Wwv_flow_file_objects$

Recently I blogged on a particular problem we encountered with flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$ (see http://iadvise.blogspot.com/2007/01/apex-flowsfiles.html)
Bottom line, the problem was that the tablespace of that table could not create extra extents anymore.
The main reason was that the developers forgot to delete the (intermediate) files from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES once the blob was copied into their target table.
Another reason was that some people didn’t have the habitude to clean the Export Repository from time to time.
For the latter the obsolete files can be removed via Export Repository Manager in the standard interface.
The other entries we had to clean via SQL.
I was wondering if there exists a more ‘structured’ way of removing those out-dated records. And if not, are there any plans for future releases?
In the meanwhile, is the use of this table somewhere documented: e.g. there exists a column FILE_TYPE, but very often this has no value ?
Another question is whether it is recommended to change the default storage settings (like initial/next extents) for this table and/or tablespace ?

I did some further investigations on the content of that table.
Read it here: http://iadvise.blogspot.com/2007/01/apex-housekeeping-your-flow-files-in.html
One of my assumptions is that entries where security_group_id = 0 and flow_id = 0, are 'orphan'-records and may be deleted without impact on apex or any custom-application.
I used following statement:
DELETE FROM wwv_flow_file_objects$
WHERE security_group_id = 0
AND flow_id = 0
AND file_type IS NULL
Is this correct ?

  • Images in wwv_flow_file_objects$  do not display in the shared components

    Recently I needed to re-create an APEX workspace. The schema was intact, so I just created a new APEX workspace mapped to that schema and re-imported my apps.
    All was well EXCEPT that the images and files (e.g. style sheets) previously uploaded to the database under the original workspace were missing. Looking at the wwv_flow_file_objects$ table I saw the images and files were present but their security ID did not match that of the new APEX workspace.
    I updated the security ID and the files and images now work BUT THEY DO NOT DISPLAY IN THE SHARED COMPONENT LISTINGS. My fear is that I'll try to upload an image or file by the same name and they'll stop working because there will then be two rows in wwv_flow_file_objects$ with the same file name and security ID.
    Does anyone know how to get these items to display properly in the shared component reports?

    If they were application-specific, you would need to ensure that the new flow_id value in the table matched that of the application to which the file should be associated. If not, that value should be zero.

  • Wwv_flow_file_objects$ access problem

    Hi,
    I'm writing a package to access the blob content from wwv_flow_file_objects$, but I keep getting a PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist on the line that references wwv_flow_file_objects$.
    I'm doing this as SYS and using TOAD as my procedure editor while logged in as SYS. I changed to the SYS user thinking it might solve the 'rights' problem, but didn't.
    Here's my code, if it helps some:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY COPY_UPLOADED_FILE as
    PROCEDURE parse_file(file_name_in IN NUMBER) is
    v_pos number := 0;
    v_lob_data blob := null;
    v_seq number := 0;
    v_length number := 0;
    begin
    select blob_content
    into v_lob_data
    from flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$
    where name = file_name_in;
    --v_lob_data := replace(v_lob_data, chr(13));
    v_seq := sus_reporting.log_work_seq.NextVal;
    while v_lob_data is not null
    loop
    v_pos := dbms_lob.instr(v_lob_data, chr(10));
    v_length := dbms_lob.getlength(v_lob_data)-v_pos;
    insert into sus_reporting.log_work values (v_seq, file_name_in, dbms_lob.substr(v_lob_data,v_pos,1));
    v_lob_data := dbms_lob.substr(v_lob_data,v_length,v_pos);
    end loop;
    end;
    end copy_uploaded_file;
    No idea yet if my code will work as I want, since I can't get to that point yet. In Microsoft Access I can get to the table, in SQL I get to the table, even in TOAD as both my user account and as SYS I get to the table. I just can't get the package to see it?
    All I want to do is parse an uploaded file (larger than 32k) that's tab delimited. Not sure if there's an easier way or not.
    Thanks,
    Bill Ferguson

    Well, I think I solved my problem. I created a SQL*Plus session and created the package body that way and I got it to compile without errors (after a couple changes unrealted to the flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$).
    FWIW, here's the modified code:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY "COPY_UPLOADED_FILE" as
    PROCEDURE parse_file(file_name_in IN NUMBER) is
    v_pos number := 0;
    v_lob_data clob := null;
    v_seq number := 0;
    v_length number := 0;
    begin
    select UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(blob_content)
    into v_lob_data
    from flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$
    where name = file_name_in;
    --v_lob_data := replace(v_lob_data, chr(13));
    --v_seq      := sus_reporting.log_work_seq.NextVal;
    while v_lob_data is not null
    loop
    v_pos := dbms_lob.instr(v_lob_data, chr(10));
    v_length := dbms_lob.getlength(v_lob_data)-v_pos;
    insert into sus_reporting.log_work values (v_seq, file_name_in, dbms_lob.substr(v_lob_data,v_pos,1));
    v_lob_data := dbms_lob.substr(v_lob_data,v_length,v_pos);
    end loop;
    end;
    end copy_uploaded_file;

  • Insufficient Priviliege on updating wwv_flow_file_objects$

    Hello,
    I created a file upload form. After the file being uploaded, I need to change the file name in wwv_flow_file_objects$. But it shows insufficient prvilliege. Is there anyway I can do it?
    UPDATE wwv_flow_files SET FILENAME = filename WHERE NAME = filename_in_page;
    Thanks

    JC,
    The standard operating procedure is to copy the file into a table where you have more control. This will require more work on your part to get set up however...

    When I compare the object grants in our APEX instance and my fresh XE install on my laptop, there are a lot of grants in my XE instance that don't exist in APEX. Some of those grants are to the flows_* schemas. Could we have lost a bunch of grants somehow, and if so how can we get them back? Is it safe to copy the grants from EX to APEX?
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Harry,
    I conclude that you have Application Express 2.2. You either installed it fresh or upgraded from an earlier version.
    You also have Application Express on your XE database.
    You observe differences in privileges (those you describe as "lost") between 2.2 and some earlier version, between 2.2 and XE or between 2.2 and the same 2.2 at some earlier time, I cannot tell which you mean.
    The correct configuration is that no select privileges are granted to public on wwv_flow_file_objects$. Users are to use the apex_application_files view (wwv_flow_files) while using the SQL Workshop or from developed applications in workspaces. Access through SQL*Plus is not supported.

  • Delete from wwv_flow_file_objects$ where file name like 'p1_name'

    I am having an issue deleting an object in my apex application. I have uploaded an object into the application i can open the application but i cannot delete from that application. I can delete it when i login to the server and provide this command:
    delete from wwv_flow_file_objects$ where filename like 'Whatever.pdf';
    I am looking for the code to assign to a button and how do i get it to process.
    process
    the code i currently have is this: DELETE from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES WHERE name = :P4_NAME and it is not working. What am i missing.
    process point = on submit
    run process = once per session
    when button is pressed pdf_remove
    name: pdf_delete
    button:
    action when clicked
    action - submit page
    execute validation - no
    database action - no database action "it does not show my process"

  • Can you upload to a file system directly and not to wwv_flow_file_objects$

    The following link shows how to upload a file. These files that are uploaded are stored in a table called wwv_flow_file_objects$ .
    However what if I want to upload a file but save it to the file system (share) and not put it into wwv_flow_file_objects$ is that possible
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31036_01/doc/appdev.22/b28839/up_dn_files.htm#CJAHDJDA
    When you use the file upload item type, the files you upload are stored in a table called wwv_flow_file_objects$

    It has to be loaded to wwv_flow_file_objects$, but you can use the
    UTL_FILE package to write it to a directory the database has access to. Use FOPEN with open_mode wb and use the PUT_RAW procedure to write into the file. Use READ procedure of the DBMS_LOB package to read your BLOB in junks.
    UTL_FILE: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/u_file.htm#i1003526
    DBMS_LOB: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_lob.htm#i999170
    I think that should work.

  • After upgrade HTMLDB 2.0, the browser can not launch MS words to view doc

    I create a page with an item to hold the file id in flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$. and use the htmldb_util.get_file(:P14_file_id) on-load before header process to allow user to view the documents under flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$ table.
    When we are still in HTMLDB 1.6, the window would pop-up to ask for Open, Save or Cancel. When we click open, the window would depend on the file extension to lauch the Ms Words or Excel or Acrobat reader to view the file.
    After we upgrade to HTMLDB 2.0, the window won't pop-up asking for open, save or cancel. Instead, it would open another Internet Explorer to try to read the file. Since the web browser could not read the MS words or excel, all of page display strange characters. I check the httpd.conf file and mime.type in the apache, everything looks fine with me. Could anyone provide me further information on the troubleshooting...

    >
    Does any one have this issue before?
    >
    Probably not because this is internal build so most of us don't have this version :)
    I suppose that there is internal forum for questions like this.

  • Browser error on APEX Login Page

    Good morning,
    Version Information:
    - APEX 3.1.1
    - Database 11.1.0.6.0
    - Application Server: 10.1.3
    I'm using the APACHE install on my APP server to connect to APEX.
    When I connect to the APEX_ADMIN login page, after filling in the blanks, I get a browser error message, not an APEX error. The "caution" icon pops up on the status bar at the bottom of the browser window. When I look at the message, it says:
    Line: 34
    Char: 1
    Error: Object expected
    Code: 0
    URL: http://<myservername>:7778/pls/apex/f?p=4550:10:7817059686490562
    That URL, of course is the login page.
    When I checked the status, the install completed successfully. I am listening on port 7778 mainly because those that came before me configured the app server's http.conf with 7778.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Don.

    Thank you for your responses,
    Yes, I'm pretty sure that my image alias is correct (see my DADS.CONF listing below).
    I am NOT upgrading from 3.0, this is a new, clean install. I'm still checking other possible causes. Not sure where to go next.

    Unfortunately I can't provide much help, other than that we have seen this before with 9iR2, but haven't yet figured out when this does occur, so not sure if it's related to a specific patch version. If possible, I'd recommend upgrading to database 10g or higher. And if we do figure out under what circumstances this problem comes up in 9iR2, I'll post this on the forum.
