Feel like getting ripped off by BT

My monthly bill comes to around £60 combined for anytime calls, Infinity 2 and basic TV, which I feel is way too much. I have not used the TV at all in the last 10 months and my broadband speed, according to tests, is consistently under 5mb/s compared to the 60mb/s I use to get in the first couple of months of the current 12 month deal. The last few months it has been more like 5mb/s. However, I don't feel like the actual connection is slow as 5mb/s is fast enough for my requirements most of the time. The only time it seems slow is when downloading movies on iTunes. A movie that should take a few minutes is taking more like 30 minutes. The good thing is, since video now plays off the cloud, I can start playing it as soon I start the downloading. However, I notice that some movies (I play from the video librarary) keep stop-starting on a regular basis, sometimes to the point where I can't be bothered to watch.
I will be cancelling the TV which will take £7 a month off the bill plus another £3 for BT sport HD. Any recommendations so I can bring the overall bill down to a more manageable £40 or so. I might downgrade to infinity 1 as I am not seeing the benefits of infinity 2 in terms of speed. Can I downgrade over the phone (without needing an engineer coming around)? I really can't be bothered with the hassle. I have the hub 4 by the way.

I think you should be able to downgrade to infinity 1 without any engineer visit required. You do certainly need to get your speed issue investigated though, something is amiss there.
Without knowing the exact breakdown of the £60 it's hard to give specific advice, but in general  ...
Phone Line Rental is £15.99 or £13.32 if you pay by Line Rental Saver a year in advance. 
Weekend Calls are free.
Evening Calls is now available as a £3.00 add-on (used to be included in certain packages). 
Anytime Calls is now available as a £7.50 add-on (used to be included in certain packages).
There are lots of other phone feature add-ons at extra costs.
Infinity 1 (20GB) is £15.
Infinity 1 (40GB) is £18.
Infinity 1 Unlimited is £23.
Infinity 2 Unlimited is £26.
Just go to the MyBT page and click on the links at the top such as 'My Phone' or 'My Broadband'.
However, if you are near to completing (or have completed) the minimum term for your current contract then you are in a strong bargaining position. The best thing to do is to phone the Customer Options Team on 0800 800 030. They will explain all the options and they can often give extra discounts over the phone if you commit to a new contract with a new minimum term. For example I just recontracted my Infinity 1 (40GB) at less than £18 and also got TV Essential at £2.

  • I bought Logic Pro 9 in May and haven't had time to use it... And now they have Logic Pro X. Can I get a refund and buy X? I feel a bit ripped off as it stands now.

    Can someone help? I feel bummed and a bit ripped off.  I'd like to have Logic Pro X now, with all it's nice new features. I bought Logic 9 in May and haven't had time to even look at it. You think apple will offer people like me a refund? I hope so. I just don't feel it's right to charge so much for the upgrade.

    Some App Store employee's "accidentally" (but in good faith) issued refunds to a few users who had purchased Logic 9 within 30 days prior to the mid-July release of Logic-X. Word quickly came down from Apple HQ that this was against App Store policy and the practice was immediately stopped.
    To the original poster.. you never stood a chance, even if they were issuing refunds you didn't fall within the 30 day period.  There were many who purchased Logic 9 a few days before the LX release who did not get a refund.

    Hi Can anyone explain why it costs $AUD16.99 an album or $AUD1.69 per song to buy music through the Itunes store in Australia when it costs $US9.99 to buy the same album ( or $US0.99) per song if you buy in the US. The current exchange rate is at around 95c in the $ so the price should be no more than about a $1.10 so Apple or somebody is making on average about 33% extra for every song sold in Australia. This is discriminatory and patently unfair. It doesn't cost Apple any more to service Australian clients than American and this price difference is unjustifiable on the evidence before me.

    Which is precisely what I am doing. i will find a way to purchase direct from the US or UK. But I would still be keen to see some justification for the rip off apart from the "cause we can" mentality. Still doesn't make it right for Apple or the record companies if it is them that are setting the prices. Typical isn't it . The whole music industry's (ie the labels) approach to digital music right from the start - firstly fight it tooth and nail until such time as it is obvious you can't win so then change the rules and try and control it even more than ever before (DRM and sundry associated issues ) and again when even that is shown as a complete waste of time and effort introduce a pricing model that favours particular markets. And people wonder why people share music ?
    And even the fact that your statement regarding different negotiated market access for different markets is a joke in itself. Why is a US consumer any more entitled to a cheaper price for music than someone in Brazil, Australia, Asia etc. Sure their market is bigger but with online music it is a global market with no respect to borders. So that argument would also be fallacious. Lets face it they do it cause they are getting away with it and they don't really give a toss about the consumer.
    So you are suggesting that the costs of supplying an Australian consumer is 33% more than the cost for a US customer . Basically this works out that every third album you buy should be free or would be free if the prices were comparable.

    There was an album I wanted to buy in iTunes that is $16.99, I was short a few cents though so I started buying some songs in the album separately. When the price knocked down to about $3.00 I decided to buy one more, as I knew to buy the rest of the album I would have to pay at least a few more cents... BUT, when I did so the album went back to the full price! Each song separately is $2.19, and I still have 4 more songs to buy now which adds up to $8.76 and apparently I have to pay $16.99 to buy the full album but really all that I would need to pay is $8.76 after this dilemma, but it shouldn't even be that, it should only be a few more cents, only about a $1.00. I really need this fixed because I don't have much money to begin with as I don't even have a part time job yet. I'm in high school, I shouldn't have to put up with this. Please help, I shouldn't have to pay another $8.76.

  • Did I get ripped off?????

    Hello all:
    Bought a FX5200-T128 today and when installing it I noticed that it differed from what I had seen on MSi's website. For one its green not red. Two it has 4 memory modules instead of 2. Is this some other card placed in MSI retail packaging? Is there anyway to tell for sure?

    Lets face it, {please keep your posts courteous}.  The largest bill in the house aside from rent is the "cable bill."
    The government gave these Co. Permission to charge what they want.
    What sense is it that it cost more money to remove a service, then to add one?  Why is it if you are a customer of a cable co., for over a year, your cost goes up.
    A new customer will get a reward and a better rate for one year.
    It is insane an it is our own government that is letting this happen.

    I just bought an album on itunes for my brother in France. But he can not download it as when he tries it says it os only valid in the USA>

    It's not a rip-off. It says quite clearly in the iTunes Store that gifts are valid only in the country of purchase. You cannot give an iTunes gift to another country. Your best option, and certainly the easiest, is to just redirect the gift to someone you know in the US:

    A refund may not be possible since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:

  • I feel like i am going to cry after my 3 hour update generated an 9006 error message. apple support tried to restore my ipod and when they made an error they just returned the thing to me and said sorry. sorry is not enough for breaking it. it's dead.

    This is the email I received from Verizon. It makes no sense. The phone was valued at $100 and I was given $12.60. Have a read. It says the phone turns on and the reason for the problem is that, "The device in all appearances is an "NO Power On" at inspection." Don't worry, I left in the typo. I believe I am getting ripped off here. The email blatantly says that the phone turns on and then that they can't turn it on. What? The phone worked absolutely fine as it was sent back.     The phone would not power on during inspection. It was not a power supply issue, nor an issue with information transfer that resulted in an adjustment to the original quote because before a device begins the inspection process it is hooked up to a charger as soon as it is received by our device recycling warehouse.  The phone does power on and power off, but it automatically turns itself back on after being powered off.
    We charge the unit, power it off and send it down the roller. The inspection process can take 1-3 days for unit to complete process, so a phone that powers itself back on while on the roller will drain the battery. When the Inspection operator obtains unit from the roller and attempts to power unit on (which should have been charged) it won't power on because the battery is now dead.
    Even sending for a second attempt at charging gave the same result once it reached inspection again. The device in all appearances is an "NO Power On" at inspection.
    Unfortunately, per the terms and conditions of the Verizon device recycling program and agreed to by you when you submitted and mailed your device for trade-in, no devices can be returned.

    Similar story here. Sent my 4s for trade-in, got $15.30 GC, appraised value was $85. I did some homework on this before I submitted and almost convinced myself that this was going to happen......here's my story.
    The power button on my 4s didn't function. I used the accessibility feature to power down the phone. To turn it on, it needs to be plugged in by the power cord. I "chatted" with a Verizon rep to see if it would still qualify for the full appraisal value. Their response was "As long as it's still functional, you should get $200 trade in towards the new iPhone". I wasn't trading in for a new Iphone, however, this was all I needed as proof. Low and behold, when I sent my 4s in, I get an email 2 weeks later for a gift card in the amount of $15.30. When I checked the reason for the dimished value, it states "Device does not power on". Trying to drum up some complaints because I saw this coming. I offered to send in pictures of my working phone and other documents. Not sure if I'm gonna get the $69.70 I'm owed, but I'm certainly gonna try! All this aggravation for a 10+ year customer. Thanks, VZW! If I don't get any satisfactory results, going to the attorney general. Might be years before I get a satisfactory result. Any VZW moderators on here have any suggestions on how to resolve these issues??? It's obviously a widespread problem. Just trying to get what we are owed!
