WSUS Client delayed update detection after assigned to new group
Hello, fellow forum dwellers,
I'm experiencing some issues with my WSUS Client Management and couldn't find any answer in the library or forums. Thus I decided to write here:
Issue
When registering a new computer with WSUS and assigning a group, the updates, that have been assigned to that group aren't released to the Computer (searching will only yield the list available to the default group). After some hours (I'm currently trying
to measure just how many) suddenly the updates will become available as intended.
Why does it bother me?
That wouldn't bother me all that much for permanent clients (Using the term "client" to refer to WSUS client, independently of the actual OS type), however much of our work is spent rolling out devices to customers (who ought to receive them fully
updated). Completely non-uniform, preinstalled but non-updated hardware and OS rule out preupdated installation images unfortunately. This is putting a significant delay in our time spent on each individual device (and is sometimes putting a serious bottleneck
in our operation).
Infrastructure:
WSUS OS: Windows Server 2003 R2
WSUS Version: 3.2.7600.226
Computer-Folder Assignment: Serverside
Client-Configuration: Registry Modification (Clients are not domain members, settings are applied via Powershell Script)
Client OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 2008 R2, SBS 2011, 2012
Client OS Architecture: x64 & x86
Localization: All clients & WSUS have uniform timezone and language
Any insights and help welcome :)
Cheers and thanks in advance,
Fred

After adding the computers to the group to get WSUS to recognize the new group you need to run the command on the client
wuauclt.exe /detectnow /resetauthorization
The /resetauthorization part is the one that makes sure the client checks to see which group it belongs to in WSUS.
The delay you are experiencing is the amount to time the client takes to "check in" with WSUS.
Hope this helps.

SCEP client not updating settings after policy retrieval
I have a computer assigned a SCEP policy, that seems to have been found and Applied fine by the SCCM Client, looking at the registry.
I find the policy in the regkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\EPAgent\GeneratedPolicy, With the DWORD values
Just a test to my computer (Excluded) REG_DWORD 0x00000002 (2)
Just a test to my computer (Scan Schedule) REG_DWORD 0x00000002 (2)
What I have configured in this test policy is just "Limit CPU usage during scan to: 10%" and "Start the scheduled scan only when my PC is on but not in use"
But the SCEP Client, in the settings, do not show the correct settings. The CPU limit setting is set to 20% and the "Start the scheduled scan" setting is unchecked, these settings come from the "Default Client Antimalware Policy"

How do i update Apps after creating a new Apple ID?
I created a new Apple ID to seperate my account from mmy Son's account. We've had the same account going to two different phones since he was in Middle School - he is now in college and with iCloud I really don't want all his music and contacts etc.
The problem is - even though I set my iPhone (3GS) to access my new account - it's not allowing me to update Apps that are currently on my phone purchased under my old account. It asks me for the password to the old Apple ID.
Is there a way to update the Apps I already purchased though my new account? If you know the old password, it should allow you to update.
However, if you want to redownload the app fresh, you will have to delete it from your phone first. Also, delete it from your iTunes so it will not try to sync the old version back on.
NOTE: The deleting/redownload app worked for me when I switched AppleIDs, but I also wiped the phone and started with a fresh library in iTunes. I did this because I wanted no trace of my old AppleID anywhere. I was able to redownload apps with my new ID, and everything now is tied to my new one. -
Unable to update iPhoto after doing the new OS X Mavericks update.
I just did the new update, OS X Mavericks. Everything works except for my iPhoto. It says I can not use this application "iphoto" with this type of mac. I have iPhoto 9.3.2. When i go to update iPhoto it says "update unavailable with this apple id." I've had the same apple id, haven't changed anything since day 1.. help!
Sign out of the App Store and then sign back in and try to download iPhoto 9.5.1. It should be a free download.

Updating apps after moving to new country
I have read the previous discussions but they provide no help for my situation.
I have moved from Sweden to Germany and now my (many) apps are not updating in iTunes. I can update any apps bought in the German store but any bought previous to my move a) do not show up in the purchased list and b) though iTunes tells me there are updates available I cannot update them.
I would expect all of my apps to be listed in the purchased list regardless where I bought them.
Also, it has been suggested I delete them all and reinstall from the German store but they are not all available form the German store.
Please advise me how I can untangle this terrible mess!
And please tell me when Apple will improve this aweful service. It really makes me long for an Android.I think the whole Apple ID situation is a horrible nightmare, not entirely, but mainly Apple's fault. (Amazon is another 'global' player with national stores which don't sell the same things.)
I live in France, visit the UK regularly, speak French, but prefer to do my shopping in English (also there are apps I use when in England not available on the French store).
Example:
when in France I want the SFR app on my iPad
when in the UK I want the iPlayer app.
I have one Apple ID which I use to got to the UK store and another to go to the French store. For each I give a different country of residence and a different bank card. I can't understand why I can't have one ID with different cards for the different countries. People do travel... ...
Syncing between my iMac, iPad and iPhone is a headache also, as I have to remember which ID I have configured on each device.
And don't get me started on global internet companies (Apple is by no means alone) which treat country of residence as the same thing as language of choice.
My 27-year love relationship with Apple is beginning to sour. -
ISE 1.2 Patch 7 ERS API problem updating some endpoints with a new group
Hi,
I have a php library that i have implemented most of the ers api functions with curl requests, and it works fine, i can get all endpoints, search for a specific endpoint, delete endpoints and to some degree i can modify endpoints, but not all endpoints it seems. For some reason when i use my function on some endpoints, the static endpoint group assigment does not get updated, and the response from the ers api is just empty, whereas when it goes good, i get a list of the attributes that were updated.
Is there some specific requirements for which information has to be sent using the update_endpoint function in the ers api ? The examples have all information in every request, however what is actually needed in the request?
JanHave now tested by sending all parameters, even though i only want to change group or description, and it works.

Self-registration user assigned to anonymous group auto
hi experts,
how can i make the user self-registration user belong to anonymous group, not everyone group
best regards
zlfNormally self registered users automatically assigned to everyone group. If client needs they should automatically assign to someother group , it is the only possibility in my point.
Ulitimately when modifying standard groups, this consultant should think about it whether modification really needed ?
It is just an idea

(2) Stopped Windows Update Services, renamed SoftwareDistribution folder and started the window update services and rebooted.
(3) Ran MS FIXIT
(4) Ran System File checker Scan (sfc /scannow)
(5) Ran CHKDSK /F
(6) Installed "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers from Lenovo site
(7) Ran Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)
None of the above possible recommended solutions were able to fix the issue yet and now I am getting a message your Window is Not Genuine!
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution. The Lenovo System Update installed the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver 8.9.2.1002" right before the Windows Upgrade got broken. So in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, on the Driver Tab, I choose the option "Roll Back Driver" and after rolling back the driver and restarting the OS, now Windows Update is working like a Champ!

Clients cannot update from WSUS server - error 8024400E
Alright, so I'm troubleshooting our WSUS server and seem to be stuck. I am running WSUS 3.2.7600.226 on Server 2003. The client I have been using for testing is Windows 7 x64, but we have this issue on all clients (XP, 7 x86, and 7 x64). I started
with an error of 800B0001 and after googling installed KB2720211 to fix it. Now I am getting error 8024400E on clients when I attempt to update. I followed a technet walkthrough and verified that my WSUS settings are all correct (at least regarding iis,
registry, gpo settings, and file system permissions). I am able to download CAB files from the WSUS server by going to the proper address in a browser. Here is a snippet from my WindowsUpdate log on my client:

I focused in on "GetAuthorizationCookie failure, error = 0x8024400E, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 400, HTTP status code = 200" and did some googling which all points at Microsoft Office 2003 SP1 update as being the culprit, and I followed
the instructions on a technet site to disable the update and am still getting the same error. I'm stumped at this point, and I thought I would post here in the hope that someone can help me before I end up just wiping it out and reinstalling (which I'm worried
won't even solve it).I focused in on "GetAuthorizationCookie failure, error = 0x8024400E, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 400, HTTP status code = 200" and did some googling which all points at Microsoft Office 2003 SP1 update as being the culprit, and I followed

While you're definitely on the right track, the Office2003SP1 update really has not been an issue since WSUS Service Pack 2 was released in October 2009 (and really, the Office2003SP1 update that was the cause of this was replaced long before that even,
so you probably don't even have the defective update on your server).
However, the error is generally associated with the presence of defective update(s) on the WSUS server, so the first thing to do is address any potential issues caused by a failed install of KB2720211.
If the error still persists after verifying that all other aspects of the server are fully operational, review the list of not-Declined updates on your WSUS server and make sure that:
All Expired updates are Declined (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the expired updates).
All approvals for older revisions have been removed (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the older revisions).
All approvals for superseded updates have been removed. (And then, when they report as 100% Not Applicable, decline them, and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard so that it can delete the files associated with those updates).
Once all of the potentially problematic updates have been removed from the view of the Windows Update Agent, and if this error then persists, we can evaluate it from a more focused perspective.

WSUS on Server 2012 Essentials; Clients not Updating
Hi, I believe I have configured the server correctly,as per the numerous online instructions, but I just cannot get any of our clients to appear in the WSUS console.
I'm attaching the contents of one of the client logs in case this can shed light on it:

Domain Group Policy changes causes clients to be unable to connect to WSUS for Windows Updates
Domain Controller is Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, Group Policy Management version 6.0.0.1. WSUS server is Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 32-bit, Update Services version 3.2.7600.226. Client machines are Windows 7, some are 64-bit and some are 32-bit.
Every time we make any changes to any of our Group Policies most of our clients stop getting their Windows Updates from the WSUS server within 2-3 days. This occurs when we add a new policy for a group of users, temporarily disable a policy or edit a policy.
Check of the WindowsUpdate.log on affected client machines shows:
2014-06-25 13:40:44:976 760 1610 PT WARNING: GetAuthorizationCookie failure, error = 0x80072EE2, soap client error = 5, soap error code = 0, HTTP status code = 200

2014-06-25 13:40:44:977 760 1610 Report WARNING: Reporter failed to upload events with hr = 80072ee2.
A further check of the log files shows:
2014-06-21 19:36:06:995 156 1b0c Misc WARNING: SendRequest failed with hr = 80072ee2. Proxy List used: <proxy server name:8080> Bypass List used : <(null)> Auth Schemes used : <>
We do not use a proxy except for Internet connections. We configure IE with a pac file. This is set through Group Policy since we restrict user accounts from being able to set it.
The clients that are connecting to the WSUS server have these entries instead:
2014-06-24 09:12:16:779 992 270 Agent Setting download properties on call A20329BC-3467-4B7E-B9F4-6AC6ACBA23E1: priority=3, interactive=1, owner is system=0, proxy settings=1, proxy session id=2
I have a routine that will fix the problem but it is time-consuming and pulls me away from other things I should be doing:
Run registry files on client machine (WindowsUpdate and AU) This is not always necessary and is already set by Group Policy and the affected clients already have the registry settings. No idea why it is necessary to do but it the steps below don't always
work unless it is.
netstop bits and netstop wuauserv
ipconfig /flushdns
Delete qmgr*.* files from Downloader folder
Delete Software Distribution folder
Run from command prompt:
sc.exe sdset bits D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
sc.exe sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
netstart bits and netstart wuauserv
wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
Run Windows Updates again from Control Panel
This routine always fixes the problem but I've found that I must do each step to guarantee success.
How or where is the proxy setting being changed for WSUS that we see in the WindowsUpdate logs and how do I prevent this from happening? It is also curious that it happens to most but not all of the client machines. When it does happen it's not always the
same client machines. You're right - the WSUS server is on the inside and does not need a proxy server. Tried running the netsh winhttp reset proxy command but was still not able to connect to the WSUS server. After running the netsh winhttp reset proxy command received response:
Current WinHTTP proxy setting: Direct access <no proxy server>.
Ran the command at 13:49 and then tried Windows Updates again. Here's snippet from the log file:

After this runs, am able to connect to WSUS server for updates. I mentioned Group Policy changes because this only breaks after the Group Policy changes. It doesn't affect every client machine but most of them. Was wondering how the proxy gets reset from
none to the proxy server for Windows Updates? -
Hello all, after many iteration of trying to fix 11 DSS running Windows 2008 R2 WSUS 3.2 SP2 sync issues with parent USS, we have decided to gradually move towards WSUS 6.3.9600.16384 on Windows 2012 R2.
I have already built a Windows 2012 R2 WSUS server (which will eventually replace the current 2008 R2 WSUS 3.2 SP2 master server) The sync is OK. There was no error on the data base side or anything.
The idea now is to gradually pick one DSS, rebuild it with Windows 2012 R2 WSUS service, and sync it with newly built and to be main primary server. The fact that I actually picked up a working WSUS 3.2 and rebuilt it with WSUS 6.3, will the clients still
talk back and connect? Or this version uses totally different update engine..in that case, how is it all going to work?
ShahidulThe fact that I actually picked up a working WSUS 3.2 and rebuilt it with WSUS 6.3, will the clients still talk back and connect?
Theoretically, yes; but in practicality, probably not.
Almost certainly your original WSUS v3 server was installed to the Default Web Site (port 80). WSUS v6 servers default to their own v-root on port 8530, so at a minimum you will need to reconfigure the GPO that tells the clients where to find their WSUS
Server. However, once you do that, the clients will register automatically.
The second part of this question relates to target groups.
If you're using Client-Side Targeting and you've created the groups on the new WSUS Server, the clients will automatically register in their policy-assigned groups.
If you're using Server-Side Targeting, you'll have to use the console to reassign the clients from "Unassigned Computers" to their correct target group(s).

WSUS clients reporting, but not recignizing that they need updates
Ok, so here we go. This issue is affecting all of my clients.
What I am running:
WSUS v3.2.7600.226 on Server 2008-R2
Clients are
Server 2008-R2
Server 2008-SP2
Windows 7
All of my clients are reporting to the WSUS server. Updates have been approved for all of them.
The WSUS control panel is showing that each client is in need updates, each client needs between 65-85 updates.
This WSUS server is not connected to the internet, so all of the updates were imported from one that is connected to the internet and they are stored locally.
I’ve checked the WindowsUpdate.log and what I think I am seeing is that the clients are checking in with the WSUS server, but are not seeing that they need any updates.
The log file is below.
I ran the “Solarwinds WSUS Diagnostic’s Tool”, and everything came back as good, except the “CONTENT”.
The error that is displayed is “Incorrect proxy client configuration – use settings tab to test proxy configuration settings; may also be caused by misconfigured SSL implementation or access rights on WSUS Server.”
- I am not using any sort of proxy settings.
- I am not using an sort of SSL
- As far as misconfigured access rights on WSUS server… I don’t think they are set incorrectly.
If I browse to http://SRV-WSUS-E3/selfupdate/wuident.cab I am able to download the wuident.cab.
Hopefully I didn’t cause this with conflicting group policy, my group policy settings related to WSUS are as follows:
Allow automatic Updates immediate installation – Enabled
Allow non-administrators to receive update notifications – Enabled
Automatic Updates detection frequency – Enabled, 4 hour interval (I plan to change it to 24 hours once things are working)
Configure Automatic updates
Configure automatic updating – 4 – Autodownload and schedule the install
Scheduled install day – 0 Every day
Scheduled install time – 1900
No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations – Disabled
Reschedule Automatic Updates Scheduled instllations – Enabled
Wait after system startup (minutes) – 1
Specify intranet Microsoft Update service location – Enabled
Set the intranet update service for detecting updates –
http://SRV-WSUS-E3
Set the intranet statistics server – http://SRV-WSUS-E3
Turn on recommended updates via Automatic Updates – Enabled.
Any help or advice would be appreciated! Also, if more info is need to diagnose please let me know!
Here is most recent entry in the WindowsUpdate.log files from one of my Windows 7 clients. Another Windows 7 client's log was virtually identical.

KenI ran the “Solarwinds WSUS Diagnostic’s Tool”, and everything came back as good, except the “CONTENT”.
The error that is displayed is “Incorrect proxy client configuration – use settings tab to test proxy configuration settings; may also be caused by misconfigured SSL implementation or access rights on WSUS Server.”
This particular issue is discussed in a couple of other threads, and I think I also posted it back to the SolarWinds Thwack forum for the tool. This is caused because your WSUS server has the "Directory Browsing" role service enabled in the Web Server role.
If this is a dedicated WSUS server, then that is an erroneous configuration, causing IIS to return an HTTP 403.14 error to the Diagnostic Tool, and it's displaying the standard error text for detecting an HTTP 403 error. This is a defect in your WSUS server,
and the fix is to disable the Directory Browsing role service in the Web Server role. If this is not a dedicated WSUS server, then the question is whether there are any other web applications or web services that require Directory Browsing to be enabled. If
not, then you should remove the role service. If so, then this is a normal indication for your implementation because IIS is returning an error to the Diagnostic Tool.

This message is generated because you have an update on your WSUS server that needs to go away. Typically this is caused by an expired (read: defective) update that still has an active approval. Find the update, decline it.

And that defective update is most likely blocking this client from being able to scan the rest of the available updates and successfully detect any needed updates.
Also, btw, I note that this server does not yet have KB2720211 installed.

Mobile Sync not update the client or remote store after first sync
Subject: OracleLite 9i does not update the client or remote store during synchronization with a Windows CE device
After the first synchronization, neither the client or remote stores are updated on future synchronization when the publication is created with the fast refresh option. If the publication is created with the complete refresh option, the server will update the client, but the client cannot update the server after the first synchronization. That is once the database (.odb) file is downloaded from the server on the first connect, no updates to either the client, or server are performed for a publication created with the fast refresh option, and only the client store is updated when the publication is created with the complete refresh option. These result are obtained whether I use MSync via Microsoft Active Sync, or I use the Embedded VC++ program I wrote to initiate the synchronization from the Windows CE device.
I am 99% sure the JAVA code that I am programmatically creating the publications with, and the Embedded VC++ code for initiating the synchronization from the Windows CE device are correct. Both programs adhere exactly to the example code provided either in the documentation, or in the sample code shipped with OracleLite 9i Release 5.0.1. My conclusion is that there is a problem with Oracles replication programs either on the Windows CE, or Server side, or both. This conclusion on my part is strongly supported by the fact that MSync operating with Microsoft Active Sync behaves exactly the same as my code that initiates the replication from the Windows CE device. Also, by looking through the discussion forum, I gather that others are experiencing similar, if not identical, replication problems.
To support my contention that it is a Oracle problem, I have prepared a simplified version of the Embedded VC++ code to initiate the synchronization for the CE device, and the JAVA code for creating the publication. This code duplicates the problem and is easy to follow. You may download the zip file containing code via the link https://Yggdrasill.cfr.msstate.edu:4443/SyncProblem.htm or the link http://Yggdrasill.cfr.msstate.edu:7778/SyncProblem.htm. This zip contains the Embedded VC++ project files, that will compile and run correctly on a PocketPC with an Arm processor, or the PocketPC x86 emulator when you have the required include files, and libraries in the path. It also includes the JAVA code I used to create the publication. If you extend the VC++ code to run on additional platforms be sure to add the compile flag (directive) /D SQL_NOUNICODEMAP , and the library files olod2040.lib, and ocapi.lib in the library box from Project settings. On my system the paths to the Arm, and x86 libraries are C:\ORALITE501\MOBILE\SDK\WINCE\POCKET_PC\Arm\LIB, and C:\ORALITE501\MOBILE\SDK\WINCE\POCKET_PC\X86EM\LIB, respectively
I am using a NT 4.0 SP6a server with Database 9i Release 2 Enterprise edition, and OracleLite 9i Mobile Server Release 5.0.1. The Windows CE test device is an iPac running Pocket PC, connected to a system running Windows 2000 Professional SP2, and Microsoft Active Sync 3.1.
Please review this problem documentation, and tell me what I am doing wrong, or point me to a location where I can get a patch to fix the problem.
Thanks,
Thomas G.Matney
