Officejet Pro 8600 N911a not able to air print since Maverick update

My Officejet Pro 8600 N911a worked fine printing wireless before the newest Maverick upgrade.  Now it will only print one print job after I turn the printer off and then back on.  If I connect the computer to the printer, it seems to work fine, so it has to do with the upgrade and airprint.  I have just downloaded the current Mavericks plug in, but there is no change.

When you say Airprint, are you printing Wireless diect to the 8600 or is the 8600 connected to your wireless network?
When you say the latest plu-n, do you mean the update from Apple Software Update (Apple Store) or the full 10.9 solution from HP.com?
In either case I would recommend first just deleting the print queue on the Macintosh and re-adding it.  If that does not resolve the issue try resetting teh print system and adding the printer back new.
Try performing a "reset print system" on teh Macintosh and then reconnecting to the printer.
To reset the print system perform the following:
1. Open System Preferences
2. Click on the Print & Scan
3. click or click in the box listing the current print queues.
4. Select Reset printing system...
5. Enter admin User Name and Password
6. Reboot the Macintosh
7. Try setting up the printer again

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 n911a - not working, again

I purchased this printer (Officejet Pro 8600) last week. Set up was really difficult. A PC laptop set up quickly and works fine. My iMac and Mac Book - coulnd't 'see'  the printer for set up. I managed to install drivers and achieve printing by using a USB cable to set up the wireless' connections using the IP address.
All worked for Wednesday to Friday. This monring, both Macs find the printer 'unreachable', the PC is printing fine.
    I have:
    Hard reset the printer
Downloaded the Apple support files, and restarted
Downloaded the most up to date drivers from the HP website
    Still nothing. What next?
My Mac is using OS 10.8.5
This is costing me time and money, not withstanding the purchase price. What next ... I need a printer - or I wouldn't have paid for one.
    All help gratefully received.

Good news - I've managed to add a static IP address.
So, for now at least, the iMac and Mac Book can see the printer and print. Hopefully it lasts ...
Still cannot 'scan to computer'. It works on the pc, but I cannot scan to/via the macs - which is what I need to do. And no, I cannot share a network folder on the pc (it is not mine). Is there any way around this? It used to work fine with the HP scan software on my old Deskjet F4580 ... any advice appreciated

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.  I would like to have a custom size to work with a card making program.

    Can you help me out?
I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a
When I try to print to a custom print size (2.75" x 6" in my case), I get the same error everyone else is reporting: "Paper detected does not match paper size or type selected. Make sure the paper size or type is correct to continue the job."
I am currently trying to print using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5, but I have the same problem with printing from Adobe Reader 9.8.5 or Preview 8.0.
    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.
My printer's firmware is "up to date" as of 28-Aug-2014.
    This is what I did:
    1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Click on the Printers & Scanners icon.
    3. Click on the + sign under the list of printers to add a printer
    4. Click on IP
    5. Enter my IP address in the Address field (verified as "valid and complete host name or address")
    6. Ignore Protocol field (default is Line Printer Daemon - LPD)
    7. Ignore Queue field (default is blank for default queue)
    8. Ignore Name field (default is IP address)
    9. Ignore Location field (default is blank)
    10. Under the Use dropdown menu, I select "Select Software"
    11. HP Deskjet 9800 is not an option.
I searched for 9800, but there is no HP printer with that number in the options.
I tried selecting "HP DeskJet 980C - Gutenprint v5.2.3" to see if that would work, but I received the same error message as above. I tried selecting other random HP printers, but so far I've had no luck.
I've been googling about for a way to manually add a printer driver to this "Select Software" list, but I've found nothing (apparently, no one else wants to do this). I did not find a driver download for the HP DeskJet 9800 for OS X Yosemite 10.10 on the Drivers & Software section of the hp.com website.
Additional details on settings for Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5:
Selected File > Page Setup from menu
Under the Paper Size drop down menu, I selected manage custom size.
    - Click + to add a paper size
    - Enter "2.75" in width and "6 in" height in the paper size fields.
    - Enter "0 in" as the User Defined Non-Printable Area for top, left, right and bottom.
    - Double-clicked Untiled in the custom size list and rename the size as Receipt
    - Click OK to return to the Page Setup dialog box
    Under Settings: Page Attributes:
    - Format for "HP Officejet Pro 8600"
    - Paper size: Receipt
    - Orientation: "tall/portrait"
    - Scale: 100%
    - Click OK
Select Format > Document and set all page margins to 0.25"

  • Can;t enable web service on HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a we have installed this printer as a network printer.  Everything works fine except that I cannot enable the Web service to EPrint or scan to an email.  It says the printer cannot access the internet.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Hello. First power cycle the printer, and the router to see if that will clear up the error message. To do that unplug the router then power down the printer using the power button. Then plug the router back in and once it is back up an running, turn on the printer and try to reconnect to web services
Then, if still unable to connect, I would set a static DNS on the printer. To set a static DNS you must access the embedded web server (EWS). You do that by entering the IP address for the printer into the address bar of the browser of your choice.
Once it brings up your Officejet's EWS, locate the tab that is labeled “Network”. From there look in the left column on the new page that will pop up and select IPv4, wired or wireless will depend on how the printer is connected to the network. That will bring up the page to set the Static DNS. It will be the 2nd portion of that page.
Set the radial dial to manual. Then, for the Manual preferred/Primary DNS, set it to 8.8.8.8 and the Manual Alternative/Secondary to 8.8.4.4; then click apply.
NOTE: if another message with an option to click “OK” appears, read that message carefully. Most of the time it is an option to undo the change you just did and you will want to avoid clicking that message. Just navigate away from that page by clicking on another tab.
Power cycle the printer. Once printer is back up and through with calibrations from being turned off and on. Reattempt to connect to web services by touching the icon.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer - N911a - Cannot scan

    Hi Support,
I am getting very frustrated with my new printer. Now I have searched this forum and tried this and that, installed and uninstalled and run misc. HP tools, still I cannot use the "HP Scan" program from the PC and also not the "Scan to Computer" option from the printer.
I get an error message saying that "HP Officejet Pro 8600 was not found".
I am able to scan to a networkfolder - and printing is also possible.
I have activated every setting in the EWS admin module to be sure.
I have checked that these services are running (was mentioned in another support ticket):
     - Remote Procedure Call RPC .
     - DCOM Server Process Launcher
     - RPC Endpoint Mapper
     - Shell Hardware Detection
     - Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
and they are - so that is not the problem.
When I run the "HPPIW.exe" (Printer Install Wizard) downloaded from support - it says that the full installation is there except the drivers.
    System info:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer - N911a
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Product CD - holds driver version 24.2.0 ( which also is the latest version that I can download.)
Please someone help me, I was expecting to be able to use the product that I bought ;O)
    Thanks,
    Thomas, (Denmark)

  • Can I print from my iPhone 4 using an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a

Can I print from my iPhone 4 using an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a.  And if so how do I do this????

    Hi stacy7560,
You can print from your iPhone4 to your 8600 using Apple's AirPrint feature.  I have a few steps you can follow to do this:
    1.  Make sure the iPhone is on the same wireless network as your printer.
    2.  Select the mail application on the iOS device and open an email you wish to print.
    3.  At the top of the screen, locate and press the action icon.
    4.  Select the "Print" option.
    5.  Make sure your printer is in the top field of the Printer Options screen.  If not, tap “Select Printer.”  Your printer should appear.
    6.  Press the “Print” selection.
Note:  To print a photo, follow these same steps once you have opened the image you wish to print.
Let me know if this helps.

I insert an SD card full of photos into the built in card reader - but have no option to send the photos to a file on my computer. Does this product only print but not send to a computer?  I need to edit the photos before printing.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a - Print when Fax is Not Saved

Can I make it so a fax is printed when it's not saved? I know I can set it to print and save every time, but I rely on HP Digital Fax to save paper. If a fax is not saved, either due to a network error or if the computer that it usually saves to is shut off, can the fax just be printed?

, it's nice to meet you. I think I found something that may help with your faxing dilemma. This information was in the User Guide for the Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a; pg 69. Set up backup fax Depending on your preference and security requirements, you can set up the printer to store all the faxes it receives, only the faxes it receives while the printer is in an error condition, or none of the faxes it receives. The following backup fax modes are available:On > The default setting. When Backup fax is On, the printer stores all received faxes in memory. This enables you to reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes if they are still saved in memory. NOTE: When printer memory is low, it overwrites the oldest, printed faxes as it receives new faxes. If the memory becomes full of unprinted faxes, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If you receive a fax that is too large, such as a very detailed color photo, it might not be stored in memory due to memory limitations.
On Error Only > Causes the printer to store faxes in memory only if an error condition exists that prevents the printer from printing the faxes (for example, if the printer runs out of paper). The printer continues to store incoming faxes as long as there is memory available. (If the memory becomes full, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls.) When the error condition is resolved, the faxes stored in memory print automatically, and then they are deleted from memory.
Off > Faxes are never stored in memory. For example, you might want to turn off Backup fax for security purposes. If an error condition occurs that prevents the printer from printing (for example, the printer runs out of paper), the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If backup fax is enabled and you turn the printer off, all faxes stored in memory are deleted, including any unprinted faxes that you might have received while the printer was in an error condition. You must contact the senders to ask them to resend any unprinted faxes. For a list of the faxes you have received, print the Fax Log. The Fax Log is not deleted when the printer is turned off. To set backup fax from the printer control panel 1. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.2. Touch Fax Setup, and then select Advanced Fax Setup.3. Touch Backup Fax Reception.4. Touch On, On Error Only, or Off. Reprint received faxes from memoryIf you set the Backup fax mode to On, the received faxes are stored in memory, whether the printer has an error condition or not. NOTE: After the memory becomes full, the oldest, printed faxes are overwritten as new faxes are received. If all the stored faxes are unprinted, the printer does not receive any fax calls until you print or delete the faxes from memory. You might also want to delete the faxes in memory for security or privacy purposes. Depending on the sizes of the faxes in memory, you can reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes, if they are still in memory. For example, you might need to reprint your faxes if you lost the copy of your last printout. To reprint faxes in memory from the printer control panel 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the main tray.2. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.3. Touch Tools or Fax Tools, and then select Reprint Faxes in Memory. The faxes are printed in the reverse order from which they were received with the most recently received fax printed first, and so on.4. If you want to stop reprinting the faxes in memory, touch the Cancel button.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Not Recognized On The Network

I have a CenturyLink DSL Modem/Router that has 4 ports on the back.  I use Port 1 on the DSL Modem/Router to conntect to my NetGear Router.  I use Port 2 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer.  I use Port 3 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my Brother MFC-7360N printer.  I am not using Port 4 of the DSL Modem/Router.
My NetGear Router is used to connect all wired desktop PC's (5) in the house.
I was able to successfully install the software for the Brother printer on all computers and can print on the Brother printer from any of the desktop pc's.
I have the software for the HP printer installed on all computers but on the WIN XP desktop pc I cannot detect the printer on the network.  During the setup process the software detects that the HP printer and the WIN XP pc are connected to two different routers (the DSL Modem/Router is being detected as a router by the WIN XP pc).  On the other desktop pc's which are running either WIN7 or WIN8 there is no detection problems even though the printer is connected to the DSL Modem/Router while the PC is conntected to the NetGear Router.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to why I am having this problem.  The problem seems to be only with the WIN XP pc and not with the WIN7 or WIN8 pc's.
    This question was solved.

You are running a double NAT scenario, not good.  Simple fix, put the gateway unit (modem/router) in bridge mode, which will disable the router functions and just make it a modem.  Now connect the Netgear router to the gateway unit and have this handle all your wired and wireless connections.

I just purchased the Officejet Pro 8600 and cannot print card stock.  I read another HP troubleshooting page and tried to run 100 copies of blank paper through to "calibrate" the printer as suggested by HP technical support.   There was a suggestion to disconnect the tray 2 paper tray but I also don't a tray 2.  Any suggestions?  I print card stock regularly.
