Your System is Out of Memory - Citrix platform & Primavera P6 ver. 7.0 SP1

We are having this issue with multiple project files with over 65000 activities, and when we try to calculate (F9) all of them together, we receive a message which says:
"Your system is out of memory, Please close other running applications and try this operation again".
This happens in the middle of calculation. First we want to make sure that our files are not corrupted due to this message.
We tried a workaround and reduced the number of activities in a single project file by breaking it down to more project files, and oppened all of them together to do do calculation, but still we have the same error message.
Our P6 database is Oracle and we connect remotely via Citrix 12.0.0.6410.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Each of our Citrix machines (we have 4 at the moment), have 4GB RAM allocated per user (64GB total for 15 users per server).
I should add that we had the same problem with P6 V7 prior to SP1. Also, the problem is not Database specific, schmaster's is Oracle, ours is MSSQL.
It really shouldn't cause a problem and would appear to be Citrix or Network dependant as I run P6 V7 SP1 on a standalone machine as well, and with exactly the same programmes (although with only 2GB RAM), it runs perfectly.
Also, through Citrix, it reports a much higher memory usage figure. After loading my 37 Programmes, it reports that it has used close to 3GB (very close to the theoretical limit for a 32 bit app) of the Physical RAM and 2GB of Virtual. On the standalone machine it is about half this.

  • Your system run out of application memory

    your system run out of application memory i get this message pop up and everything freezes

    There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
              A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
              Not enough memory for your usage pattern
    Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
    These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
    When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
              View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
    If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
    The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
    Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
    "Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
    If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
    The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
    sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
    where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the  leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Error message "Your system is low on memory"

    I just installed Dreamweaver 8.0.2 and I occasionly the error
    message "Your system is low on memory" appears. I only use
    Dreamweaver for editing php and simple htm files. I have 2 gig of
    RAM and Windows Task Manager says I have 1 gig free. This question
    has been asked twice before in this forum over the past 2 years and
    there has been no work around given. I have XP service pack 2 and
    it has automatic updates turned on. Any suggestions?

    Windows used to not do well with a lot of RAM, but I haven't

  • System running out of memory

    I have deployed a Windows Embedded Standard 7 on a x64 machine. My answer file includes the File Based Write Filter and my system has 8GB RAM installed. I have excluded some working folders for a specific software and other than that no big change would
    happen in the system. I have set the overlay size of FBWF to be 1GB.
    Now my problem is that after the system works for some time, the amount of free memory starts to decline and after around 7-8 hours the available memory reaches a critical amount and the system is unusable and I have to reset the system manually. I have
    increased the size of the overlay to 2GB but this happens again.
     Is it possible that this problem is due to FBWF? If I set the overlay size to be 2GB the system should not touch any more than that 2GB so I would never run out of memory with 8GB installed RAM. am I right?

    Would you please take a look at my situation and give me a possible diagnosis:
    1- I have "File Based Write Filter" on Windows Embedded Standard 7 x64 SP1.
    2- The installed RAM is 8GB and size of overlay of FBWF is set to 2GB.
    3- When the system is giving the critical memory message the conditions are as follows:
    a) The consumed memory in task manager is somewhere around 4 to 4.5 GB out of 8GB
    b) A process schedule.exe (from our software) is running more than a hundred time and is consuming
    memory,
    but its .exe file is located inside an unprotected folder.
    c) executing fbwfmgr.exe /overlaydetail is reporting that only 135MB of overlay volume is full!
    Memory consumed by directory structure: 35.6 MB
    Memory consumed by file data: 135 MB
    d) The CPU usage is normal
    I don't know what exactly is full? Memory has free space, FBWF overlay volume has free space, then which memory is full?
    p.s.: I checked my answer file and paging file is disabled as required.

  • Elements 9.0 -System running out of memory (RAM) during panorama edge filling

    I have a system with 6GB memory, running Win7 64 bit. When I choose the option "fill in the edges" after the panorama is created Photoshop elements 9.0 complains that there is not enough memory. This happened 8 times out of 10. Any idea why this happening. There is nothing else running in the background.

    Hi All
    I've read all the responses, and tried to reduce file size, and up the RAM usage in 9, but still no luck with the fill?  I'm not sure how much RAM people are talking about here - I've got 6MB which I kinda expect may be the first part of the issue, but would love some comment please.

  • Cannot Upload Resources to P6 v7 - System out of Memory

    Hello,
    When I import resource assignments to P6 v7, I get an the following error message:
    "Your system is out of memory. Please close other running applications and try this operation again."
    I also noticed that the PM.exe file in Task Manager was consuming a huge amount of system memory, over 1 GB.
    After this error message, when I go back to my P6 schedule, I find that several activity durations have been zeroed out. I've never experienced this with earlier versions of P6. Has anyone encountered any of this before?
    Here's some more info about the schedule - It has 8600 activities, and 7000+ resource assignments.
    Thanks for your help!

    Jason,
    Thanks for your reply. I would have thought that 2GB of memory would me more than sufficient. Would increasing the memory to say 3GB or 4GB help? Incidentally, I did break down the spreadsheet into 7 "chunks" of about 1000 entries, and was able to successfully import the spreadsheet that way.
    Also what do you mean by API?
    Thanks again!It certainly won't hurt, but I doubt that 3/4gb even is going to allow you to import that many assignments in one shot with the method you are using; since P6 is a 32bit application, it cannot address that much memory.
    The api is the programmers interface. It would require knowledge of Java programming, however, if you are going to be doing this sort of thing a lot, it would pay for itself many times over in speed, ease of use, and avoiding any potential issues.

    It sounds like you may have a corrupt render file in your 7th episode.  You can set in and out points in 5 minute increments and export those segments to narrow down which clip is the offending clip. Then re-render the offending clip.
    I hope this helps.

  • Decompressing LZMA .zip files always gives "System out of Memory" on AIR.

    AIR is supposed to support LZMA compression in addition to Deflate, but it has an error every time I try to use it. ZIPs using the Deflate method decompress just fine.
    aByteArray.uncompress("lzma");
    Should decompress the LZMA compressed data, but always just has a #1000 System is Out of Memory error.
    I have tried skipping the standard header in the zip that should be 2 bytes version info, extra properties length (n) and a filed of the length of n;
    Even when I do that, the same thing happens. I have tried deducting the LZMA header length from the general compressed data size in the ZIP header as well and that makes no difference. I am also above AIR 3.3 so that should not be the issue. I also tried setting a small 'library size' when compressing. LZMA is supposed to be "suited for embedded applications" so mobile devices should surly be able to handle it.
    The header with the 13 byte header i believe is only for certain stand alone LZMA formats, so that should not apply.
    What am I doing wrong? How do I make it work?

    No. I try and avoid cluttering my apps with extra libraries if at all possible. It may have a sizeable footprint when I only need a few things, and it might contain encryption stuff if it supports the whole zip specification, which makes your app banned from export to some countries apparently.
    I already have my app doing what I need it to do with the most common deflate method, but it simply would be a shame to not have LZMA support when it is built right into AIR. I would like to know what I'm doing wrong when I call uncompress with "lzma".

    Hello,
    First upgrade your SQL Server to SP2 ASAP.
    This cannot be necessarily a issue.If you see this message few times in errorlog you can ignore it.If this message comes very frequently it can be issue.But in your case since you got OOM error .Its seems CLR hit VAS limitation.
    Now First thing I would ask are you using CLR .You can check CLR enabled value in sp_configure.In 32 bit system CLR takes memory otside form buffer pool and since VAS region is limited to 2 G( unless you use /3 G switch) this can cause issue.
    Permanent solution to this is migrating your server to 64 bit to make VAS 8 TB.Temporary solution would be to look at queries fetching data sets using CLR.Datasets utilizes heavy memory.
    Unfortunately I have not worked on CLR.

    Hi Mark
    Aplogies for not responding to your earlier post on Debugging Rowset. I am still working on that. I am sure I can give you something todday if there is any straight solution.
    OK coming to the OutOfMemoryExceptions, yes this has been observed because of preview feature added in Updaet 5. Look @ http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=123&threadID=50422 for more details.

  • Server goes out of memory when annotating TIFF File. Help with Tiled Images

    I am new to JAI and have a problem with the system going out of memory
    Objective:
    1)Load up a TIFF file (each approx 5- 8 MB when compressed with CCITT.6 compression)
    2)Annotate image (consider it as a simple drawString with the Graphics2D object of the RenderedImage)
    3)Send it to the servlet outputStream
    Problem:
    Server goes out of memory when 5 threads try to access it concurrently
    Runtime conditions:
    VM param set to -Xmx1024m
    Observation
    Writing the files takes a lot of time when compared to reading the files
    Some more information
    1)I need to do the annotating at a pre-defined specific positions on the images(ex: in the first quadrant, or may be in the second quadrant).
    2)I know that using the TiledImage class its possible to load up a portion of the image and process it.
    Things I need help with:
    I do not know how to send the whole file back to servlet output stream after annotating a tile of the image.
    If write the tiled image back to a file, or to the outputstream, it gives me only the portion of the tile I read in and watermarked, not the whole image file

    I guess oracle set SGA automaticlly while i choose default installion , but ,why SGA would be so big? Is oracle not smart enough ?Default database configuration is going to reserve 40% of physical memory for SGA for an instance, which you as a user can always change. I don't see anything wrong with that to say Oracle is not smart.
    If i don't disincrease SGA, but increase max-shm-memory, would it work?This needs support from the CPU architecture (32 bit or 64 bit) and the kernel as well. Read more about the huge pages.

    Here is the output that we have... one thing to note that the exception implies that the container does not exists (although it does)... it is falling into a sub-routine for:
    myManager.existsContainer(containerName) == 0
    The exception is thrown (it seems) because of the "Logging region..." error...
    We had normal operation untill the loggin system ran out of memory... (I am using a shared Environment and am amanaging shared open Containers)...
    btw - Is there not a good end-to-end Java example that is available?

  • Database out of memory error getting Web Intelligence prompts

    The following code generates an exception for a particular web intelligence report object ID:
    m_engines = (ReportEngines)m_entSession.getService("ReportEngines");
    m_widocRepEngine = (ReportEngine)m_engines.getService(ReportEngines.ReportEngineType.WI_REPORT_ENGINE);
    DocumentInstance doc = m_widocRepEngine.openDocument(id);
    Prompts prompts = doc.getPrompts();
    The exception is as follows:
    A database error occurred. The database error text is: The system is out of memory. Use system side cursors for large result sets: Java heap space. Result set size: 31,207, 651. JVM total memory size: 66,650,112..(WIS 10901).
    I can't understand how the result set could be over 31 million, or how to fix this. Any ideas?

    So what happens in InfoView?
    I ask since it doesn't appear to be a SDK coding issue.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

    > We are getting an error (about the error - system say out of memory) and when we referred to the messages in the SAP BPC forum, few have provided solution asking to shrink the log file size.

    This is for Microsoft SQL Server, not for Oracle.
    If you get "out of memory" it's not a database logfile problem but a memory problem.
    > Exact Error message - out of memory (Pop-up screen - no other information available)
    When is this happening?
