  • X58A-GD65 USB3 problem with WD MyBook

    Hi,
I have X58A-GD65 with i7 processor, 6 GB RAM, 4 internal HDD, 4 external HDD, Win 7 x64. Two of the external are WD MyBook Essential USB 3.0/2.0.
My Renesas drivers are v 2.0.34.0 (the ones from the board page).
When I plug two of the WD drives, only ones can be seen. Both on BIOS level and Win 7 level.
Any insight or any newer drivers that work?
    Sincerely
    Bülent

I memory serves corretly, there is a firmware update available from WD that pertains to this.
Also have you checked in the disk manager? Perhaps one needs to be set up.

  • MOVED: X58A-GD65 BIOS: should I update it to version 22.3?

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Undervolting & Modding Corner.

    Ok, so here's my system:
    Win7 64bit Ultimate
    MSI X58A-GD65 BIOS V22.2B8
    Intel i7 930 (D0) (OC @4.2GHz)
    RAM OCZ 3x2GB kit OCZ3RPR2000C8LV2G (OC @1.6GHz)
    OCZ RevoDrive 80GB
    2x WD Caviar 500GB 7200rpm SATAII
    Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
    Enermax Liberty Eco 620W (ELT620AWT-ECO)
Even if I remove the OC, all the APS LEDs are lit up. I shot a short video that I took with stock settings and system at idle, so that you can see what it look like.
I add that the problem was present even with the original BIOS v22.1 (and the PC was not overclocked, as it was impossible to do so with that BIOS).
Therefore, I was wondering if there are some settings that I should check, or if I can hope that v22.3 will solve the issue.
But I would also like to know other users' opinion regarding the fact that I'm using a beta version of the BIOS, and if for this reason I should upgrade it in any case.
    Thanks again!

  • X58A GD65 with Vertex 4 240gb SSD Sata3 issue

    Hey all,
Was hoping to get some help with an issue I have with my X58A GD65 board. I've just installed a Vertex 4 240gb SSD and I can't get it to run at the speeds it should which are around 500mb/s read and write.
It's plugged into the white sata3 port and it's just about breaking 200 mb/s..! :(  I've been reading bits online and I think this is to do with a bad Marvell AHCI driver? I'm currently running 1.2.0.1032.
How can I solve this? What drivers should I be running?
    Thanks
    -Mcbonio

Make sure the ide mode is achi. If the os was installed using ide you will need to make some registry changes.
    http://www.neowin.net/news/neowin-guide-how-to-change-from-ide-to-ahci-without-reinstalling-windows
Update the firmware of the ssd to the most recent and if that is no help, update the bios of the mainboard.
Note: Make sure to use the forum flash tool and download the bios from msi's website if you need to do this: >>MSI Downloads<< (I would link directly, but msi globals & usa's website has been having problems today.)

  • MSI X58A-GD65 Overclock Problem

    Hi there,
I have been trying to overclock my mainboard and it doesnt change my Clock Frequency, actually it changes but when I try to reboot system, it comes back to 133mhz again! I'm sure that it is not failure of overclocking, what should I do about this problem?
Every detail can change but clock frequency...!
I updated mainboard by the way to the last firmware.
NOTE: I manually change frequency on mainboard to 200mhz. now Setup says 200 mhz, while computer starts, startup says 200mhz, in Windows, it says 133 mhz! even CPUZ says 133mhz!... what is going on :S

I bought the MSI X58A-GD65 because I am a complete moron who wanted a hardware Easy Switch.
It works really well, but I was pissed when I noticed that my 12GB's of RAM was no longer recorgnized. Only showed 8GB's..............
So I set the Easy Switch to deafualt ( 133 ) and decided to overclock the CPU and tweak the RAM.
I just read every forum where people had problems w/ various settings, and since I only want 3.2GHz w/ 12GB's of RAM @1.4v it was a walk in the park.
Clearing the CMOS after a day of torturing myelf and committing Human errors,I easily was able to simply undervolt the RAM from the 1.65v default, and raise the 133 default setting up by a factor of 5 and rebooting.
So this is my first OVerclocking experience and MSI seems like a worthy board..
I use this to perform hardware and virtual musical synths and instruments 6 nights a week.
Since I cam from a solid 32bit DAW that ran 100% for 3 yerars,I didn't upgrade, but actually did an entire new rebuild since I wasn't sure ofthe stability in x64.
But this DAW has worked for days on end now flawlessley.

  • MSI X58A-GD65

    This is driving me crazy
Currently have this motherboard(no bios updates but is running ESXi) so cannot upgrade with out loads of problems
Anyway running 24 gig of ram
     2 ssd's a a 64 gig OCZ agility and a ocz 240 Onyz SSD
well i tried to add another 240 gig OCZ agility
anyway when copying to this drive the drive goes off line(shows no errors)
fair enough could be the drive
    then chnaged that for a
octane 2 240 gig ssd which has been running windows 7 for 4 months that shows no errors and working fine
plug that it and create the storage so i am able to use it
try moving data to it after a couple of mins that drive goes off line
re imaged windows to it and using it at the moment on another pc with no problems???
also the agiltity 3 drive is working fine within windows on another motherboard??
i just do not know where to go here now
made sure disks seem to be working fine but
when connected to the X58A-GD65 it seems to take the disk off line
funny though the 2 existing ssd's seem to be working fine
    any ideas?

I am not an ESXi user myself but I checked around and it could be a compatibility issue.
MSI does not test ESXi on their desktop boards.
Desktop boards may or may not work properly under ESXi, I can;t find any desktop boards in the hardware compatibility list of ESXi either.
So support will be thin if any.
Doesn't mean it shouldn't work though.
Have you tried a Sata HDD to see if that works?
Which version of ESXi and which verison of the datastore are you using?
    Do you run AHCI mode?
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1008673&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=384510726&stateId=1%200%20384530827
(IDE mode might have some issues)
Updating the bios as xmad suggested is also something you could try.
Which bios do you currently have?
I attached the latest bios (M46/v22.4B6), could you give that a try?
You can use this bios update in DOS or use the >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<

  • MSI X58A-GD65 Flash/Re-Flash the New/Same BIOS

    Hello.
I have some trouble with overclocking.
The BIOS always saves the Voltage settings but not the multiplier and MHZ and I would like to Re-Flash the same BIOS or a new one.
I can't find the BIOS that I have already flashed and the Live Update does not have any BIOS updates so I came here to ask.
Can I update to version V22.2 from this page? http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/X58A-GD65.html#/?div=BIOS
How can I find the BIOS that I already have and re-flash it?
PS) Please stay to topic questions don't tell me anything about my Cell Menu settings. They are fine because I have tried countless times to save them and only a few times they were actually  saved and worked at 4 Ghz.

Maybe others know why your board is stated to only be available thru live update but a quick google search and I found a link to a file with the exact same name as that bios.
http://www.msi.com/service/download/bios-14654.html (bios version 22.2) I'm assuming it's the same one stated on the page for your board that you linked.
I would wait for the more knowledgable people to say what method to use or if it's safe before just flashing anything.
BTW- live update sucks and never seems to work properly. When I first got my board I was thrilled to see an update function built into the bios. first thing I did was use it and it flashed my bios to a version older than what it shipped with!

    Hello every body.
Does anyone check 7522vM3 22.3 bios?, the 22.2 was a disaster, but what about 22.3?, or perhaps it works and resolve the problem of suspension state when you make overclocking.

    My experience with X58A-GD65 Bios
22.0 = dont get out from suspension state, Overclock runs ok
22.1 = it runs ok, OC ok
22.2= it has lots of problems, the main is the inestability of raid 0 over SSD, lots of blue screens, OC inestable.
So, dont upgrade to 22.2, stay in 22.1.
The upgrade of the bios shoud be done from the BIOS (you have an option to upgrade with an usb memory stick).

  • X58A-GD65 SLI help

    Hi all,
    New to the forum.
I was reluctant to start a new thread as I know that one or two similar threads exist yet I did not find a conclusive answer to my question.
I'm currently running 2x 560Ti cards in the first two PCI-E slots (PCI_E2 and PCI_E4) but due to the cards being so close together the primary card is getting rather warm so I placed the 2nd card in the PCI_E5 slot. The temps have since improved however I've noticed that the 2nd card is now only running at PCI-E 4x which is a problem as I'd prefer to have both cards running to their full potential.
According to the response that marosf got from MSI in his thread (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=143596.0) as long as only two VGA's cards are being used then both will run at 16x regardless of which PCI-E 2.0 slots are being used however in reality this does not seem to be the case. I've tried looking for a setting in the BIOS and even tried a BIOS update but nothing has helped. Is there some workaround I can try to get both PCI_E2 and PCI_E5 running at 16x?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I believe in the answer that user got from technical support, the PCI-Express slot numbers were screwed up.  Look at the specs for the board:

    "When you install two vga cards on PCI_E2 and PCI_E5, it´s running at Gen 2 x16 mode in 2way SLI. As to 3way SLI on 2x(Gen 2 x16) + 1x(Gen 1 x4), it will run PCI-E 4x."
    Read:

That is the only way the statement makes sense technically.
Compare what else was stated in that thread:

  • MSI X58A-GD65 BIOS Cell Menu Bugs!

    Hello,
I updated the bios to the latest version according to MSI's website (Update Date    2010-11-17 version 2.22)
I had configured everything from scratch and even Cell Menu options.
I had my CPU overclocked to 4.0 GHZ (20x200) and RAM to 1600 and in Extreme Profile 1 (8-8-8-24).
I verified that everything was ok and stabled (I did a couple of benchmarks and torture tests to be assured)
I noticed today that the BIOS refuses to run with the overclocked settings
By refusal I mean, it boots fine but it boots at 133x20!  (2660 mhz)
I tried setting the options again and nothing happened everything stayed the same.
Also I have disabled ALL POWER SAVING FEATURES like Green Power, Intel EIST and the like
    Some proof: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1514841
PS) I refuse to use the old bios because the old bios was worse than the current one and I will have more trouble with it.
    Give me a solution please.

  • 4GB out of 6GB on X58A-GD65 triple channel mode

I'm having some issues with ram with this board - 6GB installed, 6GB detected by CPU-z, but only 4GB detected by BIOS and Task Manager/Resource Monitor. I have tested all the ram individually and they have been found to be working.
First I tried installing the ram on the DIMM1 (black slot) but system won't POST, only power for a few seconds before powering down again. Only managed to POST when the module was installed on DIMM3.
    Summary:
    DIMM1: Failed to POST
DIMM3: BIOS registers as 2GB (correct)
    DIMM1+DIMM3: BIOS registers as 2GB
    DIMM1+DIMM3+DIMM5: BIOS registers as 4GB
    DIMM3+DIMM5: 4GB
    DIMM2+DIMM3+DIMM5: 4GB
    DIMM3+DIMM4+DIMM5: 6GB (dual channel)
    DIMM1+DIMM2+DIMM3: 2GB
    DIMM1, DIMM3 and DIMM5 are black.
    DIMM2, DIMM4 and DIMM6 are blue.
My problem seems similar to this guy's with his EVGA board: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=360061&mpage=1
Tried finding bent pins on the board but there wasn't any. Also tried reseating the CPU twice.
Not sure if it is a BIOS problem, because many people on Google are having this problem with other boards, but it was fixed by either BIOS update, fixing bent pins or reduce cooler mounting pressure, but none seems to work for me.
Should not be ram problem as this problem occurs with 2 sets of ram, Team Group Xtreem Dark 1600 MHz CL8-8-8-24 6GB (3X2GB) and OCZ Fatal1ty 1600 MHz CL7-8-8-20 6GB (3X2GB), but I may be wrong.
If it helps, my system specifications are as follows:
    CPU: i7 950
Mobo: MSI X58A-GD65 with v22.1 BIOS (Latest)
    RAM: OCZ Fatal1ty 1600 MHz CL7-8-8-20 6GB (3X2GB)
    Video: 2 X Zotac GTX460 AMP 1GB
    Sound: Auzentech X-Fi Prelude
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Thanks a bunch.

Still no luck. Even with stock cooler. The pictures show just now's results.
One thing I noticed that the socket is a little loose as shown below.
Compare the shadow at the "screw". I can lift it up by roughly 1mm and shake it about. Could that be the problem?

  • Macbook4,1 10.6.8 and firmware update - what went wrong?

Macbook 4,1 2008 2.4Ghz (not unibody). I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 10.6 from the Retail DVD and all seemed to go well. The MB was working fine up to that point. I then set up the MB (network, date and time, etc.) and repaired permissions.
I then checked Software Update and downloaded and installed the recommended updates to 10.6.8.
Again, all seemed to go fine. System booted and I repaired Permissions again. I went to the Apple web site, a couple of other web sites, and Software Update found another update to install: Firmware. Though I don't remember what version.
I clicked OK and it installed.
Upon reboot, it seemed to install okay.
But then I left the Macbook and it went into Sleep.
I didn't come back to it again until the next day.
When I pressed a key to wake it, I got what I now know is the screen that appears after you wake it from SAFE SLEEP. As per this Apple KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757.
And this is where the problems started.
After the MB woke to the Safe Sleep screen, which shows the desktop a little "out of focus", the progress bars started filling in from left to right, BUT before they completed, the screen went BLACK.
And it has had a problem with black screen ever since. I can boot the MB from internal or external HD or from DVD, and it seems to boot fine. Boot chime, Apple logo, spinning wheel, then at the point where it pauses, blue screen, then goes to desktop, instead the screen goes black.
It finishes booting, but seems to go into Sleep.
I can wake it by pressing a key, but the screen either comes on and goes black again after 10 seconds, or I get the Safe Sleep wake screen, and then it goes black after 10 seconds.
And at boot or when waking the MB, the front LED flashes 5 times. There are no error beeps.
I've tried changing RAM, but problems remain.
So what's all this? Any ideas?
The display doesn't seem dead, as it works to boot and wake. The MB works fine with external monitor.
It's weird, but I can't think of anything apart from the Firmware update. The problems started right after installing it.
Unfortunately, this model of Macbook doesn't have a Firmware Restoration image to download and burn to CD. It is the ONLY Mac at this point that doesn't have this!
I called Apple support and even bought the 49 Euro Pay Per Incident service, which proved to be the same as throwing 49 Euro out the window. The only "technical" support they provided was to Reset the SMC, which you can find out about FOR FREE at the Apple website. And which I'd done anyway. I'd also reinstalled the MacOS. Don't want to beef too much, but sheesh, you've already got a Macbook that might need costly repairs, and they make you pay 49 Euro BEFORE they even ask you about the problem and what you've done to try to solve it. I'm tempted to say "ripoff". I mean, if all they can offer you is the advice to reset the SMC - which Apple offers for free at their website - then that's pretty poor service for 49 Euro, to say the least.
Apart from the wasted 49 Euro, I'm pretty peeved about the Firmware update (or so it seems) wrecking a perfectly working 2008 Macbook. I don't know how to convince Apple of this, but I'm certainly going to try.

    Thanks for the reply.
Re. the Displays setting, the Macbook display isn't recognized and mirroring isn't an available option.
I've scoured the net and the idea of replacing the PRAM battery may be something to try. I read a post by a guy with a Macbook logic board screwed up by a Firmware update, which he solved by replacing the PRAM battery, as when you disconnect it you reset the logic board.
    Which capacitor?
No luck so far with talking to Apple. I will try to get hold of someone a little more tech savvy and/or in a position of authority, as it seems that the Firmware is the culprit. Obviously a million other things could go wrong with a Macbook, but given the timing here it looks like the Firmware. Firmware updates can and occasionally do screw up a computer, as most manufacturers will warn you before you apply the update: PC makers, printer makers, etc. And they probably warn you that it's all your responsibility if anything goes wrong. But re. the Apple Firmware update:
    1) it came thru Software Update
    2) there was no warning
    3) to make things worse, there's no Firmware Restoration image that I can burn to a CD to reflash the logic board: this is the only Apple computer that doesn't have a Firmware Restoration option
I'll try to get thru to a manager and convince him/her that the firmware may have been the cause.
Do you think an authorized Apple tech might have access to some way to do a firmware restoration? Something not avaiable to mere mortals? Because if not, the only solution looks like a new logic board.

  • New symptoms since latest firmware update

OK I have a 1tb sky hd box which hasn't had any really annoying issues up until the new firmware update (the one with the new Kids tile which is annoying in its own right).  Anyway, I have been watching the cricket on SS2 and every so often when they break for a short advert between overs I've lost sound when it tries to revert to DD5.1 after switching from 2.0 on the adverts.  I have to change channel and back again to get the sound back.    Also, for the first time, my planner was showing empty today so I had to do a planner rebuild which solved the issue.  Still, at least they  seem to have solved the sound dropout issue.  So just heads up for anyone else with a 1tb box who experiences the same issues.

    (Quoting Karl Petersen here:)
There's a bug in iMovie 6 that makes it impossible to re-edit (Update) photo clips previously imported with the Ken Burns checkbox ON. The source photo, normally stored in the Media folder of the project, is (inappropriately) discarded when you empty the iMovie trash. The clips Update as black clips and the preview is usually black too, if I recall.
The workaround is to 1) drag the photo from the iMovie trash to the iMovie Clips pane; or 2) never empty the iMovie trash.
