How to do XAResource.recover() on a 8.1.6 DB ?
Somewhere in the docs it was written that XA recover was not
supported with JDBC drivers 8.1.6.
I'm using a 8.1.6 DB, with the 9.0.1 drivers, and I'm failing to
perform transaction recovery by calling XAResource.recover();
Actually, when I call XAResource.recover(), I do get a list of
to be recovered XIDs, and then I rollback each one.
But if I immediately call recover on the XAResource, the same
list of to be recovered XIDs is given as result.
And therefore, when trying to start a new transaction with a XID
that is among the ones to be recovered, I get a XAException
(RM_ERR).
So, how can I really recover those transactions ?I want to know if we need to use just one instance and do the adpatching while we apply the mP
ie by putting cluster_database=false in init.oraNo.
or can we havwe both the rac instances up and running while runninfg 12.1.1 and 12.1.3 MPYes, or you could have one instance running.
Thanks,

Hi Bashobi,
1. Since you can not reproduce the issue from sysadmin responsibility can we say the issue specific to Receivables Manager

2. You said before: "Concurrent process for XML Publisher fails with warning. Cannot see Diagnostics
--> XML output completely. Only first page visible. Buttons and Menu items
disabled not allowing to view the whole XML file to troubleshoot for
correct/incorrect tags.":
Is the above mean :
-The xml publisher report completed but you can not view the whole XML file
-Or the xml publisher report error out with "Jave.sql SQL Exception No corresponding LOB data found: select File_data_dbms_lob.."
Thanks.

CharaAfter every resetlogs you have to take fresh backup.
It seems you have opened your database in resetlogs and your backup is prior to this resetlogs.So the controlfile is showing inconsistance with the other datafiles. -
Time Machine spends hours partially backing up and then fails with "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem." I've tried various suggestions I've seen on the forum but nothing has worked. TIme Machine worked fine for the last two years and just suddenly started having this problem every time. The only thing that was a little different is that the computer was off for a week while on vacation and then I added a large amount (20 GB) of photos. Now the requested backup size is 82GB, which is large, and process proceeds very slowly for 2-3 hours before failing with the message mentioned. I have more than enough available backup storage space for it. Before failing, Time Machine has backed up no more than 12GB or so of the backup. It fails during different files each time.
I've turned off the computer sleep feature, and I've checked that the NAS is set to never automatically power down. I normally backup over Wi-Fi, but I've also tried connecting to Ethernet and it still has the same problem. It's odd because I also have a MacBook Pro that is still backing up fine to the same NAS using the MacBook's Time Machine.
I am using an iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and an Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS.
I have system logs that I can share if helpful. The logged messages vary a bit from run to run, but here are some messages that I've been seeing:
I always get this message near the beginning of the backup:
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD
I've gotten this messsage a number of times:
Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.

That looks like a problem was found with the file system (data) on the TM disk. I don't know the details, but OSX tried to recover it from the journal, and found extra data on the drive. Likely a result of the incompatibility mentioned above.

Something caused a disconnect. Can't tell from the log what it was.
I doubt it's a problem with something in OSX being damaged or corrupted, but reinstalling OSX isn't a major hassle, so might be worth a try.
To be incompatible with Snow Leopard, this NAS must be at least a couple of years old. It may be beginning to fail.
Contact the maker. See if there's an update to make it compatible with Snow Leopard. If so, that might fix it.
If not, or if that doesn't fix it, see if they have any diagnostics that will shed any light. -

* There is a big problem with the HP recovery manager which fails to recover windows. Many have reported in this forum and other forums....but HP has failed to attend this issue and fix the problem in their recovery manger or atleast show a workaround to restore the windows.
My laptop was drastically slow after the reinstall from the HP support.....and now when i decided to reset and recover the windows.....it fails. Unfortunately my laptop is out of warranty.
This is pushing me away from any HP and will never ever buy or recommend anyone to buy a HP product.
History about previous issue with this laptop:

* I had an issue with the HP recovery manager in creating recovery disc. I did contact the HP support as my warranty was still in place. They took my laptop and reinstalled the OS and sent it back to me.
Even after that i could not create a recovery disk and they send me a USB recovery device.

Updated to OS5, restoration failed with error -50.
I updated the phone to OS5. Restoration failed with an error -50.
I lost all my contacts, email setup, photos and other configuration.
How do I get back my contacts?same thing happenned to me.
IOS5 installed fine, but the restore failed.
Eventually, I just logged in as if it was a new phone. iTunes remembered my apps, but all the data is still gone.
And then it backed up on me.
I'm on a winxp box, and I had gone into C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer
and I copied it to another location. So perhaps, if they get this fixed, I can recover the items from this old location.
but, to be honest, I have lost a whole day messing with this, and I am very annoyed. -

Backup Fails with Invalid RECID Error: Solution 2
This solution is more difficult than solution 1:
To create the control file with SQL*Plus:
1. Connect to the target database with SQL*Plus. For example, enter:
% sqlplus 'SYS/oracle@trgt AS SYSDBA'
2. Mount the database if it is not already mounted:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
3. Back up the control file to a trace file:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;
4. Edit the trace file as necessary. The relevant section of the trace file looks something like the following:
# The following commands will create a new control file and use it
# to open the database.
# Data used by the recovery manager will be lost. Additional logs may
# be required for media recovery of offline data files. Use this
# only if the current version of all online logs are available.

Now when the database needs media recovery for this particular log sequence, you may provide any of them. So in this case, RMAN and Oracle will not be able to differentiate the two files and can accept any of the archived log files during recovery. Since the contents of two archived logs are different, because they are generated at different times and they contains different transactions. So, internally it corrupts your database.

Recover database with corrupt datafile
I have an Oracle 9.2.0.6.0 database which has crashed due to disk failure & there is no backup. on the disk that failed there is one rollback datafile so I was hoping to be able to just drop this datafile & the related tablespace & recreate on disk that is OK.
I found the following instructions in a thread on this forum & managed the offline drop of the datafile & the alter database open. However when I tried to drop the rollback tablespace it couldn't find what I though the tablespace was. Now when I try & do anything with the DB is failed with the error -
Error 376 happened during db open, shutting down database
USER: terminating instance due to error 376
Instance terminated by USER, pid = 47050
ORA-1092 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE OPEN...
the instructions I was following were :-
Database was NOT cleanly shut down
I.e. Datafile was accidentally dropped using operating system command, when the database was not cleanly shutdown using SHUTDOWN ABORT COMMAND.
* Check the alert.log file for this instance.
* Comment out the ROLLBACK_SEGMENTS parameter and add the following line: corruptedrollback_segments = ( ,...., ) i.e., the above list should contain all the rollbacks originally listed in the ROLLBACK_SEGMENTS parameter.
* Mount the database in restricted mode. STARTUP RESTRICT MOUNT
* Offline drop the lost datafile.
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE OFFLINE DROP;
* Open the database.
ALTER DATABASE OPEN.
* Drop the rollback tablespace to which the datafile belonged.
* Recreate the rollback tablespace with all its rollback segments. Remember to bring the rollbacks online after you create them.
* Make the database available to all users.
* ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
You should be able to see your database back at this step.
Any ideas how to indentify the tablespace that I need to drop & how to get the database into a state that will let me attempt this?latest entries in alert.log ...

CATALOG START WITH "+TBL_DG_DATA/ORCL/DATAFILE/" NOPROMPT;
catalog start with "+DG_ARCH/ORCL/ARCHIVELOG/" NOPROMPT;
The time i gave was after the snapshot was created.
When it failed the first time I created another controlfile using
sql "alter database backup controlfile to ''/tmp/auxpran/controlbc.ctl''";
And ran the recover command after the time after i generated this controlfile. Changed nothing else. TSPITR completed successfully. But it had failed first time. Cannot figure how it ran the second time but failed the first time.

Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 fails with error 23:3 on MacBook 2,1
I attempted to install "Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0" on two laptops tonight.
Macbook Pro 3,1:
Hadn't experienced the issue that the firmware would resolve. Installed the update anyway, successfully, and continued to have no problems since.
Macbook 2,1:
Hadn't experienced the issue that the firmware would resolve. Tried to install the update, but it failed with error "23:3". After the failure, the keyboard was non-responsive for about 30-60 seconds, during which time I assume it restored/re"booted" itself. Keyboard function was restored automatically after this time, though there was no indication that it would return, and I had to suffer a minor sweat. Still, I didn't learn I power cycled the system and tried again, but the update never installed successfully.
Lessons learned -
If it ain't broken...
That said, Apple seems to have designed their hardware well enough to be able to recover from a failed firmware update. In this case, you just have to pray a little until the keyboard responds again.
Apple: be so kind, let us know what 23:3 means, and if needed, update the Firmware Updater.
//Hi,
I was just wondering how you were able to get the macbook to accept the update? I had to take mine to apple store and get entire keyboard and trackpad replaced in my macbook. They then told me to ignore the update cause they did not have any other keyboards to replace if it happened again. -

Any idea ?
Thanks.here is one test case, i ran into same issue. and reolved as below.
When Standby_file_management is set to “MANUAL” , if any data files added on primary database, These changes certainly won’t be altered in standby database.
After starting MRP process, it dies and terminated with the following errors.

Check out from SQL, Which files need to be recovered on standby database?
SQL> select * from v$recover_file where error like '%FILE%';
FILE# ONLINE ONLINE_ ERROR CHANGE# TIME
+536 ONLINE ONLINE FILE MISSING 0+
SQL>
On Primary check out for actual naming convention:-
SQL> select file#,name from v$datafile where file#=536;
FILE# NAME
+536 DATA/c/datafile/undotbs9.595.750444337
SQL>
On Standby check datafile name:-

FILE# NAME
+536 /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/UNNAMED00536+
SQL>
Make sure still standby_file_management is set to “MANUAL”, After performing media recovery again can be enabled to “AUTO”.
Rename datafile from standby database:-
SQL> alter database create datafile '/oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/UNNAMED00536' as 'DATA3/cc/datafile/undotbs9_595_750444337';+
Database altered.
Start the MRP Now:-
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
Database altered.
After creating the file, MRP will start applying archives on standby database. -

DB 7.8 Restart fails with SQL error -9407, unexpected error 3
Hello,
MaxDB Instance (7.8.01.18) fails to restart with the error
"SQL error -9407 System error: unexpected error 3
Internal errorcode 6433 "system_error" 20017, Restart Filesystem failed with
'System error unexpected error'
9, File directory restart failed; error '3'
31, Error linking entry to parent; file no '000000004066',
parent file no '000000000000000000033D',
file type 'IndexFile', error '11'
We had the problem "[-8]: Execution failed, parse again" with one table,
then we tried to restart the database. Now it doesn't come up any more.
Is there another possibility instead of a recovery?
Greetings
UlrichYour problem description sounds very similar to the following error:
PTS1237652:
"Appearance:
Restart fails with file directory corruption:
31,Error linking entry to parent; file no 'xxx', parent file no 'yyy', file type 'IndexFile', error '11'
Preconditions and circumstances:
During a recreate index operation the index was dropped and recreated manually.
Workaround:
None. The system must be recovered to the time just before the index was recreated."
Please note that this is one of those issues that has only been fixed with 7.8.02. 7.8.02 is currently in customer testing, if anyone wants to join, just open a CSS message and test this version before we make it generally available for download.
Best regards,

3GS recovering fails shortly before end
My iphone worked fine without any problem. I didn't take care for a second and hit against the front side of the phone. The glass was still ok but the touch screen underneith showed some markings in the right lower edge of the display. All functions were ok, also the touch screen worked fine with the only problem that I could see the screen information in the area of the markings.
I had no time to give the phone to maintenance (for changing the screen) and continued to use it for some weeks. Suddenly the phone felt into maintenance mode (the mode with the apple logo in the middle and the information to recover is with itunes).
I connected it to itunes, the phone has been recognized and itunes informed my that the phone has to be reseted (recovered). I confirmed this and the normal process started without problem. At the very end of the recovering process (the with line is 99% complete) there is no more progress. It takes some time (the software seems to try to complete the recovering) and then there is a message that the recovering was not successful.
I tried this with several different computers, new itunes installation, XP, Vista, Windows 7. Everywhere the same result.
Are the any ideas how I can bring the phone back to life?Hi David, I am not really sure what you meant by recovering your lost files, either before or after the Leopard upgrade. But I would advice, and anyone would do the same, is that before you perform a major OS upgrade, it is prudent and important, in fact, a MUST, that you back up all your current data to another disk... that is the "full assurance", if you can clone your entire drive to another, using utility like SuperDuper, so in the event when your upgrade/install fails, you can rely on your back up.
I guess that is one way of recovering your lost files.
After you have successfully install and run Leopard, I also encourage you to use Leopard's Time Machine, which requires another hard drive other than the internal to "act" as a back up drive, so if you have a "single drive" macs like the iMac, Mac mini and the portables, then you will need an external drive to be the designated Time Machine drive, by using Time Machine, you can also recover lost files in a much simpler and easy way. SuperDuper is currently not completely compatible with Leopard, so you should use Time Machine instead
Cheers
