A little confuse on the command target .. command
hi got this from rman oracle press book. aux1 is the auxiliary instance.
$ ORACLE SID aux1;export ORACLE SID
$ rman target /
RMAN> connect auxiliary sys/ora10g@aux1
RMAN> duplicate target database to aux1
pfile /u01/app/oracle/product/admin/aux1/pfile/init.ora

my question is, the target command should be a production database where you want to clone from right. Is there any mistake on the book?
cos when you rman target it will be connected to the aux1 database isn't it. rman target / is a os authentication login. so whatever you export ORACLE_SID, you will log into that particular database.
my thinking now is it should be rman target sys/yourProdsysPassword@prod

I am a newbie to MAC world. Being an ex-PC guy, I am used to CDs and traditional software. I want to buy Aperture as my main photo editing software. I have been using DXO and Photoshop in the past. I'm a little confused about the vents...
At work I use my early 2011 MBP connected to an external monitor. The computer itself sits on a ThermaPAK to help cool it down, because I do graphic work it runs hot. I want to know if I close my MBP if it cuts off the ventaliation to the board and all because from what I understand the vents themselves are in the black strip? If it keeps the computer cooler, I have no problem using the external display soley and using an external keyboard and mouse (which I do anyway).
Tips and tricks?
Other ways to cool it down?Ran it now, here's the results!

I'm a little confused about the Adobe Site of the Day submission.
Can you only submit if built with Muse? Where can you submit an already built side with code?
The sites in the www.adobekb.com Site Of The Day gallery are Muse sites. Many contain HTML embed code for maps, Twitter feeds, forms, videos, analytics, etc., which can be simply copied/pasted into Muse Design view. Some contain animations created and placed/imported from Edge Animate or Flash Pro.
We do our best to screen the site of the day winners to exclude sites that were achieved by editing the HTML generated by Muse after export, since that workflow requires hand coding which is not what Muse is about. Sites that include copied/pasted embed code or small snippets of code inserted in the <head> section of Page Properties within Muse are fine.
A couple caveats
1) We recently removed one site that relied on hand editing after export from Muse, which either did not contain that code when the award was granted, or we missed it.
2) Authors of sites are likely to continue to evolve their designs after the award is granted, so the site linked to may no longer be the exact site/code that was awarded Site Of The Day honors.
If you encounter a site in the gallery and are puzzled by how it was created with Muse, ask about it here. I'm sure the community would be happy to respond and the discussion would be educational for all. -

Target & Max Bit Rate - A Little confusing Need file to be 15 GB Blu-Ray Help????
I have a 2 and a half hour project on PPro CS 5.5 that I want to encode in H.264 Blu-Ray. I want to get it to 15 GB.
What woud be the best settings to do so?
The Target Bit Rate and Max Bit Rate have a lot to do with it, but I am a little confused on what each of them really do.
I just want to get it to 15 GB and make sure the Estimated file size somewhat accurate.
Is 15 GB too big for a Blu-Ray?

I just started to build just my menus with my QT files inside of them as a "Build to Folder."
I think I know why it's saying 7.1 GB used.
Since the menus in Encore stop and loop after 30 seconds, I did not like that.
I like to play a full song on each menu and then when the song ends, it starts again. If I did that on a standard 30 second menu in Encore, the song would stop every 30 seconds and start again. This was not acceptable to me.
This does not happen in DVD Studio Pro. In DVD Studio Pro, I can put in a full song with Videos in Video Zones, change the loop time to the length of that song, and the menu would play that song, and loop again when it was over.
I wanted to do this in Encore, so I had to make the menus a little longer than the song I wanted to put in them. I did that.
1) I went into After Effects with the background of the menu I wanted to use.
2) It comes in as a .psd file.
3) I then stretched it out to a length a little longer than the song. (For exaample, I'm using a song that is 4 minutes and 50 seconds, so I stretched out the background of that menu to 5 Minutes.)
4) I then rendered out that newly made 5 minute menu out of After Effects, using H.264 1440 x 1080i, 29.97 High Quality.
5) I then brought that newly made 5 minute background back into Encore and placed it over the original 30 second background in Encore.
6) Now the song and the videos inside the "Video Drop Zones" will loop until the song is over, stop, then the song will start again and the videos keep on looping. Just like in DVD Studio Pro
For this particular job I did this 6 times (1 for each sub-menu) depending on the length of the song I am using for each menu.
1) The first sub-menu is a 5 minute menu which, when rendered in After Effects, came out to be 1.5 GB Big
2) The second menu is a 4 minute menu which came out to be 1.2 GB
3) The third is a 4 and a half minute menu which is 1.35 GB
4) The fourth is a 3 and a half minute menu which is 1.05 GB
5) The fifth menu is another 4 minute menu which is 1.2.GB
6) The sixth menu is a 7 minute menu which is 2.1 GB.
When you add them up it actually comes out to be 8.4 GB just the menus without any videos in them.
So Encore has already compressed them down a little.
It's not the videos that are taking up much space, but these menus.
Since I am building my job in Encore to a folder, I want to see what the actual size comes out to be after it's compressd. This will give me an idea of how big I can make my 2 and a half hour wedding. The Target and Max Bit rate.
I hope that sheds some light on why Encore is saying that the menus and QT files are taking up 7.1 GB already.
I wish there was another way that I can have my menus play for the length of any song without having to go into After Effects and stretch each menu to accomodate the length of a particular song. This takes up a lot of space, but it's the way I like to make my menus.

Does anyone know what's the format for the <mdfile> argument on the fcsvr_client upload command?
As I understood, if I want to upload a file to fcsvr's Library device using the CLI, I would write:
sudo ./fcsvr_client upload /dev/4 <file> <mdfile>
where <file> is the path and filename for the file to be uploaded and mdfile is the upload metadata file. I have tried to use the ReadXML file structure and the getmd file structure and I keep receiving the following error message:

Bus errorJust one more note to add to the good ones already here: Make sure your source material is as good as it can possibly be. Maybe I'm the weirdo, but in my experience scaling down and compressing video for Web delivery exaggerates rather than hiding shortcomings in the source material. Most of my content is delivered over the Web, but I shoot everything in high-definition with aggressively contrasty lighting and deeply crushed blacks. You might think it wouldn't matter, since it's all getting downscaled and compressed for distribution anyway, but at least to my eyes, material that's shot in high resolution (and yes, at 23.976) with a lot of in-camera contrast compresses better. You end up with fewer subtle areas of mostly-the-same luminance, like in the backgrounds, and that's where Internet compression really falls apart. By keeping everything in sharp contrast, and especially by underlighting your backgrounds and really crushing your blacks, I feel you give the encoder a little advantage and let it produce a better result.
But that might just be me. -
3D Repoussé Could not complete the Layer Mask command

The first time I did it, I reached the result with no problem. But now, a little while later, when I tried to use:
3D > Repoussé > Layer Mask (Step 5 - Tutorial)
The following error message was delivered (image attached):
Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Extended
(X) Could not complete the Layer Mask command . The selected path cannot be converted to Repoussé. It does not contain any closed sub-paths or has an unusable subpath.
Does anyone had an idea of what is happening? Or how to solve it?

Thanks for pointing out that tutorial.
I haven't walked thru it, but what the error is meant to tell you in this case is the path constructed in AI is an open path. Repoussé requires a closed path to generate meshes. Try going back to AI and making sure the mirrored path file is closed before copying into Ps. Or you can try to modify the path in Ps using the vector tools to make it closed.

When I execute the "last' command...... I am seeing too little to be real..... something is up..... I need to determine when the information was deleted.

I have gone an gotten the source code for last at the BSD project but Im' not a c programmer and apple's version is a branch or so it seems to me cause they've got to be different and I'm not sure where to configure last or how to better understand what I'm seeing.

Validation Error - An error occured executing the provided SQL Command
Hi All,
I am new to using SQL Server in general (2008 R2) and am trying to change the source location for multiple packages in order to obtain our data from a more reliable environment.
I have created a copy of the target database where the data will be loaded, amended the source and target connection managers and ran through the packages to ensure they work, which many do.
We are changing the source from a local server to a cloud based server and when running a package that literally truncates target table, selects * from source, and inserts data to target I get a validation error "An error occurred executing the provided
SQL Command "Select *...." The connection has been disabled" and "component ADO NET Source failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN"".
The table structure from the 2 sources is the same and I have even recreated the data flow tasks to ensure the metadata has updated. When selecting 100 rows or even 5,000,000 rows from source the package runs fine but will fail as above
when selecting &* (around 9.5 million rows).
I'm not sure if this is due to the new data source being web based or if it could be some erroneous data in the table that isn't being selected when limiting to 5 milling rows etc.
I have spend hours trying to figure out what the issue could be (doesn't help being new to SQL Server) so any guidance would be hugely appreciated!!!

Unfortunately I don't believe any of the above are the issues.
Our current working project/packages run via an SQL agent job daily. To test and ensure the package in question ran outside of the agent WITHOUT changing the ADO NET Source I exported the package (that runs daily) and ran it locally,
to which it failed.
I then edited the select statement from 'select * from [table]' to 'select top(100) from [table] to which it ran without error.
So in summary:
Package will run fine if run as part of the agent job (with multiple other packages)
Package will not run from File System when selecting * from the source table
Package will run from File System when selecting limited rows
Could this be something to do with permissions? The errors I get are:
An error occurred executing the provided SQL command: "select * from [table]". The connection has been disabled.
"component" ADO NET Source"(396") failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN".

Can someone please explain and help me? I am unlocking an iphone4 from at&t to use it on the straight talk network. They've confirmed my request to do this and I am now a little confused as to what to do next. They want me to back up the phone using itunes on either a MAC or PC. Install iTunes on your Acer and you can back up the iPhone. Or back it up to iCloud. If you do not back it up you can get it unlocked, but you will lose all of your content.

Even after unlocking I'm not sure it will work on Straight Talk, because last time I checked ST used Verizon as its carrier, and an AT&T iPhone 4 is not compatible with Verizon's network. You can probably use it on Net 10 or T-Mobile once it is unlocked. -

Use this command for disaster recovery only to recover an image via TFTP.
Monitor variables are used to set up parameters for the transfer.
(Syntax: "VARIABLE_NAME=value" and use "set" to show current variables.)
"ctrl-c" or "break" stops the transfer before flash erase begins.
The following variables are REQUIRED to be set for tftpdnld:
IP_ADDRESS: The IP address for this unit
IP_SUBNET_MASK: The subnet mask for this unit
DEFAULT_GATEWAY: The default gateway for this unit
TFTP_SERVER: The IP address of the server to fetch from
TFTP_FILE: The filename to fetch
The following variables are OPTIONAL:
TFTP_VERBOSE: Print setting. 0=quiet, 1=progress(default), 2=verbose
TFTP_RETRY_COUNT: Retry count for ARP and TFTP (default=18)
TFTP_TIMEOUT: Overall timeout of operation in seconds (default=7200)
TFTP_CHECKSUM: Perform checksum test on image, 0=no, 1=yes (default=1)
TFTP_MACADDR: The MAC address for this unit
FE_PORT: 0= (default), 1
FE_SPEED_MODE: 0=10/hdx, 1=10/fdx, 2=100/hdx, 3=100/fdx,
5=Auto (default)
TFTP_DESTINATION: The flash destination device for the file

which says that the router is looking for the 10.0.0.2 server but not getting response to its arp request. Can the original poster clarify for us how the device that has the image file is connected to the router that has the problem? Also what kind of device is 10.0.0.2? Is it a PC running TFTP server software or is it something else?

MAC Mouse and Keyboard Do Not Work, when I am trying to re-install the OS using "Command R" option
I am trying to re-install MAC OS 10.8.2, but when I hold "command R" I am asked for the firmware password, but the keyboard and mouse do not work.
If I only select "option" during the boot up process it will ask me for the firmware password, keyboard and mouse work, but I can only select the HD option.
Can someone advise what is the problem here, and your resolution.
I have tried different commands "option + command + R' with no luck.I tried what was provided on the link, but it is not working.
I hold it down, before the gray screen and the chime, but it only prompts but the firmware password.
I tried based on the specific order in the support document and at a random press and hold.
No go any other thoughts? -
hi, i am a littl confused as I logged into creative cloud and bough the in design plan for a year but i cant seem to donwload it... there is a window that pops up and it says its downloading but its taking forever? any advice?
