WWAN ready / capable

Hi,
I'm looking for laptops with WWAN built-in.  However, I don't see that option when I'm shopping on the official website. In the wireless section, the only choices is related to Wifi / bluetooth, not WWLAN.
Is there a way to screen all the ThinkPad model equipped with WWAN?  or does it show anywhere whether the model is WWAN ready or WWAN capable?  thanks!

only new line of laptops 2013' have a chance to support new LTE cards. Not all of them, but a part.

  • Combining 4G LTE & global ready capability?

I have been holding out for an HTC Incredible 4G LTE device because an authorized Verizon dealer (but not a Verizon-owned store) told me a couple of months ago that it looked like it would be Verizon's first "tri-mode" (for want of better words) phone - i.e.: it will work on GSM, 4G-LTE and older 3g/CDMA (or whatever I should call them) networks.
However,Verizon is taking its sweet time about bringing this phone out and in the meantime Verizon support will not confirm for me this capability.
In the meantime, a Verizon customer service person recently told me that Verizon will be modifying the software side of the Rezound, RAZR and Bionic so they can do GSM, but that there was no timetable.  I was disappointed not to get a timetable.
The net effect is that I keep checking my hardware upgrade path and filters and if I check off both 4G and Global Ready then I get no phones
So, I came here to write this out for two reasons.
First I'd like to hear from any fellow Verizon customers who may use this to see what their thoughts are, particularly if you regularly travel outside the US and have considered different options of what to do.  For example, in the past I have maintained a Verizon Escapade that I own for travel outside the US, but this is just not a good solution to me any more.  It's hard to make blanket statements about whether it's worth it for another user to stay with Verizon, but for you is Verizon worth it, given their failures on this front?  Even if I get a GSM capable phone, the cost of holding a conversation when receiving a call at my number in London, for example, will be so absurdly high that I will just use it to ask the caller if I can call them back, and then I will have to figure out a wifi or skype or vonage or other solution.  For me Verizon has so far been sort of worth it for reception and maybe one or two other reasons, but they tend to kind of "intensely dissatisfy" me on some points.
The other reason I came here was to see if anyone (Verizon CS or otherwise) could offer insight on my expectations for the GSM capability of the Incredible 4g LTE or some of the Android 4g LTE phones I've mentioned.  I've been checking that filter for one or two months and every day it has turned up blank (plenty of selection at ATT Wireless though).  However, today it shows that the RAZR and RAZR MAXX will offer me both "4G" (is this the same thing as 4G LTE) and "Global Ready" capability.  So, maybe  Verizon has finally officially made this possible?  Can anyone confirm?  If so, does it work properly, out of the box?  Would rather not be walking along on some expensive call on some street outside the US and have the call dropped due to poor glitchy early tech implementation.

Thank you jlsoaz for the well-written question asking precisely the same thing myself and my boss have been wondering for a long time.  My boss also noticed the change on the website today.  He called the trusty Verizon store and the guy did some research for us.
Verizon is releasing a software update to the Droid Razr and Razr Max.  This update rolls out to 10,000 devices at a time, so when it reaches you or the phones currently in stock is variable, but the process will end around the end of next month.
Supposedly this software update will allow a 4G Razr or RM to work on 3G GSM networks in most countries.  Not sure whether this is Quad-band GSM or not.  You will probably not be able to use a third-party sims overseas, though as most places don't have 4G sim cards yet.  Also, not even sure what the unlocking deal is for the sim slot on these 4G phones.  3G phones are pretty easy to unlock from VZ as long as you don't try it more than every 6 months.  I'd be interested to see if a 3G sim card would work in these phones, but I'm doubting it will work.  Please reply if you've tried, or even have the opportunity to try this.
So if you travel overseas and don't mind the exorbitant fees Verizon enjoys for using their international-roaming network, you can now have 4G at home and constant use of the same device.  If you want to change sim cards to gain access to the MUCH cheaper data plans available for travelers when you arrive to your overseas destination, you will probably still be stuck with the Droid 3 or other 3G CDMA/GSM capable phone.

  • Is my T500 ready for WWAN?

Hi!  I just bought a T500.  It's a XP Pro downgrade.  Model 2242-55U.  Wonder if this model is WWAN ready?  If yes, I would like to purchase a Lenovo AT&T 3G Broadband Option.  I am assuming it's a mini PCI express card.  Does anybody have experience in using this card?  Does it work (Because I heard the Sierra card seems has a lot of trouble in activating the service in T61p)?  Thank you.

    shishinn,
As far as the T61P was concerned, it wasn't the Sierrra card itself that was the problem. The problem was that the software program you were supposed to use to activate the WWAN service didn't work.
Several people got around this problem by calling AT&T directly to activate their WWAN service.

  • Problem with customer exit variable that is input ready as well

    Hello all,
I'm facing an issue with a customer exit variable that again has been defined as input ready. I'm not sure why it is working incorrectly and I#m wondering if this is a bug or if I do s.th. stupid.
The problem is that in the exit program ZXRSRU01 this varibale does not go into the program code I have prepared for this variable. I have added entry points for all three i_step values 1,2,3, but the code will never be touched and in debugging I can see that it simply pypasses the code for this variable.
I have tried to enter a value or to leave it blank, no difference.
When I run another test by just using a customer exit variable w/o input ready capability, then I have no issue, the exit does exactly what I have coded.
Does this mean, that a customer exit variable along with input readiness dows not work ?????
You may ask why I need this variable. Well, my intention is to use the input value of this variable A to derive other values for a complete different variable B. Afterwards I want to erase the input given into variable A to have it blank.
    Any comments are appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Heiko,
I assume A & B variables are defined on different Characteristics. If you wish to derive B based on A, you can create the Query Characteristic Restriction on B & have a dummy RKF restricted on A whose processing is by Manual Input; where processing of B is by Customer Exit. In istep 2 you can check for B, read A & derive B. There would not be a need to blank out A since the Query would not be restricted on A - you can hide the dummy RKF from showing in the output. Just a thought.

  • A deactivated AC 30 Fivespot -- Is it "global," GMS capable?

    Hi!
I found what seem to be very useful instructions for the Fivespot CA30 from Verizon:
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=39294
    QUESTIONS REMAIN:
    1. To connect the computer to the Fivespot AC30 in WiFi mode as described in the instructions, does the Fivespot HAVE TO BE currently on the Verizon network? I would like to use my deactivated former AC30 in Europe. I see conflicting information online. Inside the device I only see a reference to CDMA, not GSM. Also, the ZTE (manufacturer) manual online states the AC 30 Fivespot runs on CDMA, no mention of GSM. Elsewhere and on Verizon, however, I have seen references to the AC30 as a "global" device. True?
    2. Is there a SIM lock on the AC30? Or is the device itself locked so it can be operated only with a Verizon SIM?
In sum, the AC30, can it be used in Europe, i.e. on an GSM network? Does Verizon lock the device? I don't want any nasty surprises, having purchased a pre-paid data SIM card from KeepGo. This SIM card will require an unlocked, GSM-capable device....
    Thanks!

    Tamara,
Thank you for your reply. Okay, I still have 10 days. I canl go to a Verizon store and activate the AC 30. Will I then be able to have it unlocked for use in Europe WITHOUT a Verizon SIM? Is the AC 30 GSM ready / capable?

  • No WWAN antena

    Dear all
I bought recently new T400 notebook (product number 2765-51G). According to lenovo page, this notebook is WWAN upgradable. I have SIM card reader integrated, free PCIe slot for WWAN card, but I don't have antena cables (red and blue). I was not able to find proper contact email for the Slovakia support, so I'm giving a first shot here. I don't know, what to do now. I want to set a WWAN connection to the mobile operator in at last in three months, thats the time a have to resolve this issue. PCI-express card 3G modem is not solution, in that slot will be a SMART card reader soon.

Hi popo666, that technician is mistaken. I suggest you try again. Below is some information which may help you. Ask for a supervisor if you still have problems. Come back here and tell us how you do!
    1. The meaning of "WWAN Upgradeable" or "WWAN Ready" is clearly defined on Lenovo's web site:
    Wireless WWAN Ready
The Wireless WWAN Ready selection is the
option of choice for anyone who may already have an activated PCI
mobile broadband card. As well, anyone who may activate and install a
PCI at a later time, may want to consider this option. With the
exception of the provider card, all of the hardware needed for a
wireless wide area network will be included in the machine.
Please note, the Wireless WWAN Ready option is only available with select machines.
    2. Your T400 2765-51G is clearly listed as "WWAN Upgradeable" on the Lenovo website.
    3. The T400 datasheet says:
All T Series models are Wireless WAN (WWAN) ready.
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Purchase and install wwan card (modem) youself.
Look at the page below for details:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x200_x200s_x200si_x201_x201i_x201s_hmm_en...
Lenovo approved wwan cards for x200s are listed on the page below:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-70510#7
Select the card you need (it depends of the area where you are) and p/n (FRU). For almost worldwide carriers Gobi 2000 is good choice, in European netwoкs Ericsson F3507 will work too.
Modern external 3g/lte/wifi routers are the best choice if you need the capability of LTE FDD/TDD networks.
    UPD
Be sure your laptop is wwan ready i.e.has sim reader and wwan antennas.

  • Possible to manually install moble broadband modem later on?

I'm getting a thinkpad helix and was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to manually install the mobile wwan sim card slot manually after purchasing a model that does not include the mobile wwan feature? I found the same network card that thinkpad offers on amazon but don't know if I would be able to open the helix up and install the wwan card myself. Only reason I'm doing this is because I would like to buy the tablet now but lenovo doesn't offer any kind of financing so I'm going to use either ebay or amazon to buy a helix so I can use a credit limit I have with them to buy it. I'll have the money I just don;'t have the money right now. ANyway none of the helix on either ebay or amazon have 3g wwan capability which is the only problem. I want to be able to buy one on ebay or amazon and then install the wwan card myself. Would this be possible?

I don't know about sim card reader, but it's possible to add wwan card yuorself. Look at this service video under "Tablet FRU Videos" item:
    http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CourseWarePublic/18124/player.html
Usually all new generation ThinkPads are "wwan ready" i.e.have sim card slot and wwan antennas kit. In this case they don't include special mark regarding wwan ready features in short model description on Lenovo site in opposite of previous laptop generation.

Have been doing a ton of reading on different forums and everyone has come to similar conclusions that this is about as hard as it gets, but seeing as I will be moving around a lot in the next year and my organization has agreed to pay $2500ish for one here we are...
I was hoping to get your thoughts on the configuartion below. I am not a fan of Lenovo but this what a shop I was working with reccomended. You'll notice they make a couple of modifacation from what Lenovo gives them. My other big question is about these quattro video cards. I heard they work with the mecury playback engine for amazing results, but that other graphic cards can be unlocked and work just as well. I feel that if I opened it up to other graphics cards I would have more chocies from other companies.

In reply to the question about the Quadro GPU in comparrison to other nVidia cards. A useful table available on the nVidia website shows the specs of Quadro Mobile cards. If you compare the K2000M specs with the specs of the GTX660M, which is a mid to high end Kepler GTX card you will notice they are very similar except the 660M uses faster DDR5 memory and has a considerably better memory transer rate (28.8GB/s as compared to 64GB/s) perhaps only thanks to the faster memory since the momory interface is 128-bit in both cases. Oh also the Quadro cards will give 10-bit output compared to the GTX's 8-bit, which is only useful if you were going to plug a 10-bit external display into the machine.
Personally, if Lenovo had a higher end Kepler Quadro or a Kepler GTX card available I would have been more inclined towards them as a candidate for my own imminent purchase.
Inspite of saying that, you will find the two top laptops on the PPBM5 table are infact Quadro cards (not even Keplar) and they are in a Lenovo laptop. I suspect that the 'hobbling' or de-tuning that nVidia does to the mobile cards (compare the GTX660M to the GTX660) so they will run more comfortably in a laptop is much less for Quadro compared to the GTX cards.
I am not an expert and only reply in a sincere attempt to guide you to information available from nVidia and add my perspective. Others may like to comment...
    Goodluck
    Peter.

  • About T500 - 2055T501

I'm living in Romania, and I want to buy a laptop T500. And yesterday, I found one that has model 2055T501 with the configuration :
    Thinkpad T500 (PN 2055T501)
    - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) 25W
    - 15.4" WSXGA (1680x1050)
    - 2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    - 160 GB Hard Disk Drive 7200rpm
    - ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB,
    - DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA)
    - Integrated Wireless Antenna: 15.4", Bluetooth, WWAN Misc Parts - WWAN Ready full (F1)
    - Express Card Slot & Smart Card Slot
    - Integrated fingerprint reader
    - Battery 6 cell Lithium Ion (3,5 h)
    - 3 year customer Carry-In
But when I  looked for it on Google, I only can find it in Romania, not in another country. I don't understand. Is there this model in series T500 ? And I want to verify if it is produced in Lenovo ?
Can you answer me this question. Thank you all very much!

I don't see a 2055T501 in the tabook, though I don't know if the tabook is region-specific or not. Generally the part numbers are in the format of XXXX-?XX.

  • Mobile Internet - How to make it work? (X1 Carbon)

    Hello all
    so I got here a Carbon X1 with a 3G card.
However, after installing the latest driver from the lenovo website, the card is not listed in my hardware manager on Windows 8 and when clicking the Internet Access icon on the taskbar only the Wifi networks are shown.
Any help on this matter? Do I need additional software?
I have Windows 8 x64 and the SIM Card from Belgium.
    Thanks!

    ThomasVanhoutte,
Lenovo' the parts lookup service output isn't very informative (compare with this one http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/wlup), but as you see - 3g card is absent in your laptop.
In order to get 3g in your laptop you also should be sure your laptop is "wwan ready" i.e.has wwan antennas (unfortunately not all x1c laptops have that). Ask Lenovo' support or look at laptop invoice/order. But the best way - do it yourself. You should remove some details (screws and keyboard) and find out antenna wires, red and blue.
Look at X1C Service Training Course http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CourseWarePublic/14261/player.html and find out the sequence for access to 3g wwan card under FRU videos item. Do not forget unplug power cable and disable the battery in BIOS setup! All you need then remove sim card, 7 screws and keyboard bezel.
If you'll find wwan antennas be sure the wwan slot is half sized (as it is on training video) and just purchase 3g card. Presently X1C supports the only one half size 3g wwan card - Ericsson h5321w, FRU 60Y3297. You can purchase that in Lenovo' shop but the price is a bit expensive. So do it on another sites. Do not buy even the same card but with another part number. Another cards will not work in X1C.
I'll be surprised if your X1C will have new hw revision and wwan slot will be full size. In this case you'll have new choices for 3g wwan card selection.
Note according to Lenovo there are no Customer Replaceable Units (CRU) in X1C except for power supply. That means all manipulations I've described above should be done in service center only. As for me I don't understand why it is so in new line laptop models (to be exact I know but it's not for discussion here). So do it just carefully, do not destroy the parts of laptop and you'll not lose a warranty.

  • SIM Slot.. what is it for?

I just bought a new ThinkPad T450s. There is a SIM card slot at the right. What exactly is it for? If I pop in a SIM card, will I be able to use my laptop with it.. without Wifi?

    Hi
If your laptop has wwan card (wwan modem 3g or 3g+LTE) installed, you'll get mobile broadband internet access capabilities. If wwan modem isn't factory preinstalled, but laptop is "wwan ready" (i.e.has sim reader and internal wwan antennas), you can purchase and install Lenovo approved wwan cards for t450s yourself.
WWAN acces capabilities don't relate to wifi, both network adapters can work simultaneously.
To specify exact configuration you should provide laptop MTM (Machine-Type-Model).

  • 3G on X201

    Hello everyone.
Does the X201 ThinkPad support 3G (as in a SIM-card)? Under "network", it says:
    56K / Gigabit Lan / WiFi agn / Bluetooth / WWAN Ready
It's pretty crucial to me that it does include support for 3G before I buy, since I'll be using internet away from WiFi on a daily basis. Thanks!

Oh, I see. I can't find any Ericsson modems in my country, but I did find a Vodafone modem that costs half of the Gobi 2000, but only from one reseller. I'm not sure it'll work though, if not there really doesn't seem to be anything cheaper than the Gobi 2000. I don't even know if it has 3G, but it says GSM, so I figured that might include 3G.

    Hey All,
Looking at my options here as i believe i've exhausted my options in troubleshooting my current build to even post.
What is a compatible motherboard to the K8N Master2-FAR MS-9620?
Dual Socket 940 AMD 64 2xx Series CPUs
    ATX format
    Dual PCI-express SLI ready
    I've come across Tiger K8WE (S2877) but i don't believe it's SLI ready.
    http://www.tyan.com/archive/products/html/tigerk8we.html
Thoughts? Feedback? What others are out there?
    Thank you in advance.

computer worked no problem before, for a solid couple years - pretty mcuh sat for a while
broke it down  to troubleshoot: 1 cpu, new 1000 watt psu, 1 ram stick, 1 graphics card.
Interchanged out each individually and tested after each swap out - same results. Tryed different ram in different slots.
    Just keeps beeping.
I did get a new case. Would the case front panel connections cause issues?  hmmm?  but this was having same issues in first case (just didn't have a speaker connected to board to hear any beeps)
maybe i should disconnect the case connections and then try booting without it connected?
i'll try that, but at the same time - i've been hunting for another compatible motherboard to support the devices....with these being from 2005/2006 and technology advancing so fast - finding similar ATX board, with dual socket 940 opterons and SLI ready  capability is a bear.

All X61 models have the moulding in the body shell for a SIM slot, but they don't all have a SIM reader or antennas installed, let alone a 3G card.
Your 7666-B4G config shows as this....
    L7700(1.8GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 8c Li-Ion, WinVista Business
... so, IMO, its unlikely it is WWAN-ready at any level.

    T7100(1.8GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Fingerprint reader, 8c Li-Ion, WinVista Business
