WRT 1900AC dropped 2.4 band wirless

I just experienced a problem on my day old WRT 1900AC router where it totally dropped the 2.4 band. It still broadcast the SSID, but no device could connect to it on that band (5 ghz was still fine), and the 2.4 light on the front was not lit.
Rebooting the router resolved the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, or is this just a one off that I should not expect to see repeated?

Yes, it is really strange. Its been about 15 hours and has not re-occured, but we shall see. I already had installed the latest firmware and reset the router when I set it up.  I have also now
(after the problem) moved it to the least congested chanel, instead of leaving it on auto. Out of something like 20 devices I have connected, perhaps 6 of them are on the 2.4 ghz band.
The only thing I can think of is that I had paired a new nest protect with it prior to losing th 2.4 band. That operates on the 2.4 band. I wonder is somehow that farged it up.
I'll give it a few days and see what happens. I also called tech support to log it, since I thought it likely represented a firmware bug.

  • WRT 1900AC and Windows 7 network naming question(s)

Background:  I had a Linksys E3000 up and running for about 5 years in a stable network environment.  The E3000 died, and I put in a new WRT 1900AC to replace it.  In the process of getting things set up correctly the main "network name" in my network displays shows up as a name assigned to a Wireless portion of my network.  The "Wired" portion shows up in diagrams, and to windows, as well as both of the main wirless bands but not as the central node between either of the wired Win7 computers and the internet  I would like to get the Windows 7 machines on my network to display the wired network name in Windows 7 as the primary network, and NOT one of the wireless ones.  Almost everything I want to be able to do is working just fine except for the network map display in Windows 7 where I have been trying to configure a "home group" that will not yield to my efforts.,
I use "suffix" notation in the naming, so my router on ethernet is .<ame>..NET, the wireless lower band is <name>...W24 upper band is <name>...W5.   I have not figured out how to get the artifacts of the "setup sequence of events" out of the Windows 7 displays in "network neighborhood" so I have a more rational picture that has Ethernet at the core and the wireless bands as additional subsidiary networks not necessarily associated with all my devices.  I know this is not technicallly a Linksys issue, but... Can I simply delete alll the neworking information in Windows 7, and reboot, and then force the computer to set up a network based on the correct network node labels. provided by the router?   I'm a bit worried that I might have to "reset" everything which would be a huge **bleep** since almost all of what I want to do is working just fine, I'm just not quite clear some times whether the process of connecting from one computer to another, or to a NAS attached to the router is going through the wired network or the wireless one where performance can be a big issue.  My Ethernet is "certified" at 1gbps which is a lot faster than the wireless networking.  Sometimes it seems that accessing the NAS attached to the router is being done "through a tiny straw, not the fast pipe in the wiered world.  I used to do a lot of NETBIOS networking in Windows "back in the day" and my network naming conventions have probably not kept up with the times, but I still have two Windows XP computers wired into my household network, and when "debugging" things I think of the Ethernet as central and the wirless portions as additional networks, not the other way around.  Unfortunately Windows 7 seemed to grab the wireless names first, probably because the machines in question both have wireless and wired connectivity built in and available in their hardware and the one that was set up and working with the old router when the new one got plugged in was used to do the initialization initially using the default sequence built into the router software.  I was able to go back and rename everything to get rid of the default names, but my Android based network monitor only works within range of the router and not when the phone is connected to the internet outside of the house.  I've never been able to get the phone support folks to help me clear that issue up either. ..  When I added the second computer, the same thing happened out of the box, Windows took the name of the first wireless network it found and put it into the network neighborhood as the device in the path between the new computer and the internet,   I can "see" the host name of the router correctly from everywhere, and map to the 1TB disk I have hung on it from all of my computers, but the Internet connection is actually an ethernet drop from a cable modem to an ethernet port on the router, not to either of the wireless bands that show up.

@zundapman Hi! What's the current firmware of your router? Make sure that your firmware is up to date with the latest version. Also, are you referring to the Windows explorer's map or the User Interface map of the router or the Network and sharing map of your computer?

    Hello All
Does anybody know if the Linksys Router WRT-1900AC will support Dynamic Frequency Selection(DFS) by a newer Firmwareupdate?
I don't understand why this feature has not been added yet
Second why does i have to set the 5GHZ WLAN to mixed to use AC. for me it is better when there is a Mode AC only.
    thanks for your help

Your best bet would be to phone contact your regional Linksys support office and ask them about this. Ask them if this model doesn't support it, which one does, if any. Let us know how it goes please.

Sorry you didn't get an answer faster but you have to know this is a peer to peer forum. it is users helping other users so not always the quickest way. First off, can you change your ISP router to modem only mode? It is best that way as you will get conflicts such as what you are seeing when there are two routers in the same link. You are getting the ISP router when you enter 192.168.1.1 because that is its address on the LAN side. It appears that your router is getting set to a 10.x IP because of the setup. You have two routers trying to work with DHCP so that is also an issue. If you can change the ISP router to modem only mode then once it is up disconnect it from the router and do a factory reset on your router and make sure it has the IP of 192.168.1.1 and you will then be able to make any changes you need to. the default login is password of admin and leave the user blank.

  • WRT 1900AC factory reset issues!

    Hi everybody,
I bought my wrt router 1900ac a couple of days ago as to upgrade my existing EA4500. I have (had) my ea4500 wireless router setup as a bridge as my dhcp is set via a mikrotik router. Anyway, I tried to setup the wrt 1900ac the same way. what happened next was that i could not access the router setup page anymore. it keeps forcing me to go to the linksyssmartwifi page and tells me the router is not setup properly. i have tried to reset the router via holding the red reset button to no avail. i mean i have held it from 10 second to upward of a minute. i am out of ideas. please help!

    ahonari,
I reset my WRT1900AC to factory defaults by holding in the recessed reset button for 30 seconds. You can see the LED's on the front and see when the router reboots and resets itself.
After reset connect to the router's LAN port and click the link below:
    http://192.168.1.1
When you get to the setup page you can bypass the setup wizard and configure your router. At the login page you can either login with your Smart Wifi Account or click the Local Access link to bypass Smart Wifi. Bypassing Smart Wifi disables those cloud services. If you later want Smart Wifi Services when you login on the router click the Login to Smart Wifi link.

  • WRT%$G dropping wired connect frequently

Trying to setup a wireless internet with WRT54G v.3 ( using latest firmware 4.2.1 1/30/2007) on Comcast IP w/VOIP modem (Arris TM502G). Seems to work fine when using only MAC address specific. However when adding WEP encyyption, it frequently drop the wired connection. Sometimes the drop is momentary and it reconnects itself. Other times, I have to restart the router. I've been through much of the forums and have spent much too much time on the issue. Problem remains. Currently using borrowed Actiontec MA424WR without issue. Please help would like to get the WRT going so I can return the Actiontec. Thought maybe your technical crew will have an answer for me...thanks Paul

I assume you mean you are using 4.21.1 firmware.
After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, then please do it now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Also, many users have found that WPA works better than WEP.  Please try WPA encryption.

  • WRT 1900AC Firmware Update release date?

I've recently purchased one of these routers (and I'm on my second replacement device), unfortunately as many others have reported the device reboots frequetly and randomly.
The latest firmware has "known issues" and I am wondering how much longer its going to be before LinkSys devepment releases an update to address all the issues?
I've been on contact with technical support several times and have been provided nothing more than an apology regarding the known issues and the promise of a call back from their engineering team, which I've yet to hear from.
I've been a long time customer of LinkSys / Cisco products, but I;m beginning to question if these devices can be properly supported in the future.

What version of FW is currently loaded? I presume the latest?
Was the FW updated via auto update or manually?
If auto update, I recommend doing the following:
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
I had my 1900AC online for 30 days with out any reboots however I avoided using the Network Map app is all. Thats a known issue with that cuasing reboots is all. I didn't experience any other reboots while using the router. Just don't use the Network Map app. They know about it and are working on it. Usually FW updates could be from 6-8 months depending on development and testing phases.
I'd do a clean reload of the FW using the above steps and set up from scratch. Do use that app either.
Patience is needed as well. FW updates just don't appear out of thin air for now reason. Many things happen before FW updates gets posted.

  • WRT 1900AC WAN Port Speed

I'm using a Motorola SB6141 cable modem and it seems that since I upgraded the Linksys to the latest firmware,  1.1.8.164.461, my Cable Modem thinks it's connected to a 100Mb port rather than a 1Gb port.  (Cable modem link light is flashing amber, rather than blue)  Has anyone seen this or suggest what to do to resolve?  I was looking for a way to configure the WAN port but don't see any option to do so. I've also factory reset my modem, router, and reloaded the latest firmware, as well as swapped cables, with no change.

Solved it myself by doing a hardware reset and reloading the firmware.

  • WRT 1900AC Notification Light Issues (May be Normal)

Hello.  I'm hoping another owner, or a Linksys technician/moderator can help me out with this.  I bought my WRT1900AC in July.  I noticed once, about a month ago, I came home and the 5GHz notification light was not on.  I didn't check connectivity but restarted the router and it came back on.  I noticed the other day when I came home that it was off again and did the same thing to bring it back on.  This morning, and just now (coming home from work), it was off again.  I simply turned this laptop on and as soon as it connected the light came back on.  The 2.4GHz radio notification has never gone off.  Is this normal?  I'm wondering if nothing connected to a given radio that the light naturally goes off after a certain period of time? I thought that it would stay on but solid when nothing was connected to indicate it was broadcasting and would flicker when actually communicating with a device. Any advice would be helpful.  My initial conversation with Linksys was based on the thought that the radio itself was turning off/failing.  It appears that it is actually the light only.  If it isn't normal, I'll contact Linksys again.

Then, I recommend doing the following: Download the FW file from the support site first.
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.

  • WRT 1900ac Smart wifi QoS settings

    Hello,
I am the proud owner of this powerful device, but some aspects do not seem to be working as expected. I am trying to set up some semblance of QoS on it, but it seems all I can do is prioritize certain devices and not throttle problem folks. Here's what is happening: I use a small amount of data to play an online game and chat in mumble. The percentage of data this uses is miniscule compared to the bandwidth. When my upstairs roommate comes home, he uses quite a bit of bandwidth, watching Youtube videos, netflix, gaming, streaming pandora, and chatting on skype. Whenever he is home, my access suffers and suffers badly to the point I am disconnected from my services and have to start them back up again, only to suffer exreme lag and issues until he goes to bed.
So I used the Media Prioritization feature to give my computer as well as the ports of my game priority, but I'm still getting knocked off whenever he is home and hogging the bandwidth. I've asked him to tone it down, but he's 19.
I was hoping for a way to limit the slice of the overall bandwidth he's allowed, but I don't see anything other than the Media Prioritization that isn't working to help me out.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at the point of moving out because this is the only dealbreaker for me, but I want to explore any and all options before taking that drasic a measure. When I went out and purchased this device it was with the expectation it would help our household usage issues. It's not.
    Thanks!
    a

Maybe number for display document reference, not sure if the numbers mean priorities though. See you tomorrow...

  • WRT 1900AC no longer manageable via web browser?

I suspect this is an artifact of recent security upgrades in MSIE and Firefox, or Norton Internet Security, but I have not figured it out yet.  Here are the symptoms:
1).  I have a stable home network environment which I normally do not change.
2).  I use Comcast as my ISP and they provide Norton Internet Security which habitually complains about a "certificate" issue when I try to access my router via a web browser (I have MSIE 11 x64, Firefox, and Chrome...
    3)   I can log into the router locally using the password I have assigned to it sometimes...
    4)   No matter what I try, the Speed Test page no longer loads completely.  I can use an Android version of the same software via the router, but I want the stats directly from the connection between the Cable Modem and the Router, not a wireless based approximantion of the performance numbers.
Has there been a BIOS upgrade to my router that did not self-install?  I registered everything and can log into Linksys suppor no problems., but right now, none of my browsers will even let me log into the Linksys web page at 192.168.1.1./...the way they used to.
Obviously, some of this could be a trainsient issue with the Speed Test web site, and/or the Linksys web pages but...Is there any help out there?

What version of FF are you using?
Try IE with compatibility mode to test again?

To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following: Download the FW file from the support site first.

    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.

  • NO IPv6 with WRT 1900AC

IPv6 works w/o Router directly connectd to ISP
It does not work with Firmware 1.1.8.161917 and previous Frimeare 1.1.7.160.177

If you read the original post, you'll see that he says that it works "w/o Router directly connectd to ISP", which I assume means at the modem. Could be a bad assumption, though *smile*.
You do have to have a modem that supports IPv6, but they must have that.to be able to say that it works directly from his ISP. If I'm misinterpreting that original post, and you've just been told by your ISP that it should work without seeing IPv6 directly plugged into your modem, then yes, your modem has to support IPv6, and not all do.
I've also got to wonder if the OP did a reset to factory defaults after flashing, before configuring the router manually. That can be the problem if things that should work aren't working.
Also, if you have the guest network on, that can be a problem, there is a known interaction between IPv6 and the guest network. If that's the case, I would turn off the guest network, reboot your router, and see if IPv6 works. The problem is that if you reboot your router with the guest network on, that causes IPv6 to stop working (as I recall). So if you need to reboot your router, turn off the guest network, reboot it, and then turn the guest network back on...that should keep IPv6 working.

  • WRT 1900AC USB hard drive

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how many hard drives I can connect at the same time to my router as it has 2 USB ports.
Also is there a way of speeding up the transfer rate from my router to my laptop while using the usb device?
It seems to buffer quite a bit while I'm watching a movie off my hard drive.

You can plug two USB drives simultaneously to the router. One way of improving the transfer speed between the router and the computer is to lessen the load of the computer's processor by closing some programs running on the computer when transferring files.
