X-Fi2: Sound Boost by Toggling Expand Off/On after Power Up...

>. I have discovered that Toggling the X-Fi2's Expand feature off and then re-enabling it after powering it on gives it a bit of a sound/volume boost (music only). I can't beli've this is by design. It would be nice if it just played at the increased sound/volume level all of the time.
I'm am running firmware release .2.05 but it has done it with previous firmware relases as well.

I've also noticed this bug.., sometimes the volume suddenly changes a big step when you are playing with the x-fi options. But which option exactly seems to be different every firmware.

  • Mac Pro switches itself off immediately after power button is pressed on

    Hi there,
I would like to share with you an ongoing problem of my Mac Pro (about on and off 11 month I think). Since its HD changed at the beginning of this year I've been having the problem of "switching itself off immediately after the power button is pressed on." I took it to Milton Keynes Apple Shop and apparently they couldn't replicate the problem I received it after they reset it's PRAM. Meanwhile I read the related posts and discussions about the problem and my assumption was as suggested in the scenarios of similar cause – Power Supply unit. I had a technical chat with ex-Solutions staff from Brighton, he also said it might have been caused by it.
I really don't know what to do because, sometimes attempting 10 or over times of pressing the button I hear the chime and literally 10 or 20 seconds later it switches itself off. And it happened this Sunday morning again, 8 times I've encountered the failure. And the most confusing thing is sometimes I leave it about an hour or two and then it just works and runs fine as it has never have happened.
By the way I left my computer on for a very long time I suspect maybe more than a month it was on sleep most of time when i am not using it. But yesterday I made the mistake of logging off and shutting it down. Now I can't turn my computer on. Highly frustrating and amazingly bizarre technical challenge.
Mind you I am fairly capable of carrying DIY operations on it. Previously I baked my graphics card as suggested in the forum – it works fine at the moment I am waiting until it completely brakes. But this power problem really really puzzles me.
Any opinions, how to solve this cause is highly appreciated.
    Many thanks!

    Mac Pro 8 core
    Xeon 5400 2nd Generation Early 2008
    10 GB RAM
    1 TB HD

The SMC especially on the very first 2-3 months of Early 2008.
Use to suffer from a "restart on wake from sleep" issue.
Some one told me that is not what "inrush current issue" is but that is what I (and couple others) called it.
Best to always have a workstation on 1500VA UPS.
Not share the outlet or cirucit even with anything major.
Yes it could I guess, poor phrase, but put more stress on PSU over time as a result also.
Methods to reset SMC have varied and changed over time. Thanks to web not all the revisions and older versions are kept online though to compare to.
Stories of people going on vacation etc for two weeks to come back to a "dead" Mac Pro started showing up in 2007.
If it had an actual SMC button, use that to reset.
If not, leaving it totally disconnected, and all external cables and such over-night, not for the mere 5-10 minutes.
Unplug but then press and hold power button for 8-10 seconds. And only once. And not to be done repeatedly. That was SMC Reset #3.
I know the 2007 8-core 3GHz had a different PSU than the smaller models.
    2008 high end was 8-core 3.2GHz 5400 (stock was 2.8GHz 4 or 8-core)
FBDIMMs draw between 10W up to 15W each, so possible to have 8 DIMMs drawing 120W when maxed out. And heat. I always recommend Mac Pro use fan control to boost the fans a small 400 rpm to expel heat better and keep FBDIMM temps down. Heat, and temperature fluxuations stress and weaken components.
Other than AHT and the tools that a Apple Certified center should have, not much other than to swap out parts, monitor - iStatPro or Hardware Monitor -
And because of all this, I would setup a test system so you have a freshly formatted and installed OS and take it from there, with a better chance.

  • IMac G5 Sounds like a jet taking off

Our iMac G5 sounds like a jet taking off shortly after we boot it up and try to open any applications. Also, when we try to power down and then turn it back on, a flashing folder shows up with a question mark and finder icon. Any ideas out there?

If you have not already, reset PRAM

and if that does not help, reset SMU (power management)

FYI - For some reason, you are posting in the category for the older iMac G3 (CRT display).

  • My Screen Expands off the bottom

Sounds weird, I know, but when I slide to unlock, the regular home screen displays properly for a moment and then expands slightly at the bottom, putting the text under the 4 main icons partially off the screen. And when I press the icon for Safari (and maybe others), it shrinks to the proper size, brings up the new app and then expands off the bottom again. What is this all about?

You have the Zoom accessibility feature turned on.
Double-tap using three fingers to un-zoom, and then go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Zoom and tap the Zoom On/Off switch.
If you have trouble with that, connect to iTunes and click the "Configure Universal Access..." button in the Summary pane and unselect Zoom there.

  • Sound randomly goes on and off on my IMac

I have a 2006 IMac that works perfectly except for one thing. One day last year out of the blue the sound stopped working and I would get the 'not allowed' circle when I tried to adjust the volume. the problem persisted for a week or so, then the sound just came back on. Everything was fine untill a month ago when the same thing happened. I did some research and tried the toothpick trick and everything related but nothing worked, then the next morning the sound was on. Over the next few weeks the sound would go on and off randomly for no apparent reason. It has now been off for two solid weeks and I don't know what to do. Is it possibly a loose connection inside the computer that just needs to be plugged in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Performing both of these usually cures the problem:

  • MBP frequently slows down and sounds like an aircraft taking off

I have the original MBP with the following: OS X 10.5.6, Processor: 2.16Ghz Intel Core Duo, Memory: 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, 120GB HD
I've recently started to notice that while running 2-3 applications my MBP's drive will frequently (happens about 4-5 times a day) start sounding like an aircraft taking off and some of the system resources jump up to around 100%.
What can I do to remedy this situation?

Take it to your nearest Apple Store so they can hear it for themselves. Or if you have AppleCare or your computer is still under warranty, call Apple. If you computer really is that loud, then the Apple techs should have no problem hearing your computer +taking off+ over the phone.
    Let Apple deal w/it.

  • Sound display won't go off

My sound display will not go off. When I go to settings it will go off but always comes back on safari.

apple store pointed out the alert volume slider is not the same as the play user sound effects check box and you need to turn it down as well as unchecking the box.

  • G4 Hangs, Sounds like an Airplane Taking Off

My G4 has been running smoothly on Leopard so far. Lately, though, it has started hanging often... no spinning wheel, no opportunity to force quit... it literally freezes. I hold down the power button to turn it off and then on reboot the fan goes crazy... sounds like an airplane taking off.
I have fixed disk permissions. Reset PMU. Run fsck -fy. And it's still doing it.
I am also running several usb devices through a belkin hub: iPod shuffle, external maxtor 80Gig for time machine, and occasionally a canon powershot camera.
Last time I tried to import photos off the camera it had all kinds of trouble. Had to reboot several times.
I realize this thing is getting old... but my whole life is on it and I can't really replace right now. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Josh

If this is a Mirrored Drive Doors model, the fans are likely working as designed.
There are circuits inside that run the internal fans on their highest setting by default. When the computer is running properly, the software periodically checks the CPU temperature, and sets the fan to an appropriate setting -- almost always less than maximum.
At initial power up, and when the fan hardware is ignored (not turned down) for some large part of a minute, the fan circuits revert to the default, maximum setting to keep the CPU from getting so hot it is damaged. Sure is loud, isn't it!
If you are running 10.4 or later, boot it up (if you can) and check About this Mac > More Info > Diagnostics -- to see if is detecting any failures at startup.

  • Toggle on/off Notifications system wide

Seeing as how there is no iOS community (don't see it anyway), I'm asking this here.
I don't think it's possible, but it would be nice to toggle on/off Notification center system wide. As it is now, I have to turn Notifications off for each individual app.
Sometimes i want NO notifications at all (like while watching a movie with someone who I might not want to see all of my notifications) and it would be easier to just turn them off, with one toggle, and turn back on again when I am ready to have notifications again (remembering which apps I had notifications turned on and which ones I didn't).

  • Toggle on/off button

    Hi all!
First of all, I'm new with Muse and I'm loving it.
I'm prototyping a mobile app and I need to make some customized switches. Buttons that toggle on/off when you press them.
I have two images for the button states but I was wondering how can I achieve this with Muse.
    Thanks in advance!

Here is a video tutorial defining object states:

  • Display Scaling - menus expand off of screen

The Windows 8 feature Display Scaling at 125% causes all sorts of problems for Muse CC 2014:
Menus will expand off of the screen
    Hyperlinks button is disabled
Master Pages are not visible in Plan view
The obvious fix is to change Display scaling:
         a. right click on Desktop
         b. Select "Screen resolution"
         c. Scroll and select "Make text and other items larger or smaller"
         d. Change item size to Smaller or click on "Custom sizing options" and select 150%
This is an onerous work-around, because if your Display sizing was set to 125% that is probably what worked for your eyes.

I would contact the app developer.
The iPad 3 has a higher resolution (2048x1536 @ 264 ppi) than the iPad 2 (1024x768 @ 132 ppi). I assume the app is optimized for the higher resolution.

  • Multiple Toggle On Off Buttons

Hello, I have ten buttons on one frame that need to act independently from each other. By tapping each button they switch to a new assigned button and if tapped again they revert back to default button state, similiar to on/off or show/hide..
I am not sure how to go about creating the script for multiple buttons on one frame, layer. This is suppo@se to be for Air for Android...any guidance, tips on this greatly appreciated...

, Hello Ned, Basicly it suppose to allow end user to keep track of repetitive tasks and by toggling the button a new button of different color or even with a number shows up, in my case from 1-10
The enduser can click button again to reset, returns back to default state. The buttons should be re-useable throughout other frames...kinda like how the counter below functions but in a visual
horizontal linear manner..non modern. I hope that makes more sense...
