Writing/reading 3 arrays in one file

hello guys
i am trying to write 3 different arrays(size 25) in one file and seek to retrieve them independently to generate a comparative graph of performance in a different window, as i m designing a biological simulator.
please help me here as i m not sure how to write/read them individually in one file.
thanks a lot in advance
avi

Just write them to a sequentual access file and separate them with some sort of special character. Otherwise use random access files because you know the length of the arrays. http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io/rafs.html
I would go with the first because it is the easiest.

  • Writing multiple images to one file using ImageIO

    I am having trouble saving and reading multiple images from to/from one file. Here is the best i can come up with:
    //this is utilizing an ObjectOutputStream because i need to also save some objects to the file
    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("C:\\images.dat"));
    oos.writeInt(ImageTable.size());
    for(int k = 0; k  < ImageTable.size(); k++)
        ImageIO.write((BufferedImage)ImageTable.get(k), "png", oos);
        oos.flush();
    //////////////////////////read function/////////////////////////
    ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream("C:\\images.dat"));
    int size = ois.readInt();
    for(int k = 0; k < size; k++)
        ImageTable.add(ImageIO.read(ois));
    }What it seems to do is read the first image and then place the marker at the end of the file so each consecutive calls to reading the file end up in either null, -1, or an EOF exception (bleh). Does anyone know how i can do this properly?
    The code does run and saves something, although it is hard to tell exactly what it is saving since it is all in png format, it also loads the first image properly.

    Is it possible to pack the different images in one big image?Conversely, some image formats let you store multiple images in a single image file.
    Here's a demo. My results are that I don't have a gif writer, tiff can write sequences (this
    is a well-known tiff property), I can trick (?) jpeg into stroring multiple images and I
    can't get png to work: three images go in, one comes out.

  • Java writing out bytes from one file, reading back in again

    Hi, I'm having some trouble with bytes.
    I have one program which outputs the following bytes into a file (using Printstream.write() - I'm sure that this program is working fine):
    4 0 64 0 4 0 128 0 63 223 64 20 4 16 130 0 60 16 64 1 63 223 79 236 64 16 195 232 116 63 255 232 148 0 0 0
    I'm then reading in the bytes using the code given on this page (http://www.exampledepot.com/egs/java.io/File2ByteArray.html)
    and I get...
    4 0 64 0 4 0 -128 0 63 -33 64 20 4 16 -126 0 60 16 64 1 63 -33 79 -20 64 16 -61 -24 116 63 -1 -24 -108 0 0 0
    As you can see I now have negative numbers - I noticed that if I do 256 + (the negative number) then i get the number I originally wrote out
    I tried fixing this when I read in by doing
    bytes[i] = (byte) (256 + bytes);
    but it doesn't change anything
    how can I either change it so it reads in the bytes exactly as i wrote them out, or write a bit of code that takes the negatives and converts them to the original positives?
    thx

    Unconditional wrote:
    Integer x1 = (bytes[i] << 24) & 0xFF;
                      Integer x2 = (bytes[i+1] << 16) & 0xFF;
                      Integer x3 = (bytes[i+2] << 8) & 0xFF;
                      Integer x4 = (bytes[i+3] << 0) & 0xFF;is what I'm doing
    System.out.println("x1 " + x1 + " x2 " + x2 + " x3 " + x3 + " x4 " + x4);
    returns
    x1 0 x2 0 x3 0 x4 0
    x1 0 x2 0 x3 0 x4 4
    x1 0 x2 0 x3 0 x4 0

    x1 0 x2 0 x3 0 x4 64
    x1 0 x2 0 x3 0 x4 20What are you trying to do? Combine the bytes into an int?

  • Help!! Trying to writing an array to a file without having to rewrite the old data every time.

    Hey Everyone,
    I have a vi that takes a 2D array and writes it to an xml file. The purpose for this is to characterize the pathloss through a dowkey 10x10 matrix at varies frequencies. I use this program to create a look-up table for the switch matrix so when I conduct one of my automated tests I can obtain an accurate measurment. The problem with this is I am taking about 299 data points per switch matrix combination leading me to over 32000 data points in the look-up table. The reason I use xml is because each data point needs a header so I can parse through the look-up table with another one of my vi's when I need that pathloss. What I am trying to fix is that when my vi writes to a file it writes one array at a time to save memory space. When it writes it rewrites the old data then the new data. As the number of data points increase so does the lag time to write to the file. By the time I am done it takes about five hours to fully write to the file. Does anyone know of a way to write continuesly write to a file without having to rewrite all of the old data? Attached is my vi for writing to the file, my vi for searching through the file, and an example of one of my look-up tables.
    Thanks,
    Dustin

    The only way to do that is to only append to the end of your file.  This would probably require some rewriting of your header information.

  • Writing random array positions to file

    Hi all.
    I have an array of 1000 positions each consisting of a String.
    I want to write the strings equally to two seperate text files which i have managed without any probs.
    The problem is i want to write these strings in a total random order so each time its run different strings would end up in different files and in total different order.
    i know how to generate a random number but not sure how to access all positions of the array but in random order.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

    The Random class has methods that generate random ints.
    You can use those ints to index the array and get the String from that position.

  • WLST define array in properties file and access in WLST

    Hi Guys,
    Just had a question, I am developing WLST script to configure WebLogic manage server instances and want to do in much way that user need to update properties file and then WLST/python reads it and logic in the script will configure # of manage server instances specified in properties file..
    properties.txt:
    mserver = ['MS1','MS2','Ms3'] ## define array in properties file
    WLST.py ( i am having trouble reading array from properties.txt)
    from jarray import array
    load('properties.txt') # load the properties file in script
    Is there standard way I can read array from the file the way we do normal variable.. or any new suggestions will highly be welcomed?
    Regards..

    You don't have to define you parameter as an array (a=['one'],['two'], etc) at the properties file. I think that this is a good way to do what you want:
    file.prop file >
    var=one two threewlst file >
    loadProperties('file.prop')
    sepVar=String(var).split(" ")
    for i in sepVar:
      print "- Separated var: " + iIt should print something like
    - Separated var: one
    - Separated var: two
    - Separated var: threeEdited by: 904641 on Mar 29, 2012 2:38 PM

  • Reading multiple records in file adaptor

    Hi,
    I am trying to read records from one file and write them in another file.
    But the thing happened is it ready and write only first record.
    I check in the Audit... At receive it reads all three records, but in transform it takes only first record.
    I have defined schema in inbound adaptor and used same for outbound.
    Where should I make changes to read all the records from the input file.
    Thanks,
    Krunal

    I assume you are using a transform to do the mapping.
    The trick here is to use the for-each function on the target mapping when the element repeats.
    In the transformation design window right-click on the repeating element, choose the option for-each. This will create a new node just above. Map the source repeating node to the for each element.
    Deploy and retest.
    cheers

  • Problem with ArrayLists and writing and reading from a .dat file (I think)

    I'm brand new to this forum, but I'm sure hoping someone can help me with a problem I'm having with ArrayLists. This program was originally created with an array of objects that were displayed on a GUI with jtextFields, then cycling thru them via jButtons: First, Next, Previous, Last. Now I need to add the ability to modify, delete and add records. Both iterations of this program needed to write to and read from a .dat file.
    It worked just like it was suppose to when I used just the array, but now I need to use a "dynamic array" that will grow or shrink as needed: i.e. an ArrayList.
    When I aded the ArrayList I had the ArrayList use toArray() to fill my original array so I could continue to use all the methods I'd created for using with my array. Now I'm getting a nullPointerException every time I try to run my program, which means somewhere I'm NOT filling my array ???? But, I'm writing just fine to my .dat file, which is confusing me to no end!
    It's a long program, and I apologize for the length, but here it is. There are also 2 class files, a parent and 1 child below Inventory6. This was written in NetBeans IDE 5.5.1.

    BalusC -- The line that gives me my NullPointerException is when I call the "DisplayProduct()" method. Its a dumb question, but with NetBeans how do I find out which reference could be null? I'm not very familiar with how NetBeans works with finding out how to debug. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.The IDE is com-plete-ly irrelevant. It's all about the source code.
    Do you understand anyway when and why a NullPointerException is been thrown? It is a subclass of RuntimeException and those kind of exceptions are very trival and generally indicate an design/logic/thinking fault in your code.
    SomeObject someObject = null; // The someObject reference is null.
    someObject.doSomething(); // Invoking a reference which is null would throw NPE.

  • How to read from a text file one character at a time?

    Some additional comments:
    You really don't want to read any file one character at a time, because it is highly inefficient. More typically, you read the entire file into memory with one operation (or at least a large chunk, if the file is gigantic) and then do the rest of the operations in memory.  One easy way to analyze it one byte at a time would be to use "string to byte array" and then autoindex into a FOR loop, for example.
    Of course you could also read the file directly as a U8 array instead of a string.

  • Expdp with parallel writing in one file at a time on OS

    Hi friends,
    I am facing a strange issue.Despite giving parallel=x parameter the expdp is writing on only one file on OS level at a time,although it is writing into multiple files sequentially (not concurrently)
    While on other servers i see that expdp is able to start writing in multiple files concurrently. Following is the sample log
    of my expdp .

    PARALLEL always using with DUMPFILE=filename_*%U*.dmp. Did yoy put the same parameter on target server?
    PARALLEL clause depend on server resources. If the system resources allow, the number of parallel processes should be set to the number of dump files being created.

  • Read from one file ... and write

    I had written below code to read from a file
    which has input in below format...
    $ filla
    % dillla
    I wrote a code to read from the below file and I want to write into another file...
    in another format...like
    filla, $
    dilla, %
    I wrote as below... but my code doesn't work....i commented most of the code becoz I doubt ....
    I read the file...line by line...
    each line has two words one is special characters($ or %) and the other is some name... separated by space..
    I stored both in different arrays...and thought to write them in output file...

                   //bw.write("name[k]+","+symbol[k]");

    Why the multiple arrays?
    I'd just read it into List<String[]>... an extensible collection of "the fields on each line"... then you just write them out as required.
        second-field + comma + first-field.
    I suggest your next move should be to take a backup copy of your current class then rip-all that commented-out code out of it, and reformat it properly... starting from a clean(er) slate... then try swapping over to a List<String[]> instead of that cumbersome String[][] matrix.
    Try that... if you get stuckeroonied then don't be afraid to ask again.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Writing data from two different acquisition rates into one file

    Hi,
    I'm using a compactRIO, and I have an anemometer outputting data at 4Hz to the serial port on the controller, and I am using a 9237 module to read strain from two channels at 40Hz. I would like to record all this data in one file, but I'm unsure how to have the data points match up with respect to time since they are read at different rates. Basically I have 10 strain data points for every one anemometer data point, but that one data point needs to somehow be associated with the other 10 read in the same amount of time. It would be okay to "extend" the slower data to the 10 strain points, and likewise to the next ten when the anemometer refreshes its values.
    Thanks for any input!
    Andrew

    Check out the Queue multi-plexer vi from the examples.  C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\examples\general\queue.llb\Queue Multiplexer.vi
    If each data acquisition loop enqueues data to one file writing loop the data is writen in order.  Queues are really a good way to multiplex data sources

  • Help with writing, reading a file...

    I'm writing a program that writes a number to a file and then reads it again each time it is loaded. It's like a counter, the number starts out being 0, then when the program is run again the number will be two, and so on and so on. I've never been good with writing incrementer type things and files, so could you help me out? Remember, the program writes a single number to the file, and then adds one to that number each time the program is run, so it starts at zero and goes up by one each time it is run.
    -Thanks... I just came back from vacation and my Java skills are somewhat lacking :P

    open old file -> get the number -> create a new file -> write new number
