Can't Install Render Engine as per Help file

I was able to install the render engine and use it in the past. I have updated to CS5.5 and I am trying to install the render engine. i am being asked for a code or trial option before it will install. If I choose "trial" I won't be able to use the render engine beyond 30 days. What has happened? Are we no longer allowed to install the render engine on more than one computer??? That doesn't make sense.
I call tech support and out of three different techs no one knew what I was talking about. So how do we install the render engines? Or do we have to pay for licenses now??
The help file says to install After Effects as you would normally, just don't activate it. Appears that is no longer an option. You either enter an activation code or select TRIAL.

Here is the link to the directions I am following: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79a2 a.html
I have had a render farm up and running using these directions. For some reason this is no longer working.
I entered the serial number and got a message from the installer that I had used my activations. I have not launched AE so I am not activating, correct? When choosing "trial" instead, the render engine link launches AE, not the engine, until I select "continue trial". By entering the serial number before installation I still get a message about only having 30 days as a trial version.
If the serialization has nothing to do with activation, then why is the installer refering to exceeding activations??
Am I using the wrong serial number somehow? It's hard to tell when I have 3 entries in my product list all of which say version 10. I am not sure why there are 3. Must mean that I have bought an extra license??

    32 versus 64 doesn't make a difference.
"I've seen similar issues on httP://feedback.photoshop.com You should maybe post there to report the bug."
Thanks.  I searched there and found what might be a workaround. I think this is simply a bug in CS5. If (as indicated in posts revealed by searching the forum you linked me to) I temporarily change Printer Manages Color to Photoshop Manages Color in the PS window, I can then access Print Settings again to make changes, Save and then change Photoshop Manages Color back to Printer Manages Color.
    Go figure.
Thanks a lot for the help.
What I don't understand is why everyone isn't experiencing the same issue.

  • I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I tried to do a reinstall of Tiger 10.4.5 from my start up disk.  I get an error that states "can't install on this computer." HELP

I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I used the disk utility and erased the drive and formatted it to OSX Journaled .  When I tried to install the OS from the start up disks I got the error "Can't install on this computer.  I have verified the drive.
I have used Super Duper to copy my old drive to my new drive.  But I wanted to do a fresh install.  How do I go about this?

Did you do the Super Duper clone before you tried to reinstall the OS? If so, the original install disc is likely earlier than 10.4.11, and that may be why you are getting the message.
When trying to reinstall the OS, did you select the "Archive and Install" option? If not, you might try that. Here's a link that might help:

  • Can't install more RAM, what will help?

OK need a bit of help.
My elderly iMac has been a bit problematic lately, spinning beach balls, laggy, that chuggy noise which I always think is Spotlight indexing... (can't think of a more technical way to describe it!). I've just nosed around and saw a thread saying take a look in Activity Monitor at System Momory. This is what mine shows.
The thread I looked at kept saying 'are there a lot of pageouts, without actually defining what 'A lot' of page outs were! Nosed a bit more and think I may have too many page outs?
Now, thing is, I'm maxed out on RAM, in fact this machine should only take 4GB but I  managed to get it to accept 6MB, after doing some research and finding it was possible. So, I can't install any more RAM. Am also on Mountain Lion.
I have to trundle on with this Mac for a while longer. What can I do to improve my page outs and general speed of machine? Is it purely not having lots of applications open at once? I'm a designer so have CS6 installed, and use InDesign, Illust. and Photoshop. Is there anything I can do to get a bit more life out of this trusty warrior? Everything else on it works just fine.
I'm not 100% techie, but can usually sort out my  mac problems if someone explains clearly!
Spec of iMac: Alu 2.8GHz C2D 6GB SDRAM (should only take 4GB SDRAM but found out that it can take 6) 1TB HD

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory. That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing softwre. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • I downloaded the new maverick and now i can't open iPhoto and can't install the new version. Help?

Iphoto has a circle with line through it. its iPhoto 9.2.3. I go to the app store and try and download the new version and i get these windows. if someone can help that would be great. also i had problems installing maverick I'm backing up my hard drive and going to try and reinstall maverick but i dont know what else to do i have all my daughters baby photos on there. is there anyway i can transfer my library to a different app and open it that way???

The error message means, that a different AppleID has been used to buy iPhoto '11 or to accept it to the AppleID, when the Mac first has been set up.
If you are now using a different AppleID then the one you used, when you set up your Mac, launch the App Store and sing into the AppStore with  the old AppleID (in the "Store" menu).
If your Mac has been set up by someone else, ask this person to sign into the AppStore and update iPhoto for you. If you bought the Mac second hand  and cannot contact the previous owner, delete iPhoto from the Applications folder and buy it using your AppleID.
If none of this applies, and you bought the Mac as new, and never used a different AppleID, contact the store that sold you the Mac. They may have sold you a refurbished Mac, with the iLife apps still tied to a different AppleID.

  • Can't install, uninstall or run QuickTime - help!

About three weeks ago my QuickTime all of a sudden stopped working.
When I try to play something, I get the following error message: "An error occurred inside a plug-in contained on this page".
Then the following message comes up: "The plug-in did not initialize properly".
I get a picture of a film strip with a broken section through it.
When I try to uninstall Quicktime from my computer, I get the following message: "Fatal error during installation".
I can't uninstall it, and I can't re-install it. I can't repair it or change it or remove it from the computer. Everything else on my computer seems to be working just fine.
Any ideas? I appreciate your help!!!

    replying to Shisou
I recently installed ACE codec version 6.3.911.0, i had a suspicion (sp) that this is what was causing the problem, but the codec pack is great so i'm hoping there's a work around.
it's our prime suspect at the moment.
the runtime problems arise when the codec packas contain componentry/codecs for earlier versions of QuickTime than the minimum version needed for iTunes to run. the iTunes 7.1.x versions required at least a QT 7.1.5 (up from QT 7.1.3 for the iTunes 7.0.x versions), so we got a fresh round of the codec pack businesses with that.
(now of course, with QT 7.1.6 on the scene, i daresay we might start having some trouble with Codec packs that just contain QT 7.1.5 codecs and componentry.)
the best thing to do first would be trying to uninstall the Codec pack. if QuickTime (and therefore iTunes) is still not running after that, try seeing if an uninstall/reinstall of QuickTime now goes through (without the fatal error). if it does, does QuickTime start working again?

  • Can't install 10.3.2 please help!!

I just tried to install Panther to my iMac 350 with OS 9.2 and the firmware update.
When I try to install, after it says restart, I get a message that says, "startup disk was unable to select CD as start up disk."
I went to the startup disk control panel and I can see the 10.3.2 install disk, but I can't choose it.
Please help if you can. Is this, perhaps, an update and not a 10 install?
    Thank you
    Allan

    allano:
To install Panther your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Panther.
You will also need to purchase the Full Retail version of Panther. Please note that Computer specific or upgrade versions should be avoided since they are optimized for the computer to which they are specific and will therefore, very likely, cause problems during or after installation. On the legal side, it may be a violation of the Software License Agreement which statesThis License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time...You can purchase universal installer Panther disks, guaranteed to install, from applerescue.
If your computer meets the above qualitifcations and if you have a Full Retai Version of Panther, try this proceure for installation:
Warning! Be sure you have a tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from you install disk holding down the "C" key.
    When booted, select language.
Go to Instaaller menu (Panther & earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
    Click Repair Disk Permissions.
After Permissions are repaired Click Repair Disk.
    Quit Disk Utility.
    Open Installer and begin installation.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Check box to install BSD subsystem.
    Proceed with installation.
After installation computer will restart for setup.
    After setup, reboot computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
    Click Repair Disk Permissions.
    Connect to Internet.
Download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update
    Restart computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.

  • IMovie 08 Requirements. Can't install iMovie 08! Please help!

    I have a G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz PPC with 2gb of memory.
I am trying to install iLife 08.
    The requirements say:
    iLife ’08 requirements
Hardware: Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor
    • iMovie requires a Mac computer with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster)
    • iDVD requires 733MHz or faster processor
512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended; high-definition video requires at least 1GB of RAM
    I have the minimum.
Why can't I install iMovie if i have the minimum requirements?
Please help! I bought iLife 08 just to run the new iMovie. Don't tell me i have to purchase a new computer now?!?
    Thanks!

As Ben says, solved, it is.
    Here's my little saga:
Upon detaching the 24" from the ATI 9200 and restarting, the installation, including iMovie, went without a hitch. Again, this is with the 9200 still seated comfortably in its PCI slot.
After reattaching the display and restarting, iMovie '08 would not even launch. I was greeted with a small dialog box:
    "*Quartz Extreme Required*
iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme."
The only button was Quit. As a comparison, I then launched iMovie '06. I was greeted with this:
"*Your computer contains a graphics card which may not support iMovie.*
iMovie requires a “Quartz Extreme Compatible” graphics card. Certain iMovie features such as Themes, Ken Burns Photos, and Video FX may not work properly with your graphics card."
In this instance, however, my options were "Quit" and "Launch iMovie." Selecting "Launch iMovie" allowed me to use the application, but without the Quartz animations.
    Definitely a "kinder, gentler" iMovie.
Whenever I wish to use either version of iMovie, I'll have to unplug the third display, and restart before I can get down to business.
Two things of interest to me are:
    1) What would happen if I had unplugged the third display and restarted, launched iMovie (either version, but '08 especially), and then hot-attached the third display to the 9200? I'm curious to see what would happen. Naturally, attaching and un-attaching displays to a running Mac is not recommended, but it's been fairly common practice in the Mac repair shops at which I've worked. *I definitely do not recommend it, as you may end up frying something.*
That being said, I'm still curious to see if iMovie would still run properly, freeze, or quit.
    2) Remember a few generations of Mac OS X back there was a little software hack called "PCI Extreme?" It's purpose was to fool an application into thinking you were Quartz enabled. There were many caveats, most notably that it could not perform magic on older cards, but many folks had success with it in Jaguar and Panther. Now, it seems, a few Tiger users are playing with it. The developer’s notes mention the following:
"Unfortunately, because Apple hardcoded the setting into CoreGraphics, I'm not aware of a way to enable both AGP and PCI graphics quartz acceleration at the same time. If you know a way, please let me know."
Therein, as the Bard tells us, lies the rub. Still, this avenue remains interesting. If I knew the first thing about coding, I'd delve into this to see if there was a method by which an application like iMovie would at least "ignore" the 9200 (as in this particular case) and just let the X850 XT do its thing.
For the adventurous among you, PCI Extreme is still available and does, to some extent, function in Tiger. You can get a it at http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/8979#descContainer_link
I agree that this issue is solved insofar as the boundaries of the initial question posted by Marc. It's the geeky can of worms that follows that will nag at me for a while.
This is ironic, as I use iMovie so infrequently I shouldn’t be concerned by this, especially seeing as there is a work-around if at least one of your installed cards is, indeed, capable of baring the brunt.
The biggest lingering issue, to me, is why can't we have a better, more powerful PCI option than the 9200? I suppose the answer is; "There is. It's called a Mac Pro."
This has been a fun one. Good work, everyone!
As always, I remain your humble crooner.

  • Can't install firmware v20 on n97 help please?

    hello,
i've been trying to update my phone for the past 10 hours and it's not worked in either NSU or OVI suite.
In OVI suite it gives me an internal error, phone not detected and NSU tells me to plug my phone directly to the pc even though it is. Can someone please help me with this?
    thanks

Not to sound rude, but plugging it into a different USB does nothing.
    Re-installing everything does nothing.
FIX OVI so i can update my N97!
FIX NSU so I can update my N97!
Make a phone that doesn't need to be corrected 4 times Nokia.
Your USB Hub Errors/Internal Errors are all indications you have no idea what you are doing.
Don't make customers use these products when they don't work for everybody.
There are literally thousands of pages of questions, complaints and pleas for help from all around the world.
You people have not answered them, or more importantly, fixed the problems.
    Why even offer these discussions?
    Nothing becomes of them obviously.
Even though people have paid good money, and usually alot of money, to have one of your products, the least you can do is offer people help.
Oh, the Nokia Care Centre's you say?
I rang one of them, telling them I cannot update my N97 to V20 using OVI or NSU.
They HAD NO IDEA what I was talking about.
They suggested I re-install the programs.
    Yeah, did that. Did nothing.
It is your programs that are the problems.
    We all need help.
    Have you helped us?
    No.
You should all sit down and read these discussions and actually help you customers.
Rectify these issues with NSU/OVI and the N97 immediately.
You charged us a thousand dollars for this piece of machinery, the least you could do is support it
    properly with working assistance.
I have been a loyal Nokia customer for the last 10 years.
I bought my first Nokia phone in 1998.
Now, because of your N97 and your inability to help your customers,
I will NEVER EVER BUY A NOKIA PRODUCT.
    You disappoint me.

    Trial download CS5
    Windows Vista Home
    Installed.
    I start set-up.exe.
Msg = "Please close all of the following applications to continue:"  RSO3Server.exe
    I can't find it.
Help!  I need to review Photoshop before my job interview.
    Pls reply to [email protected]

Near as I can see, RSO3Server.exe is a part of something called RoboSource Control 3 from Adobe (never heard of this; part of RoboHelp maybe)?  Is this something you have installed your system?  If so, is there a user interface for shutting it down (a control panel, or an icon in the system tray maybe)?
This is an extreme method to get it out of the way...  Bring up your Task Manager.  Do you see RSO3Server.exe running in the Processes tab?  If so, right-click on it and end it.

  • Firefox won't open and won't uninstall so I can re-install and start anew. HELP!

I'm on a Dell laptop with Windows Vista using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. My son was playing a game online (addicting games website I think) and the whole game screen didn't show up, he had to scroll. I went to the top of the page and right clicked and closed the address bar and menu bar so they weren't in the way. I've done this in the past and it worked fine. Not this time! When I went back to put those bars back on I couldn't do it. I had no address bar, no forward, back, refresh and home buttons, no file, edit, view buttons etc. I looked in my internet settings and all over the place and couldn't figure out how to replace those bars. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but those bars still were not there. I did this again after deleting browsing history (cookies and all) in case this problem was saved in my preferences. Still, no bars or buttons. I tried to uninstall again but now it won't even uninstall! It stubornly stays right there! It also won't even open now! I click on the icon and it sits. I right click the icon and hit open and it sits. I'm dead in the water. I can't even sign in to Pogo anymore because IE crashes everytime. I hate IE.....HELP!

    Right... Back to square one.
    - Open Internet Explorer, go to "www.mozilla.com" and download the installer for Firefox 3.6.12 and save it to your desktop.
    - To uninstall Firefox, first make sure no "firefox.exe" processes are running on your machine: Open the task manager (invoke it by pressing ctrl-alt-del and choosing the appropriate option), click on the "Processes" tab, click on the heading "Name" to sort all running processes by name.
Scroll down the list and right-click on the first "firefox.exe" process picking the "Kill process" option. If there's more than one of them, repeat for all instances of "firefox.exe".
    - Now go to the directory C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall and double-click "helper.exe". This should uninstall Firefox completely.
    - Now we're in for the hard part: Go to C:\Dokuments and Settings\[Your User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. That's where your profile resides. Unless you're using the Profile Manager, chances are you're seeing just one directory "[random string],default". (In my case it's called "4sr92zjz.default", f. ex.).
If you got any bookmarks you'd like to keep, open this folder, find the file "places.sqlite" and move it to your desktop.
Now delete the entire contents of your profile folder--you'll need to configure firefox anew. Do keep this window open, you'll need it again in a few moments.
Go to your desktop, run the installer, start Firefox once, close it again and move your "places.sqlite" file from your desktop to your profile folder.
Now double-click Firefox and reconfigure it according to your preferences.
N.B.: Do get "MozBackup". With this application you're able to save and restore a working Firefox profile--for your next mishap ;-)
