Under Windows 7 - Fingerprint Reader Ignored After Standby Resume

I thought this was perhaps a platform-specific issue.  But both on my ThinkPad T61 running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and my new ThinkPad T510 running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, whenever I resume from standby, any finger swipe against the fingerprint reader is ignored.
Note - I am not using the rather large Lenovo fingerprint driver package because I don't want the bloat.  Just want a very basic, Ctrl+Alt+Delete password prompt replacement.
Does the "Registry patch to change IDLE IRP timing by Fingerprint reader driver for Windows Vista" need to be installed under Windows 7 (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67245)?

i didn't know the lenovo fingerprint driver package was more than just a very basic, Ctrl+Alt+Delete password prompt replacement? (at least not that i noticed)

  • IPhone 5S fingerprint reader fails after iOS 7.0.3 upgrade

    Hi all.
I recently updated my iPhone 5S to IOS 7.0.3 and ever since then, I am struggling to unlock my phone every time. I press the home button and then I used to just leave my finger on the button and it would unlock. Now it just doesn't seem to recognise my finger is even there.
I lift my finger off and put it on again and nothing. I lift my finger off and actually press the button again and leave my finger there and sometime it unlocks, sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't even say "try again" it simply doesn't recognise I'm trying to unlock it. I'm ready to chuck the bloody thing at the wall!!
Has anybody else experienced this problem since updating to IOS 7.0.3?

I bought my iPhone 5s a few days ago. It came with 7.0.3. It works 100% of the time, but people were having trouble with it when they went from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3. A lot of times, when doing an upgrade, the fingerprint scanner problem can be solved with some simple troubleshooting skills:
    Troubleshooting steps:
First, if you have never rebooted your phone after the update, it helps to reset your phone. This is just pressing and holding the home button + power button until the apple logo comes on the screen (the phone will power off and then on. When Apple logo appears, you can let go of both buttons).
If fingerprint scanner is still hit and miss, you should redo your finger prints by go to settings->general->touch id & passcode->touch id. Delete all saved fingerprints (swipe to the left and press delete). Add fingerprints again.
If it still doesn't work or still hit and miss, you can always reinstall the ios. This can be googled. For me, it is too much trouble, so I go to the next step..
Finally, if that's still no good, you can always take it back to the apple store. The warranty on it is a full year so it is free for them to just look at it and tell you if it's a hardware problem. I know cuz I have replaced my iPad, iPhone, and even my macbook this way. No, I don't do it on purpose, but apple products has flaws too. Especially if it is a hardware problem, I need it replaced - and since it is still under warranty, it is replaced for free. So I don't hesitate to stick it in their face. Well, don't be mean about it though. Just say it like it is without the attitude and they will do what they can to help you fix it.
Tips: when you replace your phone, they may or may not give you a "refurbished" phone. That's the only thing I don't like about replacing my apple things. BUT since iPhone 5s is so new, the chances of you receiving a refurbished phone is quite slim... Or so I was told. So don't wait.

  • Connection to windows server sometimes fails after standby

    Hello,
I am using a Macbook Pro with 10.5.5.
Connections to Windows file servers works well. But sometimes after resuming from standby the it is not possible to connect. The "Connect to..." hangs and in the konsole i see:
    23.11.08 11:37:34 com.apple.launchd[90] (com.apple.netauth.useragent[3770]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
After rebooting the mac it works again.
Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    Hello nobody loopback,
The following is unrelated to this post, however it is the only way I know to contact you.
    I found this page
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1218394&start=60&tstart=0
I have a nearly identical situation where a backed up my entire "Macintosh HD" to a compressed DMG image file. During the restore process on the Leopard Install DVD it froze and I had to force restart. Upon restarting, I found my internal HD with only an Applications folder filled alphabetically with 73 and a half apps ending with a half restored iDVD.app and worst of all my single copy DMG (I know, foolish) reporting a "No mountable file systems" error. Due to the highly proprietary and closed nature of Disk Utility DMG images, I have chosen to contact you directly for help as the Apple Reps turn me to 3rd party data recovery and Data Recovery companies claim they don't do file repair. I feel someone with a wealth of knowledge concerning the DMG file format is my only option.
I was wondering if you could help me out.
    So what do you say?
Here is the thread I posted for my case.

  • Outlook 2010 Under Windows XP Requests Authentication After Each Launch

We are working on installing a new Exchange 2013 environment.
Exchange 2013 SP1 Standard has been installed and then upgraded to CU7.  It is a single box for the CAS and MB roles. It is running Windows Server 2012 R2.
The domain and forest are in 2003 native mode, all domain controllers are running 2003 SP2 to meet the minimums.  Errors logs have been evaluated, DCDIAG runs on all DCs with no errors and repadmin is showing replication is error free.
We have a mixture of XP (service pack 3) and Windows 7 Clients.  Both are running Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
Outlook Version 14.0.6023.1000 (32-bit).  The Windows 7 clients open Outlook normally and are not prompted for credentials.  Windows XP clients are prompted for credentials once, each time they launch Outlook.  This is our problem we need to
    fix.
Clients under both Windows 7 and XP have no problem setting up the initial profile.  It finds the autodiscover quickly and configures the profile.
Because we have separate internal and external domain names  (cofm.com and mab.com) we purchased a SAN certificate from GoDaddy.  It contains the following:
    exchange.cofm.com (this is the cn)
    autodiscover.cofm.com
    exchange.mab.com
    autodiscover.mab.com
OWA works fine under either https://exchange.cofm.com or
https://exchange.mab.com.  Our users with Apple iPhones, Android and Windows phones have no problem creating connections to activesync.
Under the outlook clients, it doesn't seem to matter if we have selected cached exchange mode or not.  We have changed the "Logon Network Security" to use Negotiate Authentication or Password Authentication (NTLM) and it doesn't seem to matter.
Under the connection status it shows HTTP for Directory and Mail connections.
If we "Test E-mail Autoconfiguration" it connects using the credentials we provide and no errors seem to show up in the XML results.
None of the permissions on the default virtual directories differs from "https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg247612(v=exchg.150).aspx"
    Any thoughts?
Again...the authentication prompt only occurs with our Windows XP clients running the Outlook 2010...not the Windows 7 clients.  Switching the clients to Windows 7 or later is not in the budget atm.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2 under Windows 8 missing modules after update from version 4.1.4

After installing Palm Desktop 6.2.2 over version 4.1.4 on my Windows 8 Laptop for use with my Palm Tungsten E2, I now have only 4 modules...Expense, Note Pad, Media and Install. Where did Calendar, Addresses, etc., disappear to?
Also, the HotSync Manager version 7.0.2 offers USB, Network and Serial, but NOT Bluetooth in the Connections settings. I use a Bluetooth adapter from IVT BlueSoleil and their version 8.0.395.0 driver/software, that works fine with anything else.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    GoneFishin6, I'd suggest a clean uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop.
Your issue is the first I've heard of.  Others report success with Win8.
These instructions are for Vista but should work for Win8.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents --> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this point, skip the next step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck hide hidden files.
When using Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the PalmOS desktop folder. This is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.

  • HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader not prompting at login

    Hi there,
I have just bought the HP Envy 15-j140na diectly from HP. The laptop is fantastic, however I am having a problem with the fingerprint reader. The computer comes with the simplepass software version 8.00.57 already installed.
The problem I have is that once I have set up the fingerprint reader with simple pass, it doesn't prompt me to scan my print during the windows login and i have to log in normally. I have checked all of the settings and it should be set up, however there is no prompt. Just to note that everything else works fine. I can sign into websites on IE no problem at all using the fingerprint reader. It can be slightly frustrating as this defeats the point of having a fingerprint reader.
Any help to get it working would be greatly apprecieted,
    cheers guys.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
You are Eric are talking almost about the same thing -- Eric is trying to direct you to the part of the Logon program that is giving you problems, that is, the Windows Native Fingerprint Logon.
You are looking at HP SimplePass, the "third party" fingerprint software that sits on top of the Native Windows fingerprint reader software and "kind of" gets along with the Windows software -- most of the time.
Sorry, Not very good "geek speak".  Frown.
You can try the following to untangle the two programs and make them get along better:
Open the file > Click on Download > Click “Open in Adobe Reader”
    Instructions to Upgrade HP SimplePass
Jump down to around Page 10 (at writing) –
Remain calm and perform  the Pile of Rubble - Hard Reset Sequence
    Next:
On Page 2, Follow the steps:
Procedure - Update / (Re) Install HP SimplePass
    NOTES:
Pay attention to the "Order of Events", that is, finish the tasks in the order presented for best results.
Ignore References to Series 6 -- you are going to stay with Series 8 and update to the latest 8.x version.
Most likely you can use the Validity Sensor Driver already in your notebook -- you can check the Version in your Device Manager: if the Driver in your Notebook's support page is newer, you can download and install that Driver.
At this writing, the latest 8.x version package available in the Instruction Document matches that which is available at your notebook's support page - you may download either as you will.
Be sure you Export your Webcards!  You may not need to worry about the Import this time; it is good to know how to make the Backup and you should be doing this anyway!
    Reference:
HP ENVY 15-j140na Notebook PC Drivers
I don't know if this will make the two fingerprint programs get along better or not -- but it will put them on a more even playing field by updating the HP SimplePass to the later version and by resetting everything so the software has a reasonable chance of working.
There is also a bit of "check this and that" at the beginning of the Dragon Document that is specific to Windows 8.1 -- and some bits about your Security Software startup that may be relevant.
    I hope this helps...

  • Fingerprint Reader not working for unlocking user session

I have a Thinkpad T440 with windows 8.1 Enterprise and a strange problem with the fingerprint reader. After reboot, I can logon with no issue to the domain using fingerprint. When I lock the PC and try to logon again, biometric logon is not available and I'm unable to authenticate with fingerprint. When I do a "switch user", biometric logon is again available on the logon screen and I can logon to my session with fingerprint.
I've installed the latest Lenovo software via System Update, also all Windows patches. Client is joined to the domain, I have local admin right. Clients running Windows 7 do not have this issue.

  • T3150 Wireless Speakers not pairing under Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I previously successfully paired and connected a new Creative T3150 Wireless speaker set via Bluetooth to my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro + Windows 8.1 PC. But, audio stopped one day (for a reason I have yet to discover). Following some Bluetooth troubleshooting FAQ advice, I removed the device under Windows 8 Bluetooth Devices, hoping to re-add it. But, it has never been able to be discovered again under Windows Bluetooth pairing (even after I recycled power on both speakers and PC). For a test, I am able to still successfully pair and connect to the speakers using my iPhone's Bluetooth (independent of the Windows 8 PC). I am also currently using a Bluetooth Microsoft Surface mouse with the Lenovo successfully, no problems with pairing.
Might have the Creative T3150 drivers accidentally been uninstalled from Windows? If so, don't really know how to recover those.
    Any troubleshooting thoughts greatly appreciated...
    Thank you!

    Hi David,
Based on your troubleshooting steps, Im assuming that the problem is from your Windows 8.1 unit.
But in order to ensure this, you may want to test your speaker on another laptop/desktop unit with a different OS (EX: Win7) if you have one / can borrow from your colleague.
If the problem is originating from your Lenovo, it may be an case of just updating your Bluetooth driver. Try the link I posted below:
    http://malwaretips.com/threads/my-bl...ows-8-1.19729/
Right swipe your desktop, open search, type "device Manager",click the "view" then click "show hidden devices".. Look in the "Bluetooth Virtual Devices" "Human Interface Devices" and "Network Adapters" for any of the bluetooth to have and exclamation mark next to them, may be as simple as a driver not compatible, and usually if you find this and go to the manufacturers website, and go to the drives and download seciton, you may find a recent patch for this.
Here is another website tackling Bluetooth connectivity issues under Win8 PCs:

  • Still problems with Toshiba Bluetooth Adapter under Windows 7

Hey there, it's me once again.
I refer to my thread "Bluetooth Problem under Windows 7":
I thought after the solution from bluecat my problem was solved. But it's not really.
After installing the Windows Hotfix, it worked just shortly. But now the problem is the same.
When I delete the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and try to work with the Windows Bluetooth Manager, I see, that the Bluetooth icon is coming an going on the task bar. In device manager I said Windows, that it doesn't shut down the device to save energy. But I think the device is turned on and off and on and off...
I really have absolutely no idea what the problem is, but I am becoming terribly angry.
    Details:
    Windows 7
Dell Wireless Bluetooth Internal Adapter 350 (but it's made by Toshiba)
Drivers tried out: Vista Profile Pack from Dell Homepage (no stack installed, just driver) / Toshiba Bluetooth Stack (the latest version)
    This is the old Thread:
    Dear all
Just as I installed Windows 7, my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard don't work fine.
I use the Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Adapter, Logitech MX1000 mouse and keyboard and Toshiba Bluetooth Stack 8.00.02.
To connect the devices with my Computer, I firstly must disconnect the Bluetooth adapter by pushing Fn + F2 on my Dell i9400, after re-connecting I can search and connect the devices correctly. They work fine as long as the notebook is running.
After rebooting the notebook, the devices don't work anymore. They are still listed in Bluetooth Stack as known, but not as connected. Therefore I have to disconnect the Bluetooth adapter another time and re-connect it to be able to connect the two devices.
I firstly thought, that it's a Windows problem. I thought that Windows is able to put down the adapter to save some energy. But when I go to the Device Manager, there is no box for this option as known from other devices (f.e. USB-Ports). So this is not the problem. I think the problem is something else, maybe done by the Bluetooth Stack.
Under Windows XP this all worked perfectly. I used the same hardware and also the Bluetooth Stack by Toshiba (downloaded on the Dell Homepage).
    Anyone some ideas?
    Thanks!
    Daevu

    Hey there
Yesterday I made Format C: and installed Windows 7 new.
I did not install any bluetooth driver for my Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Adapter (made by Toshiba).
And now: The mouse and the keyboard are working. I even do not see them anywhere in my system, but they are working.
There is no bluetooth adapter in my device manager and I had not to connect the mouse and the keyboard with my computer. It's simply working without doing anything.
    I don't understand this...
    Is this a save connection?
    What I've tried already:
-> Installing newest Bluetooth Stack from Toshiba. Problem seen in the message above. I also installed the MS Hotfix. Same problem.
-> Installing "Vista Profile Pack" from Dell Homepage, recommended for my notebook and Windows Vista. There is no stack installed. So I had to connect the mouse and keyboard via Windows Bluetooth Manager. But the adapter was made on and off by windows, the icon in the taskbar came and went and came and went. Connection is 1 minute good, then some seconds away. Not possible to work with the mouse.
And now without installing any driver it's working. Am I stupid?

  • T440p, WIndows 7: Fingerprint Reader Fails on First Attempt to Log In, Works on Second After Delay

I have a T440p with Windows 7 Pro.  Except on rare occasions, I am unable to log into Windows with my first swipe across the fingerprint reader.   The green light is on when I do the first swipe and it immediately goes off and stays off for around 15 sesconds, during which time another swipe does nothing.  Then the green light will return and a second finger swipe will log me on.
Any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated.  It's made using the fingerprint reader for login impractical, because it's faster to just go to the password screen and log in that way.  Thanks.
    Thinkpad T440p: i7-4800MQ | Crucial 16GB DDR3-1600, 9-9-9-24 | Samsung 840 Evo 500GB SSD | Intel 7260 Dual-Band AC Wireless | Windows 7 Pro

    Thinkpad T61p
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I do see a several second delay before the fingerprint reader green light comes on after the login screen appears, but it's no where near as long as the delay I was previously seeing between the first failed swipe and waiting for the light to come on again.  The new driver is a great improvement and make the fingerprint reader work as I recall when I first purchased the T440p--though possibly a bit slower to light up after the login screen appears.  It would be great to see the fingerprint reader light come on more quickly after the login screen appears, but that's a minor thing compared to the failure on the first swipe.
Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to try this driver out.  So far, after a day of use and several times coming out of sleep, I haven't had any failed swipes.
    Skoop wrote:
sog, some feedback on that driver:
The installer runs but doesn't give any prompt that it has finished.  I was waiting for something to show, after the progress bars, but it just quits.  Before I restarted, I checked the driver version and saw the new one, so I figured that was all that was going to happen.  Driver is v.285, dated 1/29/15.
Restarted the PC and then put it to sleep (deep sleep mode/Intel Rapid Start).  First swipe does indeed work to login thereafter.
But:  It takes longer for the FP reader light to come on now.  I think it's that same 15 seconds mentioned above.  With the previous driver, the scanner light would come on almost right away with the login screen, but the first swipe wouldn't do anything.  Once the light came on again--that period of seconds, the swipe would work.
With this new driver version, I think that what's changed is that the light simply doesn't come on until whatever is going on in the background has completed.  So, in effect, getting a desktop takes the same amount of time, but with only a single swipe.  --Which isn't a complaint that a login should be able to be effected more quickly with the FP scanner.  Perhaps it can't.  Just reporting how it works now.

  • Tx2510us - Fingerprint Reader Not Detected after Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 installed

Have had Windows 7 32-Bit installed and running fine since early last year..   Today Windows Update installed Service Pack 1.
Now, the fingerprint reader (AuthenTec AES1610) is not detected.   Digital Persona reported the fingerprint reader isn't connected and the Device Manager shows installed and working properly..   When the computer boots, the logon screen shows not detected..
Have seen several older posts that reference a page with a fix for AuthenTec/Digital Persona, but get a 403 error when trying to access..
Hoping someone still has this info, or possibly there's a new fix to work with Service Pack 1..
    Thanks

Followed the given advice: installed SP1 again, ran Firefox in safemode, disabled other running programs as mutorrent, still Firefox didnt work. I had internetconnection (after restarting mutorrent this did work, the app telling me what the weather outside is worked) but no Firefox: as previous time I got the start screen, but could not browse the internet.
I also tried to start the Internet Explorer and it also looked as if that application had problems (but that can also be because I did not use it for a while - old version or whatever - and it is not my standard browser).
Have again performed a roll back in order to remove SP1, now Firefox works again.
If somebody has advice it would be very welcome!

  • Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

    Hi There
I was using windows login (single admin user) and fingerprint reader to login to my Thinkpad T510. Yesterday night I changed windows password and I didn't update finger print. Unfortunately I am not able to login when I tried to login using windows login today, I forgot the password and when I tried finger print reader it is just throwing error.
Why finger print is not working after windows password reset? What should I do to login?
    Help would be appreciated!!

I just called the tech support just now? I just asked the 'why the finger print reader not recognizing the finger print after changing windows password?', and he gave the following answers
    1. You should change fingerprint while changing windows password.  I don't understand the reason behind it, btw is this true?
    2. We can't do anything for this issue.

  • FIngerprint reader stopped working after windows automatic updates

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Envy j109tx laptop.
From day one the finger print scanner was not working.
After updating hp simplepass it started to work.
Again today I installed some windows update. After that it stopped working.
The light in the fingerprint reader is not turning on.
Is there a fix for this?
    Someone please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    @naga5speed ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  First thing did you do the windows update due to your system having some issue?
If not then do a system restore back before the update.
It is probably some microsoft update that is conflicting with the driver.
It is good to keep your system up to date.  But it is better to make sure before you run an update that you take a look as to why you are updating.
Do I need to fix an issue?
If i do not do the update will something stop working?
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If this fails to work then you may have to back up your data and run a system recovery.  The reason for this is what ever update you ran has made changes to system files or the registry that a restore will not fix.

Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 update for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.
