X-Fi Audio Settings Not Remembered After Reboot - Solution

I have an X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCI-E on WIN7 64bit and I decided to try some different drivers, just out of curiosity. My drivers were working fine for the most part (except OpenAL BSOD) prior to this.
After changing drivers, Windows would no longer remember my audio settings, such as volume level and all the changes I made in the Creative Console Launcher (EQ, disable CMSS-3D, THX settings). After rebooting, the settings would revert to the default setting.
Solution:
I went into the Creative Audio Control Panel, to the "Restore Defaults" tab and, with all boxes checked, hit the "Restore Defaults" button. Whatever was causing it to not remember settings was cleared out and it now remembers all of my audio settings after restarting Windows.

Hy,
have you already tried to start the soundcard ?at other PCs?
Do you have this problem with other usb-devices at your PC, too?
What happens after standby or hibernate?
Does for example a li've linux or windows in secure mode detect the x-fi after startup?
Maybe this details can be helpful to find the reason. I could imagine, the died internal sound card is inhibiting windows in detecting any other audio device...
I've had a died touch pad (the left mouse button didn't work after ~5 minutes) and until disable it, the same problem happened with the other trackpoint mouse, too.

If other software products can keep their opened windows after the system is rebooted, why not the finder? This did work for many, many years now and I can only hope that this issue somehow has been overseen by Apple (although it's a very obvious flaw) and will be repaired with the next Update for Lion (which otherwise is working very, very well for me).

I am using XP, Firefox 17.0.1 and the latest version of flash. Have

then just started clearing everything out all by itself. No settings were
changed. There are some sites now such as my bank that do not even put
anything in the panel, like before. Other sites I used do not even request
to be allowed or denied. I can still use the sites that request space, but
as soon as I leave the page, everything is wiped out. I need to find
something else that actually works all of the time, unlike Adobe.

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

  • Preferred Program preferences not remembered after reboot

I have tried to set some file types to be opened by particular programs, and it only works until I turn off the Macbook Pro. For example, I set .pdf files to open with acrobat and it works fine until after I reboot. Then .pdf files open with preview. Also, I set Firefox to be the default web browser, but after rebbot it is again Safari. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks much!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Could Calendar services not available after reboot be LDAP problem?

    I followed this installation guide:
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite7U2/Communications+Suite+on+a+Single+Host+%28Linux%29#CommunicationsSuiteonaSingleHost%28Linux%29-InstallingCommunicationsSuite7Update2Software
I have successfully installed and set up the Oracle UCS Sun7 update 2 server. Calendar works ( if I don't reboot the server ).
However, when I reboot the server, Calendar service is unavailable.
Important information for when I installed Oracle UCS sun 7 update 2 by following the installation guide:
I have noticed when browsing through the folders, that there was already a 'dsee6' folder for the Oracle Linux I started from. Following the example installation for the Oracle Linux 5 with GlassFish install, I was instructed to download a new Directory Server. Following the instructions on page 7 of the install guide listed above, I made another folder 'dsee7'. I am wondering if I should never have downloaded this new Directory Server as instructed on page 6 "Get the Software". The install guide actually does not mention where to get the Directory Server from, so I just went to the edelivery site and figured it out myself. Anyways, under the "Installing and Configuring Directory Server" section, #3, I was instructed to "mv dsee7 /opt/sun/directory". In this folder, /opt/sun/directory/bin, there will be "./dsadmin" utility that can be ran. This is used to do many things with the Directory Server including starting it. Here is how I started it:
    cd /opt/sun/directory/bin
    ./dsadm create /var/opt/sun/directory/dsins1
    ./dsconf create-suffix "0=isp"
Also, I downloaded the Directory Server from edelivery - Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition 11gR1 Patch Set 1 for Linux x86-64
Then, I ended up running to get it set up:
    ./dsccsetup ads-create
    ./dsccsetup war-file-create
    $ ./dsccsetup cacao-reg
    ./dsccsetup status
Then, it looked like the dcss agent is registered in cacao.
So, if we forward ahead to page 9 of the install guide, "Preparing the Directory", I ran this and prepared the directory. After I finished installation, I could restart the Directory Server with no problems, as long as I did not reboot the machine. I would restart the Directory Server like so:
    cd /opt/sun/directory/bin
    ./dsadmin stop-domain domain1
    ./dsadmin start-domain domain1
However, if I rebooted the machine, I could still start and stop the Directory Server as noted. But, the Calendar Services were not available.
The only reason I wonder about this LDAP Server possibly being the cause of this is because I had at one point configured the services to start on boot. I followed these instructions:
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite7U2/Start+and+Stop+Scripts+for+Communications+Suite+%28Linux%29
I am using a VMSphere client to host this set up. So, since that point of configuring the services to start up, I have rolled the snap shot back so that the services are no longer set up to start on boot. But, when they were, and I rebooted the machine, I could see ldap 389 errors all over the place. So, that lead me to roll my snap shot back in effort to try and fix the ldap errors. I no longer get LDAP errors since I rolled my snap shot back. But, like I said, I no longer have any of the services, including the LDAP, to start on boot as noted in the above link that instructs us how to do this.
After reboot, I run these commands to get the server up and running:
    Start GlassFish server:
    cd /opt/sun/SUNWappserver/bin
    ./startserv
Start web ( Messaging Server I think ):
    cd /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/bin
    ./start-msg
Start LDAP ( Directory Server )
    cd /opt/sun/directory/bin
    ./dsadm start /var/opt/sun/directory/dsins1
    Start Mysql
    cd/etc/init.d
    ./mysqld start
All of those commands complete without problem. I can log into the convergence web, I can hit the delegated administrator, I can log into the GlassFish admin console, and I can see my calendar folder when I hit it in the web ( http://myServer.com/davserver/dav/home/userName/calendar/ ).
So, in summary, I am wondering if anyone knows if this supposed second Directory Server is causing my problems since I started with Oracle Linux 5 and Oracle Linux 5 appeared to have the folder dsee6 already installed with it. Could this be why my calendar services are not starting after reboot but are working before reboot?
( Also, all of my posts keep getting deleted. Can someone please email me if someone from Oracle is deleting my posts and tell me why they are getting deleted? )

  • "All Desktops" not staying after reboot

I have a few applications which I've set to show on all my desktops (iCal, 1Password, Communicator).
What I have noticed is that after reboot (with restore windows checked) that sometimes those applications do not show up anymore on all my desktops. If I check the setting I can see the option is still checked however. To "resolve" it I need to switch it to say "This Desktop" and then back to "All Desktops".
I'm working with 3 displays: external display (VGA through Thunderbolt) which is the primary, my laptop screen is a secondary monitor and I also have a USB display through DisplayLink as a third monitor. I always put these applications on my secondary monitor (laptop screen).
Anyone else seen this issue? It might be an issue with this in combination with multiple displays.
    Thanks.

I can confirm that this behavior is not caused by multiple displays; as I have the same problem using only one monitor.
I consistenly set my Terminal.app settings to show on all desktops, but once the system is rebooted it reverts to displaying on Desktop 1. One has to change it from ‘‘This Desktop’’ to ‘‘All Desktops’’ to get the functionality back.
This is a bug that should be easy for Apple to fix. It would also be nice to have all open applications in a session remember which desktop it was associated with previously, as I have a number of things open which I arrange into different desktops (‘‘spaces’’)--as I'm sure many other users of OS X do as well.

  • Tap to click setting in system preferences not persisting after reboot!

    Hi,
This is the 2nd time this has happened.. I shut down my system, and boot it up later, and when I go to tap, nothing happens. I go into to system prefs > trackpad, and see that my tap to click & dragging options are unchecked......
Why is it not remembering those settings?

I also have this behavior. It seems all trackpad preferences fail to persist after reboot and logout/login. I also disable Pinch Open & Close and Rotate settings and those also revert.

  • ACR122U smart card reader not recognized after reboot...

I am new to POS Windows and have been working with wondows for ever. I was using ACR 122u contactless usb smart card reader with windows XP and communicating with it using java with no problems. Then our I changed the OS to windows Pos ready 2009 and we found out that USB card reader has to be unplugged and plugged back in after rebooting the computer. other than the OS everything else is identicle (driver, reader, java program, ect..). Can any one tell me what could cause this problem and what I can do to solve this.
I have cheked the device manager and under USB controllers it says that it is unrecognized deivice..I tried changing the reader, changing the port and(actually the reader is pluged in to a linksys external usb hub, but changing this to a internal port did not make any difference)  tried chagning some settings in control panel.
    1. I checked the power option of the root usb hub.
    2. Changed the driver.cab to a normal driver.cab obtained from the normal xp version. Uninstall the driver and reinstall it.
So far this hasnt been working.
I hope someone could help me with this.
    ~Tharanga

After extensive tests with Win 7 Embedded and ACR122U, I can confirm the same problem. It seems that reader firmware hangs and the only way to recover is to unplug and plug again the reader. We shall repeat the tests with readers from other manufacturers.
For the tests, we use a Win7 Embedded Standard PC with an ACR122U connected. We installed and configured the ACS Monitor program to start automatically with windows. We made a small utility to restart the PC every minute and we placed it on the Startup directory.
Within the first 5-10 reboots, the reader fails and the ACS monitor program shows " No reader connected" and no reaction from the reader. If we shall unplug and plug the reader again to the USB port everything works fine again.

  • Color Profile Not Applied After Reboot.

Hi guys, I posted this in the nZone forums, but no one replied, so I'm trying my luck here.
I created and saved a color profile named "Games", in which the brightness is set to a bit higher to compensate for dark games. Then in the Performance and Quality tab, I created a game profile named HL2 and associated hl2.exe with it. Switiching to Advanced settings in view, I changed the color profile to Custom - Games. After clicking Apply, starting Half-Life 2 or Counter Strike: Source will cause the brightness to be at an acceptable level.
However, after rebooting, the profile seems to have been forgotten. The game would run under the brightness I set my desktop at. The game profile is still there, however, remembered in the profile for the game under Performance and Quality. I would have to select the HL2 profile again and click Apply for it to take effect again. This happens EVERY time the machine reboots. I have uninstalled the drivers and manually deleted some files left behind, with Driver Cleaner Pro, and then reinstalled to no avail. Is there a way to fix this? This also happens to a profile I made for Guild Wars.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Specs: 6600 GT PCI-E with 84.21 drivers, running a Dell 2005FPW through the DVI connector.
    AMD 3000+ on Epox 9NPA+Ultra
    1 GB RAM
    160 GB SATA
And just as an experiment I installed Windows and Guild Wars on a 6 year old 8 GB hard drive. It was a clean install, with only drivers (mobo, GPU) and Guild Wars installed. Same thing happens. I even tried the 78.01 and 93.31 drivers. 93.31 wouldn't even allow custom color profiles for whatever reason.

Thanks for the reply Richard. I indeed tried the latest driver, 91.31. The new control panel was quite confusing. I managed to get to the performance and quality place, but there was no way to set a color profile to a specific game, so keeping the same drivers, I went back to the classic control panel. Color profiles can't seem to be applied for game profiles, as the value in the profile switches to a "0" every time I hit apply (read that some other guy on the nZone forums had the same issues). So as of now, I just use the 84.21 drivers and set the color profile manually in the taskbar.
By the way, does anyone else here set color profiles in their game profiles? If so, how's the experience?

  • Disabling E-mail notifications not working after reboot

Hello. It seems that the mail notification and the mail count still persist even if I have it disabled on the settings after rebooting. I've checked the settings after reboot and it is still set as disabled (after following the guide), but the notifications still appear. Is this an bug on the on the app that needs to be fixed? Or am I missing something? Thanks.

I've had a number of problems with the Playbook not recognising the settings I've chosen. In this case, with disabling email notifications, it resets after each reboot.
I've found that if I go into my the Messages app, and then into Message Settings, it shows that alerts are set to be off (display message count, and display new message indicator). The fix for me is to enable alerts, go back to main app screen, then go back into settings and disable alerts once more. At that point the settings seem to stick. So whenever I reboot the playbook, I just have to do that and notifications will remain off until the next reboot.
Let us know if that works for you too. Maybe it will help the engineers figure out what's wrong.

  • Bluetooth mouse is not connected after reboot or bluez restart

I followed all possible guides to make my Apple MagicMouse. I saw on the forums that the key is to mark it as "trusted". I did it in bluetoothctl and put it to "trusts" file in /var/lib/bluetooth/xx:xx..../.

Sometimes I see a paring request from the mouse. Sometimes authorisation request and if I go to the bluetooth settings it even propose to type a PIN code on the mouse )
Regardless my action after restart of bluez I am at the starting point.

I mentioned that, because this "solution" used to work for me on previous similar problems. After these steps the mouse used to autoconnect again after reboots and wakeups. Then after some weeks the problem appeared again.
Now this also doesnt work anymore. Now, everytime the mouse is disconnected, I have to push  connect-button on the mouse and then manually initiate the connect process from the notebook (KDE: bluetooth applet -> Mouse -> Connect). It is not enough to just turn on the mouse.

  • TC not found after reboot (and other problems)

    Hi there,
After I have gone through the Airport utility to setup my new TimeCapsule (TC) as router (connected with a DSL-modem), Airport utility rebooted TC, but then an error occurred, saying TC could not be found after reboot. This is the last in a series of strange behaviours and occurred directly after I reset TC to factory settings.
I also had tried adding TC to an existing network. This appeared to work (no error message, green LED). However, I could not select TC as TimeMachine's backup drive. TimeMachine did find TC, asked me for the password and verified the password, however immediately switched back to the status "not configured".
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance
    -mat

    Dear fellow sufferers,
it is solved! I decided to wait with a return and meanwhile the solution in another thread. All problems went away after I turned all security off from my network (do do this, I had to temporarily connect my TC by wire). This may be related to the fact that I am using a slightly aged PowerBook (latest Titanium model). Using fixed channel instead of automatic further accelerated the connection.
Well, it is not really solved since I want to use some security in my network, but I suppose that will come with the next Leopard update (Cupertino, do you hear me!!!????).
