Zoom Search + Highlight, Exclude Bookmarks

Hi,
I've used Zoom Search for about 2 years with few Homesite HTML projects and am now incorporating Zoom Search into a Robohelp project. So far, so good.
I've followed Peter's suggestions, tweaked for my needs. Again, so far, so goo.   I added the highlighting option (jump to match and highlight search words).  It works as expected, but I'm having an issue that it's highlighting bookmarks, when the search terms matches a word in the bookmark.  This isn't ideal, and it causes a big issue when the matched search word is in the bookmark and at the bottom of the page.  The "jump" in this case stops at the top of the page because the bookmark is the first occurrence of the word.  Technically, this is correct, but from a user's perspective, it's not so great.
To exclude portions of the page from being indexed by Zoom one uses the <!--ZOOMSTOP--> and <!--ZOOMRESTART--> tags, which works as expected with RoboHelp.  My issue is that the bookmark code does not appear in the html file, so I can't even exclude it.  Any suggestions?
I was going to post this in Zoom's forum, but I have a feeling they'll tell me to ck in with Robohelp.
thanks in advance........

Is there a way to edit the original post?
I run the Zoom indexer on the published files.
I looked at the published .htm file and I  found something, I think, related to breadcrumbs, but I have no idea how I could configure Zoom to skip it, other than add the ZOOMSTOP/RESTART comments to this file....which will be an impossible task given the # of files and the time required.
here are the lines in my published .htm file:
<!--
if (window.gbWhTopic)
var strUrl = document.location.href;
var bc = 0;
var n = strUrl.toLowerCase().indexOf("bc-");
if(n != -1)
  document.location.href = strUrl.substring(0, n);
  bc = strUrl.substring(n+3);
if (window.addTocInfo)
addTocInfo("Configuration [user]\nAttribute Mapping");
addButton("show",BTN_TEXT,"Show","","","","",0,0,"","","");
if (window.writeBtnStyle)
  writeBtnStyle();
if (window.writeIntopicBar)
  writeIntopicBar(1);
document.write("<p style=\"text-align:right\"> ");
AddMasterBreadcrumbs("../ugtest_zoom.htm", "", "|", "Home", "../frontpages/home.htm");
document.write("<a href=\"attrmap.htm\">Configuration [user]<\/a> | Attribute Mapping <\/p>");
if (window.setRelStartPage)
setRelStartPage("../ugtest_zoom.htm");
  autoSync(1);
  sendSyncInfo();
  sendAveInfoOut();
else
if (window.gbIE4)
  document.location.reload();

  • On a website clicking on highlighted text in blue, the browser should take you to info on that subject. My Firefox opens a blank page and says "search history and bookmarks." How can I make it go to the info highlighted in blue text? Ver 3.6.15

    Usually the browser will take the user to info pages when a click on blue text is done. My browser just opens a blank page and has "search history and bookmarks and then just sits there. I can change that so it will do nothing and the message is "type a web address". It used to work fine. How can I fix this.

  • Highlight the bookmarked text when clicking bookmark link?

    I have severeal bookmarks on one page of the PDF. Is it possible to have the PDF set up so that it will highlight the bookmarked text when the bookmark link is clicked? Or something that would make it easier to find the bookmarked section of the document. I am using Acrobat 9. Thanks!

    A bookmark (go to page view type action) doesn't really link to text, it links to a page and view setting (zoom, and possibly scroll). So this isn't an option with such a link.

  • Just bought a new iPad, and my highlights and bookmarks will not sync to it through iBooks.

    Hey, I just bought the third-generation iPad. I have been reading on the iPad 2 for a year now, and have hundreds of books in my library. Because I'm such an intense reader, and value my highlights, it upset me when I bought the new iPad, synced it to iTunes, and then highlights and bookmarks were not transferred to the new iPad. The books were all out of order when they synced, and I had to rearrange them, but they were in the correct collections. This was my first hint that something was wrong. Next, when I opened my books, I could not find a single highlight in any of them. I checked all the books on my iPad 2 and they're fine as usual, everything is how I left it, including my bookmarks and highlights, and I even went into settings and made sure sync bookmarks was on on both iPads. I am completely confused and frustrated. I even put my new iPad into DFU mode and tried to re-sync everything, nothing is working. They just won't sync. Could someone please help me out, this means a lot to me. Also: is anyone noticing that the multitouch is slightly off with the new iPad? I'll go to tap dictation or drag an icon to another page, and it's just not that responsive. a few times I have clicked the dictation button but I gotten a space in instead. It seems you just have to press harder almost. Lastly, my 30 pin seems to be a little tight. I put a standard 30 pin sync cord that came with my original iPad 2 and iPhone 4 into the 30 pin and I almost had to jam it into the 30 pin slot. I work with iDevices all day long and have never had one that needed to be jammed in before. It doesn't seem good for the iPad. Yes, I am borderline about to return it, but the screen just looks so much clearer, I can't go back to my iPad 2. Wow, again I pressed the dictation button and the spacebar activated instead. If anyone can figure out this whole iBook situation so I can get my bookmarks and my highlights back, I would really appreciate it!

    I also tried manually underlining a few things on the new iPad and when highlighting a paragraph, it would skip a few lines and the line would go through a few as well. Looks like a major iBooks glitch needs to be addressed here.

  • Syncing notes, highlights, and bookmarks between iOS devices

    Hi,
    I've decided to digitize my technical library by purchasing ebooks from now on. The problem is which ebook format to go with. My ideal requirements would be to be able to purchase books from various sources and be able to read them both on my Mac and on iOS devices. Additionally, I want to be able to sync the highlights, bookmarks, and notes among all of these devices.
    Currently, the real winner that satisfy all of these conditions is Amazon mobi format. The only problem is that I can only purchase books from Amazon if you go with this platform.
    On the other hand, Apple iBooks is a close second here - the lack of a solution for a Mac is a problem, but I am hoping that Apple is working on the iBooks application for the Mac. The syncking of notes, highlights, and bookmarks among various iOS devices is a nice feature, and it does not require a tethered connection to iTunes - instead, these items they can now sync wirelessly among devices on the same iTunes account.
    My question is if the syncing of notes, highlights, and bookmarks works only with ePub books purchased from the Apple's iBooks store or if this feature works with unprotected ePub books purchased elsewhere and loaded on iOS devices via the iTunes syncing feature. For example, most of the technical books I am going to be digitizing are Cisco books published by Cisco Press. As of late, most of their ebooks are available in the unprotected ePub format, and I would be using the iBooks app to read these books. So, if I were to purchase ebooks from Cisco Press, would I be able to to make a note in a book on one iOS device (e.g. iPad), and later see this note in the same book on my iPhone?
    Thanks!

    This page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059 says (I havn't tried it though) :
    iBooks will automatically remember where you left off each time you close a book or return to your Home screen. Tap the bookmark icon in the upper-right corner to bookmark a specific page. Wirelessly sync your Bookmarks, Highlights, and Notes with your other devices using your iTunes Store account by tapping Settings > iBooks > Sync Bookmarks > ON.

  • RH9 Search highlighting color won't stick

    When you use the Search feature and select "Highlight search results" the default color is gray. The word or phrase you're searching for displays in gray in all the topics in your search results.
    From a usability standpoint, gray is a really bad color for highlighting. People are used to yellow, so if they saw that they would know what it means. Other colors would also send the correct message. But I kept getting emails from people asking me what's wrong with the online help because their screen was peppered with gray splotches.
    So I went in and changed the highlighting color in the Webhelp > Search > Search Options dialog. All was well, until the next time I compiled the project. The color choice reverted to gray. Apparently you must go in and make your color choice EVERY TIME you update a project. If Adobe had chosen any color but gray as the default, I'd just leave it.
    This is a problem because my project consists of one parent and about 20 child projects. I went in and changed the search highlighting color in all 21 projects, only to learn that the ones I'd since updated were displaying their highlights in gray. So users were getting blue highlights in some search results topics, and gray in others. It shouldn't do this.
    If there's a fix, please advise.
    Thank you!

    Hi there
    Hopefully Peter won't mind my offering another possible suggestion.
    Try creating a new Single Source Layout. Just right-click the Single Source Layouts pod and create a new layout. My thought here is that perhaps the file holding the recipe for that layout may have somehow become a bit corrupt and creating a new SSL recipe may make things finally "stick".

  • Weird characters in search highlight

    I tried using Calvin Ly's search highlight technique. It
    works fine for a while and then mu users get weird little square
    characters displaying in bulleted lists in their browsers. Has
    anyone else experienced this problem? Know of a fix? If I do not
    use the search highlight (just plain search) I don't have this
    problem.
    RH HTML X5
    Thanks in advance.

    As a matter of fact, I ran into this sitation yesterday (a
    tiny square box above all list items).
    I did the only thing that occurred to me: I deleted six image
    map hyperlinks on a workflow graphic, and then re-created them.
    All fixed! I have no idea if this'll help you or not.
    Good luck,

  • WebHelp Search Highlighting Revisited (RH7)

    I like RH7's built-in search highlighting feature,
    particularly after applying Adobe's update to 7.02.001 (see P.
    Grainge's item 32 under Using RoboHelp 7, the fix/replacement for
    whtopic.js). However, I swear that my current project is behaving
    differently from my initial trial using RH7 demo (with the fix,
    using IE v6). Perhaps I hadn't noticed it before,
    but the entire phrase or sentence or paragraph (this varies)
    containing each found and highlighted
    word
    is displayed bolded!
    Was this intended? Has anyone else noticed this? Did I
    unknowingly toggle some setting or corrupt a style? It's quite
    distracting and my customer doesn't like it. I did verify that the
    whtopic.js file in the generated WebHelp files collection does
    contain the fix.
    I thought it might be related to whether the found word (or
    any other in the surrounding original text) was bolded, but this
    happens in paragraphs even where I have not used any bolding. I'm
    puzzled -- or is this a "feature"?
    Thanks as always to this helpful and responsive community!
    Steve Peterson

    Aha! Persistence pays off. I found and removed "font-weight:
    bold;"
    and "font-style: normal" from the definition of style "span"
    in my master style sheet, leaving "span"'s definition empty. RH7's
    Format / Styles editor window now shows "span + " as the definition
    of "span" under Character.
    The highlighting feature now works as it should, simply
    highlighting the found item(s) as formatted. Starting to get the
    hang of Styles, I guess...
    Cheers!

  • Error 'this.node.parentNode is null or not an object' with search highlight in certain topics

    goto
    http://www.afas.nl/profithelp/2_8_2/SE/index.htm
    Click 'zoeken' (search)
    Be sure that 'Zoekresultaten markeren' (search highlight) is
    checked
    Type 'activa'
    Click the topic 'activa'
    An error is displayed in the bottom left corner:
    'this.node.parentNode is null or not an object'
    If search highlight is not used, the error is not displayed.
    Any ideas?

    I think I have it, but it's almost unbelieveable.
    In the activa topic, the word is highlighted up to a point.
    Coming to the next instance of activa, you have this code:
    <li class=p-BulletedList><p
    class=BulletedList><b><span style="font-weight:
    normal;">V:</b> v</span>aste activa waarop wordt
    afgeschreven (Dit is de standaard waarde) . . . </p>
    Note the superfluous <b> and </b> tags,
    especially with the <span> calling for normal font-weight.
    Suppose this is a valid string. Because the opening tags are
    <b><span . . .>,
    the closing sequence should be
    </span>...</b>
    I'm not sure exactly why the error does what it does.
    Perhaps this is a simple html error that happens to come in
    an awkward place, or
    Because the browser expects </span> first, it treats
    </b> as text, so the <b> never gets closed, which
    confuses the search highlight script.
    I've run into something like this before. Repeated
    application, changes and deletion of font attributes in
    approximately the same place sometimes results in confused tags.
    Similarly, when you apply a build tag to styled text, and perhaps
    change the font attribute, opening and closing tags get confused.
    It may depend on the precise locations where you started and ended
    your highlights during editing.
    You'd expect this to be a harmless html error, but in this
    case, it breaks the highlight code, I believe.
    You're in a better position to test this than I am, so I
    await your results.

    Salut!
    The scenario is "Find bookmark existed before and recall which bookmarkfolder it is in"
    Please note the "folder" is for "bookmarks", NOT a file folder of HDD-filesystem
    1) I pressed Menu\Bookmarks\ShowAllBookmarks to open bookmarks organizer.
    2) I pressed Ctrl-F to search for some bookmark(s) (e.g. newspaper domain) and found some.
    NOW The qustion is "Which folder this/these bookmark(s) are actually located in"?

    Hey, guys. Thanks for responding. I really didn't know I was so clueless about this stuff.
    I really thought "urxvt" could be used as an alias or, what we called in Debian, an alternative, to the rxvt-unicode-256color command. I guess not? I'm still trying to set up "vi" to be Vim as well, and I'll read more of the Wiki to figure that stuff out with Arch.
    So in the tty interface I can start zsh again just fine. That's old news. I removed the TERM setting and placed the resource in my .Xresources that derhamster said. Thanks.
    I also replaced the line in my Openbox rc.xml and menu.xml for terminal opening commands (can I use $TERM for those?)
    Now when I start Xorg (with Openbox running) I tried both urxvt-unicode-256color and urxvt but none of them work with Openbox. No terminal emulator pops up and no errors show that I can see.

  • Zoom Search and dropped meta tag

    I'm using the Zoom Search engine with my Web help and I like
    it very much. I'm now trying to use Zoom's category feature. I
    can't base the categories on the url, so I'm using the zoom meta
    tag instead. However, when I go to publish the Web help, RoboHelp
    seems to have a bad habit of dropping the Zoom meta tag, thus
    rendering my categories useless.
    I can always go back into the individual .html files
    afterwards and re-add the Zoom meta tags, but this is kind of a
    tedious process. So I was curious if anyone out there found a way
    to stop RoboHelp from dropping my Zoom meta tags or at least found
    a simpler, less-time-consuming work around?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Moranis
    In addition to what Leon offered up, I've noticed that
    RoboHelp was eating (dropping) one of my own favorite meta tags
    that I use quite often. My tag was one used to redirect. And I
    later discovered that if I took care to place the tag lower in the
    list of meta tags, it left it intact. So now I ensure that when I
    add it, it's the last one in the list. Since doing this, RoboHelp
    seems to leave it alone.
    Note that it may not need to actually be last, but certainly
    it was a problem if it was among the first three or four.
    Not sure if this will help in your situation, but it may be
    worth looking at.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Search Highlight Error

    I am using Calvin Ly's method for highighting search using
    RoboHelpHTML X5. Everything works well until I get to the topic.
    Yes, the search words highlight but Help freezes as I get a
    Microsoft Internet Explorer error message. The IE error message is:
    Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site
    http:/xprodapp1:9999/ptsmrhelp/PTSMR_ICMS.html
    Note: PTSMR_ICMS.html is the home page.
    Thank You!

    1)Thanks for your reply Peter. I answered your questions in
    << parens>> within your answer below.
    2)If I cannot resolve the problem, would removing the js file
    allow Help to work (I know I won't get the search highlight).
    Nothing to do with the script. Open the js file in a text
    editor to see what it contains.<<Nothing that I see but I'll
    look it over some more in case I missed something>> I've not
    seen any problems like this reported regarding the use of this
    script. Have you followed the instructions from my
    site?<<Yes>
    I notice you have an html extension. RH uses htm and I don't
    know if Calvin's script will work with html. Try it in a test
    project using just htm files. <<It did not seem to make a
    difference>>

  • Hide search highlight once in a topic?

    Hi all,
    RH version: 11.0.0.179
    SSL: Multiscreen HTML5 - Desktop screen profile only
    IE version: 9
    Is there a built-in widget/thing to add a button to a topic to hide the search highlighting? To be clear, I want the search highlight on, but I want users to be able to turn it off once they have found the topic they need. I've done a little searching in the help and online, so I suspect there isn't, but want to make sure.
    If there isn't a built-in function, does anyone know if there is a way to add my own button/javascript? I can read other's code and do a little bit of scripting, but only really basic stuff.
    Thanks for your help

    The widget does the highlighting by reading the url. You will find ?rhsearch=searchstring added to the URL. Once the highlighting is applied, you can remove it with lots of JavaScript. An easier solution may be to create a button to reload the page without the highlight option in the url. A button could do:
    document.location = location.protocol + '//' + location.host + location.pathname
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • Acrobat X highlight the bookmarked area of a pdf

    How do I make Acrobat X highlight the bookmarked area of a pdf when I select that bookmark?

    If I have 10 bookmarks on the same page, I want the text I selected when I created the bookmark (or the text that is bookmarked because it was a Heading style in Word and I chose to have the styles be bookmarks when I created the pdf) to be identified easily on the page. When I click the bookmark in the bookmark panel on the left I am moved to that page, but the specific area of the page is not identified in any visible way.
