X reverts to software rendering

Hello
I just installed ati-dri-git, libgl-git, mesa-git and xf86-video-ati-git, but now this shows up in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
(EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/r300_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/r300_dri.so: undefined symbol: rc_opcodes)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
and 3D rendering is extremely slow.
pkgfile suggests that ati-dri-git owns r300_dri.so, and I've tried recompiling, but to no avail.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Do I need to install something else? Do I need to configure something?

I ended up removing all of those packages that you mentioned and built the libdrm-git and mesa-full packages along with the dependencies.
The errors have gone away.
I suggest to try building the libdrm-git package and then rebuild the other packages.. or do what I did above.

  • Advanced Software Rendering Solution For Games

I am actually looking to talk to someone at sun but figured someone in this forum might be interested in what I have done as well.
A few years back I developed a feature rich 3D api for java that is 100% software based. I realize there are some other similar apis around now, but I think mine has quite a few features that those others still probably do not, including java 3d. I figured someone might be interested in a software solution, or may be interested in incorperating it with java 3D.
The engine runs in 100% software and is very well written with the idea of hardware support being simple to add. It achieves good frame rates (30-40fps) when run as as an applet or application. I wrote it with the intent of starting an online game company / possibly licencing it but other things have taken priorty since then. I was wondering if anyone is interested, including sun, in doing something with it.
The engine has built in boned character animation, bsp/pvs quake style map compiling tools, lightmap generation and rendering, constructive solid geometry, pixel perfect texture mapping with chrome mapping and custom rasterization support similar to shader languages. There is a state of the art terrain engine with adaptable lod with no popping that can be adjusted easilly for performance / quality in real time. The terrain engine has its own shading lanuage based on tilable textures. that It combines with an optional detail map based on terrain features such as slope and altitude to create the terrain texture. I wrote my own level and model formats. The model format is self contained so all textures and required data can be distributed in a single file. There are also optimized 3D math libraries. I'm sure there are more features that I forgot to mention..
I feel the code is very well written and highly optimized. The first time I wrote it I was in highschool, but I rewrote it over my freshman and software year of college with code quality in mind. I've been workign with java for 9 years so its written a lot better than your typical college student. Its very modular so lots of things can be swaped in real-time to compromise between performance and quality. I also have a nice particle effects system in an older version of the engine that I could incorportate.
The only non java code in the project is the model exporters I wrote for milkshape 3d.
I'm probably going to take a job soon somewhere where Java isn't used. Therefore, I thought I should try and do something with the project before its too late.
I can be reached at [email protected].
    Thank you,
    Kris Rasmussen

This sounds very interesting! I've been working on a lot of 3D stuff in Java myself, mostly using JOGL. Currently, I'm developing a software renderer in Java which will include many of the features you mention. My project focusses on rather obscure lighting techniques and voxel polygons; Never the less, a general-purpose software renderer would be very interesting indeed. Could we get in contact directly? Drop me a mail if you are interested, find my whereabouts at wolf.ascendancy.at

  • Have Enough RAM, Still Have to Use Software Rendering

I recently added an nVidia geForce 8600GT video card to my system with 1 GB of RAM on board. All together I have 2303MB of RAM, but I still have to use software rendering in Bridge or my images are scrambled. Since I have much more than the required 128MB+ of RAM to use hardware rendering, why am I still not able to use it ???

    Hi Brian.
The problem may be with the driver. For some reason card manufacturers sometimes remove support for some features in their updated drivers. Alternatively, if the card is new-ish then the driver writers may not have gotten round to implementing the features yet.
If possible try experimenting with earlier drivers - you can find earlier ones for your card here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
If this still doesn't work then you can try Omega's 'modded' drivers from here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ - I had to use an Omega one to get hardware rendering to work in Bridge CS3 on my laptop.

  • Frame Rate diff. between JOGL | software rendered

Im just getting started on using JOGL and im really excited.
Out of pure academic curiousity, how much of a speed increase
do you get working with JOGL over pure java software rendering?
Ive always just written my own 3d libraries in java for simple wireframe
and polygonal (w/ no shading) graphics and its always worked
    extremely well.

Out of pure academic curiousity, how much of a speed increase
do you get working with JOGL over pure java software rendering? If you want to know, profile. The answer will vary wildly depending on the graphics card and on how well optimised your software render routines were.

  • Is Software Rendered 3D w/ Z-Buffer Feasible?

Ive seen some awesome 3D Java games using OpenGL bindings -
so this is by no means any sort of "can you do games in java" question.
Ive programmed Doom style examples from java game books that use BSP.
Is it possible to get 20+ fps in Java using pure software rendering and a z-buffer?
A lot of the engines like jME use OpenGL so its hard to get a feel for how far
I can push a pure Java game engine.
Ive created a 3D modeling program and it gets bad repaint times and all im using
    is backface culling.

Is it possible to get 20+ fps in Java using pure software rendering and a z-buffer?Yes, but it's a crazy question. This would depend on how many objects you have, hardware resources (aside from graphics card), etc. My question is why would you want to do this? I don't think a computer has been sold in 10 years that doesn't come with a 3D accelerated card (unless you're buying servers or whatever)

  • Warp Stabilizer flicker, software renderer does nothing

I started this project on CC 2014, then migrated it up to CC 2014.1. I have tried exporting a couple sequences from it multiple times, with different output codecs (uncompressed, Cineform, H.264), and all of the results are the same: flickering video and noisy audio.
I have isolated the flicker to the Warp Stabilizer-effected shots, but no sequence setting changes or conversion to Software renderer over CUDA renderer makes any difference in the output. The audio also outputs as digital noise (sounds like when you listen to a data CD in an old CD player).
It is not an option to go through and re-add all of the Warp Stabilizer effects to see what different that makes, there are too many of them on the various clips in the project.
This affects both Premiere AND Media Encoder, so it's looking very difficult to get a quality render out of this.
    Please help!

Windows 8.1 with all the latest updates
Source footage is Canon 5D MkIII 1080p30 all-I & Gopro Hero 3+ Black 1080p60 protune
I do get an "unspecified drawing error" sometimes when applying Warp Stabilizer but not all the time
WS worked fine until I updated from CC to 2014
I'm not running any other software besides the rest of the Adobe suite. I sometimes have Chrome open while editing.
I use Red Giant Magic Bullet looks quite a lot. I also use Neat Video noise reduction, Boris Continuum, and Twixtor.

I'm using MPE GPU acceleration. When I use software only I actually get a lot more render errors and the flicker worsens.
Previews look perfect only on final output do I see the problem. I have tried rendering with the "use previews" box checked thinking that would help but it makes no difference.
Hope we can get this solved!
    Edit:
I also get an "unknown exception on frame 0 in Warp Stabilizer" error sometimes when applying WS.

  • [Solved] radeonsi: only Software Rendering with AMD A10-7850k APU

    Hi,
I have a new computer with an AMD A10-7850k APU.
I installed Arch Linux as usual and now get only Software Rendering with the open source drivers.
    $ glxinfo | grep vendor

I am in the video group and I have no nomodeset in my boot entry.
Is this APU not yet supported for Hardware Rendering with the radeonsi drivers or do I miss anything?
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • HT4623 I can not get my Ipad to update the latest software rendering my Ipad useless. It keeps saying software update unavailable.

I can not get my IPAD to update the latest software the update says it is unavailable at this time try later I have been trying for 5 hours  any suggestions as this renders my IPAD useless

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

  • E72 - language will revert after software updating...

The phone was bought in germany....I installed hebrew in a nokia care point..
They werent so sure if the language will revert if I will update my software....
So maybe someone here can tell me for sure if the language will revert??
    Thanks all
    Ofer

cjlim Mobile Sensei wrote in a post dated december 2009: You can have a language pack containing Chinese installed by most Nokia Care Points. However, the phone will revert back to its original languages if you update the firmware.
I guess that would apply to every language (pack).

  • I installed 10.6.8 from 10.6.6 on my Macbook Pro and now can't open Safari-think it's something to do with the Intego anti-virus software. Reverted Intego software back to default state and now computer just boots ups up slowly and can't access a thing.

I installed 10.6.8 from 10.6.6 OS on my MacBook Pro and have not been able to open secure sites on Safari.  Think it has something to do with the Intego Anti-virus installed.  Tried restoring Intego to default status and now my Mac barely boots up and does nothing else but spin.  Ugh.  Has anyone had similar issues and if so, were you able to resolve?  How?  Thanks,

1: Backup your user files folders of Documents, Music, Pictures etc., to a external powered drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
2: Insert the 10.6 installer disk and reboot holding c
3: Simply reinstall OS X without erasing the drive, it will overwrite the installed version of OS X and the root level software, but leave your Applications folder contents (expect Apple bundled programs) and user files alone. (but backup anyway in case it fails)
4: Reboot and the Integro is gone out of your system, but there may still be something laying around in Applicaitons to delete. Use Software Update to get up to date.
5: You don't need anti-virus on a Mac, Apple provides it already for you sight unseen.
6: If you Software update, the bad certificate issues are pulled, thus are not a threat.

  • Reverting to software version 1.2.1 on Mac OS X

I already made a thread about the ipod problems I've been having after downloading 1.2.2 and now I see it's been happening to a lot of people. But all the directions I've seen have been for windows and I don't have time to comb through pages and pages of discussions to find how to do it on my iBook. Could someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE link me to the directions for how to restore my ipod to version 1.2.1 on Mac OS X???????

Just restore the iPod in the usual way. Version 1.2.2. has been removed so it will revert to version 1.2.1.
After that, reload the music from your iTunes library.

  • Converting playback rate in third party software rendered specifically from AEcc

i've been having issues with certain codecs that are rendered from aecc.
    prores (family) & Uncompressed.
From time to time we need to make elements with different frame-rates. so we use a tool from fcp called cinema tools to make conversions for speed without going back to AE, which basically changes playback rate of the clip to 23/24/25/29.97 in respect.
However this method is now proving an issue since CC.
i think its something on the encoding on the metadata thats locking the option to make the changes in cinema-tools. but the animation codec renders are fine?!!!
The work around i have with this is once i render from AE i open up Quicktime then export out again as the same codec. which makes it fine to convert there after. any help would be great”

    Hi Rick,
unfortunatly this method didnt work either.
I tried doing a test by adding to render queue direct and adding to Media Encoder from AE
No changes still locked out of converting the file in cinetools.
I also tried putting the file into media endcoder as a independant file without AE open, but again no changes.
However once i converted it via Quicktime player pro. It was perfectly fine.
It may be to do with the Proress file encoding.
Its fine with animation codecs from both AE renders and media encoder.
who knows what gremlin is trying to stop it from changing the attritubes.

  • BUG: Flash hardware acceleration is not enabled when software rendering is enabled in the browser

Confirmed in IE9 and Firefox, this appears to have started in Beta 4, and would explain why suddenly the Green line bugs i reported earlier were resolved.
Flash acceleration should NOT be linked to the browsers back end compositor acceleration.

same problem here, but with liva-intel-driver. see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33936

EDIT:In the glxinfo command its say 'OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc'. Why?
I don't really know it but "Unknown chipset" sounds like the card may be so new that it is not yet supported, even in testing. "softpipe" means that it is using software rendering instead of the actual 3d hardware.
It probably will work with newer git versions from mesa and xf86-video-ati and maybe the radeon branch of the kernel. All is found in the inofficial [radeon] repository:

  • GDM displays only a black screen and a cursor, before login screen

I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver for an R9 270, and GDM (v3.16.1.1) only shows a black screen with cursor. I can run TWM fine with startx, and I've got 2 displays attached via DVI.

The first is the audio codec, which is WM Std at 44.1kHz. WVP2 is the video codec and I have not heard of it. Nor seen it playback in QT assisted by Flip4mac so it may be unplayable.
There are always listed one audio codec and one video codec in that box assuming there are audio and video in the clip, e.g. AAC 256 bit (audio) and H264 Simple Profile (video) in an iPod clip.
Ooh bad news, from another source:
+"It seems that the Flip4Mac WMV Player, which should provide the missing Windows Media support for Mac users (as endorsed by Microsoft) does not support all Windows Media codecs, namely *it refuses to play content encoded with the Windows Media Video 9 Image v2 (WVP2) codec.* "+
