Yet another - Retake Button Missing - WITH PICS!

I read a bunch of threads on the retake button, but still can't solve this one.  I included pics to help everyone out.  Thanks so much in advance!!
PROBLEM:
Retake button is not displaying.
SCTRUCTURE:
SCORM Course
No points are reported to LMS until the final congrats screen.
PICTURES:
CBT - Quiz Review slide with missing Retake Button (ignore overlapping text.  i use a script to determine which phrase to display).
A)   At the end of the quiz, it sends them to 1 of 3 slides, based on my Score variable value:
B)  143 - You are a CHAMPION! slide.  On this slide, they click a clickbox that sends 2 points to LMS, marking them passed with perfect score.  CBT ends, marking them passed in LMS.
C)   112 - 128 - You are a MASTER! slide.  On this slide they click a clickbox that sends 1 point to LMS, marking them passed.  User has choice to advance to Quiz Results Slide, if they want to retake the quiz to try to earn a CHAMPION score.  If not CBT ends, marking them passed in LMS.
(Notice how results are only reported to the LMS at the end of the MASTER or CHAMPION branching.)
D)   0 - 111 Quiz Results Slide, where they should see a retake button.
E)  Retake button Quiz Results Slide in slideshow
F)  Retake button is enabled in settings, with infinite chances.
G)  Quiz set to optional.
H)  This is an example of the You are a MASTER! slide.  They have to click the click box to see their Master score.  Clicking the click box sends 1 pt to the LMS, marking them as passed.
I)  If someone does not score high enough (using our custom Score variable), they skip the MASTER and CHAMPION slides that have the click box that reports to the LMS.  They go straight to the View Quiz Results Slide with the Retake button.

Making progress...
I had to change the points for all the Question Slides to 0.  Even though they are set to NOT report to the LMS, they were counting towards the quiz score.  Once the quiz score got above 1 (which is the passing score), the retake quiz button did not show.  I changed all the questions slides from 10 points to 0.
REMAINING PROBLEM:
Now, I still can't think of a way to let the user retake the quiz when they achieve MASTER status.  MASTER status marks them as passed, but I want them to click the Retake Quiz button to start over and try to earn the perfect CHAMPION status.

  • Yet another Nano 6th Gen with power button failure

When is apple going to put its hand up and admit there is a problem with the 6th Gen Nano. My daughters 13 month old 16gig  ipod has a power button failure the same as so many others. At £120 odd its already an expensive bit of kit without having to purchase an extended warranty. Pay another £50 for a repair and another years use? I dont think so.
I notice the sales pitch  boasts the new ipod has been "completely renanoed"  Come on Apple why dont you look after the little people and give us a decent trade in on these faulty year old ipods against a new sorted one? Patrick

Well a robust defence of your product Apple well done!

  • Yet Another iPod Touch user with WIFI problem

I have Linksys WRT54GS wifi router setup at home. I use four notebooks, one mac mini and one mobile phone (Nokia N80) without any problem on my wifi network.
The only problem is with my brand new iPod Touch 16GB (firmware: 1.1.2 3B48b - no jailbreak). It always shows an error "Unable to join the network 'MY-SSID-NAME'". I have tried to change SSID, change security settings (WPA, WEP, no security, ...) - but nothing helped. All other devices (notebooks, macmini and phone) always worked like a charm.
iPod worked only once - the first time I used it (after buying). Since then it does not. I have tried all resets, Restore in iTunes, ...
I think it might be a bug in firmware. Please help someone.
BTW: How (an where) can I report a bug to Apple ?

Just like many others, I bought Ipod Touch in Christmas and felt frustrated about surfing the net. I have read many posts in the forum. And I have tried many methods suggested by others to try to figure out the problems. Finally I have solved the problem and I want to share some ideas with others.
    Steps of Checking:
    (1) Check whether you have a wireless network at home or at work. Check whether the network is security protected or not. If it is, better ask the admininistrator (at home, the admin should be the one who bought the wireless router.) for password.
    (2) Check the latest firmware upgrade for the wireless router (in my case, I use Linksys WRT54G. After I upgraded the firmware, my ipod touch could get the necessary IP from the router.)
    (3) For the wireless router, better broadcast the SSID for the first time so that the IPod Touch can find it easily. I use WPA2-Personal Encryption AES (though many buddies here point out that WEP, WPA or even no security is also okay). I even set the MAC filtering and the Ipod Touch still works fine!(though you need to input the MAC address of your Ipod Touch to the MAC filtering table in the admin page of your router. the MAC address of Ipod Touch can be found in the Ipod Touch general information. There is a string like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
    (4) To mininimize the interference from neighbouring wireless networks, better try the connection near the wireless router.
    (5) If you have tried for several times and failed to connect, you may reset the router by powering off for 15 seconds and reset the network configuration of the Ipod.
I have used Compag IPAQ before and I must say that for those tiny toys with Wifi capability, the connection is not that stable. However, I find that using the Ipod Touch to watch Youtube video is very good and the speed is excellent!
The steps suggested above are not exclusive. There are too many factors which influence the performance of Wifi. Hope you will succeed and enjoy the Ipod Touch in the New Year 2008!

  • Yet another head scratching limitation with the iPhone

I just recently 'upgraded' to the iPhone 4 (from Android) and I am beginning to see that the iPhone/Apple is really not as forward thinking and innovative as I once thought.
For instance, today I learned that it is 'impossible' to transfer files to/from the iPhone (e.g. cannot use the iPhone as a USB data drive). Although some programs do allow transferring of specific files (e.g. audio recorder), however, those limited data transfers are only allowed through iTunes! Are you kidding me?
Well, this poses a dilemma for those who are not allowed to install iTunes in a corporate environment due to IT policy. I also find it ridiculous that, not too long ago, iTunes was required to charge the Apple device? I guess Apple does believe in small incremental evolutionary steps forward after all.
So, what this means is that I must jail break my iPhone just to access a basic feature that every other non-iPhone already has! Unfortunately, Apple insists on playing a cat/mouse game with jail breakers. I believe I need to await the next iOS in order to fix bugs with v4.1 but by doing so I can't jail break. Or I just put up with the bugs and jail break in order to make my iPhone usable in my work environment.

I changed to the iPhone because my HTC Magic was locked in on AOS 2.1 and I was never going to see Corp. Google Apps syncing, hidden SSID WiFi access, and of course the many apps that iPhone has (e.g. fully operational Skype, ZipCar, etc.).
But the grass is not always greener. The iPhone has a whole list of omitted productive and useful features that Android had...and even my 4 year old Windows Mobile phone had. It makes me wonder, Does Apple live in a vacuum?
a multimedia device, not a better phone,
It is a great multimedia device! No complaints about that! But it would not take much for the iPhone to also be a great business tool and phone. Unfortunately, that which would make it great all around will require jail breaking!
and proper notifications managements is a bummer.
Notifications???? Where are any notifications (besides the pop ups in the locked screen)?
I keep hearing these 'bings' coming from my iPhone but I have no idea what is causing them. On the Android, it is a simple matter of sliding down a window and viewing a historical list of notifications from every participating app. The phone can be set to provide continuous audible and/or visual notification until this notification list is cleared. The fact that the iPhone doesn't have anything like this is baffling to say the least.

  • Yet another chat applet, but with good reason...

Hi, I realise there are thousands of perfectly good chat applets out there (and millions of rubbish ones) but this is a last ditch to make something functional, fun and effective for my Computing Coursework. Thanks to AQA's sylabus, any remotely interesting topics are inplausable as it would result in me getting an instant U.
My questions on this topic are as follows...
What would be the best way to connect applets to server?
    - Straightfoward Sockets
    - RMI
    - XML-RPC
With the last two would these run on joe user's browser without an additional extra bit being installed? Also, if sockets is the best answer is it possible to use XML as my data transfer medium? How can I encrypt this? If RMI is the best solution, are there any quick and concise tutorials kicking around? Will RMI be secure? How can I make it secure? Are all of the above clouding the issue too much and is there a better solution?
Thanks in advance. Sorry if that left your head in a spin...
    - Andrew

I did this a few years ago with straight socket communication. I would say start off with that, then if you'd like to use XML you can still send XML through the existing socket connections and parse it on the other end. But, there's no reason to make it more complicated than you need it, especially if you'll get a bad grade.

  • Yet another post about problems with a Zen Mi

So the deal is everytime i try to put music onto my micro it says it's busy or not connected, but i know it is connected and i know my USB ports are fine, i can however make it work temporarily if i reformat it from recovery mode, but that of course deletes all my songs, im pretty sure i have the firmware i'm supposed to .....02.05..... but im not for sure, and also i did see on one of these threads that someone had bought a new usb cord and that fixed their problems, but i'd rather not waste the money if it wont fix it, any input would be very much appreciated

Well believe it or not, i did do my research and i looked through the FAQ and many many other posts about micro problems, and i know that the computer is not the problem, and for anyone who has made a similar post in the past and fixed the problem please let me know because on pretty much every thread i looked at the problem was not resolved, or at least not posted as resolved, but once again my main question is could it be the USB cord?

After having yet another problem with my MacBook Pro and having to wipe the drive, I am now unable to sync my iPhones etc without erasing all the music on them. Is there a way around this? I have no other library!
iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • Yet another major gripe with APE - restricting connection to home network

Yet another serious issue I have with APE is the fact that since very often, the computer just can't see the base station (even when it is located 30 inches from it...) it will just automatically connect to the next available open wifi network, which happens to be my neighbor's... that way I often finding myself surfing someone's else's unsecured network and it's ******* me off.
I tried to delete all wireless networks from system preferences/network/Airport but this does not makes a difference. Any idea on how to restrict my computer to the APE or at least have Mac OS warn me every time before it connects to an unsecured wireless network?
    Thanks.

Somewhat easy: I'm assuming you're using Leopard, mainly because I ran through the options from leopard. Other versions of OS X may have slightly different placement or names...
Click on the airport icon in the menu bar.
    Choose "Open Network Preferences"
    Select "Airport"
There's a checkbox labeled "Ask to join new networks" Make sure it is enabled.
Select "advanced..." (it's a button, lower right)
You can change the connection order by dragging your network to the top of the list.
You can also click on a connection you don't want, then click on the '-' button below it to remove that connection. (and at least the first time, the computer will ask you if you want to connect)
You can go a step futher, by de-selecting the checkbox labeled "Remember any network this computer has joined" That way it won't add anything to your list of 'remembered' networks.

  • Is this yet another problem with 7.5 or is it just me . . .

Upgrade seemed to be fine, at first . . . now I keep getting distortion on songs. It seems to be quite random and just because a song has been distorted when I've listened to it once doesn't mean it will be when I listen to it again! It's driving me insane. Is this yet another bug or have I done something wrong (apart from upgrading to 7.5).

    Hi Emlou,
If you have a Windows based operating system such as XP -
It seems to me that you are suffering what I am having the same problem with - the program takes up to much of your computer's processing usage. If you go into your task manager and watch performance as ITunes runs - you will see how much of the total computer usage it is taking at any given moment - that's why your songs are distorted, slowing, garbled, etc - the usage on mine spikes from 11% - 93% AT ANY GIVEN MINUTE! I have no idea why, but I have found that by going to your "Control Panel" and clicking on Quicktime you can adjust audio output to help. Click the audio tab, click Safe Mode Wavout only (checkbox) / Then adjust the "Rate" to 96kHz / Then adjust the "Size" to 16 bit. Close that and shut down and restart Itunes - it might help a little for you.
Maybe someone out there can help us find out why we are suffering with all the CPU usage trouble and how to adjust that spiking.
    Thanks!
    Paul

  • HT204291 Since upgrading to iOS7, i have experienced issues with Airplay button missing

Since upgrading to iOS7, i have experienced issues with Airplay button missing from the control menu as well as in Spotify.  It is as if airplay is not runing.  A temp fix: Reboot of the ipad mini (Home button+standby) Is there anything permanent?
I have verified that my iPad mini and apple TV is up to date.
Airplay enabled, the network is connected with internet.
It is as if, airplay is a service that just stopped working and has to be restarted again via a reboot.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Yet another MacBook Pro with display issues (NVdia chip)

Exactly one year and 1 week after purchase, my video controller started freaking out. So just 1 week out of warranty, my display started flickering, blinking, showing garbled clumps of pixels and got progressively worse over the last week until, now, it locks up and/or reboots after about 15 minutes of uptime.
    I have:
    - installed all updates, including firmware
    - reset PRAM
    - re-seated RAM
    - replaced RAM
    - used SMC FanControl to try and keep the GPU cool
    - parked the MacBook in front of the fan/air conditioner in an attempt to keep the GPU cool
    - ran the Hardware Test, which returned a faulty video controller
None of the above have had any positive effect whatsover.
I've dug through these forums and hunted around the rest of the net for more info. Every symptom points to the NVidia GeForce issue. It seemed to be heat related. Maybe it was at first (even though max temps were never over 180 F), but after just one more day it doesn't seem to matter anymore. The machine is just FUBAR.
Tomorrow, I'm taking it in to the Apple store for service. Everything I've read here tells me it'll be at $1,000 logic board replacement since I'm a week out of warranty. Needless to say, if I come home tomorrow with a $1,000 receipt AND no laptop I'm going to be pretty upset.
What really concerns me is that, if I have to get the logic board replaced, they'll just put in yet another faulty board with another NVdia chip that will do the same thing all over again. There has to be another option, short of just getting a new iMac or tower with an ATI card instead. What else can I do?

http://noizesurge.com/downloads/gpu2.jpg - incidentally my computer had completely frozen at this point.
I'm pretty sure from observing these types of glitches that this is a hardware fault. I shall ring Apple on Monday and hopefully they can pick it up and sort it all out! Does anyone know roughly how long a turnaround is in the UK?
Yes, your video controller is toast. That's exactly how mine looked.
Just to make certain, run the Hardware Test:
    - Put in DVD 1 that came with your MacBook Pro.
    - Shut down
    - Restart, holding the D key
    - You'll be put into test mode, run the default test (no need to run the robust test at this stage)
I'm betting it will return a message that looks like: "4VDC/1/40000003: videocontroller"
If so, your logic board will have to be replaced.
The Apple Store I went to (Michigan Ave, Chicago) told me it would take 5-7 days. I'm not sure what UK times would be like, but I'd expect a little longer.
    bikemonkey wrote:
Incidentally, people are saying that they've have logic boards and what not replaced only for the problem to reoccur. Does this mean nVidia haven't properly fixed the issue?
Correct. Nvidia hasn't done a thing about this (that I'm aware of), and Apple seems to be putting the same logic boards with the faulty Nvidia chips back in.
Until we see a new/refreshed line of MacBook Pro's, I think we're stuck.

  • Yet another export issue with Aperture 3

Judging by a search of topics, there seem to be a myriad of problems associated with getting files out of Aperture, some of which represent occult setting issues, others which seem to be actual bugs.  I've run into an issue which seems to defy categorization, and I'm not sure if it's me doing something wrong, or if it is actually yet another bug with this software.  I've been an Aperture user since 1.0 and I have to say the current version I'm running (3.4.3) is by far the worst yet.  Anyway, enough whining.  Here are the issues:
I'm running Aperture on a 6 core Mac Pro with Lion 10.7.5.  There are two thing happening.
    1.  Exporting JPEGs is INCREDIBLY slow - perhaps as long as 4 or 5 minutes for a 3MB file.
    2.  This is the one driving me batty right now.  Tried exporting a batch of images as JPEGs at the 50% original size setting.  The master files are large 16 bit TIFF images from Nikon D800 RAW files, post-processed in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2.  They are 80-100MB in size.  When I export the images to a file on my Desktop, it consistently exports 6- 10 KB thumbnails.  I've checked and rechecked my export settings and can find nothing amiss there.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?  Could the view I'm working in have anything to do with this?  I work 95% of the time in split view.
    Thanks,
    Russ

I agree that there re a lot of posts about exporting, but a very large number of them refer to the same thing, and it's not a bug, but rather a misunderstanding.
    For instance:
Tried exporting a batch of images as JPEGs at the 50% original size setting.
    Okay.
The master files are large 16 bit TIFF images from Nikon D800 RAW files, post-processed in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2
    Not relevant.
    They are 80-100MB in size.
    Not relevant either.
    Why?
Because size refers to the dimensions of the image. So a 1,000 x 1,000 pixel image exported at 50% will turn out as 500 x 500 pixels.
Were you expecting a jpeg between 40 and 50 MB? That's Jpeg quality or the amount of compression applied to the image. And as you're compressing a lossless format (tiff) to a lossy one, and one with an aggressive compression algorithm, he resulting Jpeg, even at high quality, will be much, much smaller, more likely in the 6 - 8 MB range.
That's the nature - and indeed the point - of Jpegs.
So, if you're getting 6 - 10 kb images, you're exporting at a very low Jepg Quality.
This may also explain why it's taking so long to export. Getting rid on 99.99% of the data and compressing into 10kb is always going to take time.

  • Yet another dead mic with Win7 64-bit upgrd - Portege M700

Title says it all.  Mics used to work fine on this machine under Windows XP. Under Win7, except as I note below, the mic has inaudibly low volume with any Control Panel Sound settings. I've spent huge amounts of time trying to solve this. After seeing all the similar posts (with no solutions, it seems) from users of many different Toshiba laptops, I'm about to start spreading the meme across the Internet that Toshiba laptops can't use mics.
I started by upgrading to Win7 then adding just the 64-bit drivers I need from Toshiba's support site. No joy.  Then I started from a clean Win7 upgrade (64-bit Home) using Toshiba's upgrade script.  Nope.  Installed latest generic drivers from Realtek.  Hmm .. some progress, maybe: now with some Sound settings I can get slightly more volume but the mic input is drowned out by white noise-ish hissing.  All right, disable any other sound sources I can adjust: disable Chicony webcam driver from Device Manager. Hmm, now mike volume can get fairly high but the hissing still drowns it out.
Toshiba: At some level, this is a problem between Microsoft and Realtek, I know. But you can help us.  MS changed the audio model significantly since Win XP, including (god knows why!) giving up the little audio mixer app that used to let you adjust levels for different sound sources.  And Realtek's generic driver doesn't provide one either.  So just give us a way to adjust levels for different audio inputs!  Maybe I haven't Googled sufficiently and some hacker out there has one, but I kinda doubt it ... if it requires driver-level access as I suspect, Microsoft's new DRM-motivated hammerlock limiting us to signed drivers prevents us from fixing this ourselves.  (It also means we can't access our ext3 partitions without extreme measures, but that's another rant.)  So CAN SOME TOSHIBA ENGINEER PLEASE LET MANAGEMENT KNOW THEY'RE ABOUT TO DESTROY THEIR LAPTOP FRANCHISE OVER AUDIO ISSUES?  Just cut, paste, and forward a couple dozen of these threads.  Sure, it's a career risk but (wo)man up to it!  Audio really matters to laptop buyers nowadays ... without Skype, I'll have do carry Yet Another Device when I'm traveling.  Heck, I've personally bought at least 6 Toshiba laptops over the years and I'm starting to shop for a replacement.  Anything but Toshiba, I'm sorry to say :-(

  • Another JTable/buttons in cells query - event forwarding

    Hi Everyone.
Apologies in advance for yet another thread on this subject. I realise this has been discussed a number of times but I can't find what seems like a definitive solution.
I understand what the fundamental issue is with putting JComponents in table cells - i.e. that the cells are rendered essentially as static visual entities, that they're not "components" as such and will not receive events.
I'd like to implement JButtons in table cells so that they behave as "normally" as possible - i.e. handle their own roll-over appearance, handle their own pressed appearance, and fire action events when pressed, with as little manual intervention in these mechanisms (e.g. in mouse listener code) as possible. I'm trying to do this by forwarding mouse events from the table to the button, but this doesn't seem to work as I'd hoped and I have various questions...
(Background: I have implemented JButton objects in the data model, and the getTableCellRendererComponent() method returns *(JButton)value*.)
My first question concerns the interception of mouse events. The usual technique would be to add a mouse listener and/or mouse motion listener to the table, and implement mouseClicked(), mousePressed() etc. However, can I override the table's processMouseEvent() and processMouseMotionEvent() methods instead, and from here forward events to buttons where appropriate, or process normally with super.processMouseEvent()? My motivation for doing this would be specifically not to invoke the super methods where events were forwarded to buttons - effectively consuming the event. Is this correct technique?
My second question concerns attempts to reproduce button roll-over appearances. The JTable is of course considered a single entity as far as mouse events are concerned, and MOUSE_ENTERED and MOUSE_EXITED events aren't generated as the pointer moves from cell to cell. Merely forwarding mouse events to buttons - which will mostly be MOUSE_MOVED events - seems to be insufficient and presumably the roll-over appearance change relies upon ENTERED and EXITED events occurring at the proper times.
I mimicked this behaviour in my override of processMouseMotionEvent() by calculating the value (i.e. JButton reference) of the cell under the mouse pointer, and if it wasn't the same as for the previous event, manually creating a MOUSE_ENTERED event and forwarding it to the new button. This seemed to work - the rollovers were happening (provided a table repaint() was performed), but it seemed to work without needing to explicitly sending a MOUSE_EXITED to the previous button before sending MOUSE_ENTERED to the new. I'm unclear why this is so - I was half-expecting both buttons to acquire the roll-over state, and they didn't.
Also, I had assumed that having taken care of this, I should forward MOUSE_MOVED events occurring within the confines of a cell's area to the button verbatim, but this seems to instantly cancel out any roll-over (visually the button would briefly flash a roll-over appearance as the pointer moved into its cell bounds). Why might this be so?
My last question is about the actual pressing of the button. I had hoped that forwarding MOUSE_CLICKED, MOUSE_PRESSED and MOUSE_RELEASED would cause the button to (a) acquire the button-pressed state, and (b) fire an action event to its action listeners. Neither of these things occur, and I don't understand why not.
In summary, is interception and forwarding of events like this a viable technique for implementing table cell buttons? The various solutions that a Google trawl throws up all reproduce button-pressing mechanics in varying degrees, some just detecting a click and calling some user function, others manually manipulating the button model in the mouse handler etc. If possible I'd like to avoid this, and leave as much processing as possible to the button's native code.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions received.
    Regards,
    A.
