865PE Neo2-PLS users running on Prescott 3.0Ghz and above please come in

It's showing garbage for the cpu voltage in my bios and for those who read my previous posts know what I mean as I had posted the pictures before. I have flashed with different bios ver, tested using different psu, graphics, rams but no luck. Tested using different cpu on my mobo, the voltage showing correctly but they are northwood as I can't find spare prescott to test on my mobo.
I just called intel support to RMA and told them it's problem with the processor but I can't convince them
They want me to test my cpu on another mobo to test it out first but I can't find a spare 1
Anyone experienced garbage reading for cpu voltage so far using this mobo with prescott 3.0Ghz and above? Thanks

Well sad to say I forgot to ask them at the distro center haha coz I thought the problem lies on my mobo and hoping to get 1-1 exchange but when they showed me correct reading for the voltage when they tested my mobo using other cpu, I'm lost trying to figure out what could be the problem you see...
I did mail them today asking did they test my mobo using a prescott but I guess the earliest I can get their reply is tomorrow as they are closed today. Well I might be paying them another visit and ask them to test my prescott on other mobo as well the it's far from where I'm staying
Anyway now I just want to know if any users using this 865PE Neo2 P series mobo showing garbage for cpu voltage when using prescott 3.0Ghz and above to confirm. I guess I'm the only 1 so far haha

cant get my cpu to overclock more than 3.19 when i do and save the settings it show them in the bios as a 3.2 but when i boot into windows with core center and system manager it reads the cpu as 1.6 it declocks it if thats possible
i think i need to change my multiplier is this true if so how do i do and what do i do
thanx for the help if u can

Hi - Please write your complete pc config. next time, because it is easier for people to help it they know your pc components - You can do it by login - profile - signatur
Intel cpu multiplier is not possible to change- it´s locked ( to 14 in your case )
but try changes in bios as a start...........................
The 2,8 cpu is not the best OC chip ( except the M0 stepping ) so you may only reach to about 230FSB ( 3,22 Ghz).
Bios settings, based on Kevin Keenan´s advice.
    MAT/DOT Set to OFF
    DRAM FREQUENCY = 333 ( means 5:4 ) - if you have ddr400 / 3200 mem, otherwise if you have ddr500 you can go 1:1 with auto.
    SPREAD SPECTRUM = OFF
    ADJUST CPU CLOCK = 230
AGP/PCI FREQUENCY = 66/33 or whatever is closest to that
    CPU VCORE ADJ = YES/ON
CPU VCORE = 1.525 (If unstable add voltage (1.6v safe)
DDR VOLTAGE = 2.65 (If unstable add voltage (2.8v safe)
AGP VOLTAGE = 1.5 (If unstable add voltage (1.7 safe) ATI sometimes like 1.6
Memory = SPD or Your manufacturer's memory timings
    AGP Aperture = 64MB
    Save and exit bios.
There are more too it, but I think this is the fastest and easiest way start with.

  • Can MSI 865PE Neo2-S can run the mem at ratio mode?

    Like i mean..
I going to run the CPU at 220Mhz
but keep my ram at 200Mhz
How to set that in bios?
    Thx.
    I using v1.2 bios and a P4 2.4C SL6WF Costa Rica cpu.

  • Anyone using MSI 865PE Neo2-PLS with OCZ Powerstream Psu?

Hi guys, just bought a Ocz Powerstream psu but I have a strange problem here...
The +12v and +3.3v rails seems to be mixed up. If I adjust/increase the +12v rail, the voltage for the +3.3v increased instead. If I adjust/increase +3.3v rail, the voltage for +12v increase. The +5v rail is ok and readings taken from speedfan ver 4.20. At first I thought psu is faulty... the tech guy might hooked the wrong pot to the wrong vsense line but...
When I boot into bios and adjust the rails. I got different results this time. Now it's +12v and +5v same thing like above and +3.3v is ok. This time I unplug my hdds, optical drives, addtional fans and boot into bios but still the same thing. If I got the same results in bios and windows, I would say my psu is faulty but now after seeing different results...
Anyone eccounter problems like this before? If so can kindly tell me what steps you took to fix it? Thanks and appreciated

One idea is +3.3V is derived from +12V in the power supply. ANyway, how big is the increase?
Sorry Maesus don't quite get what you mean hehe
But if you mean in numbers example like tunning the +12v rail, I didn't really turn it 180c or 360c just adjust abit till it's shown as red or yellow led light  but so far the voltages I seen is 12.58v or as low as in 11.74v.
Maybe the psu is not faulty well not 100% sure coz today after back from work, I turned on my system and went straight into the bios and try adjusting the rails. This time, the +12v and +5v are mixed up and +3.3v is ok.
I mean when I increase/decrease the +12v, the voltage went up/down for +5v and same for the other way around if I increase/decrease the +5v, the voltage went up/down for the +12v rail. I exit bios and boot into windows and try adjusting again but it's different when boot into windows. The +12v and +3.3v are mixed up instead.
This time I unplug all my devices, hdd, cdrom, floppy and additional fans and boot into bios and still the same thing. The +12v and +5v are mixed up during the tunning. I would say that if I get the same thing in bios and windows just between +12v and +3.3v rails during tunning, most likely the psu is faulty...could be the tech guy hooked the wrong pot to the wrong vsense line between these 2 rails. But now the problem is...
+3.3v and +12v are mixed up during tunning in windows
+5v and +12v are mixed up during tunning in bios
ok guys what could be the problem here? If the psu is not faulty what could it be? Mobo sensor error? Pls Help

  • MSI 865PE NEO2 LS RAID Help...

I just installed a RAID controller, MANHATTAN SATA-PCI, is there any way to test to see if both drives are EXACTLY the same w/out having to try to boot up the backup drive?
I had 1 80g Maxtor DiamonPlus 9 SATA w/ Windows XP installed.  Now I've installed the second per the instructions.  But the manual doesnt say anywhere How or when or what yada yada yada, I need to do to copy the files to duplicate the drive onto the NEW 80G Maxtor DiamonPlus 9 SATA.  OR if i need to do anything at ALL?
Can some 1 please explain to me how it works.  I know that the files are copied onto the xtra or Mirrored drive simultaneously but how do the files that were already on the ORIGINAL drive get copied?

865PE Neo2-PLS which is my board does NOT come with RAID  You have to get the 865PE Neo2-PFISR to get RAID on the chipset, hence the "R" in the model name.
I started "from scratch" as u say, in that,... I used the user manual which has installation procedures for working with an existing installation of WINXP-H.
I can see the SATA2000 Serial-ATA IDE card in my hardware manager (under SCSI RAID controllers, with NO exclamation point or anything so i know its installed correctly.
But again, i dont know how to "image" the drive, if that is what they call it.  I mean i guess i could use my maxtor software to image the drive but is that what i'm supposed to do? cause the RAID manual doesnt say that

  • MSI 865PE Neo2 motherboard drivers...

Hi, I inherited an old MSI 865PE Neo2 mobo from a friend a while ago, and recently my Gigabyte board developed some bad caps and became too unstable. So I've installed my P4 CPU and some other older components on this MSI board, but I have no driver CD.
Windows seems to have installed most of the drivers, but I'm missing the audio drivers. HWiNFO32 reports the audio adaptor as an Intel 82801EB(M) ICH5(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller / AC'97 Codec: C-Media CMI9739(A).
I don't see these drivers available on the MSI site for this older board. Any suggestions where I can get the appropriate drivers?
    Cheers!
EDIT: No worries; I found the download - C-Media CMI9739A/9761 Software Audio Drivers. Couldn't see for looking - http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=543

Try this. It worked for me in the past.....

  • Kingston ValuRAM DDR400 runs only 333Mhz in Dual Channel, why?(865PE Neo2-LS)

    Hi!
I have a problem. I've installed two DDR400 Ram moduls in my 865PE Neo2-LS motherboard and the memory runs only at 333Mhz. I cannot change the DDR clock, it always shows 333. What can i do to make my memories run at 400Mhz?
KINGSTON VALUE RAM PC3200 512MB CL 2.5 and KINGSTON VALUE RAM PC3200 512MB CL 3.0. The different CL value is the problem? According MSI my motherboard supports DDR400 Dual Channel.
    Intel P4 3.0GHZ FSB800, 865PE Neo2-LS, Kingston DDR400 2x512Mb DUAL CHANNEL, Connect3d ATI RADEON 9800Pro 128MB, Seagate HDD 20GB 7200RPM
SONY CDROM x52, SB PCI128, MACRON 400W, COOLER MASTER Aero4 Lite, WINDOWS XP Professional, cup of tea.
    Please,anybody help me!

    B.Tomas,
One more thing I forgot to mention and I am not sure if you have done it already is I did up my memory voltage to 2.7 to get it to run without any errors
As Serious states you must use a " Dual Channel" kit. I tried to run "DualChannel" with two sticks that were exactly the same specs{or so I thought} but bought at different times and I had nothing but trouble.
I did update my bios but only because I am running a Prescott I am not sure if this has anything to do with why my memory is working.

  • 865PE Neo2 north branch fan always running full speed

Core Center does not seem to work.  I have the latest version and it is quiet for first 5 minutes, then it gets louder and louder.  I have replaced the NB fan once and that seemed to help for a while, but now it is always running at full speed.  The fan goes to full speed even when no one is using the computer for 1/2 hour.
    1)  How to troubleshoot?
    2)  Are there other fan speed control programs that actually let you control the speed of the fans?

Try SpeedFan.  If your mobo's sensor chip is supported by Speedfan, you can adjust the fanspeed with it.
Another option would be to replace the NB fansink with a Zalman fanless northbridge heatsink like the NB47J...  I got a 865PE Neo2-V board and it came with a passive heatsink, so a passive heatsink might work OK for yours as long as you got good case airflow.
    Good luck.

Thanks guys for the replies.  Yes, you are right, I was hoping specifically for the 865PE-NEO2-LS board, and see no responses.  At this point, hopefully my 3.4 Northwood should be here today or tomorrow.  On this board, I just could not get past 3.1 Ghz with my 2.8, and it seems as soon as I started creeping towards the FSB of 230, things really went wacky/unstable.  No matter if I raised the voltages, loosened memory timings, etc.   But having said that, CONGRATS to you guys for getting your 2.8s juiced up - I wish I had better luck!
Obviously, my next question would be is how well does the 3.4 Ghz Northwood O/C - isn't the ceiling about 4Ghz?

  • MSI 865PE NEO2-V showing wrong RAM timings

    Hi
I have a MSI 865PE NEO2-V motherboard with Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs now and try to put the timings of the RAM to 2-3-3-6 in the bios.
According to http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair...h_results.html it should work ok...but its not.
When i check the timings with CPU-Z it shows 3-4-4-8 instead.
    The SPD is 3-3-3-8.
I have checked so they are in Dual channel and i have put the RAM voltage to 2.75V after i tried with the default voltage, but to no avail.
To be extra certain i ran Everest Ultimate and it showed the exact timings.
The RAM run fine with StressPrime and Prime95 but i get bad results in SiSoft Sandras RAM benchmarks.
    What is going on????

    Hi
    Yeah, it get slow results.
    I have a Intel Prescott 3.2Ghz with FSB800.
I see now that the link uses Java script, its in Corsairs search engine on their site.
    Their recomendations for the set of RAM i have is: TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6 .
I have tried to set the timings as you said but it still runs at 3-4-4-8 whatever i set it at.
I have it running at 2-3-3-6 on another motherboard so i think it must be some settings in the BIOS that i set wrong on this one, but i cant figure it out.
Could it be that somethings wrong with the Performance Mode (MAT) settings?
I tried it on and off, I have also reseted the BIOS to default and even removed the CMOS battery for a while.
I paste all the info from the Corsair site here:

  • Weird 865G Neo2 PLS OC Problem

Ok, I consider myself a pretty good overclocker, but this has confused me to no end. Ok here is the situation. I got a neo 2 pls 865, with a p4 3.0 E prescott. I have 3 sets of ram I have been using to get an overclock, 1 512 kingston value ram, 4 256 Vdata, and dual channel kingson hyper X (performance ram) all PC 3200. I know the kingson hyper X can overclock pretty far from my AMD 64 overclocks.
Ok so I got this 3.0 at fsb at 225 for a 3375 clock witch is OK, but Im sure I should be able to go further. Oh and that is with the mem at 333, so memory is running 391, still way under stock. And just to let you know it runs fine stock with memory running at 400.
Ok so I turn up the fsb a little more like 231 ta 235 and I get tons of errors on memtest. So I clock the ddr clock to 266, (so the memory is running at like 312) and it still errors at around 67% of memtest. That was all with the kingston valuel ram and vdata stuff. So I put my kingston hyper X that I was thinking was going to run fine, but still SAME EXACT PROBLEM. :0(
Sorry for the long post, got any help? Need more data? CPU and RAM voltage are stock.
    THANKS FOR ALL HELP.

The MoBo model/version is printed between the PCI slots.
Important thing is to separate the "old" 865 Neo2 from the "new" 865 Neo2 P-series.
According to your description - 865G Neo2 PLS - you´ve got the newer P-serie MoBo and you should use the 3.x biosversions.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=557&kind=1
I believe 3.8 and 3.A are considered to be the best versions.
Don´t get fooled by the 3.31a figures - this is the biosflashprogram version and not the actual MoBo bios version.
The warning text about "cannot be used on the 865PE/G Neo2" - is related to the old 865 series.
I see no need for you to go below 333mhz RAM speed, that should be enough up to a 250FSb OC.
If you have trouble with that, the reason would be something else.
To get best RAM performance you should run 2x512 ( or 4x256) RAM, in dual channel mode.
You may need to raise your RAM voltage to 2.7v ( as dcasole already suggested) and be sure that AGP/PCI is locked to 66/33.
It is possible that the onboard Graphics could limit your OC ponetial as well - Tried with AGP Graphiccard ?
You also may have to raise the cpu voltage in the end, but be a bit carful with the prescott since it got it own flexibel voltage/ thermal control. No more then 1.5v. - Also recommend a good cpu cooler and good case airflow.
You should be able to reach 3,6Ghz (240FSB) if your cpu has a "normal" potential.
Your PSU is too weak on the 12v line - we usually recommmend 20amps or above with a prescott cpu and OC.
Even more if you would get a high end VGA card.

  • New 865PE Neo2-P freezes

Hi all, thanks for any help in advance.
I'm putting together a new P4 system built around the 865PE Neo2-P motherboard.
    Processor: P4 (prescott) 3.0 GHZ
Memory:  2x 256MB Corsair Value Select PC3200 (if you need the model #, ask)
    Motherboard BIOS version: 3.A0
Hard Drive: WD 7200 RPM, 80 GB
Video card: old, generic PCI video card.
OS windows XP, no updates (no chance--see below)
The computer locks up predictably at several points.
When I do the INF update from the CD-ROM (it worked once or twice).
When I do the INF update through MSI's Live Update 3
Attempting to download WinXP features to enable Windows Update to do its job
It will occasionally lock up when working with start menu options.
It also locked several times while booting from the WinXP CD prior to installing XP.
Doing the INF update off the CD always brings up the System Properties window and if the system is going to lock, it seems to be locking while trying to bring up the window.  I don't know if the Live Update 3 is doing the same thing or not.  I never get far enough.  The net card and AC 97 drivers installed fine.  But then, they don't seem to make the system Properties Window come up either.
Windows Update: The computer downloads the Windows Update program itself just fine, but when I try to get the actual updates, it wants to get additional components.  Once I click the button to tell it to go ahead, the computer locks.
    Troubleshooting
    Memory Swap:
I pulled memory from a functioning computer and replaced the Corsair chips.  No change.
I reduced memory to one memory SIMM in one bank (bank 0)  That got me thoughrough the INF update from the CD but ran aground on Windows Updste and Live Update 3.
BIOS: Is the current version according to MSI's website and Live Update 3.
Disabled L1, L2 caches on the Processor: slowed the computer to a crawl, but it had the same problem when it came to Live Update 3.
Processor Swap: I don't have another P4 to swap.  Both my other machines are Athlons.

    Sharp,
If I read my power supply right, it's rated for 15A on the +12V rail.  Is 16A rock-bottom or recommended?
I have a working machine with a 400W power supply (17A on the +12V rail) and I connected the 400 to the computer.  I'm still getting the same problems.
I downloaded memtest and put it on a floppy.  It's been running for a solid hour now with no complaints.
When I was trying to get ahold of memtest, I surfed out to the memtest.org and tried to download without the benefit of your forum link.  The machine froze after clicking on one of memtest's download links.  I'm pretty sure it was the "precompiled package for floppy" link.  It downloaded fine off your forum link however.
Any other ideas before I RMA this puppy?

  • 865PE Neo2 FIS2R

Hello all. I've searched the forums and read alot of posts about my problem, but seem to be missing the information I am looking for. Let me tell you what is going on. I have the MSI 865PE Neo2 FIS2R mobo ver 1, P4 3.0 800FSB, 1 gig corsair twinx XMS 3200 CL2. My problem is when I try to use this RAM my system will not start. No Post, nothing and the D-bracket shows me memory error code. If I use a strip of crucial from my other PC everything works fine (the crucial is 333mhz at 512mb, cl3). I checked out the RAM compatability report on the MSI site and it was pretty confusing to me. I guess my question is, is my RAM compatible or is there a work around to using the XMS modules?
    Other components are as follows:
    ATI Radeon 9800XT (256)
    48xCD-RW
    80gig WD drive (PATA)
    431w Enermax PSU
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Dink,
great to see someone who has the same config as I have.
    My System:
    865PE NEO2 FIS2R (Bios 1.8)
    CORSAIR TWINX1024-3200C2PRO
    ATI Radeon 9800XT
My system is running very stable with Ram-Settings at 2-3-3-6-8 in Turbo/Sergeant. Pls set your timings to these values. This should work.
Now a question to you. I have problems with the ATI 9800XT cards.
    1) Do you also see stuttering or lags when running 3DMark2001SE? With ATI 9800XT Reference Cards I experience these lags also in the overlay mode and in Games when turning very fast (egoshooters). You can see what I mean when you install this little tool which changes the background of your WinXP desktop to a psychedelic wormhole: http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/index.html
After you start this funny tool. Watch out for your desktop. If it isn't runnin 100% smooth you have the same problems as I have. The only 9800XT card which isn't causing this stuttering is the ASUS 9800XT. Could you pls. tell me if you also see these lags? You can increase the stuttering by copying some files from Dir1 to Dir2.
These lags have no impact of benchmark results!
    2) Pls could you tell me what's the IRQ of your card? 16? Is it shared with the USB Controller?
    3) Who is the manufacturer of your card? Ati itself or Hercules, HIS or Saphire??
If you cannot see this stuttering I would bet you have a ASUS.
