Workflow for upgrading - 2G to 3GS

here's my understanding of a workable arrangement to upgrade
(please advise):
a. about an hour before I actually hand off my 2G - hit the settings/ general/ reset/ erase all content and settings
b. buyer wants to know this phone works to make actual phone calls - he cant put in his SIM card because there's no association
c. how does the buyer establish the phone works to make calls ?

I asked Apple - its not doable. You cant just plug any (known working) SIM card into any iPhone and expect this to work. I guess electronic association is a necessary precursor. When selling the iPhone, its not something I would up to hang around for.
Ive also learned that after the "erase all settings and contents" - the phone will no longer display the base set of icons - but will only display the emergency phone call kind of graphic.
Just in case anyone is following this thread - buyers are having to take it on faith that the device "will work". Fortunately, Ive recieved many emails of interest - I dont think this will be a big problem.

Since I have the bestbuy(canada) exclange plan, I can exchange my 3g 8Gb for 16gb 3gs since I paid $200 for the 3g. They will give me a brand new 3gs only if theres a problem with my iphone 3g, unfortunately thers none but I wouldnt mind to lie for a new iphone 3gs, I dont know waht to tell them. Help?

hm...I don't think the exchange policy covers accidental damage but if you bought it on May 11th why buy it then? If You would have known that Apple releases a new iphone every year around June then you would have waited. I usually tell my friends that too, if it's around January, I tell them to wait until June for the next generation is coming out and not to waste their money on the previous generation or the current generation.
As far as I can say, I can't do anything about it, but give them an explanation telling them your battery is messed up.

I recently upgraded my iphone 3GS to the new ioS 5.1. After I did this and synced my phone, it won't let me play any audio from apps, itunes or music. It will allow the phone to ring but that is all. When I use viber I have to press this button and change it from docking to iphone. I take it that the phone thinks I'm permanently on a docking system.
It also will not sync my music back to my phone. My music is on itunes but it won't let it sync.
I have restored my phone twice and it still won't work - HELP!! Please???

Your device is broken. If you want a device that works better than the one you have now, then you'll either need to bring your phone into Apple for out of warranty exchange ($149), or find a 3rd party repair shop in your area and see what they can do, if anything at all.

How to schedule a workflow for recurring executions: The solution

Scheduling a workflow for recurring execution has been long awaited in WFA, perhaps from 2.0 time. The following document shows how to get it done. I've also explained the logic behind it. It’s very simple to use, meets every requirement which one can have from a scheduler and of course highly flexible. Let's go!! The Real stuff. What is this? Is this actually a scheduler? No. This is actually a command in your workflow, but a special 'magical' command. This 'magical' command logic is built using the answers for the following questions: Can a workflow be scheduled for a delayed execution in a future time? Yes, but only one execution instance. If you want the next execution, execute the workflow again providing the same set of inputs and the execution date/time.During workflow execution, can a command inside a workflow get to know what is the name of the workflow? YesDuring workflow execution, can the command know what is the job execution id? YesIs there any programmatic interface available to know what are the user input provided or a particular job execution? YesCan a command inside a workflow trigger another workflow? Yes.Can a command inside the same workflow trigger itself? Absolutely yes. I've ticked all boxes needed to build such a solution. The solution is to make the workflow a smart workflow, so smart that it can schedule itself for the next execution. It no longer needs any other task scheduler to tigger it. WFA provides a large set of REST APIs for other 3rd part SW integration. But I also can make good use of these APIs to make smart workflows. I have always believed that WFA should not only be seen as a framework for automating Storage boxes or server, but just about any task( inside a computer of course) which is done manually. WFA is an awesome product indeed. So this is a command called "Workflow Scheduler" which you can put in your workflow as another command. Prerequisites: You need PowerShell 3.0 on your WFA server. I certainly could have done it for PoSH2.0 as well, but life for web interfaces using PowerShell is so much easier with Posh3.0. Posh3.0 is a big jump from 2.0. WFA is fully supported to work on Posh3.0. Its available by default in Win2012, Win2008 can be upgraded, Win2003 users can't use it. Add credentials of a WFA Admin/Architect in you WFA itself with Name/IP: localhost Match: ExactType: OtherName/IP: localhostUsername: <WFA Admin/Architect Username>Password: <User Password> 3. Minimum WFA version 2.2. This is only needed for Importing the dar. I've provided the command code in text too. The command code is the real deal. How to use it? If you have a workflow which you want for recurring executions, just add this command "Workflow Scheduler" in it. The command takes parameters for the workflow execution intervals. For example minsInterval for executing this workflow every x minutes, or daysInterval for executing the workflow etc.Now just like a normal workflow execution execute this workflow deciding what is the trigger time. Example: Suppose you want the execution every day at 10:00 PM.So provide daysInterval = 1 And execute the workflow for a delayed execution at 10:00 PM. You can pick the day to start as you wish. The workflow will execute at 10:00 PM and when this execution reaches our magical command "workflow scheduler", this command will trigger the same workflow with same set of inputs for the next execution at 10:00 PM tomorrow. And so on an so forth. I’ve attached a very simple example workflow here to help you understand. An Example of a workflow scheduled for recurring execution Daily at 11:30 PM starting 10-March-2015 How to stop/suspend this recurring execution? Easy. You just abort the next scheduled job execution in Execution=> Execution Status. The cycle will stop. How to resume it? Easy again. Just resume the same aborted job. The cycle restarts. Can I change the schedule execution time? Yes. After aborting the current execution, you can resume the same workflow at a new time. Execution interval can't be modified as you can't change the command parameters. But the recurring execution now can occur at a new time. Where or which position to place this “workflow scheduler” command in your workflow? At the beginning ? At the end? Or somewhere in the middle. This completely depends on your choice. See some below cases. You don't want the next job execution scheduling to happen if any of the commands in my current workflow execution fails: Put command “workflow scheduler” in the end. It will trigger the schedule of the next job execution only when all real original commands of your workflow have passed. else not. You want continuous job executions irrespective of the workflow command failures: Put it in the beginning. It will trigger the schedule for next execution before any of the actual command begin executing. You want an approval before the next execution job is scheduled: Add an approval point before the comamnd. So it’s all left to you. Can an operator decide the execution schedule? Yes, but which workflows will be available to him/her for this recurring execution will have to be decided by the designer. This is a good thing to have as it serves for access control in a way. The Architect/Admin can now restrict which workflow can be put for recurring executions. Operators can’t execute just any workflow available to him for automatic recurring execution. And the workflow designer can also choose which scheduling parameter is to be made a variable for the operator. For example the designer want the operator to schedule a given workflow only for weeks Interval and not months or days i.e. he/she can only chose to schedule for weekly, biweekly etc. executions and nothing else. For this the designer can define a User-Input variable only for weeksInterval parameter. It’s Done. You want workflow execution to be scheduled either for daily or once in 2 days but not any other. You can restrict this. Or he/she wants to give full freedom to the operator make his/her own decision about scheduling, he defined user-input variable for all scheduling parameters. The workflow designer wants weekly schedule but the day should not be a weekday: You can even do this. Is this flexible enough for my requirements? I’ve attached the very command code. You can modify the command as per your requirements. Suppose you want daily execution of a certain workflow at 10:00 PM but skip a day of execution if the day is a Monday. Modify the code check for the day and add another day if it’s a Monday. Its posh code and highly readable. So you can see how this can be used in a variety of ways. This is the beauty of a programmatic solution. Its highly flexible, it allows users to design solution based on their requirements. Flexibility is the heart & soul of WFA. Thats why I like it. I have a workflow but I don't want to modify it by adding a new command in it. Can I still use this solution? Yes but with WFA 3.0 on wards. WFA3.0 allows to create modular workflows. Create a parent workflow with you actual workflow as a child workflow in it. Add our “workflow scheduler” command too. So now you don't need to touch your existing workflow. Official solution for unlocking for an old iPhone 3GS

Last summer, I purchased an iPhone 3GS together with a 2-year contract with Swisscom, one of the mobile telephone operators in Switzerland. A few weeks ago, my phone was stolen while I was on a trip. I contacted Swisscom and informed them that the phone had been stolen. They deactivated the old SIM card, and sent me a replacement SIM card. I reported the theft to the police too. My understanding is that the IMEI number of my old iPhone will be added to a blacklist so that it cannot be used on any mobile telephone networks anymore.
My father, who lives in Texas, recently upgraded from an iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4. He extended his original contract with AT&T and simply moved his number over to the new phone. Because he no longer had a need for his old iPhone 3GS, he agreed to send it to me. At my suggestion, he went first to the Apple Store in Austin and requested that they unlock the phone. The folks at the Apple Store informed him that they could not unlock it. They suggested that Apple or the mobile carrier in Switzerland could unlock the phone.
My father shipped his old iPhone 3GS to me, and I received it yesterday. This morning, I went to the Apple Store in Zürich and asked if they could unlock the phone so that I could use it with my Swisscom SIM card—the one Swisscom sent me to replace the one in my stolen iPhone. They told me that they could not do this, and that only the original carrier, AT&T could unlock the phone.
What is the official solution for unlocking an old iPhone 3GS?

Re-using old products to extend their useable lifetimes is one of the most effective ways of reducing the impact we have on the environment. When my phone was stolen, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to put this philosophy into action, using my dad’s old phone to use instead of just throwing it away, or leaving it on a shelf to be discarded later.
I think it would be a shame if there were no officially sanctioned way to put an old device to good use.

IOS 5.0.1 upgrade on iPhone 3GS,

Prior to iOS 5.0.1 upgrade on iPhone 3GS, I could readily connect to and use a variety of wireless networks at home, work, and on road.
Since installing the upgrade as prompted on device, I find WiFi is unstable to unusable.
Unless the device is sitting practically on top of a router, I cannot maintain connections.
If I am more than 2 ft out of direct line of sught of router, I lose my connection.
I have to date read and completed the following online suggestions with no success:
1-Restarted router - NO CHANGE
2-Reset Network Settings on device - NO CHANGE
3-Toggled in and out of Airplane mode - NO CHANGE
4-Completed various options for start/restart of device - NO CHANGE
5-Disabled all other services using battery at same time (Bluetooth/Location Services, Mail, Reduced Backlight even) - NO CHANGE
6-Forgotten prior networks - NO CHANGE
7-Attempted to assign Static IP to device on router side - NO CHANGE
8-Restored from backup - NO CHANGE
8a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
9-Restored to Factory state - NO CHANGE
9a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
10-Changed Router security from OPEN to most SECURE - NO CHANGE
10a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
11-Setup new router - NO CHANGE
11a-Repeat 1-6 and 10 again - NO CHANGE
During all of this multiple iOS 4.x devices and iOS 5.0 devices have been on the routers connecting as always.
The device in question functioned perfectly up to the point of iOS 5.0.1 so I know this is not a iPHONE hardware issue nor is it a ROUTER hardware issue.
I have seen this posted frequently and do not believe this to be an isolated state I am in.
Any thoughts and suggestions before moving to another manufacturer all together and get out of this Apple mindset.

Nothing personal (or maybe just a little personal), but simply copying my post from a day earlier as your own is not helpful to the Apple communities or people that coming here looking for support.
It does nothing more than add a duplicate post and decrease the chances that someone might actually include a reference to my original post, which came from MY OWN HARD WORK in troubleshooting my issues.
If you are having a similar issue, post the issue after doing your own leg work and describe in your own words. Don't simple steal someone else's hard work to troubleshoot the problem as your own effort.

If I try and update a task definition with task instances running I get the following error:
Task definition 'My Task - Add User' may not be modified while there are active task instances
Is there a best practice to handle this. I tried to force an update through the console but that didn't work. I tried editing the task from the debug page and got the same error.

1) Rename the original task definition.
2) Upload the new task definition with the original name.
3) Later, after all the running tasks have timed out, delete the old definition.
E.g., if your task definition is "myWorkflow":
1) Rename "myWorkflow" to "myWorkflow-old-2009-07-28"
2) Upload the new task definition as "myWorkflow".
Existing tasks will stay linked to the original (renamed) workflow definition.
New tasks will use the new definition.
As the previous poster notes, depending on the changes you are making, letting the old task definitions stay active could have bad side-effects and might be better avoided.

Many apps missing after upgrade from iPhone 3gs to iPhone 4?

Hi - I'm trying to troubleshoot for my dad who was lucky enough to receive the iphone 4 today. He says the majority of apps didn't transfer from his iphone 3gs. I did a screen share with him and he's right. The apps are on the old iphone 3gs but not showing in his apps library or on the new phone. Anyone else experiencing this? He did a full back-up and had already upgraded his iphone 3gs to the iOS4 software. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had this issue but found the cause and solution.
When upgrading from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4 (initial connection of new phone to iTunes) and AT&T moved my phone number from the 3GS to the 4; the 4 told me to power cycle (and I think unplug). Since a power cycle causes the phone to disconnect & reconnect to iTunes, and since the first sync after plugging the phone in always does a backup, it did a backup of the blank phone settings (no apps), and therefore wiped out the checked apps in the Applications tab of iTunes. (Note: The apps' data did exist, so checking an app, syncing, and then running the app showed the data. Good news: Data's still there. Bad news: Any apps you skip will hold their old data, as opposed to when you delete an app and it removes the app data for you.)
After hitting Erase All Content and Settings on my old 3GS and realizing it only took a minute and not an hour like the original iPhone did running OS 2 or 3, and seeing how smoothly its reinstall went (loaded settings, rebooted phone, and loaded apps OK), and more importantly that iTunes kept the old final 3GS backup and used a new backup for the new iPhone 4, I tried it on the iPhone 4: I hit Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings, then connected the phone. It asked which settings to restore, found my old phone backup (used date/timestamp to find right one); it then loaded settings (a few minutes), rebooted, and went right to installing apps. My phone was fine after that - all apps and folders were restored.

What is the best workflow for Final Cut Pro X across multiple computers?

I travel on a team that is in a different location every week, so all of our video editing has to be fairly moble. We have 3 macbook pros and would like to use final cut X on all of them. What would be the best workflow for us all to work on the same project and sync it across the computers? (eg, one of us editing the footage, one editing the sound, one working on visual effects?)

My first question would be how well 5.1 would work with SL. People have reported problems.
As far as cameras are concerned, I would guess most any tape-based camera would work and so much depends on the kind of projects you work on that I wouldn't want to start guessing at your needs.
If you want broad access to tapeless and advanced formats try to locate and purchase an upgrade disk to 6 or 7.

You're welcome.
The best protection is to simply passcode protect your phone. That way, no one can get into the phone to do anything. As for Find My Phone, simply turning the phone off defeats it, then you restore as a new device in iTunes.
Make sure your phone is passcode protected.

I have a iPhone 3GS and installed iOS5. Since then, my phone crashes 2-3 times a day, it has a hard time find the cell networks (no 3G and says no network often), and eats up a fully charged battery overnight searching for connections. Fixing my phone is now my number one use of my free time! AT&T store says I should just upgrade my phone. This a software issue! I upgraded to iOS5.01 and it seems to be no different.
My wife had similar issues with her iPhone3G and iOS4. We made 3 trips to the Apple Store to do a deep recovery to bring it back to life. They told us it was a hardware issue and we needed to buy a new phone. iOS4.1 fixed all the problems and the phone worked great.
I guess I am in for the same ride And will hope iOS5.1 fixes my issues. Apple PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I am new here, but I do have the same problem as posted above. Except through iTunes it states my phone is up to date with the 4.2.1. iOS. I do not get any option to upgrade it to a newer version. Clicking check for updates does not give me any options. Where do I get this 5.xx update?
I am trying to hold onto this 3gs untill the New iPhone is out in a (hopefully) little while and then switch over. But unfortunately the 3gs is really bogging down lately. Today I didn't even get the phone to turn on. Just a white screen that's all. Battery still at 75% (or at least just before the white screen. It didn't even reset. I managed a backup, but I was hoping the new software could help out here...
So any advice or solutions on getting that new software would be most welcome.

OWB + Workflow following upgrade from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3

Our database is being upgraded from Oracle 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3 at moment.
We use Oracle workflow for the process flows.
Given that workflow is a separate application, I'm assuming we don't need to take any action regarding workflow.
Would this be the case?
