X200 under Windows 7, fingerprint login pass through stalls

(sorry, new to the forum --- I think this way of expressing the subject will be  less likely to be ignored)
This is a new machine for us as well as a new operating system.
We aren't using the fingerprint login and don't intend to. Usually when the machine boots into Windows first the fingerprint log in screen appears, but in a few seconds passes throgh to the password signin. But not always. Sometimes "stalls" in the fingerprint screen. There I can use "swicth users" and can log in with the supervisor account password but not a user account without administrator rights (it still wants a fingerprint and says not available)
Can somebody tell  me if I can completely turn off the fingerprint log in screen and if so, how. I assume that would be unchecking something in the Windows start up but being new to 7 I don't even know how to look for it.

Two problems with trying that:
a) Not an available option If Iopen the control panel I see eight options: System & Security, Neytwork & Internet, Harware & Sound, Program, User Accounts and Family Safety, Appearance and Personalization, Clock, Language, and Region, and Ease of Access. No "Change Bionmetric Settings".
This Winodws 7 Pro 64 bit
b) I could have done more on introduction but didn't see the need. While these little computers aren't THAT familiar to me I am retired from decades in the cypher mines in the world of large mainframes. So Iknow SOMETHING about the problem. When Windows is booting up it will start a number of tasks (services) ending with the one that will prodiuce the log in screen. Or in this case, two such routines, one first dsplaying the fingerprint log in screen, then, after a few seconds,  running another routine that brings up the normal password sign in screen. At least, that's what happens wen it doesn't "stall" .
I am asking if anybody can tell me how I turn off the first. It isn't clear that turing off the device that this first routine is trying to access wouldn't make things even worse (unclear that disabling thdevice would remove the routine from the liust of things Windows does when coming up -- perhaps the "stall" is even relted to it not getting a "ready" response form the fingerprint reader).
I am new to Windows7. If still under Windows XP I know there is something that I run that brings up the "things to do while starting up" where you can check or uncheck things (I'd have to find my notes to give more details) but I don't know what that would be under Windows 7 nor, if I got there, the name of the "fingerprint log in" routine to uncheck nor the name of the routine to check that devices without a fingerprint reader would use.
PROBLEM STILL OPEN

  • McAfee EEMAC Login pass through

Our Security team at my company wants to install McAfee's Endpoint Encryption on our Mac laptops. Our Macs are bound into AD and end users login with a user ID and password.
McAfee's Endpoint Encryption login modifies the boot process so that the user logs into McAfee first (AD user ID and password) and then gets to the Mac login screen. I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar configuration, but has developed a login hook to pass through the McAfee user authentication to the Mac's login so the end user only has to login one time.
    Any advice is appreciated... thanks!

  • Under Windows 7 - Fingerprint Reader Ignored After Standby Resume

I thought this was perhaps a platform-specific issue.  But both on my ThinkPad T61 running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and my new ThinkPad T510 running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, whenever I resume from standby, any finger swipe against the fingerprint reader is ignored.
Note - I am not using the rather large Lenovo fingerprint driver package because I don't want the bloat.  Just want a very basic, Ctrl+Alt+Delete password prompt replacement.
Does the "Registry patch to change IDLE IRP timing by Fingerprint reader driver for Windows Vista" need to be installed under Windows 7 (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67245)?

i didn't know the lenovo fingerprint driver package was more than just a very basic, Ctrl+Alt+Delete password prompt replacement? (at least not that i noticed)

  • USB Pass-Through From Windows 8.1 Host To Windows Server 2012 R2 VM

I want to be able to connect with a Windows Mobile Device through Windows Mobile Device Center, within a Virtual Machine.  When connecting through the Hyper-V Manager and through Remote Desktop, under "Other supported RemoteFX USB devices",
I can see the Symbol USB Sync Cradle.  In the VM, in Device Manager, I don't see a USB connection.  In the VM, I don't see any meaningful errors in the Event Viewer.
Host:  Windows 8.1 Enterprise Hyper-V on a Domain.  Upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro.  When this computer was originally installed with Windows 8 Pro, Hyper-V was enabled.  I removed Hyper-V, and installed VMWare Player, because I wanted
USB Pass-through.  I then uninstalled VMWare and installed VirtualBox.  Recently, I uninstalled VirtualBox, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and enabled Hyper-V.
Virtual Machine OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 on a Workgroup.  Started out with being a VMWare VM, using VMWare Player.  Moved to VirtualBox.  USB Pass-through was working in both those virtual environments.  Used Disk2VHD to convert the
    VM to a VHDX file.
    On the Host:

  • No option to use fingerprint at windows 8.1 Login

Ok so I see many posts about issues with Fingerpint reading in 8.1 Pro x64 but none of them are helping me. Got an X1 Carbon Type 20BS which uses a Synaptics fingerprint. I can register fingerprints and tell WIndows to allow fingerprints for logging in but no matter what I try, at the login screen there is no option to login with fingerprint I jjust got this laptop for work logging onto a domain and the settings in Local Group Policy Editor etc including allow use Fingerprint to login to a domain were already enabled and I am setup with local admin rights At first I registered fingerprints with the Lenovo Manager but since found out Windows 8.1 has built on fingerprint management so I deleted all fingeprints with the Lenovo Manager and went to PC settings, Accounts and added fingerprints there for login. Still nothing. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Lenovo fingerprint manager, adding 2 lots of registry settings to Windows -> Policies and Windows -> WInbio nothing works!! So obviously no issues with drivers and hardware WIndows just wont start the fingerprint sensor at login. Some times I actually saw the light come on before I hit the login screen but then it goes out. Also has a look at services, Windows Biometrics is set to Auto Start, Credential Manager set to Manual but running.. So I am out of ideas here.. Is there anything else I could be missing set up to disable fingerprint login? Right now I am just logged onto the machine outside my network but even when I was at work and on the LAN still nothing.. Anyone that can help be much appreciated We used to have HP Laptops on Windows 7 and even then I could use fingerprint to login to the VPN Connection (Aventail) not even that works on 8.1 and Lenovo. Cheers

    Same here.
Although I found a workaround I would like Lenovo to evaluate this.
Workaround: I switch the Yoga 2 Pro back to energy saving mode using the screen (Win8.1). After that I tab on the Windows Icon just below the screen. In most cases that's enough to get the keyboard awake. Sometimes I need to do that twice.
Another thing I noticed: the keyboard-awake-bug only happens, if the Yoga 2 Pro has been in Energy Saving mode for a long time. When the notebook is in energy saving mode for just minutes, the keyboard bug does not happen.

  • Export H264 pass-through movie with embedded text track QuickTime Pro 7 Windows?

Using QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows, I add a text track with closed captions to my H264 .mp4 videos.
The text track works great until I try to export it.  After I've added the text track, the text track is displayed as long as the track is selected to be active using the Movie Inspector track GUI.
My movies are encoded as H264 for cross-platform compatibility, and need to remain in this format.  The only way to save them in QuickTimePro 7 for Windows is to Export Movie to MPEG-4.  I select Pass-Through mode to retain the resolution and bandwidth parameters that I initially encoded the video with.
Unfortunately, after I export to MPEG-4, the caption track is lost.  It disappears.  When I open the newly exported MPEG-4 caption file, and select Movie Inspector, the caption track is missing.  Inspector only shows video and audio tracks.
If QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows correctly exported my text track with the video and audio tracks, then users would be able to view the closed captions upon playback in QuickTime Player by selecting View--> Show Closed Captioning (Ctrl+Alt+T).
Anyone been able to export to MPEG-4 pass-through movie with embedded text track QuickTime Pro 7 Windows?
    Thank you!

  • Using scripting with networking equipment under Windows

It can be a challenge to use scripting to automate working with Cisco devices. The Cisco IOS does not seem to directly provide a command line interface. You are forced to find a way to automate interaction with a telnet or ssh session.
The PERL language provides a number of object-oriented methods to help manage an interactive session, most notably Net::SSH::Expect and Net::Appliance::Session. These options can work well in a Unix environment, but not under MS Windows.
There are PERL for Windows options, the best probably being Strawberry PERL. There is also a Unix under Windows option known as CYGWIN that is freely available. Unfortunately none of these will work well with the way Windows manages low-level terminal I/O. The curious can google "windows pseudo terminal" to see all the technical details.
One way that does work under Windows is Tcl.  It was initially named Tool Command Language. It is sometimes shown as Tcl/Tk.
Interestingly enough, Tcl is included within Cisco IOS as tclsh. There is no interaction with the tclsh and this example. It is just a bit of a curious coincidence.
A Tcl port to Windows can be downloaded from http://www.activestate.com/activetcl/downloads. Select Download ActiveTCL for Windows. A direct link to the download that worked at the time of writing is Download ActiveTcl 8.5.14 for Windows (x86)
Once base Tcl has been downloaded and installed there is one other component that will need to be installed from the Tcl Extension Archive, the expect package.
The teacup program that is installed with the base Tcl package makes this easy. The teacup program will work with a proxy.
You can set these Windows environment variables to specify proxy details:
    set http_proxy=
    set http_proxy_user=
    set http_proxy_pass=
    Then run teacup install expect
The plink tool from the PuTTY download is also needed. It can be obtained from http://www.putty.org/.
The sample that follows assumes that the data files, script and plink.exe executable all reside in the same directory.
A sample Tcl script follows that reads a file of devices and a file of commands. It will run the list of commands against each device in the device file. It has some basic error checking, but should best be considered a ‘beta’ version. You could do more complex interactions in the Tcl script by adding exp_send and expect command statements. In short, if you can type it you could script it!
Change directory to where your script, plink.exe  and data is stored and run with  tclsh <script_name>
    devices.list
    # Comment lines are allowed if they start with a hash mark
    # <IP_Addr> <userid> <password> <ssh|telnet> <timeout_in_secs>

  • Pass Through Auth Not Using Novell eDirectory Over RDP - Virtual Desktop

    Hi,
I have installed and configured SGD and the Virtual Desktop Adapter to a Virtual Center server. So far that whole side of things is working great. Machines are cloned, prepped and connected to by users through the My Desktop link in SGD. Now that I am attempting to perfect the master template I have encountered some issues. The network here is Novell eDirectory and at the moment when the desktop is launched the username and password used to authenticate to the SGD webtop are passed through to the Virtual Machine, but it seems that they are passed through to the Windows Authentication System/GINA even though the Novell client is in place.
The virtual machines are Windows XP and by default none of the user accounts exist locally, so of course the login fails. This drops the user back to the login box where it can be seen that the Workstation Only tick box is checked. Settings in the Novell client to always default to eDirectory authentication, forget last setting used etc has all been set properly. Even when hiding the Workstation Only tickbox the username and password are passed to local system authentication still.
I need to get the username and password sent to the Novell eDirectory authentication system/GINA in order for Zenworks to create the user on the local system. When dropping back to the login box and manually unticking the Workstation Only box login proceeds normally. Drives are mapped and the local user account is created by the Zenworks agent.
Is SGD specifically targeting an authentication subsystem within the virtual machine, regardless of your installed authentication handler/GINA preference order? Can I get SGD to pass the details to the Novell client? Barring that is there some way I can prevent SGD passing the details? I tried turning off some of the authentication details caching etc but some of that is needed to rename the virtual machines after the user connecting. For the time being having users authenticate twice would be acceptable, having them login in, then get an error message, then manually unticking Workstation Only then relogging in is not acceptable.
I have been searching these forums, Novell forums, Terminal Server forums for answers but so far nothing has been of any help. Please note that the login box is not the cut down/windows only login box that users are seen when they connect over RDP to a machine that already has a user logged in locally. There is no user logged in locally and the full login box is presented once the login failed message is cleared.
Any help, or even a nudge in the right direction would be great.
    Thanks
    Russ

    Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I tried the full context user name path as well, but its defiantly just being passed to a different GINA. The only credentials that determine if you have RDP access to a server is the local machines credentials, so Microsoft have the service pass authentication straight to the Microsoft GINA non-interactively instead of honouring the installed GINA's. So it will fail no matter what I put in since the account doesn't exist locally yet. People have implemented solutions that depend on Active Directory domains, but that's what I am trying to avoid.
In that situation the AD Domain would allow access to the local machine based on Windows permissions, and a registry setting TSAutoLogin or something would trigger the Novell log in in parallel to map the Netware shared volumes. With no domain you can't get the initial log in triggered for the Novell client to kick in.
Connecting to the virtual machine using an RDP client without pre-entering authentication information does show the Novell Login (NWGINA) with all the right settings in place, so I have modified the expect (login) script for SGD not to automatically pass log in information through with the RDP connection it makes. The result is a clean Novell login box without any errors that a user can just enter their details into a second time.

  • Portege M800 - System hangs after fingerprint login

I just got my Portege M800 weeks ago and frankly speaking, this model has been giving me much trouble. Earlier it is the heat problem at the palm rest and there is no solution to it.
Now I am facing another issue with the fingerprint login. I am running on WinXP. I set the system to be locked after 5 minutes idle. So normally after 5 minutes idle, the system will require me to scan my fingerprint to unlock the Windows. But there are times that, after scanning my fingerprint and successfully matched, the screen will just be blank (only showing the desktop wallpaper). No desktop icons, no windows task bar and nothing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del bring up nothing and no response even any key press. I tried to bring the system to hibernate by press the power button once also bring no response.
So I finally have to press and hold the power button to hard-reset the laptop.
Anybody can help or give any clue what was happening? Thanks!

I found the Fingerprint software on the Toshiba European driver page.
At this time you can find a 7.10.1.2 version for Vista 32bit and Win XP
    Check this!

  • Cisco ASA 5505 L2TP Pass through

I am having trouble with L2TP pass through on an ASA 5505 device.
    L2TP server: OSX 10.6
I can connect with any OSX system and it works fine straight away.
When connecting with a windows computer I get a 789 error.  "Error 789: The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountere a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer."
I did not setup or configure the device to start with and apart from this issue its working fine so I am hessitant at trying to just mess around too much to try and find the problem.
I am using the ASDM 6.4 to manage the device.
Ports look to be forwarded correctly; 1701, 4500 & 500 UDP.
Im just looking for other common issues?

    Hello,
Often, the Firefox app will close, but the underlying Windows process will not and cannot be stopped via Task Manager. When this happens, Firefox can no longer be used...the system must be rebooted. This happens especially when many apps are running but even though there are plenty of memory resources available.
I have tried to find if something is using Firefox in the background, but have no way to know what that would be.
Their are no apparent viruses detected.
Firefox is version v5.0 and occurred in earlier release.
    System is Windows 7 (64bit).

well, it's not the same hardware and it's a bit different.
I managed to pass that stage somehow but I still have a problem
I don't use the built-in creator tool that comes with Spyrus as it doesn't know how to append a pre-staged media that was created by SCCM that should apply the Windows file system to a second partition and the WinPE to the first partition.
I managed to do everything. my only problem is that the WTGCreator that comes with SCCM 2012 R2 creates the 350MB partition with FAT32 file system.
when I boot from the device I get the WinPE, I can choose a task sequence and then it fails when trying to apply the wim file. the error tells me that the 350MB partition is FAT32 which is not supported (even though it chooses the second partition, which
is all the rest of the disk space)
what I did was adding another task that converts the 32 Fat partition to an NTFS partition and then the process continues and finishes successfully! but that's a workaround.
I'm trying to make this process as smooth as possible without having additional steps

  • Mini SAP 7.01 under Windows Vista

    Hi every one,
I wanna share my experience with you for installing version 7.01 under Vista. This might help you.
I have installed the newest version ([Message from Klaus Keller| of Mini SAP under Windows Vista and, believe it or not, it all went correct. It is important that you download version Netweaver 7.01, since previous versions are not supported in Vista.
In the download section (http://www.sdn.sap.com/downloads/netweaver/abap/disclaimer.html) you find in file part 1 the description of process in a HTML & PDF file. You must pay much attention to what is described there; otherwise, it might happen that the installation process is not sucessful.
I´m not gonna describe the whole installation process. This is already in the download files. Just a reference of what I did:
1 ) make a backup of your information and have your Windows Vista disk at hand. It might happen that you have to format the computer´s hard disk if something goes wrong (this happened to me a couple of times in previous versions of Mini SAP and Windows XP). This is so, because it is impossible to erase some files and information in the registry (even with the Registry Clean Tool that is also downloadable in SDN). A new installation try was hopeless in those versions.
    2) shut the firewall and antivirus off before you start.
    3) don´t try to name your computer using special characters like - _ / & % and so on; additionally, name should be max. 13 characters long.
    4) you need a user account for windows, even if you´re the only one to use the computer and you must assign a password to that user. You need it once you start the server through the SAP management console.
    5) Install the Microsoft loopback adapter
once installed, system names it LAN-connection2 and you must asign a permanent IP address. Press button characteristics for its element Internet protocol version 4, where you enter:
    IP-Address 10.10.0.10
    Subnetwork mask 255.255.255.0
Don´t touch element Internet protocol version 6 !!
    6) file hosts under c:windowssystem32driversetc --> add an entry for the host like this:
    #Inicio de insercion
10.10.0.10               jalonso           "<-- this is my computer´s name and host name
You must have administrator rights and change the status write-protected for being able to modify it.
    7) Process takes less than 1 hour, mostly without user interference.
    8) if desired, install Adobe LifeCycle Designer before starting with SAP GUI. It happened to me once (Windows XP) that the installed SAP GUI was erased during installation of LifeCycle. It all then turned into a big mess and I had better to format the hard disk.
    9) install SAP GUI on your computer, which is part of the downloaded files.
If installation was sucessful, it might happen that you experience a problem when starting the application server (start --> SAP Netwaever 7.01 --> NSP --> Start application server). You get a red screen with a couple of error messages ([read my post|;). It is not a very serious problem, ´cause you can start the server with the SAP management console anyway.
Hope this helps you when installing Mini SAP 7.01 in your computer.

I am having a heck of a time with this install.  My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've read and re-read several forums and tried all the recommendations.
I've tried installing many time now and each time the install runs to 19% and I get a message " stopping Xserver".
Then it runs to 20% and I get a message "preparing packages for installation".
Then it runs for about 3 seconds and I receive the following:
    Errors occurred during the installation.
    Errors occurred during the installation.

  • All-in-one driver installation fails under Windows 7

I am trying to install the all-in-one printer driver for Windows 7, 64-bit, Service Pack 1.  I have downloaded the installer from HP (AIO_CDB_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe), downloaded it using HP Print and Scan Doctor 4.3 and using the HP Printer Install Wizard (hppiw.exe).  All methods fail.  My computer is a new Dell Inspiron (Intel i5-4440 @ 3.1GHz, 8GB RAM, 64-bit OS).  The printer I am installing for is a HP 6310, which is old but which has worked well for years under Windows XP.  I don't think the printer is an issue since the installer never reaches the point of scanning for hardware.
    Symptoms:
Installing using the downloaded installer, the initial splash screen displays.  Selecting "Install" displays a second screen with several progress indicators beginning with "Checking system...".  After checking for a few seconds, an error box pops up complaining that it can't find a file named "hpzpnp.ice_suffix..exe".
There are two files in the Setup directory named "hpzpnp01.exe" and "hpzpnp04.exe".  The Autorun file contains many references to an %ICE_SUFFIX% environment variable.
I guessed that the installer executables did not have enough privelege to set environment variables, so I went through the installer directories and set all the executables to run with administrator privelege.
After that, running "Setup.exe" from the top of the install tree, the initial splash appears, followed by the second "checking system..." progress display.  Then a new window with advice about keeping firewalls turned on, etc. pops up.  Continuing from that point pops up a new error box saying:
"The specified path is too long C:\Program Files (sLar dig mer med hjalp av en demo pa skarmenHitta enkelt dina foton med onskad metod-Datum, Markning, Mappar, Sok, Favoriter)\HP\."
I have done this multiple times, and the parenthesized phrase (Swedish?) is sometimes different, but always wrong.  It looks to me as though the installer is trying to decide whether to install 32- or 64-bit drivers, but can't decide which.  It fails to initialize a string variable and concatenates garbage onto the "C:\Program Files" path string.
I have also seen an error box with the following error near this point:
    "C:\Users\Sid\AppData\Local\7zS4689\Setup\hpzrein01.exe" "-wStub" "3...
    "The parameter is incorrect."
Clicking OK on the error box aborts the installation.
Installing using the HP Printer Installation Wizard produces the same error message as the initial attempt with the downloaded installer about missing files with names containing "ice_suffix".
Installing using the HP Print and Scan Doctor progresses as far as the "path is too long" message.
I've done this now many times, trying different things, without success.  After each attempt, I run the Uninstall_L4 utility in utils\ccc under the installer tree, then run the OS Disk Cleanup utility.  Following an earlier post, I installed the latest version of Flash Player, with no change in symptoms.
Any fresh ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hi ehildum,
Thank you for the time and effort you put into your post. I can see you have done plenty of troubleshooting on your own, but I do have an idea.
If the USB cable is plugged in this could be causing issue. Assuming it is connected, let's unplug and take a look at the Device manager. The hpzpnp.ice_suffix indicates a plug and play 'pnp'.
Follow these steps and let me know what happens.
    Click on Start
    Right click on Computer
    Select Manage
On the left panel, click on Device Manager
Click on View at the top and select Show hidden devices
Look in the list for Other devices
If you see the printer here, right click and select uninstall
Look in the list and click on the arrow next to Printers
If you see the printer here, right click and select uninstall
Delete all files in the %temp% folder
    Restart the computer
Open the installer from your download  (AIO_CDB_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe)
Do Not plug the USB cable in until the software says so.
Please let me know the outcome of these efforts. If your USB cable was not connected please complete the above steps anyway to see if there is something stuck in the Device manager that could be causing the conflict.
I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Acrobat 8 Pro - partial printing under Windows 7 x64 - any ideas?

    Hi,
I've recently installed Acrobat 8 Professional as part of the CS3 Master Collection on a PC running Windows 7 x64.
Now, I'd read up about this in advance and found the dll file adobepdf.dll_64 prior to installation, but I was never asked for it. The installation ran to a successful conclusion without ever prompting me for the missing file. After installation I compared the installed file C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AMD64\AdobePDF.dll with the .dll_64 version I'd extracted and they were identical.
Initially, everything seemed to be working fine, I was mostly using Acrobat as a reader, but I was occasionally generating small PDF files - no more than half-a-dozen pages - through applications like MS Word. This worked - and still works - fine, but I've noticed a problem now I've come to start exporting much larger files to PDF.
If I print a long report from MS Access to the Adobe PDF "printer", then the standard "Printing..." box pops up as does a dialog box for me to enter the name of the resulting PDF file. At this point the Distiller window (with the title "Creating Adobe PDF") opens and both the printer dialog in MS Access and the Distiller window start counting through the pages as they always do.  However, without fail, usually at somewhere between around 50 and 90 pages (but it varies each time I print, even if re-printing the exact same thing) the Distiller window stops counting pages and just stalls. The application's printer dialog carries on working its way through the pages until it gets to the end of what it's supposed to be printing. Eventually the Distiller window closes and the log file opens up automatically in Notepad. Aside from the exact page number at which it stops, the contents of the file is always the same. For example:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[Page: 1]%%
    %%[Page: 2]%%
    .  <snipped>
    %%[Page: 84]%%
    %%[Page: 85]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfileaccess; OffendingCommand: showpage ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
The same kind of thing happens in InDesign (the only other application I could think of quickly where I had a document with a large number of pages which I could try to output) and that fails in a similar way whether I print the document to the Acrobat printer or Export it to PDF format.
However, the problem doesn't seem to be application related, instead there seems to be a cut-off point at around 30 pages. If I print (or export) to PDF something of no more than 30 pages (or I restrict the printing of something longer so that it outputs 30 pages or fewer) then the PDF file is nearly always generated OK.  If I go up to about 50 pages, most of the time it all appears to work OK but no file is produced. And more than 50 then the Distiller window stalling thing occurs.
I've updated all the applications in CS3 to the latest versions, so Acrobat Professional is now on version 8.2.3.
I know there are issues running Acrobat Professional 8 under Windows 7 x64, but I've not read of this specific problem in relation to that, so I wondered if that might be a red herring and there is a solution to this.
    Thanks.

Just for the record, in case anyone else comes looking for a solution to the same problem, the issue appears to be with my Kaspersky Anti-Virus software. By setting a check mark against most of the exclusions in the Kaspersky application control for Acrobat Distiller everything now seems to be working OK.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to read my original posting.
