Zero quantity in BOM

Hi,
I been through many thread for BOM component quantity zero, but i need suggestion for my specific case.
some stock materials they treat as consumables (those have high price items used in shop floor)so they want category as consumables in BOM and want to enter specific material number with zero quantity.
i can create "C" category by avoiding back flush option for them but how can we give zero as quantity.
Any suggestions specific to consumables in BOM?
Thanks in advance.

SAP has been very backward in not recognizing the need for quantity zero in the BOM.  Every other system I have been exposed to over a 30+ year career in Materials Management allows this capability.  Oracle allows it.  Baan allows it.  APICS classes speak of the need for it.  Only SAP seems to not "feel the need".  I think this is because somebody at SAP 30 years ago said that because you can't divide by zero, we (the programmers) can't figure out how to calculate certain things.  Well in 30 years, I figure they could have written the code necessary to ignore calculations for costing and other things whenever you bump into quantity zero.  What, maybe ten lines of code would cover that?
Reasons Why You Need Qty 0 in BOMs
1.  A/R Materials (As Required):  Lubricants or Adhesives required to build a product are not rationed out by the drop, or by the bottle, but left to the assembler to determine the appropriate quantity based on SOE instructions.  On the drawings, Engineers will call out A/R (as required) in the qty box.
2.  Variable qty items:  Shims or trimmer balance weights are issued as one each, but cannot be determined until the assembly of the product occurs.  As appropriate, differing quantities are issued to the product to fit the need for the specific machine being built.
3.  REF Materials.  Quite often, assembly drawings will need to show the mating interface with other parts of the machine which are not actually part of the assembly.  In this case, we would show the interface as u201CREFu201D on one assembly, but as quantity u201C1u201D on another assembly.
4.  Tooling:  Tooling needs to be tracked and linked to the assemblies that it is used on.  But it does not get consumed on a one-for-one basis with the assembly.  So we want to use SAP where-used capability by linking each tool within each BOM where it is relevant, but show the quantity as u201C0u201D.  On the drawing tooling is called out as REF.
5.  Must Choose Optional Choices:  On u201Cassemble-to-orderu201D products, one of several different choices may be needed for various parts of the machine configuration.  These u201Cmust chooseu201D options are items where the machine will not be functional without one of the available choices (such as three choices of tires on a car.  The way these options are handled on the drawings is by showing them with Alpha characters in the quantity field where you u201Cmust chooseu201D one of the u201CAu201D items, one of the u201CBu201D items, and one of the u201CCu201D items to have a fully configured, workable machine.  On the BOMs, we call out all the choices as qty 0, with a note to refer to the customer sales order for which choice has been made.
6.  May Choose Optional Choices:   On u201Cassemble-to-orderu201D products, in the case where an option is a u201Cmay chooseu201D option you may either order or the option or not; the machine will operate fine either way.  In this case the option would show on the drawing with an u201C*u201D in the quantity field and on the SAP BOM, you would call out quantity u201C0u201D with a note to refer to the customer sales order for which choice has been made.
7.  Acceptable Substitute Items:  In some cases two interchangeable part numbers may be acceptable to use in the product.  For example, two manufacturers make RF drivers that are fully compatible and work fine in our machine.  But Field Service required the use of two distinct part numbers for reliability tracking, so the drawings allow for either part A or part B to be used.  Depending on the current cost/reliability/availability of the two parts, we will designate one item as quantity u201C1u201D in the SAP BOM and the other item as quantity u201C0u201D.  On the drawing, you call out one item as quantity u201C1u201D and the other as quantity u201C*u201D with a note explaining the ability to substitute one item for the other as desired.
8.  JIT KIT support:  In order to efficiently procure and build product, we may create documents that are u201Csetsu201D of material that can be procured on a single PO.  So we end up with one set of drawings depicting way the machine is built and resides in the field for the next X years, and another group of drawings defining sets of material in special packaging aiding in efficient build of the product.  On both groups of drawings the quantity would be u201C1u201D (or whatever qty is needed on the machine) but in the SAP BOMs, only the JITKIT BOM would have a quantity >0.  The manufacturing BOMs would call out the u201Csetu201D as qty 1 but all the individual pieces of the set would be called out as qty u201C0u201D.  In that way when you look at the where-use of a component in one of the sets, you would be able to determine what assembly drawings the item appears on, and also which drawing is the u201Cactiveu201D driver of the material.
9.  Request to move certain items to later in the build process:  Assembly drawings usually show the assembly in the finished state, as the assembly will look out in the field being used by the customer.  But internally in the factory we often desire the assembly to be built to an unfinished level with some pieces missing to allow for easier testing of the full product.  Or we may choose not to put the final cosmetic touches on a machine until close to the shipping point in order to avoid scratching or denting of exterior surfaces.  For example, a modulator assembly will be built with recyclable in-house panels and only have the finished panels swapped out for the recyclable tooling panels at the clean, pack, and ship operation.  Other assemblies will have access panels omitted altogether to allow for easy access for machine tuning in final test.  These missing panels would be added at clean, pack, and ship.  So in the SAP BOMs, we change the quantity from u201C1u201D to u201C0u201D in the assembly BOM, and create separate BOMs showing quantity u201C1u201D with the clean, pack, and ship items that complete the assembly built days or weeks earlier.

    Hello,
As per my understanding your requirement is -
you want to enter the Bom component but the PR should not be generated for the same and the component should not be planned.
You can choose the item category as Text item.
With this you will able to put your item in BOM and planning also wiil not  happen.

  • Decimal quantity in BOM

    Dear Gurus,
Need Urgent help. We want to use decimal quantity in BOM componenets. If base unit of measurement PC is used then system not allowing to use but if PCS is used then system allows to use decimal quantity. Please let us know other repurcussions of using decimal quantity in BOM. We are having following concerns while using PC
    1. Practically issuing material in decimal to production order is not possible.
    2. if system round off the quantity then there will be variance in planned cost & actual cost
What could be the effect in other modules if PCS is used.
    Regards,
    SAP CONS

In SAP R/3 all quantity fields use the domain MENG13 so even though your unit PC is not allowing any decimals it is still storing the values with 3 decimal places. If you do not mention any value in decimal rounding in transaction code CUNI (Table T006-ANDEC) it will take the rounding value as 0 decimal places. If you do not mention any value in Decimal places CUNI (T006-DECAN) it will display zero decimals. BUT internally it storing it as 1.000. In the BOM you will just see it as 1
So as per knowledge it should not affect anything. You  can go ahead and change the PC in CUNI and set both values "Decimal places" and "Decimal pl. rounding" to 3.

  • Regarding zero qty in BOM

Sap does not seem to have the ability to have a zero quantity on a
BOM. We have several top level part numbers that have a zero qty on
the SL part numbers (which is CD we burn), but SAP puts a
requirement on the work order. We currently have to look up the BOM
in Verticent to see if the SL is needed and - if not- delete the SL
    from the work order.
Also, we have several In-House labels made. These are on the BOM so
the operator does make them and apply them. These do not have a cost
with them, because we make them. So then what happens with the zero
cost on the label, the work order will not release unless you delete
    that label from the bom.

<b>This really hurts.... would the moderators have some control on creation of id's? I would suggest to make mail id as a mandatory field and have this field checked in the database to avoid duplicates. • Goods receipt with Zero Quantity from Purchase Order

    Dear Expert,
Is this a policy or something in SAP system?
Why I can MIGO with Zero Qty from Purchase order that still open quantity?
    Best regards,
    Dedy

    Dear all,
Thanks a lot for all replies.
    Dear Thiru,
First thing, all system message i have set error, M7 061 Document does not contain any items
M7 264 Qty and / or "delivery completed" ind. or final issue ind. are missing.
    Scenario :
PO not yet tick delivery completed (open quantity), when we doing MIGO w/ zero qty and set delivery completed indicator to --> 2 Set, a document GR is posted w/ zero quantity.
Also when PO already tick delivery completed, but when MIGO and set delivery completed indicator to --> 3 Do not set, a document GR is posted w/ zero quantity.
Is this a way that SAP provide to tick delivery completed after PO final release w/ status not changeable so we do not need to cancel release or something like a bug/backdoor?
    Best regards,

  • Zero Quantity, Negative Stock Value in Inventory Audit Report

    Hi all,
The Cumulative Quantity of an item has become zero but the Cumulative Value in the Inventory Audit Report displayed as -150. How to adjust it to make it zero?
    Kindly advise, thanks.
    Regards,
    Xavier

    HI Xavier,
Mentioned below is teh detail from the note mentioned by J
    Symptom
In the Stock Audit Report, generated for a specific warehouse, a value is shown in the 'Cumulative Value' column even if the item does not have quantity.
    Cause
    Consulting
    Solution
The 'Manage Item Cost per Warehouse' setting in the Administration -> System Initialisation -> Company Details -> Basic Initialisation tab determines the information displayed in the Stock Audit Report.
'Manage Item Cost per Warehouse' is selected.
If this option is selected, each warehouse defined in SAP Business One maintains its own cost. This warehouse cost is calculated whenever there is a movement of the item in the specific warehouse.
When stocks are issued, the item cost will be from the specific warehouse where the stocks are issued.
The Stock Audit Report should be viewed per warehouse in order to determine the accurate valuation of the item. The option 'Group by Warehouse' can be used for this purpose.
'Manage Item Cost per Warehouse' is NOT selected.
If this option is not selected, a single cost is maintained for the item per company. This cost is determined by the movement of the item within all warehouses.
When stocks are issued, the single item cost determined on the company level will be used.
When the item cost is calculated per company, a stock value may remain in a warehouse which has zero quantity. However, since the cost is managed across all warehouses this is ok, as long as there is an overall positive quantity.
If the valuation of the item is required, the Stock Audit Report should be run for all warehouses and not for a specific warehouse. If the report is viewed per warehouse it may not provide an accurate cumulative value of the stock.
If only the quantity in a specific warehouse needs to be checked then the report can be run per warehouse.
    Example:
    1. Create new item with standard price 10 in all warehouses, since price is managed per company and not per warehouse.
    2. Create goods receipt for this item to two warehouses - quantity 10 to warehouse 01 and quantity 10 to warehouse 02.
    3. Create material revaluation, select warehouse 01 (only one warehouse can be selected for posting purposes), and change the price from 10 to 5.
    4. Create goods issue from warehouse 02 with issued quantity 10.
    5. Run the audit report for this item and:
    a) for all warehouses -> cumulative quantity is 10, cumulative value is 50;
    b) for warehouse 01 -> cumulative quantity is 10, cumulative value is 0;
    c) for warehouse 02 -> cumulative quantity is 0, cumulative value is 50.

  • Materials with Zero Quantity in Stock

    Hi Experts,
I am preparing a Customized Stock Summary Report.
    I have two queries.
    1. How do i find Materials with Zero quantity in Stock????
Is searching for MATNR based on MENGE value 'SPACE' correct way to go about it?
    2. How do i find number of same materials in the same plant ?????
Points will be awarded for the helpful answers.
    Cheers
    Gaurav Raghav

    Hi Vineet,
    Thanks for the quick solution.
    I got point 1.
Just confirm whether i understood it correctly.
If a search for MATNR based on Field LBAST i.e Valuated unrestricted-use stock in table MARD, i will get all materials with Quantity Zero.
    Have i understood correctly????
I guess i was not clear with my second point.
    let me try once more.
My selection criteria is based on Plant.
Therefore i guess same materials under PS & JS are redundant.
So i want to display SKU excluding all Deleted Materials.
How do i go about it???
I have already coded to select deleted materials.
    Cheers

    Item Description
    Item Number

Any help with a query of this nature would be appreciated.

    and mmt.transaction_quantity !=0 )
    group by msi.segment1,msi.organization_id,moq.subinventory_code
    having sum(nvl(transaction_quantity,0)) = 0
Check the explain plan and cost before running the query
The exists clause restricts the records only to those items that had some transactions

  • Fixed quantity in BOM item

    Hi,
    Plz suggest me,
we are having conductor div.n we req Drum to wind a wire coductor these drums having size of std lagging for dispatch but length is varied in coductor for winding.when i wan to fixed the quntity of lagging for perticular drum i used key fixed quntiy but at time conversion from pln order to prod order, system takes only fixed quantity for 10 drums also e.g.1 drum =65 lags & for 10 drum=65 lags after fixed key used.
But my reqmt is that when i will make prod order at that time the system varies the lagging nos. with propertion to lenth of conductor & that shuld not happen lagging nos. shoul be fixed. So plz tell me the procedure for this thing
    thank u
    Regards-
    jagdish

    Hi jagdish
Fixed quantity in BOM means. Always it will create proposal for that particulare quantity only irrespective of the order quantity
For ex if you say for MAT A in BOM the quantity is 1 No and if you tick fixed quantity indicator. The system will always create proposal for 1 No irrespective of the BOM header quantity.
This will be useful to create fixed quantity for a order for inspection or other purpose.
If you want MRP to be exploded as per the BOM header quantity. Use alternate unit of purchase.
    Hope this is clear

  • Billing for zero quantity is being allowed

    Hi,
We have written a new copy control routine for data transfer VBRK/VBRP from Sales Documents to Billing Documents. This routine is for partial billing. When the partially billed quantity becomes zero, the transaction vf01 still allows the billing. But we should not allow billing for zero quantity.
In the copy requirements routine, it does gives out error message if the quantity is zero. But this copy requirements routine is being called prior to our data transfer routine. So if the quantity becomes zero in our partial billing routine, the transaction vf01 is not giving any error message and it is allowing the billing for zero quantity.
Could anyone please let me know how can I solve this problem or what are the ways to solve this problem?
    Thanks..
    Priya.

    Hi Naren,
The checking part is already there in the standard copying requirements routine, which we are using. There can be many scenarios when the quantity will  be more than zero when the copying requirements routine is called and it can become zero only in our data transfer routine logic. The copying requirement routine is being called prior to the data transfer routine, so in the above case, the copying req routine will not add the error message since the qty is more than zero, but it will become zero in our data transfer routine. So the invoice will be created for zero quantity also. Please let me know if there is any other ways to achieve this..
    Thanks again..
    Priya.
