Wow! I feel like a "Crash-Test" Dummy!

First of all - I wabt to like Premiere CS4 - I really do. However, I started a new project with it, captured clips, started working........
..........and that is where the trouble began.
This program is crashing upon virtually EVERY save or auto-save. I suffered through it for a few weeks (it is totally random when it crashes) and after this purgatorius experience(I have sent 411 crash reports to Adobe) - I exported my edited clips to CS3, set up a new project with the exact same settings as the old (NTSC DV, 48 KHZ 16 bit audio) and.............
...........I have been able to work and actually edit AND auto-save with NO crashes sice yesterday. Thank God I did not uninstall CS3.
My system:
Dual core Dual processor Woodcrest
6 GB RAM
6 TB HD Space (programs on C drive only)
NVidia FX 3800 1 GB VRAM
Any ideas as to where to go to troubleshoot - or should I just wait for an update? Any other crash experiences or problems? Thanks for any and all help. I really want to like CS4..............

Runtime errors can be common. They usually stem from a bad, outdated, or otherwise corrupt C++ Runtime.dll.
I would address that issue first and foremost. Google "runtime error," and begin reading. There will be many hits, but if you refine your search with words like Adobe, Premiere, etc., you'll narrow things down. There will be links to the MS site for updated runtime.dll's. Note: make sure that you get the one that perfectly matches your version of the OS. Do NOT get one for any other version, than yours. Check this carefully.

  • I moonlight as a crash test dummy.

    Right now, I have total sympathy for Buster the Crash Test dummy on Mythbusters.
    If you wander by the AE forums, you'll see the saga I just finished over there. 20 hour long renders with AE and Media Encoder on tiny, tiny files. BUT I got it worked and was just getting to the point where I was almost done with my project.
    Then the strangest thing happened - Media Encoder suddenly started working, all mysterious like. It not only started working but I was getting large renders done in under an hour (well, for me - my system isn't that great but I muddle through - my projects aren't really that huge either.
    Then this afternoon everything went to #$^#* again!
    QuickTime and iTunes stopped, AE stopped and Premiere Pro stopped. As in start loadng and immediately crash.
    I'm running an AMD Windows 7 64 system and me and AMD are going to go to war here in a bit. Everytime they give me a new driver CPU or GPU things go freaking nuts.
    So, wen't back to the old drivers but had a heck of a time getting QuickTime to install correctly again, along with iTunes and their Bonjour serrvice. Then I tackled Adobe stuffs. I got AE and Media Encoder working again bugt Premiere Pro is still freaking out. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and had to fix my CC account like others have posted on here. Got the new EULA and thought I was doing okay (after a bazillion hours).
    But Premiere is still being stubborn. So I tried Photoshop - that worked. AE fired up too but then wigged and said Quicktime was no longer installed on my system.
    And it looks like I spoke too soon - Encoder just crapped out on me again..
    Oh for the long lost wealthy  uncle to appear so I can get a decent system. That would definetely help. But like I said, I don't do a lot of major stuff. I'm an indie author, so my stuff is book trailers and short marketing stuffs. But this is nuts.
    I've updated all of my CC programs - AE is 12.2.1.5 - like I said, I've reinstalled them about three times now. I primarily only use AE, Premiere, and Photoshop - for right now. I'm keeping the d/l to a minimum until I get this worked out.
    I'm running Windows 7 64bt Home Premium - that just did a big ole update too. I had to go put things back the way I had them. I'm doing short, small renders, lots of pre-renders but my stuff is really light in comparision to what y'all deal with. I try to keep it in H264, mov or avi, or sometimes I'll strip the footage down to bare bones just to hunt down the problem. I'm trying to render 56mg video footage right now.
    Basically Premiere won't eve start. Media Encoder has been starting but is now locking up. And believe it or not, AE seems to be the most cooperative.
    I've scrubbed the caches repeatedly, and not long ago, I used the Adobe cleaner, so this is basically new installs.
    Since I've got 100% AMD I have no choie but to run the Mercury engine. Since this all started in the beginning of the week, I've been running this stuff lean and mean. Like I said, I thought I had it - then.
    Hit the brick wall and went through the windshield.

  • Safari 6 feels like beta software! Eeek!

    So I quickly installed Safari 6 on the day of release. I ended up with several problems.
    1. Safari 6 crashes alot more than Safari 5 did....particularly when the dev tools are turned on.
    2. Sometimes Safari 6 doesn't render the whole page. It's a really strange bug.
    3. Safari 6 is sometimes unresponsive?
    4. The dev tools don't make any sense. I was one of those who preferred to develop for Safari first. The tools seem like a HOT mess now. I like that they look new and all but they crash the entire browser or slow it down significantly at a time when I need it to work most.
    It's like working with a slightly faster less stable version of FF. Its the most unstable Webkit release I've seen so far. I can't believe developers tested this out and thought it was ready to ship or maybe Apple just doesn't want developers developing for it's products. Safari 6 feels like self sabotage.

  • Feel like a dumm***

    I fdisked last week, formatted, installed all my toys and have been trying to figure out what the "found new hardware PCI Audio" is every since. I tried everything I knew to do. Then today I was playing in my BIOS and it hit me, Disable onboard sound :O , what a dumba** , I have been trying to figure out what Win98 wanted for a week now, guess what? No more "found new hardware", I feel like smack'in myself! :O

    More to come:
    1. I thought I've installed everything of a PC, but I got blank screen on the monitor, even the monitor light is on. :p I reslot the AGP card.. etc etc cleared BIOS, etc etc still didn't work... and ultimately I discovered my problem. I didn't plug in the monitor cable  ?(
    2. I helped my friend to troubleshoot her Duron 700 PC and got everything OK. After 2 days, she told me her PC keep hanging and crashing. Then I rechecked the PC figured out the CPU heatsink fan was 180 degree the other way around.  ?(
    3. I tried to fix a Canon bubblejet printer. At first, the printer didn't respond to the PC. So after all cable checked, driver checked, the printer did respond to the PC but couldn't load any paper! So I suspect the printer is dead as the printer couldn't print its own test page too! Then finally I took out the printer, shaked few times and a notice board nail dropped out from the printer. That nail was accidentally dropped into the printer while at the very first time I started to troubleshoot the printer. It took near 2 hours for everything.

  • I feel like I really missed something somewhere...

    So I was watching Family Guy last night using Xine (I like menus), and I noticed that the quality was really bad, so I cranked up the deinterlacing, and once my CPU topped 100%, the quality was "acceptable". 
    But then I was cooking, so the menus annoyed me (it doesn't have a play all button), so I used mplayer with this command: "for i in `seq 2 9`; do mplayer dvd://${i} -dvd-device /dev/hdc -vo xv; done", and the picture quality was perfect (note the lack of any deinterlace filters).
    So I wondered why Xine was giving me such crap quality, and I noticed that "Video Device" was set to "Auto" (which I always thought meant it picked xv over all of the others), but I changed it to "xv", and now I get the same quality as mplayer without any deinterlacing.
    Now, I swear a few years ago when I was fiddling with that kinda thing, I had to use deinterlacers with "xv" to get the same quality as I get now (using just xv alone).  So, does xv now use my graphics cards onboard MPEG-2 decoding, or does xv have it's own deinterlacer, or does something else happen?  I really feel like I missed something somewhere...

  • Safari 5 extremely slow and unstable,  feels like early beta

    Hi,
    since i upgraded to safari 5 the browser is extremely slow on loading webpages, unresponsive and often can't establish any connection to websites at all. one time it even crashed.
    the whole thing feels like an early beta. i have no addons or what so ever installed, safari 4 worked incredibly well before.
    since i've read many similar postings concerning this issue i hope apple will be offering a fix soon...!

    I have the same problems! .. Some times I have no internet connection, but if I start up Firefox or google chrome, I get internet connection.
    Often for no reason Safari stops responding .. It's a shame b/c it's extremely fast vs Firefox
    Seems like I have to stick to Chrome until a update follows
    btw. Nice job on the look and feel on the Safari 5 expecialy the combined history search in the address line looking forward to a stable release

  • HT1338 This morning my mac has started pressing th 'one' key whenever it feels like it. Any ideas?

    So I work from home mostly on my mac book pro, which i bought early in 2011. I set and started working exactly as i would every other day.
    The mac took no irregular knocks, nothing was spilt on it but it's decided to put 1's in whenever it feels like it. I've deleted a whole bunch just writing this!
    I tried to update the software because i figured it might correct a bug. I also googled the problem to see if anyone else had posted something similar but i haven't had any luck.
    I don't feel comfortable taking the mac apart and my nearest apple store is a little out of the way so any help on here would be great!
    oh and sometimes the 1 doesn't work, but that came with the problem never had an issue before

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
    When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I was looking at a tanning website today and then I logged off and went to eat lunch.  When I came back, I got on Facebook and on the side were ads for tanning.  What do I do so that this won't happen?  I feel like something is wrong.

  • Feel like getting ripped off by BT

    My monthly bill comes to around £60 combined for anytime calls, Infinity 2 and basic TV, which I feel is way too much. I have not used the TV at all in the last 10 months and my broadband speed, according to tests, is consistently under 5mb/s compared to the 60mb/s I use to get in the first couple of months of the current 12 month deal. The last few months it has been more like 5mb/s. However, I don't feel like the actual connection is slow as 5mb/s is fast enough for my requirements most of the time. The only time it seems slow is when downloading movies on iTunes. A movie that should take a few minutes is taking more like 30 minutes. The good thing is, since video now plays off the cloud, I can start playing it as soon I start the downloading. However, I notice that some movies (I play from the video librarary) keep stop-starting on a regular basis, sometimes to the point where I can't be bothered to watch.
    I will be cancelling the TV which will take £7 a month off the bill plus another £3 for BT sport HD. Any recommendations so I can bring the overall bill down to a more manageable £40 or so. I might downgrade to infinity 1 as I am not seeing the benefits of infinity 2 in terms of speed. Can I downgrade over the phone (without needing an engineer coming around)? I really can't be bothered with the hassle. I have the hub 4 by the way.

    I think you should be able to downgrade to infinity 1 without any engineer visit required. You do certainly need to get your speed issue investigated though, something is amiss there.
    Without knowing the exact breakdown of the £60 it's hard to give specific advice, but in general  ...

    However, if you are near to completing (or have completed) the minimum term for your current contract then you are in a strong bargaining position. The best thing to do is to phone the Customer Options Team on 0800 800 030. They will explain all the options and they can often give extra discounts over the phone if you commit to a new contract with a new minimum term. For example I just recontracted my Infinity 1 (40GB) at less than £18 and also got TV Essential at £2. 

  • I feel like my imac has a virus?

    It seems like there is something wrong with my imac, i feel like a virus maybe.  This is what has been happening; I can be on my apple.com screen when I first sign on and then I will go directly to my top site where I have all of my personal sites like bank, etrade, etc. and when I do that, the screen gets all distorted for a split second.  What would you all suggest I do?  I was thinking of taking my imac to best buy and have someone check it out.  Is there some app or program that I can download via the apple store that will actually check my computer for any type of problems.

    Run Apple Hardware Test.
    If it reports "no trouble found" then consider the following:

    ...  I was thinking of taking my imac to best buy and have someone check it out. 
    You would be better off taking it your local automobile repair shop and having them check it out.
    An Apple Store or authorized Apple Service Provider are the only properly qualified technicians to consider using.

  • In desperate need of help!! I feel like i'm using ...

    Hi, our broadband at home is stupidly slow.  Especially the wireless.  It feels like im running dial up from ten years ago.
    The problem has been ongoing for a long time, but i've only just returned home from uni, hence why it has taken me so long to ask for help.
    After reading on the forums about the shoddy service the india call centre gives, i decided it would be best to try the forums first.
    The internet is consistently slow, and it also seems to reach speeds of 0 kb/s at times, sometimes disconnecting me, other times not.
    These are my ADS stats, i will add my test results from the bt speed checker once it has finished.  FAST RESPONSES WOULD BE LOVED!  My net even died from trying to post this, and its the only thing im running.

    Your line stats look great, your sync speed is good, and your IP profile is correct.
    Your download speed is poor.
    This could be :
    1) Hot Virtual Path at the exchange - basically your exchange has run out of bandwidth.  Do you get similar poor download speeds at all times of day and night?  If you get much faster speeds in the early morning or during the daytime, then you need the help of the forum moderators.
    2) Your WiFi connection is not working properly.  Do you get similar poor download speeds when connected to the HomeHub via an ethernet cable?  It is worth trying if you haven't done so.
    3) Are you totally sure you don't have any other devices connected to your WiFi connection dragging down your bandwidth?  Go the the "Home Network" tab in the HomeHub admin screens and see what is connected
    4) Are you signed up with BT FON?  I wonder if other people are connecting to your hub and sucking up your bandwidth? (this can cost 0.5 Mbps)  Are you living in / near a very public area?

    Is your phone still covered by warranty?  If so, go to your nearest Apple store and depending on what happened, this may or may not be covered by warranty.  If it is, then you can get a replacement exactly as the phone you already have.
    If out of warranty, then there is nothing you can do and you'll have to pay.

    is that really what it is?  this is the native iphone weather app.  the funny part is that when i use the actual weather channel app, it does provide it.
    is this an api issue with the weather channel and the iphone then?  i guess there's no fix?

  • Am I the only person that feels like the salesman lied to me, wrote up contract wrong, etc?

    I had purchased two Iphone 4's without contract and enjoyed not having the bill and extra fees every month.  Through the prepaid carrier, my son and I didn't even know we could use a laptop or anything  with our phones.  Luck would have it, the only thing I had left through Verizon was my USB device that I put on my computer and after 3 years, it broke.  I went to Verizon to purchase a new one, and pay cash for it to not be under contract, the first salesman assured me it was compatible like the other but after four days I had to take it back for lack of connection.  79.00 was what I paid, when returned, of course I got stuck paying the restocking fee of 35.00 and a new sales person named Cofe (at Jonesboro location) comes to assist me. He talked me into the wifi jetback for 20 or so with the NEW TWO YEAR CONTRACT as he understood I would be needing for portable devices.  Had to pay full price for it and wait for my 50 bucks on the rebate card.  He spots my son scoping out the 4S, he said he could make the deal worth my while if we wanted to get newer phones...never telling me how much the cost.  Against my better judgement, we got new phones, promised new free Lifeproof cases, etc.  I told him my funds were tight and I only wanted a plan of about 160 or 180 total for all.  Paid the small amount he said was due, then get a bill for 443 a couple days later.  We kept going over the data on our phones, not knowing that he in fact set us up to pay 220 a month for 10 gb data, use of jetpack and two smart phones.  Paying over for what we had on the mifi we didn't know exitsted caused us to have 30 too much on device and usually 30 overcharge data.  Fianlly look at bill wondering why I couldn't get it paid up and 6 calls to customer service, digging through receipts, 10 hours of phone bill hunting, and numerous hours on the phone brought to my attention that he had set me up on almost the most expensive plan, charged us 99 each for cases, 99 for two new contracts and swiped a gift card for 400 to my account without any knowledge.  Also, this  was a new plan since not under contract, and HE TOOK OUR PHONES that I could've sold for a small chunk and there is not a trace of where they went? He made himself a sale that day!!  They have removed some of the charges since I took back the FREE cases, etc., but this has been a horrible experience.  I begged the people to please let me out of my contract because now I am unemployed and sure cant afford this and I feel like he did some underhanded tactics selling and not starting the plan off right.  He didn't have to sell me the jetpack, we can run laptop of phones, and I guess if I were only gonna get 99 bucks for a three month old phone, I wouldve taken it elsewhere.  It's amazing that of all documents scanned in My Verizon, it does not really show a trade in, which he didn't explain anyway, nor does it show what or the actual value.  I get horrible service in my area and it drags on the web.not taking long to use the data.  In the last week, my phone was cut off so I had to go to the prepaid place and port over.  Paid enough to keep my son's phone and laptop and got told if I dont have remaining balance in a few days, they won't port my number back to Verizon, service interrupt on all and then the process server will get to bang on my door.  I have never been so disgusted with service and some of the people in that building by their actions.  One tried but of course he took up for his dude Cofe.....I don't know what to do now, try to pay it or tell them take the phones and FIND MY OLD ONES then go back prepay.  Read this customer service specialist, because I am pretty sure DECEIT, RUNNING GIFT CARDS, AND WRONGFULLY SETTING UP NEW CONTRACT is grounds for an official claim. How did y'all like that bid long confusing mess of a story?  :/

    You have a password, so good move on your part.  Whether you erase it or the thief does, they still get to use the iPhone as theirs.  Which is more important (pick one), protecting your data or punishing the thief?
    Ringing occurs at the carrier.  Chances are you're going to voicemail after only two or three rings.  If you have an iCloud backup also a good move.  Re-read my question in the first paragraph.
