.
    I tried to follow the advices given in other threads, and looked for the presence of Acrotray.exe (it was present during the process). I also tried printing the document to a file (.prn), renaming the extension to .ps, and double-clicking it to send the job to distiller - every time with the same result.
    I must mention that if I use Word 2007's own 'Save to PDF' feature, it generates a clean PDF without any problem. It is only the Acrobat Distiller that is giving me endless grief. Can someone knowledgeable please help me with this issue?

    I have an update. This is even weirder. It turns out that after I generate the PDF and only the background color shows up, I can use the Touch Up Object tool to select the entire page (by clicking anywhere in the colored area), and press 'delete'. If I do this, parts of the background color gets deleted, revealing the text underneath - including the background color!!!!! And doing this repeatedly, I can remove this strange 'overshadow' and find everything (image, text, text box) intact underneath. I can do the same to the text box, and eventually, the missing text appears there.
    I, of course, have to do this for every single page!
    In summary, it is almost as if my text and images are being covered by a sheet with the same color as the background, which I am then removing part by part - with each stroke of the delete key - much like opening a . Strangely, this happens for each page except the last page (which prints fine - with images and texts etc.)
    Does anyone have a clue about this?
    Update: I hadn't seen the replies from Bill and Lori when I posted this. Thank you both for replying! I do think that the problem is with transparency, given what I found out just now (written here). However, I have tried different PDF settings, standard and high quality (this is the one I normally use), and yet I have had the same issue!

  • Word to PDF conversion problems

    When I create a PDF from a Word document, several files are generated (instead of one) before and after landscape pages within a large document.   How can I avoid this so that only one PDF is generated?  I get an error saying that the footers are outside the printable area, however, I don't have any problems physically printing the document and the print preview looks fine.

    One way would be to use Apple's way (instead of Microsoft's way) of creating a PDF file from Microsoft Word.
    Try creating it this way:
    While in Microsoft Word, when ready to create a PDF, go to File > Print and instead of printing, click the "PDF" button in the lower left, then click "Save as PDF" from the resulting dropdown.

  • Word to PDF display problem

    We're using Adobe Professional 8 and Microsoft Word 2003. I've never run into this before and can't figure out how to remedy it. I converted a multipage Word document to a PDF, however on one of the pages of the PDF, information from the top of page 6 displays at the bottom of page 5. The Word document displays perfectly when opened. I've tried moving the content a little further down the page in the Word document, and then reconverting it to a PDF---but that same page still displays incorrectly. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to display correctly, but I've run out of ideas. Incidentally, the information "bleeding over" is not in a header, even though the document does contain a header.
    Thanx to all for any and all help and suggestions!! I really appreciate it.

    As graffiti indicated, you have to make the change in WORD. This is not an Acrobat issue, but a WORD "feature". Actually, most word processors do the reflow that you are seeing as the printer is changed. This is called using printer metrics. This feature is one of the differences between word processors and layout programs. You would like get the same results if you changed from one physical printer to another. This had long given my problems with forms that folks develop in WORD. When they push the margin limits, it often runs off the page when I look at it.

  • Converting Word to pdf. Problem with page breaks

    I have Office 2007 and I am trying to convert a 100 page word document into pdf.  However, the pages are breaking different and I end up with more pages in the pdf document which causes problems with my table of contents and index.  Any advice on how to convert the Word doc exactly into pdf?  Thanks

    Michael's reponse is correct. However, as far as I knew, OFFICE 2007 came with printer metrics turned off, meaning it is not supposed to be sensitive to the printer selection. The setting is buried in the options list for compatibility. If it is turned off and a change in printer does affect the result, it would appear just one more of the many things in OFFICE 2007 that MS messed up. The latest one for me has been helping students with the messed up equation editor when you want to add equation numbers in a "standard" way. One of the MS employees even wrote a workaround macro for that problem.

  • Inserting pdf files in word for mac

    For the life of me I can't figure out how to insert pdf files in my word for mac document. I can insert the first page of the file by inserting it as an object but can't figure out how to insert the entire document.
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    It actually isn't an odd thing to do. I have been working on a word document - a final report - for a client. I need to add several pdf files as part of the appendices. If I was printing off only a hard copy, I would simply print the pdf file and add them to the end of the report. However, my clients require that the entire document include all the appendices - on one document - to make it simple for anyone who needs to see the final report. I also need to mention that the pdf file is translated document in Inukutuk and I cannot simply copy it and then insert it as the fonts will not translate properly. Complicated I know.... When I insert the document only the first page of the 45 page Inuk document is inserted.
    The pdf files came to me from the translators and I don't know what kind of pdf file it is - I can't tell.
    Not sure if that is helpful or not...
    thanks.

    Hello Allan,
    It looks like that functionality is not included within the Report Generation Toolkit.  It is possible to produce the desired behavior through ActiveX commands.  I was able to create some sample code that successfully inserted a multipage RTF file into a report.  I did this by using the Word._Document reference to generate a Word.Range reference.  The Range reference has an InsertFile method.  This seems to input the file at the proper location.
    Could you give this a try and let me know how it goes?
    Also, just so you know, you are using an unsupported configuration of MS Office and LabVIEW.  Most of the functionality should work, but there might be some glitches.

  • Problems with tablesalignment (from Word to PDF)

    Hello,
    Ive downloaded the trialversion of Acrobat because our company needs to make little pdf's out of 40/50 documents and i want to try what program is best for our...
    The thing is: i just cant get the tables right (sry for my bad english ) This problem exist with: Docx, doc, pdf, etc. etc.
    When i have a table, with the upper standardscellsalignment set to 0,1 cm. The tables get messed up when i export it to an PDF. However, when i print it, its normal !!! (???)
    The most upper horizontale lines are gone and the vertical connections arent any good.
    I tried every setting, but i just cant seem to find whats wrong. I also tried 4 other programs, but same problems (also the standard saveoption in word: save word to pdf makes the same error.
    There are 2 weird (part)-solutions: when i dissable the upper standard cell alignment in the table, so set to 0, and then save.... and the problem is gone (but i really need this upper cell alignment).
    Other solution: When i dissable all the collours in the table, it is (almost) oke, but not completly. (but this isnt an option also)
    I inserted  some pictures to give you the full view:
    Picture 1: on the left you see the result when i save it with word tot pdf acrobat, on the right you see the originaldocument.
    Picture 2: An closeup of the problems with the lines.
    Picture 3: The settings in Word, what is causing the problem
    Thank you in advance!

  • Problem indexings hyphenized words in PDFs

    Hello everyone on this forum
    In the new site we are building, I am using Oracle Text to implement the search functionality.
    I have problems indexings hyphenized words in PDFs.
    The code I used to create the content table and the Oracle Text index, is like follows
    CREATE TABLE JMMC_TST_OracleText( article_id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY
    , desc VARCHAR2(30)
    , doc BLOB DEFAULT empty_blob()
    COMMIT ;
    I populated the doc column from a database column in our CMS, containing a PDF document. Just for testing, also populated it from a PDF file, using TOAD for Oracle 8.6.
    EXEC CTX_DDL.create_preference( 'jmmc_BSJC_lexer2', 'BASIC_LEXER' );
    EXEC CTX_DDL.SET_ATTRIBUTE( 'jmmc_BSJC_lexer2', 'SKIPJOINS', '-' );
    EXEC CTX_DDL.SET_ATTRIBUTE( 'jmmc_BSJC_lexer2', 'CONTINUATION', '-' );
    CREATE INDEX JMMC_TST_INDEX
    ON JMMC_TST_OracleText( doc )
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS ( 'LEXER jmmc_BSJC_lexer2
    STOPLIST CTXSYS.EMPTY_STOPLIST' );
    COMMIT ;
    The following sql
    select ctx_report.describe_index('JMMC_TST_INDEX') from dual ;
    SELECT err_timestamp, err_text
    FROM ctx_user_index_errors
    ORDER BY err_timestamp DESC;
    shows that indexing went without errors, and index was correctly created.
    The word: processo
    (that in the PDF is hyphenized visually as
    ........... pro-
    cesso .....
    ) is indexed as 2 tokens instead of just one token, as the following sql shows
    select token_text
    from dr$JMMC_TST_INDEX$i
    where UPPER(token_text) = UPPER('CESSO')
    or UPPER(token_text) = UPPER('PRO') ;
    The following query returns 1 result
    SELECT SCORE(1), article_id , doc
    FROM JMMC_TST_OracleText
    WHERE CONTAINS( doc, 'pro cesso', 1) > 0 ;
    The following query returns 0 results
    SELECT SCORE(1), article_id , doc
    FROM JMMC_TST_OracleText
    WHERE CONTAINS( doc, 'processo', 1) > 0 ;
    Strange thing is, several months ago I tried this test with the same PDF, and everything went by without any problem.
    The tests were done on different machines, and on both occasions I used Oracle 10.1.0.5.0.
    Looks like I'm overlooking something or maybe some obscure setting (of DB, server or system) is causing the problem.
    Suddenly hyphenized words in PDFs, stopped being indexed correctly.
    Searched in the manuals and in this forum, and could not find a solution. Any help from anyone in this forum ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everybody on this forum
    As the initiator of this thread, I am glad that after some months, someone else is looking at this issue.
    To add/clear to the confusion, I have followed Roger Ford suggestion.
    Here’s the test I ran
    1) Created a minimal test file (using Windows Notepad) with the following content:
    ABC-
    DEF
    Hex view of above file is:
    41 42 43 2D 0D 0A 44 45 46 00
    A B C - . . D E F .
    2) Created test table
    CREATE TABLE JMMC_TST_OracleText(
    article_id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY
    , fmt VARCHAR2(30)
    , doc BLOB DEFAULT empty_blob()
    The main difference to Roger Ford test case is: my content column is a BLOB instead of a VARCHAR2.
    The reason why my doc column is a BLOB, is because the site I’m building, content come from our CMS, and has different types both text and binary (eg Word, PDFs, etc), that I need to index together.
    So I use a mixed-content column in a materialized view, to prepare/consolidate/hold all contents I index.
    3) I inserted 1 row in above table (using TOAD for Oracle 8.6.), putting my minimal test file in the doc column.
    4) Create Preferences and Index
    EXEC CTX_DDL.create_preference( 'jmmc_BSJC_lexer2', 'BASIC_LEXER' );
    EXEC CTX_DDL.SET_ATTRIBUTE( 'jmmc_BSJC_lexer2', 'SKIPJOINS', chr(45) );
    EXEC CTX_DDL.SET_ATTRIBUTE( 'jmmc_BSJC_lexer2', 'CONTINUATION', chr(45) );
    COMMIT;
    CREATE INDEX JMMC_TST_INDEX
    ON JMMC_TST_OracleText( doc )
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS ( 'LEXER jmmc_BSJC_lexer2
    FILTER CTXSYS.AUTO_FILTER
    STOPLIST CTXSYS.EMPTY_STOPLIST
    FORMAT COLUMN fmt' );
    COMMIT;
    Note: the basic lexer SKIPJOINS and CONTINUATION characters, were set the same as the hyphen character used in test file.
    5) Tokens indexed:
    select token_text from dr$JMMC_TST_INDEX$i
    Shows:
    ABC
    DEF
    6) Filter indexed content and generate a plaintext version:
    create table JMMC_filtertab (
    query_id number
    , document clob
    commit ;
    begin
    ctx_doc.filter( 'JMMC_TST_INDEX', '1', 'JMMC_filtertab', '11', TRUE);
    end;
    Hex view of plaintext version is:
    41 42 43 2D 20 20 44 45 46 00
    A B C - D E F .
    Note that the original end-of-line chars (0D 0A) were replaced by 2 SPACES.
    It looks like the filter replaces end-of-line chars by SPACES, and feeds the lexer, with something like:
    ABC- DEF (instead of: ABC-DEF) ;
    So the poor lexer, sees 2 tokens and has no clue they originally were only one hyphenised token.
    This is consistent with what Meta Link Note 124624.1 - Intermedia Text & Continuation Character ('-') in PDF says.
    7) Just for comparison the result of Roger Ford test (using a VARCHAR column instead of a BLOB) is:
    Hex view of the filtered plaintext version is:
    61 62 63 2D 0D 0A 64 65 66 00
    a b c - . . d e f .
    So the main difference seems to be different filtering behaviour for BLOB or VARCHAR columns, in dealing with end-of-line chars.
    I have also tried other combinations of INDEX/LEXER preferences (i.e. SKIPJOINS/CONTINUATION/FILTER/NEWLINE,etc), and different file types (WORD,PDF) which means I also tested with “true binary content” and different end-of-line chars.
    No matter what I tried, results were all the same: if I index a BLOB column, I’m not able to index hyphenized lines correctly.
    According to the manuals, the CTXSYS.AUTO_FILTER were supposed to deal correctly with mixed-content columns if given the correct information (ie FORMAT COLUMN)
    Hope this triggers a response from someone.
    Thanks to all the people that took time to look at this problem.

  • OWA - "Sorry, we ran into a problem" when openingen word and pdfs

    Hi,
    I have a weird problem similar to
    this one where office web apps will not open my word and pdfs on my SharePoint server. Other documents like excel and powerpoint are working just fine. I'm running SP1+ on both SP2013 and OWA server.
    When I open a word or pdf document it opens my document in view mode and displays this error aswell:
    It works fine in other browser such as Google Chrome and also if I change emulation mode to IE9.
    If I check the debugging of the site I get this error:
    Object doesn't support property or method 'selectSingleNode'
    My site is added to the local intranet zone.
    The problem is only located on our a new Citrix farm. If I compare the IE security settings and the local Intranet zone with my own client that also runs IE11 the settings are the same. However it works fine on my own machine. IF I choose to Reset my Internet
    Explorer settings it works also until I log off Citrix completely and back on.
    Any idea on what settings causes this behavior?
    Thanks

    Check if your IE Is 32 bit or 64 bit.
