Workbooks & Batch Sceduling

I am looking into Discoverer for Ad-hoc reporting and have two questions.( I did not look at the tool yet, i just looked at the demo)
1. I read in the white paper that the sceduling works with oracles scheduler.
How will the scheduling work in Non-oracle databases?.
2. Also how are workbooks handled using the database??
null

1. You will need to use a native scheduler in a non-oracle database.
2.I presume you mean how are workbooks scheduled? The results are stored in a temporary table. When the user opens the scheduled workbook the summarised data is read from the temporary table and the formatting, sorting, etc is applied.

  • RPAS MFP workbook formatting after batch run

First, let me apologize as I am new to RPAS.
During our weekly batch run, workbooks are generated, but we must manually reformat the workbooks, all the tabs and profiles and is very time consuming.
Where would I start my education to understand how to automate this part of the process?

    Hi AP,
    Welcome to SDN!!!
    Theorethically it should work:
Create a structure in rows with 2 selections, Text1 & Text2; a structure in columns with 3 selections, Col1, Col2 & Col3. All selections are just having provided descriptions, without any chars or KFs.
Using cell editor you can define all needed formulas and descriptions for particular cells.

  • Add workbooks to a batch run during night?

    Hello there,
I have some workbooks. I would like to add these workbooks to a batchrun during night, so when i come next morning the batcrun already have calculated the workbooks. I want it to do it with a proces chain. I have heared that it is possible with the report agent. Can somebody help me?Ik would like to know how to do it.

    Hi,
In 3.5 you can precalculate workbooks within tcode rsprecadmin. For this a Bex precalulation service has to be defined (Basis has to arrang this).
In 7.0 you can scheduling for workbook precalculation via the broadcasting scenario.

  • How to export all workbook in files using a batch procedure

    Hello to everybody,
can anybody help me in this issue?
I have many workbooks stored on the database and I would like to create a procedure that I can schedule and that backup the workbooks into files.
Do you know if exists an utility for this scope?
    Thanks a lot,
    Have a nice day
    Roberto

There is a command line interface with the Administration Edition
that allows you do select which items are exported, based on the
    command switches you provide.
See the Discoverer Administration Guide, there's an appendix that
deals with all the command line options.

  • Error while running a Discoverer Workbook with parameter from command line

I am trying to run a discoverer report from command line and export the results in xls on to my local machine. I could do it fine for a simple workbook, but if I add a parameter(madatory) to the workbook and run it from command line specifying the parameter value I wanted to run the report for, I do not get any results. Here is the command line I am using.
    dis51usr.exe /connect user/password@database /apps_user /apps_responsibility "System Administrator" /eul EUL_US /open C:\Disco\Test.DIS /sheet Testsheet /parameter Period Jan-07 /export xls C:\Disco\X.xls /batch
Parameter value is entered in correct format(Jan-07).
When I removed /batch from this to see if I get any error, Discoverer Desktop opened up, logged in and gets terminated saying 'Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and need to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
Did anybody come across this issue before?

    Hello,
If you have a few minutes, Windows is also aborting for me:
the differences are, my situation is:
    a) am running the command line from a .bat file
    b) am NOT running with parms, want the discoverer query to come up for the user
    c) am running a query from the database
i am signing in as myself BUT running a query that was created by a generic user called SREG
    c) if i run the .bat file from Windows Explorer, the query opens fine
    d) if i execute the .bat file from within Microsoft Access using the shell command,
the query opens and then aborts RIGHT BEFORE the parm screen would display
    e) btw, if i modify the .bat file, to run a query from MY database signon, then (d) - running .bat file
from vb using SHELL command works
Do you have a ideas as to why (d) does not work? I would be very grateful for your time, tx, sandra
this is what i posted yesterday, tx: Re: Running Discoverer command line

  • DTW batch import problem

    Hi all,
I've got a problem when trying to batch import from sql statement via odbc:
"Can not connect to ODBC data source" and then "Can not get SQL handler"
Manual import is working well with this odbc connection !
The statement looks like: SELECT ItemCode AS 'Record Key', ItemCode, 'Y' AS 'Properties1' FROM OITM WHERE ItemCode = '4711'
While manually importing I saved the xml and after that call: dtw.exe -s config.xml
I used a SQL (Server 2005) Native Client DSN and only set db auth (sa...) and left other properties as default
Anybody knows this behavior? Is the statement wrong? Or the odbc connection?
    (DTW Version 2005.0.0.29)
    Thanks in advance
    Marco
Edited by: Marco Willems on Jun 29, 2010 6:34 PM

    Hi Marco,
I checked this issue using the 2007A DTW (version 2005.0.30) and the 8.8 DTW (version 88.0.11). I haven't had success.
The 8.8 version runs without error but did'nt update my test item. If you run it manually, the DTW reports one updated value. If I run it by a command (DTW -S <File>) it runs fine and reports zero successful update.
I don't know if the DTW is able to run sceduled ODBC updates or not and would hope for an answer to this thread!
    All the best

  • Schedule workbook using with Unix shell script

    Hi,
Can we schedule workbook using with Unix shell script?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    I can't imagine how.
    1. You can schedule Disco workbooks via Disco itself.
    2. You can schedule Disco workbooks to run and output in different file formats automatically via batch scheduler in Windows running Disco Desktop directly (or can user VBasic).
    3. You can schedule Disco workbooks to run and output in different file formats automatically via a Java program running the Java Command Line interface.
Moving forward, Oracle has announced that with a further interfacing of Disco with XML Publisher, you'll be able to use Oracle Apps concurrent manager and scheduling. But that's coming supposedly at the end of this year.
And I think that's about it.

    Hi
is their any way to send emails automatically from discoverer 4i, the results of the scheduled workbooks!

    -Seetha

    Hello,
I have the same requirement .. I need to email dicoverer report to about 40 - 50 clients. I need to pass the clients name as paramter to the workbook and send the report output to the corresponding client.
Can some body please tell me how this can be done using batch file. Is it possible to pass parameters to workbooks and run the disc report from the batch file.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Running workbook output to excel/word

    I'm new to Discoverer.
Is there any way I can run a workbook in Discoverer Viewer 4i, and place the output in a word or excel document without opening Discoverer Viewer in the browser ? Maybe using the command-line tool ? (looking in the reference document just dosn't give me a clue if it is possible)
The end-user has a report in Discoverer Viewer, and a word-document where they registrer information that they don't want registrered in the database. The trick is to mix these two documents into one word- or excel-document, and in a very simple way for the end user.
It could also be the other way around, meaning Discoverer getting the information from the word-document and including that in the Discoverer workbook, but I don't think that is possible.
    Can anybody help me ?

    Hi
The answer is yes you can do this through a command line interface. The basic syntax you need is:
    c:\orant\discvr4\dis4usr.exe /connect username/password@database /opendb workbook_name /batch /sheet worksheet_name /export format_type file_location_name
All of this is typed as one command. To help you more with the commands here is an example that opens a workbook called my_book, runs a worksheet called my_sheet, and exports to excel format as a file called my_file.xls in my c:\temp folder. It connects as a user called scott using password tiger to a database called my_database:
    c:\orant\discvr4\dis4usr.exe /connect scott/tiger@my_database /opendb my_book /batch /sheet my_sheet /export xls c:\temp\my_file.xls
The option /batch tells Discoverer to run in batch mode and show no output on the screen. To use this option you must use /export or /print otherwise you will get an error.
Note: in the above examples if you have installed Discoverer into somewhere other than c:\orant you must insert your location. The above examples are also for the Desktop version of Discoverer. In order to use the 4i browser version I believe it is possible but I think you need to be patched up to 4.1.48 first.
For more help on the command line interface may I refer you to pages 420 to 426 of my Oracle Discoverer Handbook.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Batch clean up Word HTML

I need to clean up some HTML generated by saving an Excel workbook as a web page.  The Dreamweaver command "Clean Up Word HTML" seems to do a good job.  The problem is that I've got 80-odd pages to clean.  Doing this page-by-page is somewhat laborious, but I can't find any way of doing them all in batch.  Does anyone know how this might be possible?
    Cheers

    No.

  • Scheduling workbooks using the command line

Hi, can anyone tell me if it's possible to schedule workbooks in Discoverer using the command line interface? If so, could you point me in the direction of any relevant documentation?
We've got 300+ reports to schedule on a regular basis and it would be useful if we had different options to schedule the workbooks e.g. for batch processing.
    Thanks and regards
    Geoff Butler

Inspired by your MacOS fix, I went looking to see if their was an easier Windows fix than my 'Repair Bonjour' process. Turns out there might be.
In the Bonjour 'Program Files' folder, there is an application named 'mDNSResponder.exe' which brings up a DOS dialog. After running this application and then opening iTunes, I had a stable AppleTV-iTunes connection through the evening until I put my computer to sleep.
I haven't done any thorough testing around this (the kind that Apple should have done before releasing iTunes 7.6), but it does seem to at least temporarily resolve the issue until iTunes is closed again. What would be nice is if this works without having to restart a faulty iTunes session (which the 'Repair' fix doesn't).

  • Discover Desktop Batch /pt command - what to put in 'driver'?

I need to use the Discoverer Desktop batch command option /pt rather than /p because my server seems to keep losing my default printer selection. So the /pt option allows me to specify which printer. Great!
But /pt requires me to specify printer (good), driver (???), and port (no problem). I have no idea what I should specify for driver or where I'd find that information (Windows). Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Hi
First thing to mention is that the workbook has to be saved to the file system in order to use /p or /pt.
You can find the printer, driver and port information from the windows Start button by Start | Settings | Printers and Faxes (if working in Classic mode) or by using Start | Printers and Faxes (if operating in non-Classic mode).
From there you right-click on the printer you want to work with and select Properties from the pop-up list.
From the General tab you can get the printer name, from the Ports tab you can get the port and from the Advanced tab you can get the driver name.
    Hope this helps
    Best wishes
